Whether you're suffering with a blown speaker or you just want hear a little more detail in your music, JVC's DRVN Series speakers have you covered. The CS-VS608 6-1/2"" component speaker system features a durable woofer cone made from a mixture of Aramid, carbon fiber, and mica. JVC uses a tough cloth/rubber surround to support the woofer cone, so you'll enjoy strong bass.

You'll mount the separate 1" balanced dome PEI tweeter up closer to your ears for better stereo separation and detail, while the included 2-way crossover network directs the right frequencies to the woofer and tweeter for maximum performance. These speakers will give you a solid boost in sound quality, even when powered by your factory radio. Grilles are included.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Product Highlights:

  • package includes two 6-1/2" woofers, two tweeters, and two crossovers
  • carbon mica woofer with cloth and rubber hybrid surround
  • 1" PEI balanced dome tweeter
  • 2-way crossover network
  • power range: 8-60 watts RMS (300 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 45-28,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 87 dB
  • depth: 2-1/4"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Great Speakers for Keeping Factory Sound

Written by: Nick from New Jersey on December 12, 2015

1999 Pontiac Firebird
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There is much debate amongst fourth generation Firebird owners over whether or not the factory Monsoon sound system really has a "premium" sound. I learned of this debate because one of my rear seat side panel speakers blew recently and it is no longer possible to purchase factory replacements. As an individual who was happy with the factory sound, I wanted a solution that only replaced the blown speaker. Going to a junkyard to salvage speakers was an unappealing proposition, so I took a chance on aftermarket speakers.

I ordered the JVC CS-VS608 component speakers because the speaker I needed to replace was a component speaker. The factory speaker was 4 Ohms; the JVC CS-VS608 speakers are 4 Ohms. Everything I read about these JVC speakers suggested they would be suitable replacements.

With my new speakers in-hand, I called Crutchfield's customer service to confirm which colored wires from the factory setup needed to be used with the JVC speakers. Installation was incredibly straightforward from that point onward. The JVC speaker fit perfectly in the space allotted with the bracket Crutchfield provided. With one side of the car still using the factory speaker, I turned on the radio and listened for how the low frequencies sounded on each side. To my delight, both sides sounded great! With this peace of mind, I replaced the remaining factory rear seat side panel speaker.

Now I am cruising with that "premium" sound once again!

Pros: *Great Customer Service *Easy Installation *Clear Sound (Bass Frequencies) *Great Value

Cons: *Can't offer feedback for the quality of the highs/tweeters

Awesome product! Very happy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound at a great price. I purchased 2 sets to replace the stock, non-Alpine, speakers in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler "Willys". They sound so much better and installed easily with the kits I purchased from Crutchfield. You will need to create a bracket (I used 1/8" foam core) to mount the tweeters but that is the only real side step in the install.

Pros: Sound great and fit as specified.

Cons: None of which I can think.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was upgrading my factory car stereo speakers with all JVC speakers, but I kept the factory tweeters and used the factory installed cross-overs (they are attached to the bottom of the tweeters). Souds great and no problems with the supplied wiring harness.

Pros: works great sounds 100% better

Cons: had some Issues with the rear seat re-installations after the speakers where replaced should have had 2 people handle the seat back to get it properly lined up. need to adjust your cheat sheets to reflex "recommend two people to perform this task" on rear seat removal step.

Mixed Feelings

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well first off I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to car audio so I got these speakers based on a recommendation for the deck I chose. For the most part they sound alright and in terms of build quality they were a huge upgrade from my stock speakers. I had to fabricate my own brackets to mount the tweeters to maintain the stock look of my door panels (my car had stock tweeters). As far as sound quality the highs are super sensitive at higher volumes you can even hear the hard drive in my ipod changing songs. The bass though is almost non existent, not sure what I'm doing wrong. I unhooked my sub to hear the sound of just the speakers and tinkered with the equalizer and still couldn't really get any bass.

Pros: Look nice. Built decent. Good mids and highs.

Cons: Might just be me but bass isn't great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The 6.5 fit well in my 98 Subaru Forester and sounds rather good, especially with the lack of a tweeter included on the woofer and has crisp mids and some good bass response, enough to make my plastic interior rattle. On to the tweeter, this is why I would think twice on recommending this product. I was told I needed a component system, whereas I didn't because my stock tweeter and woofer already run on separate channels. So the crossover was a bust, and the tweeter wouldn't fit, unless I would like to either let it just sit in there or glue it onto the old housing. Also, when installed the tweeter does too good of a job, at least to my standards, but they may be biased as I reach more for thump in speakers, rather than highs

Pros: Woofer offers great sound for JVC and no dome tweeter

Cons: Tweeter doesn't fit, squeaks, and crossover useless

Installed in the front doors of my 1996 Chevy crew cab. Install went great for the 6 1/2". the tweeters wouldn't fit in the factory spot had to leave the factory tweeters in place. Great sound Very happy with these. I'll have to modify the door panels to get the tweeters to fit. Ran out of time will install the later.

Pros: Easy install, Great sound

Cons: I wish the tweeters had removable grills to fit my application.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave this 3 stars because it said this was a direct fit replacement, but in order for me to get the tweeters in I had to completely go on my own to mount it the ways offered were definitely not plug & play it required some ingenuity to make sure it cleared the grill was pointed up and was firmly mounted. This was in an '05 Avalanche.

Pros: Sound Great.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are not bad speakers for $50 if you're getting them with the JVC head unit deal - they're by far the cheapest component system Crutchfield has if you look at it that way. If you're not getting them through that deal however, there are much better options in the $99 price range. The Alpine SPS-610 is a 2-way, not a component system, but it blows these speakers away in terms of quality, and it's also $99.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, I really like the JVC CS-VS608's. They seem to be a well made speaker and sound very good for a component set in this price range. The high's are crisp and the mid to low notes are represented surprisingly well. If your on a budget and wanting a component set that sounds good, can handle some good power, and is very reasonably priced... look no further.

Pros: Very Affordable, Easy installation ( THE TWEETERS OFFER NUMEROUS MOUNTING OPTIONS) Very nice sound

Cons: I wasn't pleased with the crossover. The crossover works fine. I just wasnt pleased with the the size or length of the pre terminated wires. I amped this set up and used the proper gauge wire for the amp but had to drop down two wire sizes to mate with the wiring coming out of the crossover. All crossovers should have terminals so you can choose the proper guage of speaker wire for your application, as well as the proper length wire to avoid cutting and splicing to the crossover

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pictures on box, no instructions. Had no idea what the 2-way crossover network was for. My existing system had separate wiring for the tweeter and woofer so I left it out, looks like it is used if you only have a right/left channel wire that needs to split for tweeter/woofer connections. Also, the extra accessory included to connect the speakers was smashed. Was able to remove one from the old speaker and use it instead. Sound is great though, happy with them.

Pros: Sound, mounting bracket included snapped right into place after trimming off the extra tabs not required from my application.

Cons: Instructions and broken speaker wiring harness.

Great price, Sounds great.

Great price, Sounds great. Installed in 2000 Chevy Silverado with factory radio/CD.

Cons: Customized installation not exactly plug n play. But not difficult with a little patience and experimentation.

I purchased these speakers for a 2012 Honda Fit. They sound great in a small car and they work great with the JVC 845BT Arsenal receiver. These speakers were installed with a JVC 845BT Arsenal receiver with no additional amp. One tip for extra door panel clips before you start installation. Removal always breaks existing clips.

The speakers are awesome, highs are clear and sound great. The mid range is out standing, vocals and instrumental solos are unbelievable. I put two sets of these in my quad cab, with a sub I already had. Best system I have ever owned. I would say buy these over a 2 or 3 way speaker. Expescialy if you are the type if person that is very picky about your sound. Not to mention if you get them from crutchfield they come with all brackets and wiring harness you need for installation. Crutchfields customers service is how it should be. Way to go guys on setting the standard.

Pros: Speakers sound great! Easy install, with the directions and equipment they give you. Anyone can install them! Don't waste your money at any other place.

Cons: Yeah... Cons.... Nope don't have any of those.

Product Research

Woofer: Mica is added to an aramid and carbon fiber composite olefin base, resulting in a rigid, light, and durable cone.

Tweeters: The tweeters are PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced-domes; PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters come with brackets to allow flush mounting or angled surface mounting (approximately 30°):

  Flush Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.3" 1.375"
Mounting Depth 0.875" 0.3" (screw depth)
Frame Diameter 2.577" N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.983" N/A
Frame Width N/A 1.80"
Frame Depth N/A 1.84"

Crossovers: The 2-way crossovers have input and output wires attached. The woofer has quick slide terminals, but the wire has no terminals attached, so item number 120FQS10PK can be added to provide the needed terminals. The crossovers' dimensions are:

  • Length: 4-1/8"
  • Width: 1-13/16"
  • Height: 7/8"

Woofer Mounting: In addition to fitting standard 6-1/2 and 4-hole 6-1/2 applications, the woofer also has a standard 6-3/4 bolt pattern. However, if mounted in a 6-3/4 location the holes for the smaller pattern create an air leak, which must be sealed using a speaker baffle, or something similar.

Stock speakers were beyond blown and these sound amazing!!! [ Charles  Dec 08, 2015 ]

2 questions already asked

Sorry did not use an amp. Hook to stock GM system. [ HERBERT F  May 23, 2015 ]
Don't know. I have a Rockford Fosgate [ THOMAS J  May 22, 2015 ]
Not sure about working with the amp, but the speakers are awesome. Sound quality is excellent, very happy with them. [ STEVEN V  May 22, 2015 ]
Matthew, Wow, I would like to apologize for not getting back to you until now. I was planning on responding when I had more time and guess your email got overlooked. You have probably made a decision by now but, on the off chance you haven't... I will give you my two cents. Yes, these will work without an amp. Your factory stereo should power them fine. Although... you will not be using these speakers to their full and intended capabilities. Obviously, it would take an aftermarket head unit and an external amp to enjoy the components to the fullest. If your just looking to replace a blown set of speakers with no future upgrades, I would pass on these and just go with a set of coax. If you have plans to upgrade further in the future and need speakers now and don't have the funds for it all... this would be a smart way to go. Hope this helps and again I apologize for not responding sooner. Brian [ BRIAN K  Mar 01, 2014 ]
Yes it is, they work great [ JAMES  Jan 19, 2014 ]
I think your factory radio should be enough for these speakers. I got them as replacement speakers for my Chevy Trailblazer, and they are perfect for me. Nice highs and plenty of bass. I was satisfied. [ STEVEN V  Jan 19, 2014 ]
I put these in a Chevy Silverado. My factory paper speakers rattled and buzzed. So I just wanted to enjoy music again. With a factory radio and no amp, these speakers sound pretty darn good. The separate tweeters really enhanced the sound. They were easy to install and economical. [ THOMAS  Jan 19, 2014 ]
it should be, but i also put in the jvc kwr500 head unit and that made a huge difference. these speakers are great sounding and loud just depends on what the factory system output is. they were easy to install also. [ ANGELA  Jan 19, 2014 ]
Hi Matthew, I can't honestly answer the question as I replaced my factory radio at the same time I replaced the factory speakers with these. They don't require a whole lot of power to use them so I can't imagine why you couldn't. The separate tweeters are amazing. I purchased the Pioneer FH-X700BT ($150) to replace my factory radio and a set of Kicker 40CS654 6.5" Coaxial Speakers in the rear. This system sounds great even at low volume. [ Andrew  Jan 19, 2014 ]
I have a nice JVC head unit running them with 45 a channel. Sounds great!!! [ THOMAS J  Jan 19, 2014 ]
Matt, If you are looking for a good quality sound upgrade over your stock system, this should work great. I installed it on the stock stereo on my sisters 2008 vw rabbit without an amp and the sound impressed me. When the time comes to upgrade the speakers on my car, I plan on installing this kit. However, If you are looking for some serious bass or something along those lines, then this might not be the kit for you. Hope this helps. -Chris [ CHRISTOPHER L  Jan 19, 2014 ]
