Our take on the JVC KS-AX3204

JVC's DRVN Series car amplifiers are all about power… with style. These amps feature aggressive looks, strong value, and plenty of power packed into a rugged housing. The DRVN KS-AX3204 4-channel amplifier, for example, can power your sound system with 60 watts RMS for each of your front and rear speakers. And this JVC doubles as a bass amp — you can put the KS-AX3204 into 2-channel mode and run a pair of subwoofers with 150 watts RMS each.

Versatile features

The KS-AX3204 comes with the controls you need to get music sounding right in your vehicle. You'll find separate front and rear low- and high-pass filters at your disposal, allowing you to tailor the amp to driving full-range speakers or subs. And speaker-level inputs allow you to hook this amp to almost any car stereo, even a factory system.

A little big to hide, had to utilize the center console in the truck. Good power and powers the kicker speakers with no problem!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This amp is a terrific buy especially for four channels.. Not expensive and has met my expectations. Had a professional install it and what a difference this amp makes on my system. My system is a Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS, four Kicker speakers, and front tweeters and the sound is amazing. Would buy again.

Pros: Four channel, 800W.

Cons: None that I could think of.

Nice addition to my set-up

I added this amp to my system once I decided to upgrade my speakers. I have a 2005 Tundra DC. Head unit is a JVC KD X50BT. I am running Alpine 6 1/2 coaxial speakers in rear doors and components in the front. The amp fit nicely under my passenger seat, just had to modify the air vents. I finally have great sound in my truck. You can really hear all of the highs and lows in your music.

Pros: Great amp with lots of power for a very reasonable price. Easy to set the gains and easy to install.

Cons: Wish it had a pre-amp out for a sub.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N) over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4Ω. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the JVC KS-AX3204 is rated as follows:

  • Power Output:
    • 4Ω: 60 watts x 4-channels
    • 2Ω: 90 watts x 4-channels
    • Bridged: 150 watts x 2-channels (into 4Ω)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 76 dBA

Crossover: The front and rear sections of the amplifier have independent crossovers. Each has a 12 dB/octave slope and can be set to high-pass with a crossover point of 150 Hz, off (full range), or low-pass with a crossover point of 80 Hz.

Power Connections: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated screw terminals. They will accept spade connectors or ring terminals up to 0.5" wide. The remote turn-on terminal will accept a spade connector or ring terminal up to 0.35" wide.

Speaker Connections: The speaker outputs are also nickel-plated screw terminals and will accept spade connectors or ring terminals up to 0.35" wide.

Speaker Level Input: Two speaker level input harnesses are included (front and rear), making it easier to add an amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs.

Why did you buy this?

For the cheap price [ Patrick  Mar 31, 2016 ]

Best amp for my needs. Not powering sub and installing under front seat. [ John  Mar 07, 2016 ]
I chose this amp because I have previous experience with JVC. For an inexpensive brand the sound quality is great, power ratings are accurate and I have never had overheating problems with a JVC, ever. I will say though that I have a knack for finding the perfect spot. Find a place where the sheet metal "dips" in the trunk and mount this across it so air can underneath and it will stay nice and cool. [ Casey  Mar 03, 2016 ]
Great sound [ Walter  Feb 16, 2016 ]
Need a 4 channel amp to power front and rear speakers to match awesome sound of my 12 inch subwoofer. This amp has speaker level inputs which I must have because head unit only has one set of preamps and that goes to mono amp for sub. I don't know if I made right decision on this amp but I'm hoping it all works out. [ Caleb  Jan 29, 2016 ]

1 question already asked

Yes you can I have bought the same one and I am powering all for speakers plus my 12" kicker comp. It has been great [ Timothy Donovan  Feb 19, 2016 ]
I have this amp powering my front left/right door speakers and also 2 tweeters. Sounds awesome. I have a mono amp powering my single 12 inch sub. The rca preout from head unit goes to mono amp for sub. I have the front speakers and tweeters hooked to the high-level (speaker) inputs on this jvc. Remember you do not have to hook up negative speaker wire from head unit, just run the positives to amps harness and then use a chassis ground. Simple. Now the only the thing about your question I don't feel comfortable answering is you referring to a mono amp as being bridged. I've never heard of that and my understanding is that mono stands for one channel. So sorry I can't actually answer your question but that 4 channel jvc amp is great for the price. Please keep in mind that this amp is huge. It is twice the size of my kicker mono amp. You will need plenty of room. [ Caleb  Feb 19, 2016 ]
Yes, that is how it was used in the last install I did. [ Brian  Feb 17, 2016 ]
