Connect & control your iPod® or iPhone®

Plug your iPod or iPhone into the handy front-panel USB input, and you'll be able to speed through your music library with the KD-A615's controls. You can also activate the iPod's controls if your passengers want to pick the tunes. All song and artist info will appear in bright characters on the receiver's 2-line display.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Ready for all your digital music files

This versatile stereo will handle all your CDs and recordable discs, even discs or thumb drives you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. You can permanently install a JVC satellite radio tuner, or just connect a portable satellite radio to the auxiliary input. If you want to add more sources and features, the KD-A615 also works with JVC's HD Radio™ tuner, and Bluetooth® adapter.

Looking to add on?

You'll find two sets of preamp outputs for connecting amps and subs, and their 5-volt output keeps the noise out of your system. You can switch the rear output to subwoofer mode to activate a selectable low-pass filter, and use the subwoofer level control to dial in the right amount of bass.

In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Once again, JVC hits on all the right notes. I have a similar receiver (KDR600) in my other vehicle and, once again, I'm very pleased with JVC's feature packed selections. The Ipod control is great and the list of features and expandability is hard (if not impossible) to beat for the price. I installed this unit in my 2005 Audi A4 and with the VarioColor display, I was able to perfectly match the Audi's red dash lighting. Thanks again JVC for the great product and thanks again Crutchfield for the great price and service.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this unit to replace the factory SHAKER 500 in my 2006 Mustang.I
think the technical term for the improvement is : OMG.The difference was
stunning. For the first time,I could actually tell that the sub woofers were
really working.Radio reception was greatly improved.Sound is
unbelievable.Crisp highs, solid mid and bass.Even had to trim back the signal
going to the Shaker sub amps,I don't need to make the earth shake-just wanted to
feel it a little. The vari-color display means that I was finally able the match
the display to the MY COLOR dash lights in the Mustang.Love the USB port.If you
use the USB port ,make sure you find a pico or nano sized drive.2 reasons.A:just
leave it plugged in.B:so it doesn't stick out from the dash.
Instructions were clear.Install took about 3 hours, mainly because I was being
very careful while operating on my baby.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My trusty old Pioneer was on its last legs and I wanted something that could play from a
USB drive and had high output (5V) preamp outputs for a reasonable price. After some
research, I decided on this unit. I was not disappointed. It was an easy install and after
fiddling with the controls and reading the manual, I feel comfortable using this unit after
    only one day.
The sound quality is great, although the preset curves are not to my liking. No problem
as I prefer setting the EQ myself anyway. I also am happy to have a 2 year warranty!
The only cons I have found so far are:
--Track skip button is too close to the "menu" button for my fat fingers. Shouldn't be a
    problem for most though.
--The display is a little small...only 2 lines. Nothing major though. Some may prefer this
    simpler design.

Great deck; alot of features for your money.
The USB port in the front makes it easy to plug in your ipod or iphone.
The muliple choice of colors make it easy to match the interior of any car.
The sound is superior when matched up with my Ipod touch (4th gen).
    The installation was a breeze.
Thanks Crutchfield for making this such a great experience!

    iPhone 4 interface issues

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

installed easily and looks great, especially changing the color to match my odd orange glow instrument panel. Works well with iPod Touch (2nd gen) and iPod Nano.
search/scroll through playlists and songlists the JVC could not keep up and displayed song numbers instead of names until the interface 'caught up' with the scrolling. It may be the unit I have, but the direct USB interface with iPhone 4 produced an unacceptable amount of distortion. I tried all settings of EQ and several USB cables and could not get rid of distortion. The iPhone works perfectly via USB on another Clarion unit installed in a different vehicle. Using the Aux in via headphone jack sounded good, but then I lost head unit controls.

Overall if I had just an iPod or iTouch I likely would not have had any complaints other than the slow scrolling speed.

    2005 Saturn ION 3
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed on a 2005 Saturn ION Redline. Perhaps the main comment should go to the ease of install. The Crutchfield picture walkthrough made it a super easy install. It's a bonus if you have a bit of an electronic background. The JVC manual is lame at best, and calls for a installing the ground first, but you can prehookup the wire harness and wirenut the ground as you install the unit later. The "dimmer" orange wire was not required in my system. The lights dim when I turn my lights on.

The sound is wonderful. I travel a lot and the FM signal hangs in longer and the signal to noise is so much better but CD is the best, and the USB convenience makes my long trips that much more tolerable.

High 5 to Crutchfield. I can't imagine trying to install this from the JVC provided 'manual' (lame manual at best).

Great pricing and the install papers make the deal priceless. TY Crutchfield! Worth every penny and then some.

As usual, trying to decipher the instructions( a problem with all electronics instruction manualls ) I got most of the adjustments made. Some of the buttons are really small for a guy with big arthritic hands,( just the way new technology is, Small ) but so far I can manage to use them. Again LOVE THE SOUND.

This receiver has a clean look and great sound. The USB port is very convenient for plugging in a flash-drive full of music. My only complaint is this: when you're playing music from a flash-drive, the music is going to play in the order that it was copied onto the drive. The receiver does not read the id3 tags and order the songs by album/track number, it doesn't even order the files by filename. So, if you care about albums playing in the right order, make sure you copy the songs onto your flash drive one at a time, in order.

This Stereo sounds great and looks good in my Trailblazer. With help from Paul got excactly what I needed to make the installation a zip. GMOS interface was needed due to ONSTAR. Had old stereo out and new installed in 1 1/2 hrs. Everything fit perfect. Stereo is very user friendly and affordable. You get alot of options you only get on higher end models for alot more money. The front aux. jack does support Android phones for Pandora radio.

    2004 Dodge Neon
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit looks smooth and clean and has great sound, even through factory speakers. I soldered all of my wire connections so that was the longest part of the installation. Wire soldering aside, installation took less than 10 minutes (and that is not an exaggeration).

I saw quite a few reviews that slammed this line of receivers for their display brightness and ease of control use and menu functions. I have no problems with the display visibility, even in extreme brightness. This may vary depending on the color and brightness you select for the display. As far as the lack of preset station buttons, you can easily scroll through your presets by using the "up" or "down" buttons rather than going into the menu. I found all of the controls very easy once you play with it and get used to the functions.

The unit's instructions, as well as the installation parts and sheets supplied by Crutchfield) were very detailed, complete and straight forward. This is why I'm a repeat customer.

Pros: - Great value for the money, Great Sound, Nice Styling, Easy Installation

Cons: - Wish the main control knob was a hair thicker. Wish the unit had drivers installed to control a Zune music player

Overall, I gave this unit a 5 star rating. Are there better receivers out there? Of course...but, for this price range I think this is a 5 star product.

This head unit is great. It only took about 2 hours to set up and install but that was because I had lost my wire crimpers and ended up using a pair of needle nose which I don't recommend because it is a pain. But, all in all, it was a very simple process. The unit looks real clean and the sound quality is an improvement from the factory unit. Plays all of my CD's and my flash drive which is great because now I can get rid of my 20-30 CD's that are just a pain.

    Easy to install
    Looks great
    Sounds great
Comes with everything you need thanks to Crutchfield
Very well priced and Crutchfields price is $20-$30 cheaper than the MSRP

I still need to buy some subs but I don't have enough money :(

    2000 Honda Civic
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    1. Sounds great (24 bit DAC!!)
    2. Independent color control - matches with dash and does not look cheap.
    3. Works with Iphone 4 - Charges/controls the iphone or can be controlled by it.
    4. Big difference with my stock speakers over the factory HU (civic 2000).

    1. Difficult to see the LCD in daylight. I wonder if JVC engineers actually test their products in real environment. It's annoying, and I find myself staring at the receiver more than I would like to while driving.
    2. Poorly designed Display. In the normal mode, it shows the song name for a few seconds and then reverts back to track # & connection mode (ipod/CD/fm) and clock. I would rather prefer if cycles between the song, album, duration played/remaining. There is a hard button that can be clicked to see the name of the song or album - but those modes don't show you the clock!!
    3. Clock is off if the HU is off. I think this is same with other aftermarket HU too.
    4. The rear aux connection is not long enough -buy a male/female cable to extend it to your glove box. Again, don't know if other brands are any better.
    5. Replacing the factory HU on my civic 2000 wasn't easy. I had to take all the front panels out etc. Crutchfield directions are okay enough, but not super detailed for novices. But Crutchfield customer support rocks.
    6. Connect the DIN sleeve to the mount nicely. Otherwise it makes a rattling sound when you drive.

This JVC radio is a good solid upgrade for a factory stereo. It carries a lot of features at a reasonable price. The learning curve is a little steep at first to figure out how to reach all the settings and program the stations, but the manual provided with the radio of course can help with all that. The ipod controls are great and the display gives some great info about song title / album title etc... The ability to set the display and button colors in lots of combinations is a nice touch too. I would definitely recommend this radio to anyone looking for a new deck for a reasonable price with nice features.

Pro: Simple headunit, lots of inputs, color changing face is cool.

The two tone coloring looks amazing, you can change the left and the right side to a different color. I hooked 2 12" subs up to it and it pushes them perfectly. It has many different audio options tailored to fit your specific needs. If you like a lot of bass it has an option for that. If you like an even balance it has an option for that. 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

This car stereo is just amazing! I installed it in my 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass because the Factory Stereo was just very old school. I needed something that was high end, in my budget, and with a USB port. I bought 2 sets of speakers to go with my system (Polk Audio db351's and Sound Ordinance P-69's) and that right there with the JVC's amplifier is the perfect match. The USB port is just what my standards wanted. Its fast, it registers, and you're ready to go. The menu is intuitive, the radio has superb pickup, and yes, that remote.. IS TINY. You can latch that sucker to your key ring!

You will not be disappointed with this Stereo. Its got a very good reason why its on Crutchfields "Signature" selection.

A nice unit with iPhone [and Pandora] support

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this unit - thanks to Crutchfield for the wiring adapter that made it a no brainer - I did have a couple of questions, this being my first install. Crutchfield support answered right away and already knew what kind of receiver and car I have, they answered my questions expertly.

As for the unit it's a really nice upgrade from my stock stereo. One thing that freaked me out, though, was the demo mode where the front display shows all the features, but you can turn that off in the menu. The menu, by the way, is really easy to use.

Note that at first the unit did not recognise my iPhone 3GS. The front panel just said "CANNOT PLAY". That was because I didn't have any music stored on my phone. In fact, I couldn't even get to the iPod/iPhone menu items. I called JVC support and they told me to start playing a song on the iPhone using the iPod app. Then, once the song is playing, plug the phone in to the USB port. The unit immediately recognized the iPhone. And, YES, once it is recognised, you can start Pandora and it will play your Pandora music through the USB connection. If it doesn't work, use the unit's menu to switch to "HEAD MODE" under "IPOD SWITCH".

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

HOLY MOLY! I love the sound out this unit. Installed it my 2005 Corolla in about 45 minutes, because I wired up the harness in the house the night before I did the install. No amps and factory speakers produces 100 percent better sound than the factory stereo. Love the IPOD controls easy to use, after skimming through the manual. The remote is about as big as standard key fob for an automoblie so the buttons are small. The color options are very nice, easy to match the toyota interior colors (green). Crutchfield as usual, totally awsome shipped fast and everything I needed for a smooth install. The only thing that I would like on this unit are some preset bottons. But whatever...

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great stereo for the small price. The fact that it included everything I would need to install it for no extra money and no shipping was a big plus. I had my son who is very familiar with car stereos install it for me and after watching him, I knew it was not something I could have accomplished without calling the toll-free tech line. He was very amazed at what this unit would do for what I paid for it, in fact he said he would love to have one for his birthday!! Anyway, it installed easy enough and we had fun with the color combination's and everything worked great. I am really impressed with being able to use a thumb drive, that makes it almost like have a multiple disc player. The remote is fairly small, but I am a woman with small hands, so that's no big deal, the deal is where to store the little thing and not lose it. Conrad at Crutchfield explained that I already had an amp located in my truck (I did not know that!) and so I got the right wiring kit that made it a piece of cake to hookup. The sound is great and having my music lover son be impressed was an accomplishment! It took maybe a couple of hours from start to finish and I would recommend this unit highly.

    Mazda Miata Bose upgrade

Written by: Anonymous from Valdosta, GA on May 3, 2010

Its a nice radio with easy to understand controls after a quick read of the owners manual. The best option as noted by some others is the ability to change the color of the buttons and display to match any car out there--the radio has several preset colors but if they dont work you can adjust the color perfectly to match your cars interior using the custom lighting option. USB controls are easy but make sure you buy a thumb drive that does not have an annoying light because it will be visible when inserted into the radio face, try one that has a red LED but its not bright and the light faces away from the driver when inserted so I never see it unlike the others I bought that had a blue LED that illuminated the entire car. If I had waited a couple more weeks I would have opted for the slightly more expensive JVC Arsenal KD-AHD69 that has HD built in. But if HD is not on your list of necessities go for this model it works great.

    A Receiver with possibilities

Written by: Delilah from Oregon on May 2, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded the stock Infinity system in my 02 Grand Cherokee to a receiver with ipod/mp3 capability. The difference of sound quality is truly night and day. Install was easy, with only issues around the swijack install and programming (grr). My husband has a complex stereo system for his 71 Camaro and even he liked this deck. While the multi-color option is cool, I found a hidden gem that will let you adjust volume input according to the source. I only listen to 3 FM stations and 1 AM, which come in fine with this deck and CD's sound great (of course). The remote is small, and that is good for me as it fits perfectly in the ashtray for storage. Remote control range is solid outside the jeep (better than his Alpine CDA- 9887). Programming and menu navigation is simple. I love tech gadgets and found this deck was very easy to master. You do have to go thru a few menus to get to the adjustments for treble, bass and fade. I use fade adjustments especially when my kids are in the car, so not getting to it quickly can be annoying.

Navigation for ipod better on this system than my husband's Alpine. I have a classic ipod with a metric ton of music. Not much lag to refresh album info and the jump feature is nice (I expected more lag based on playing w/ the Alpine and reviews I had read prior). Overall, it's a great little receiver that I can add more (Bluetooth & HD radio) at a later date. Worth the price paid & fits perfect to my needs.

Great sound, a little clumsy to use

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The best part of this radio is the multi color display. I was able to adjust it to match perfectly to the Porsche colors. The unit sounds great and installed easy with the free Crutchfiled adapters. The only bad - It's a pain to quickly adjust the bass/treble as you have to go a couple menus deep each time. Also the IPOD and USB control is a little slow to use but keeping a usb stick in the car when I forget the ipod is helpful. Overall it's a great radio with tons of great options.

Installed real easy in my 2003 Matrix, Sounded great and loved the fact that I could match my dash board orange display perfectly. Looked good but just couldn;t see the display in the day time. Swapped with the Clarion CX400.

A great receiver except for a couple minor points

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Being an old timer I like certain things the way they were. One being the ability to simply tune a tuner. With this model you can't do it. You have to seek or scan & the unit grabs only the closest, strongest stations. Wish I had known this ahead of time. Not good when the station you want is a slight distance away. Sound-wise it's a clear jump ahead of my 05 Sebring convertible Infinity system, although I kept the amp. Small buttons, small remote. Haven't tried the USB port yet but the CD plays great. Crutchfields additional installation goodies made it easy for both the head unit and the 2 Polk speakers I put in the dash. Wiring harnesses, 1 hr ; radio install, 10 mins; speakers, 45 mins. Overall, great sound at a great price with everything needed to do the job right, but now I have to drive 40+ miles to get my station then add it to the presets.

    Great Product

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Holy cow the remote is tiny!!!!!! Seriously though the radio is great. The parts that came with the radio were flawless. My wife loves the demo mode where all the colors are displayed. The radio is easy to figure out but requires a little work to get around but i never used a JVC before. Don't have any amps hooked to it cause the wife dont like that but i'm sure that part works good. My only gripe was that this radio was to replace a factory radio that didnt pick up stations too well except for smalltime local broadcast. This radio 's reception was not much better but i think its the truck because my other vehicles can pickup Albuquerque broadcast but not this one. If i had paid more attention i could bought a JVC with HD Radio included for 20 bucks more. Oh well, i'm happy with this purchase and buying experience with Crutchfield overall and would recommend this item for the entry level class.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install! Looks great! Sounds Great! You can change the button and display colors, which is great. It has 30 colors to choose from! I have an amp and a couple of tens hooked up to it and love the way they sound. You also don't need an expensive I pod. You can load music to a flash drive (which are really cheap) and plug that directly in the USB port. You can even create different folders and scroll through them using the controls on the deck. I would definitely recommend this product!

I bought this Stereo and it was delivered in 3 days. I had trouble hooking it up, but call crutch field and fixed that problem fast. It sounds great and has alot of great options. I can either use my IPOD or even flash drive. This is a great stereo for the price and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone shopping in this price range.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good looking unit with the functions I wanted. Installed pretty well, used the t- support bracket mounted to the radio, not to the Ford kit as it seemed to be a bit more stable. I am not sure if the iPod ready stuff will work or not. I tested this and the radio said reading device for a long time, it controlled the iPhone for a bit, then the phone beeped and said accessory component not supported on the iPhone. Tried again, got tired of waiting. This is in the RV so I could use a aux cable , but I really won't get a chance to test this out until it leaves the garage in the spring.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The unit features a single front loading CD face that detaches from the chassis to deter theft. The CD player comes supplied with a plastic face-case to protect the detachable face when you have it off the chassis.

Variable Color LCD and Key Illumination: The JVC KD-A615 features 29 color presets for the LCD display and button illumination. Additionally, there is a user preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons except Eject, EQ, and display; those remain red. You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination or use a separate color for each one.  You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD display and button illumination.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12 volts is applied to the illumination lead).

Clock Display: While playing a CD, you can switch between the clock display and the CD elapsed time display (the track number always appears). While listening to the radio you can switch between the clock display and the station frequency display. When you press the Display button during power off, the unit will turn on, display the clock for 5 seconds, then shut off. This can be done with the ignition on or off.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-A615 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-A615 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-A615 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-A615 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Pro EQ: The KD-A615 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal, Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the headunit's 3 band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Tone JVC Pro EQ
    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 khz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-A615 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Source Volume: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Switchable Preamp Outputs: The KD-A615 is equipped with two pair of 5.0V preamp outputs (Front/Rear). You can set the rear preamp outputs for connecting rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading, and you can set the cutoff frequency of the low pass filter at 72Hz, 111Hz, or 157Hz. The subwoofer level can be set between 0 and 8.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash headunit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The JVC KD-A615 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning.

Preset Tuning: You can store a total of 18 FM stations presets and 6 AM station presets. The radio allows you to set your AM/FM stations manually or automatically.

Title Assignment: You can also assign names (up to eight characters) for 30 AM/FM station frequencies.

IF Filter: You can also switch the tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

HD Radio: The KD-A615 supports HD Radio when the optional JVC HD Radio tuner box (105KTHD300, sold separately) is connected to the receiver's CD changer port on the rear of the unit. HD Radio Technology can deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality with static free and clear reception. In addition, AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. Many HD Radio stations also offer more than one channel of programming. This service is called multicasting. When this optional HD Radio tuner box is connected to the KD-A615, you will still be able to receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Note: Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver to this receiver:

    • XM Satellite Radio: To receive XM Satellite Radio connect the optional CNP2000UCA XM Direct2 tuner and the JVC CNP-JVC1 adapter cable (package item number 700XMJVC2, sold separately).
    • SIRIUS: The JVC KD-A615 is compatible with the SiriusConnect Universal Tuner and Plug & Play Dock.
      • SiriusConnect Tuner: Connect the optional SC-C1 SiriusConnect vehicle tuner (item number 607SCC1) and the JVC KS-SRA100 SIRIUS adapter (item number 105KSRA100) - package # 700SIRJVC1, sold separately.
      • SiriusConnect Dock: Select dock-and-play and portable SIRIUS radios can be controlled using the JVC KS-SRA100 SIRIUS adapter (item number 105KSRA100, sold separately) and the SC-VDOC1 dock (item number 607SCVDOC1, sold separately).
    • Auxiliary Input: A portable XM or Sirius satellite radio receiver can be connected to the head unit via the front panel auxiliary input or a JVC auxiliary input adapter, such as the KS-U57 or KS-U58 (sold separately).

Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from SIRIUS or XM.

    Disc Playback

MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-A615 can play MP3 (32-320 kbps)/WMA files (32-320 kbps) that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. Each disc can have a maximum of 8 folder hierarchies, 255 folders, and no more than a total of 512 files and/or folders on each disc. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3 or WMA files.

Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust; playback starts automatically.

Disc Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.

Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

    USB/iPod/Aix Connection

USB Port: The JVC KD-A615 features a front panel USB 2.0 type-A port behind a sliding cover for connection of a USB mass-storage class device (FAT 12/16/32). The USB port enables audio playback and control of MP3/WMA (32-320 kbps) audio files stored on a portable USB mass-storage class device. The KD-A615 can recognize up to 255 folders (255 files per folder) and 5,000 total files. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3/WMA files.

Note: You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

iPod Direct: The JVC KD-A615's front-panel USB port also acts as an iPod high-speed direct connection when used with the USB/iPod cable that came with your iPod. An additional iPod cable is available (469USBPOD, sold separately) so you can leave one at home and one in the car. Menu options allow iPod control from the headunit or from the iPod itself. From the headunit's front-panel controls you can search your iPod/iPhone's music by Category (Playlist/Artist/Album/Song/Genre/Composer). If the selected category contains a high number of tracks, you can fast search (+/-10, 100, 1000) through the music tracks in that particular category by simply turning the headunit's control dial. The KD-A615 also supports Repeat and Random playback functions of your iPod/iPhone. Regardless of control mode, the KD-A615 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file text. The iPod/iPhone is also charged whenever it is connected with the head unit turned on. The JVC KD-A615 is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features (as of Jan. 2010):
