1999 Ford Ranger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was repacing my head unit so i would have BT, jvc was running a special, buy specific head units along with 2 sets of speakers and the second set was free. So I grabbed 2 of these and figured buy one get one would be a nice way to upgrade the speakers in my 1999 ranger. After the install of the head unit and just the front speakers, well lets just say a marginal differance if at all. When I faded to the rear stock speakers they had more bass while close to the same overall sound (highs, mids). The only nod I would give these jvc's was in the clarity that was marginally better. Overall no way i buy again unless my stock speakers are blown then i would consider these only at buy one get one pricing or deep discount. I'd much rather try another similar priced set from pioneer (ive had much better experiances with) or any brand for that matter.

Pros: not much

Cons: sounds like stock

2006 Mercury Monterey
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounded awful compared to stock speakers in my 2006 Mercury Monterey. I tried with both stock stereo and Jvc kw-v50bt and same results No bass at all mids are muddy and highs are so so at best. I tried 1 side at a time and adjusted fade and balance to compare and the stock speakers had sounds that were completely missing from the Jvc's. They may be tolerable with an amp and subs but I doubt it. Only purchased because of buy one get one free and still to much.

Pros: Fit in a 2006 Mercury Monterey with no alterations.

Cons: Sound awful compared to stock 2 way speakers.

2012 Ford Escape
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are definitely an upgrade from stock - much stronger magnet, better cone material, and three-way compared to two. I expect them to last much longer. I was replacing a blown front stock speaker. From the specifications, I was expecting a greater improvement than I experienced. I purposely selected these speakers for their low RMS rating since I did not want to add an amp. It seemed like they would be very efficient and still give a significant boost in sound quality. However, the improvement is marginal compared to stock. The bass is not as well defined as I would like and the highs are not very sharp for a three-way speaker. I think these would probably sound much better over stock with a new head unit (which would add more power) or an amp. For the money, I would suggest the pioneer TS-G6844R. Cost less and makes a sound quality is much better even with stock. I have the pioneers in Ford Explorer which I ran with just the stock head unit and the difference in sound quality was noticeable. Not so with the JVCs. These speakers need power.

These are great speakers. The sound is great and the instellation is easy except for the wiring adaptor. That adaptor says it will work on an F150. But I read on all the people who have an F150 or any F series truck, it will not fit the front speakers. Others said it will fit the rear, I didn't buy any rear speakers.

Pros: Sounds good, easy installation.

Cons: Wiring adaptor will not work on front speakers.

My original speakers were no longer functional because of age and degradation of the paper and rubber materials used. I just needed new speakers for an older car. These worked fine, and most importantly, I got great directions and information about how to install them. Great Speakers for the Money!

2001 Ford F-150
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers for the money and a big improvement over factory. I installed these on a 2001 F150 SuperCrew on all 4 doors. Install was fairly straight forward and took me a little more than an hour. Directions were perfect and took all the guess work out of removing the door panels. I really like the idea of having three way speakers and this fit well. I did not realize this before the purchase but JVC and Kenwood are the same company.

Pros: Great improvement in audio over factory speakers. Much cleaner sound. The installation was also easier than expected with the help of the master sheets provided and the wiring harnesses.

Cons: As someone else noted in the reviews, a plastic mounting piece is glued onto the speaker and is easily pried up if you unscrew the speak. I had one lift after I backed a screw out and ended up just peeling it off. Was not an issue for my install but something to note. Also, one of the provided wiring harness adapters for the speakers was a pain to connect. It turned out the wire popped out of the adapter and I lost sound. I removed the door panel again and fixed. Just a pain.

Customer Q&A

2 questions already asked

I bought these speakers and a new receiver for my girlfriend. She loves the sound that now feels her little SUV. Output from the bass is just right. Definitely recommended! [ Steven  Jun 12, 2014 ]
I put 4 of these speakers in my 2007 Ranger. I prefer driving with my windows down instead of using the A/C whenever possible, so I was looking for good sound quality at loud volume to overcome road and wind noise. These speakers work great, whether I am listening to music or to NPR. I have had to turn the volume nearly to max on my factory stereo on occasion to hear clearly, and the speakers are fine. May need to upgrade my stereo soon, but that's another matter. Speakers are a great value. [ robert  Jun 11, 2014 ]
I was pushing 125 w to them and they sounded fine. However the base output needs to be pampered a bit with backings. Overall I'm pleased with them and feel they are a great value for the money. [ JASON  Jun 11, 2014 ]
Originally I purchased 5" round Kenwood for 2004 Mustang front door panels to compliment 6x8 Kenwood rear deck. As you could expect there was no bass in the front and all of the sound was coming from the rear. I replaced the 5" round with these 6x8 JVC in the front door panels. Made all the difference. Full sound all around. Very happy with JVC Performance. I listen loud as well. So I would say probably not easily blown. I am only running 25 wattts / channel. [ Roger  Jun 10, 2014 ]
I FOUND THAT PAIRED WITH THE CORRECT AMP, THESE SPEAKERS PERFORMED GREAT. IF OVER POWERED SUCH AS WITH ANY SPEAKER THEN YOU HAVE A CHANCE OF BLOWING THEM. FOR THE MONEY THEY SHOULD DO FINE. SET YOUR AMP CORRECTLY AND INSTALLING SOUND DEADNING MATT WILL GREATLY INMPROVE THE SOUND. I HAVE FOUND THAT BY INSTALLING SOUND DEADNER SUCH AS DYNAMAT OR STINGER MAT THAT EVEN A CHEAP SET OF SPEAKERS CAN BE MADE TO SOUND PRETTY GOOD. IF YOU WANT SERIOUS SOUND THEN FOCAL WOULD BE MY CHOICE, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD THOSE SO JVC AND INFINITY WILL HAVE TO DO. GOOD LUCK ! [ DUKE  Jun 10, 2014 ]
The bass output is great. Everybody stop and ask what kind of speakers do you have? [ BOYD  Jun 10, 2014 ]
Matt, it's all about matching the output per channel on your tuner/amp with the rating of the speaker. Personally I wouldn't run an amp through speakers that is over 80% of the RMS rating of the speaker.... always good to leave a little headroom ! [ Vicki  Jun 10, 2014 ]
That helps! Im going to go ahead and get me a pair. Thanks a lot. ~Matt [ Matt Bedo  Jun 10, 2014 ]
Matt B, I believe the bass output is decent for the price. However I have two stock door subs in my mustang that compliment these nicely so I've never had them playing without the door subs. I haven't blown the pair I have and they handle blasting music quite well with little to no distortion. Overall, for the price, you can't beat them. Hope this helps, Denver [ Denver  Jun 09, 2014 ]
no ,just a receiver will do the job,of course an amp will give a cleaner richer sound, but a good mid power receiver will give good sound [ KYNDAL A  May 15, 2014 ]
No amp needed. They sound good using a 25 watt JVC radio. [ Willard  May 14, 2014 ]
It's not necessary to wire to an amp. You can wire to an amp if you like, will sound just fine wiring to the radio. [ Kingston  May 14, 2014 ]
no.. [ STEVEN  May 14, 2014 ]
Teh amp in your receiver should have enough power to run them. [ JIMMY  May 14, 2014 ]
They are capable of being amped for higher output, but I've got them running off my stock amp and it powers them loud enough to hurt my ears with no distortion. 2007 Ford Mustang [ CHRIS R  May 14, 2014 ]
Not required no, but I am running a 200 watt 4 channel. with 4 speakers. [ BRIAN  May 14, 2014 ]
No, the radio power is good enough. [ DARRIN Q  May 14, 2014 ]
