Our take on the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT

by Zak Billmeier
JVC

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT

Easy-to-read display
No more scrolling words — the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT CD receiver features a 4-line display that makes it easy to read song info no matter which source you choose. So whether you're listening to tunes on your iPod, checking out Pandora® on your iPhone, or streaming an app from your Android™ phone, you'll know what's playing at a glance. When a call comes in, it'll be easy to tell who's on the other line.

Plus, you can customize the look — choose from over 30,000 different shades for the left and right sides of the receiver. And you can rest easy knowing the receiver is covered by the Arsenal two-year warranty.

Bluetooth® included
Hands-free calling is just the beginning — think of Bluetooth as a wireless bridge between your smartphone and your dash. JVC includes a tiny little Bluetooth dongle that fits nicely on one of the rear USB inputs. Pair up this JVC and an Android™ smartphone, and you can harness Bluetooth's full — you'll be able to receive text message notification, stream music, or access Internet radio stations, depending on your phone's features. iPhone® users get the same features while connected via USB.

Smart Remote for Android™ smartphones
JVC's Smart Remote Android app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control the action using finger swipes and gestures — for example, tap the screen to play and pause, or swipe right to skip forward a track. Install your Android phone in a mount in a convenient spot, then you'll be able to reach down and skip a track without taking your eyes off the road.

Pair two phones at once
The KD-A95BT's built-in Bluetooth lets you pair two phones at once — no need to choose between your personal and business phones. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance if your call is coming from home or the office. To answer a call, just tap the volume knob.

Higher-power USB connection
JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to its internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Control PANDORA® Internet radio
JVC makes it easy to play your favorite PANDORA Internet Radio stations. iPhone users can control PANDORA when connected to the USB slot, while Android and Blackberry owners get full control of Pandora over the Bluetooth connection, depending on your phone's features.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Burr-Brown 24-bit D/A Converter: The JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT CD receiver utilizes a premium TI/Burr-Brown 24-bit digital-to-analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-A95BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-A95BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-A95BT are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

5V/6CH Preamp Output: The KD-A95BT is equipped with three pair of 5V gold-plated preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front & rear preamp outputs offer balance/fade control and are designed to hookup to a full-range 4-channel amplifier. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading and designed to hookup to a mono-block subwoofer amplifier. You can adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between 0 and 8, as well as the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse).

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-A95BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

My Sound EQ: The My Sound EQ features lets you customize your car audio system's sound by listening to test tones in five frequencies (All, Low, Middle, Middle-High, High), each represented by a different type of instrument. You can adjust the level of each frequency between -9 to +9. You can save up to 3 My Sound EQ Profiles (Sound 1/2/3) for easy recall. You can also download sample music (instruments) in various genres for the My Sound EQ function from the JVC mobile website onto a USB thumbdrive.

5-Band EQ (with Presets): You can select a preset sound mode suitable for your music. You can select from Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal, Bass, or User. The User mode lets you customize the head unit's 5-band EQ (50Hz, 200Hz, 800hz, 3.2kHz, 12.5kHz) from +/-9dB.

Source Link EQ: This feature allows you to store the head unit's Preset EQ or 5-band EQ settings for each source (CD, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, and Pandora).

DSP Control: In order to optimize the sound quality, you can use the head unit's DSP control to set the type of vehicle, your seated position, and speaker size, distance, & x-over points. The DSP settings include the following:

    • Car Type: You can choose what type of vehicle you have; Compact, Sedan (medium), Sedan (large), SUV, SUV (small), X'over, Truck, Wagon, Minivan, or Van.
    • Seated Position: For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right or Front.
    • Time Alignment: You can manually fine tune the sound stage by selecting the distance for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position. You can select between 1.6-16.4' for the Left Front Speaker, Right Front Speaker, Left Rear Speaker, Right Rear Speaker, and Subwoofer.
    • Speaker Crossover: You can choose between an Easy crossover setup or Pro (custom) crossover setup for your audio system.
      • Easy: The speaker X'over is automatically set when the size of each speaker is select from the following items.
        • Front/Rear: select from full-range, 4", 5-1/4", 6-1/2", 6-3/4", 7", 4x6", 5x7", 6x8", 6x9", or 7x10"
        • Subwoofer: select from full-range, 6-1/2", 8", 10", 12", or 15" + over
      • Pro (Custom): The JVC head unit offers a high-pass crossover for the front & rear speaker/preamp channels and a low-pass crossover for the unit's subwoofer preamp output.
        • High-Pass Crossover (Front/Rear): variable high-pass filter (30-200Hz) and crossover slope (-12/-18/-24 dB per octave); frequencies lower than the selected frequency are cut-off from the front and rear speakers
        • Low-Pass Crossover (Subwoofer): variable low-pass filter (30-200Hz)and crossover slope (-12/-18/-24 dB per octave); frequencies lower than the selected frequency are sent to the subwoofer.

D.T. Expander (Digital Track Expander): The Digital Track Expander feature compensates for harsh high frequency sound in compressed digital tracks. The Digital Track Expander effect can be used for MP3/WMA (64-128 kbps) audio files and iPod/iPhone music files.

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. The Loudness features has four settings (1, 2, 3, or off).

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Built-in Bluetooth

USB Bluetooth Adapter: The JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT comes supplied with a USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) which is pre-installed into the head unit's rear-panel USB 1 input, making the KD-A95BT Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR certified. • External (App Mode): External Mode lets you enjoy audio content from your downloaded music Apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Rhapsody, & Slacker streamed to your Apple iPhone, through the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT. You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to navigate and view your apps; the head unit will only display the clock and "EXT Mode".

Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded application will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

iPod Display: The KD-A95BT will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information, when in Head Unit and iPod mode (not in External mode), or listening to Pandora Internet Radio. The head unit can display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label.

Auto Drive Router App: Auto Drive Router is a free JVC app from iTunes for your iPhone (iOS 5.0 or later). This app can be controlled from the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT, when your iPhone is connected to the head unit's USB port. Auto Drive Router lets you record your traveled routes and store recorded data on your iPhone, using Google Maps. E-mails with map data can also be sent quickly and easily from your iPhone, letting others know where you are or where you want to meet. You can start and stop when Auto Driver Router records your routes using the in-dash CD receiver's controls. You can also send an email template to your predetermined contacts directly from the receiver's controls. You can do all this while still listening to stored music or streamed music from your iPhone on the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT.

    • Drive Data: This function allows you to record routes and store them as data in your iPhone, enabling you to easily retrieve data just by selecting a route from the Saved Route List. When data is called up on your iPhone, the route being taken will be shown as a single line on the map in different colors to indicate how fast you were traveling. It is also possible to zoom in and out of maps on your iPhone, as well as see the speed and altitude of routes in a graph format on the iPhone's touchscreen. By connecting an iPhone with this app installed to the KD-A95BT, you can record routes via the control knobs and buttons of the in-dash head unit.
    • Here I AM: When you select the "Here I Am" function on the Auto Drive Router app, a flag showing "Here I Am?" will appear on the on-screen Google Map of your iPhone to indicate your current location. And by using a default template, an e-mail will also be created instantaneously for delivery of the map to multiple recipients. The flag can also be placed in different locations on the on-screen map of the iPhone with the "Here I Am" function being used to e-mail changes in meeting spots. When your iPhone is connected to the JVC CD receiver, your email templates can be selected and sent directly from the head unit.
Note: The JVC head unit must be set to External/App mode. All visual navigation will be displayed on your connected iPhone (not the JVC head unit). You can only control a specific number of functions from the JVC head unit. Not compatible with iPad or other iPod models.

iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

    Great Radio!

Written By C C, AR on Sunday, August 31, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great head unit so far, we've only had it a couple of months. We have owned a few JVC head units before and have always enjoyed them. The most memorable was the Chameleon style about 10 or so years ago. This is a nice head unit, my four year old and my wife enjoy it as much as i do. The little singer in the back likes having a remote to command the music with too.... Overall a great radio , after you figure out the bluetooth.... it was interesting at first programming the phones to it but after that it has been very convenient and safe, bluetooth is great for a family ride! or any for that matter.
    Pros:
Aesthetically pleasing, great sound, plenty of Rcas to send some sound with, extra long rear usb input(x2)(one used by bluetooth adapter), Bluetooth is very handy and safer while driving
    Cons:
a little bit of timing involved to set up the bluetooth to an Iphone during the pairing process but other than that, none so far

So far, I am very impressed with this head unit. The interface is very easy to read, bluetooth quality is awesome, USBs work well and interface with my iPhone and flash drives pretty quickly, and the controls are easy to use.
    Pros:
Features of the EQ Bluetooth sound quality Options to change the color of the screen and buttons Speed of loading music from flash drive
    Cons:
Bluetooth is not integrated into the head unit. Although this is not horrible, as I can use the dongle with my computer as well, I would prefer integrated.

    Almost perfect

Easy to install and sound quality is very good. This is one of the only radios made that allow me to use my satellite docking unit (so I can use Sirius receiver in both of my cars plus my home radio without buying 3 subscriptions). The Bluetooth adapter uses up one of the 2 USB ports-it really should be built in. My only complaint is the lack of buttons for going directly to a preset station.
    Pros:
Great sound. More bass than my previous JVC radio (AHD 75BT). Easy and intuitive to set up.
    Cons:
There are no buttons for your preset stations. You have to press the Menu button, then the Control Dial. Finally, you spin the dial until you get the the desired station, and press it again. Not easy to do while driving. For FM, HD, or AM, you can also scroll through your preset stations with a rocker switch, which is good. The big problem is that you CAN NOT scroll through your satellite preset stations. That rocker only scrolls through preset music categories, which you can not change.

I needed a unit with rear accessory access. It's used in our camper. As such it is not visible during normal use. We have a XM radio mounted high against the ceiling. It has all the display functions we need. The problem with the XM is the way it talks to the radio. It can use an FM channel but that's less than clear sound compared to XM, or we can use the patch cord. But with no rear plug on the old stereo the patch cord was hanging down against the wall in plain sight. Not cool. Also charging stuff with the old radios' front USB meant having cords sticking out into the passageway. All is well now and this unit even has a CD player! Wonder how it works? OH, the remote; It's small and clumsy for me to use but now I can be in bed listening to the radio and MUTE it for the night, everytime I push the button. Before with the old unit I had to get up to turn down the radio because of the 90° line of site. Now all is well at the drag strip too. This thing even has enough power to drown out most of the race cars. And when the announcer speaks to call my class I don't miss out hearing because of the remote. Now if I could just win a race now and then. Connectivity; Plug and play! The old unit was a Kenwood. They're the same company. They both use the same plugs! Yes!

Pretty good receiver(Head Unit). Like the 2 usb inputs and really like the bluetooth adaptor on one of the usb. LOve it that I can thumb up or down the song on the head unit when using pandora, its about time someone created that!
    Pros:
Many display colors to choose from for the display and buttons seperatly. BLuetoth awesome connectivity with pandora Volume knob, not buttons like some...
    Cons:
volume knob slow to response I have to reinitialize to pandora everytime I turn it on. The receiver connects fine to the phone and plays what pandoras on, but doesnt display any info or allow me to thumbs up or down until I tell it its pandora again.

    Great Unit

Written By Zack, Billerica, Massachusetts on Tuesday, October 01, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This JVC unit is a great piece of technology. It has bluetooth included, as well as an auxiliary jack and extra usb port. All wires extend from the rear of the device, so there's no cluttering wires or ports on the front side. I've had multiple people tell me that the unit looks like it could have been in my car from the factory. This is exactly what i was aiming for. I wanted as minimalistic a look as possible. This unit certainly delivers there. The face doesn't have extra writing or labels, so it looks nice and clean. The unit folds down in the front, revealing the cd slot, but with so many options for media playback, i don't see why you would need to return to cd's. The connection time for bluetooth is nearly instant IF you connect it right. To do it as quickly as possible, turn the car on (or simply the unit) THEN turn your phone's bluetooth on. I have an NFC tag in the pocket under the radio that triggers my bluetooth so i dont have to push anything and my phone connects flawlessly. The unit has a plethora of audiophile-grade tuning elements. When buying, i was reluctant to choose a unit that only had a 5 band eq. I've come to realize, however, that with the right setup, one can leave the eq alone, playing music on "flat" with no changes to any equalizer settings. What you should be paying attention to is the Low and High pass filters. It has a "pro" mode, for exacting in tuning, and a "simple" mode, that allows anyone to achieve great sound. Overall great unit.
    Pros:
good looking face and screen, multitude of audio tuning options, clear bluetooth audio as well as great sounding phone calls (on both ends, with an included mic), big volume knob with positive "click" at each turn, quick muting function, easy to use phonebook access, no wires coming from front, amazing sound quality (with 4 boston acoustics 6x8's powered by an amp, a pair of alpine tweeters powered by the unit, and utilization of the stock sub), adjustable volume per source
    Cons:
have to hold menu to access the menu (quick press sends pause function to playing source), has to load the phonebook if you scroll too fast, might be tricky to use unless you read the manual (i didn't, but i'm pretty good at figuring this stuff out)

    Best bang for your buck!

Written By Bass Lover, Tennessee on Wednesday, May 08, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The best "bang" for your buck, pun intended! The Arsenal has everything you could want, aside from a substantial graphic EQ. This is one of the down sides, but is in no way a deal breaker. I would say a 7 band eq is a minimum if you are designing a cd player for the audiophile group, but the Arsenal only comes in a 5 band. Another gripe is the time it takes to get to any of the audio settings. Sure there is an eq button on the face of the player that scrolls your preset and user defined eq's, but what if i want to modify the eq, or get to any other adjustments an audiophile will frequently use. This is a bummer for me plus the fact that you can't use your remote once you get to your graphic equalizer. These issues aside, the Arsenal is a major win in my book. Sound quality is fantastic from the 24bit dac, and the on-board amp is potent. I've installed Sirius as well, and audio is clean and clear from all sources. The USB cables from the back are routed inside my dash to the glove box keeping my installation clean, which is a great way to describe the look of the Arsenal itself. The face lacks the busy "come look at me" style used to lure you at the major retail stores. What you are left with is a clean face that lacks the childish style reminiscent of your little brothers boombox, and there's info galore from four lines of text. I'm never saying "who's the artist? or "can that text scroll faster so i can read the rest of the song title!" Buy this player, you won't regret it!
    Pros:
Clean look, great sound quality, a beautiful info rich screen that's easy to see in direct sunlight, and most of the features a serious system designer could want......
    Cons:
......I want larger graphic equalizer! and a quick no hassle way to get to it!

This is a very nice head unit. I usually go with Pioneer, but I bought my wife a JVC earlier this year, and I liked it. It's built well, and it sounds great.
    Pros:
Great sound, nice to look At. Everything works as stated. I like how it auto dims when you turn your headlights on. The display is bright and easily readable in all levels of light. Has a case included for the face when you remove it.
    Cons:
    Nothing. Everything works well.

This is a great stereo. When I was shopping for this for my wife's '03 Toyota Corolla, the reason I went with this one instead of the other units in this price range, is the owners manual seemed easier to follow than any of the others. That was a big concern since my wife(not too technical) was going to be reading it. Also I appreciated that the USB connections were in the back of the stereo and could be hidden while in use. She loves it, and I working on the best way to mount the USB connections so they are convenient but not the focus of attention.
    Pros:
Owners manual well written(comparatively), and looks great, sounds great even with stock speakers, rear USB ports
    Cons:
Face is very shiny and hard to see in sunlight

    A95BT & Galaxy S3

Written By Brian, South Carolina on Saturday, December 22, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had initially purchased a Sony DSX - S130BTX, and had a deal-breaker problem with it. Talk volume was inaudible at maximum settings. So I looked around further and found this unit, the JVC A95BT. It works perfectly with the Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon) that I have. I am using an external amplifier so it sounds great! Bluetooth sound quality is pretty good for the streaming sources I have tried.
    Pros:
Works perfectly with the Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon) running Android 4.1.1.

    JVC KD-A95BT

Just had this head unit installed today and I love it. For me it was pretty easy to set up and all the features are great. I haven't used the Bluetooth yet so I can't comment on that. But overall sound quality is great. It makes my type r 6x8's sound great and that's without an amp. Definitely would recommend this head unit.
    Pros:
    Nice LCD display Color customization

This is a really nice head unit. I installed it on a motorcycle with amp and speakers. For the money i dont think u can get better sound quality. With 5v pre-amp signals it works great witg amp. The eq is amazing and time alignment really works. Also, there are endless color combinations that can be used in display which ups the cool factor. This head unit sounds much better than some others i have compared it to that cost as much as $150 dollars more.

    Great Head Unit!

Written By RyanH, Houston, TX on Thursday, August 23, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first head unit that has had time alignment and such steep crossover slopes. What a difference it makes. Just added a sub and will soon be upgrading the front speakers and adding an amp to them. If you like messing with your sound it is hard to beat this for the price. I have also really enjoyed the Bluetooth calling capabilities.
    Pros:
20W RMS of power, great crossover capabilities, Time Alignment, has Bluetooth calling. Great Sound!
    Cons:
I wish it had more than 5 bands of equalization. 20 would have been great! It takes some time to figure out the wiring. The mic plugs into the back and then you have to figure out where you are going to hide the wiring. The USB ports extend out from the back so i had to stick them through the back of my cd holder in my center console and the stick out. That might bother some people.

    Less for More...

Written By jmw589, Brandon, MS on Monday, July 02, 2012

I like this headunit it does have flaws. I have owned other JVC Arsenals headunits. My wife has an older one in her car, I had an older one in my car before. The description is misleading. I believed that the bluetooth was built in the device. It is not. It has a USB module and microphone that have to be run. I didn't want to have the microphone sticking out in my car. It also echos really bad and annoys people that I talk to on it. The fact that it needs a USB adapter, you lose one of your two USB slots. I would have liked to have had another USB slot on the front if I had know that I was required to give one up it the back. It doesn't have as many options as some older JVC Arsenal models such as the JVC KD-AHD75BT, have HD radio built in and bluetooth. Another thing I don't like is the equalizer. The presets are listed as "SOUND 1", "SOUND 2" , and so on. In my previous JVC each preset was listed as rock or hip hip or pop, etc.. This made it easier to switch when listening to different types of music. The display can be difficult to see when on the 4-line mode while wearing sunglasses during the day. The last thing that gets on my nerves is when I set the unit to headunit mode for iPod it is automatically switched to application mode when I plug in my iPhone and you have to go through all of the menus to put it back to headunit mode when you want to use you ipod again.
    Pros:
Sound quality. Looks good. Nice features. Nice display. 6 pre-amp outputs. Bluetooth.
    Cons:
Display hard to see during the day. Switching iPod modes is a pain. Preset EQ sucks. Bluetooth not built in and echoes. More expensive than models with more features. Not enough USB inputs. No HD radio.

    Sound Quality is So Improved

Written By Eli, NY NY on Saturday, May 26, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Don't know why I waited so long to replace my 06 Honda CRV stock radio. I did install a Alpine amp yrs ago to help it out but with this JVC sound quality is so improved, running with a Kicker comp. speaker set in front I forgot how much I love my music until I installed this unit. I originally tried the JVC KDR730Bt which was great but didn't like the front USB & AUX hanging out in in constant view, now the ipod / thumbdrive/aux in glove and now have 4 line display with song timeline bar, nice 5 band EQ. Not a big deal but you need to scroll thru a few menus to adjust the eq. It be great if you can set a custom "hotkey" to a particular function, maybe asking too much. Axxess steering wheel control worked perfectly. Still playing with the time alignment settings, confused though, if you have the time alignment on, then adjust any audio settings, fade/bal., eq, does the time alignment stay active?, Just need to experiment more. I wish it showed if/which time alignment is active since you can store multiple settings, it does show which eq is active. BT phone & Pandora w/droid great, Tried the JVC app but it kept locking up my phone running Pandora, maybe a BT conflict on my phone, I didnt investigate it that much and just uninstalled the JVC app, all is fine. Great radio!
    Pros:
Sound control, 4 line display w/ color choices, 5v preamp, BT, Steering wheel control adaptability.
    Cons:
    none

    LOVE Pandora

Written By Swunder, NJ on Friday, April 27, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent player, I bought it mainly for being able to control Pandora on my Android phone over bluetooth. This feature works wonderfully -- they pair quickly and all the controls work well (thumbs up/down, next, changing stations). One thing I like is that switching between Bluetooth audio and AM/other sources does not cause a pause in the connection so you can easily listen to a game and switch back to Pandora without having to restart everything. The display is very bright (was a concern with the Kenwood models) and the custom colors allow you to match it to stock very closely (if not exactly). I am a fan of the stock look, so this is great for the orange dashboard in my Mini Cooper.

I do not use enough of the other features to comment on value, I just bought the top end in the line for the cleaner look. I imagine most people (including myself) would be fine with cheaper models but the difference in price is not huge.

As others have mentioned, the JVC control app for Android phones doesn't make any sense at all. I control Pandora on my phone using the head unit itself, which makes sense because I can keep the phone in my pocket or cup holder while driving. If I had to control the radio from my phone I could use any player with an AUX input and do it that way.
    Pros:
Sounds great, looks clean, Pandora works better than I thought it would
    Cons:
JVC Android control app makes no sense

    WOW! What a suprise!

Incredible! This unit replaced my Pioneer DEH-P6000UB in my '86 Mustang. I had the external Pioneer HD tuner (useless to me) and the external Pioneer BT module. This JVC unit included the BT internal - works awesome with my Samsung Skyrocket. Here's the thing - I do not use my iPod in the car - I have all my music on USB drives - sorted in Artist folders. This JVC unit was the only one I found that lets you quick search your MP3 files alphabetically! Other manufacturer's only let you search your iPod alphabetically. When you have 1000+ MP3's on a thumb drive, you don't want to spin a knob all day long looking for your artist/song. You can quickly use a up/down rocker to select the letter of the alphabet to jump to and zing, you're there - then use the knob to rotate to your song or use the alphabet search again once inside the first folder! USB Drive friendly - and the song access from song to song is super fast. Haven't tested the iPod interface and don't plan on using it! Load all your songs on a $20 thumb drive and leave it connected!!! Sounds great too! One last note - the display I was not thrilled with when I first seen it - contrast was not that great - but then I realized this is a transflective LCD display - the more ambient light you poor on it, the better the contrast becomes! Doesn't get drowned out like OLED or fluorescent displays. I had bright morning sun hitting this display square on this morning and visibility of my MP3 tag info was awesome!
    Pros:
Sunlight readable display, Android Pandora artist display/thumbs up/down/skip and other streaming apps, easy to use without getting distracted!
    Cons:
None that I've seen yet! Thanks JVC!

    It's all about the ANDROID!!

Written By Brian S., San Diego on Saturday, April 07, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There are just so many radios that are built around the iPhone... Now Android, (and Blackberry), get to have some fun!! I have a Motorola Droid Bionic, and it works GREAT with the KD-A95BT. The Pandora feature is fully functional through Bluetooth and is one of my favorite things about the unit. Voice dialing and phone call clarity are better than expected. The audio sound quality is very good, though I am not using any amplifier of sub-woofer. I like how the screen can show 3 lines of information, so whether I'm in Pandora or my phone's music player, I can see all the song info on screen. I like that it can have 2 phones simultaneously paired, so if my wife and I are in the truck, we can both take calls through the head unit. The screen flashes blue for me and pink for her. Of course the callers name and phone number also appear, so we don't need to pick up our phone at at all. I like how it has a second rear AUX USB cable. Even though my phone can communicate wirelessly, I routed the cable from the back of the unit through a hole in the back of the unused ashtray. So the cable sleeps in there, and if I need to charge my phone, I can pull it out and rest it in the cup holder. Or if a friend has a an iPhone or MP3 player, they can connect it with this cable. Nice!
    Pros:
Pretty much my whole review is a PRO for the KD-A95BT!!
    Cons:
The JVC Android App may be more of a gimmick than a practical application. Maybe I'll get into it more, but basically, it's encouraging me to pick my phone up while I'm driving, which is illegal in California. It may be just my phone, but the connection sequence takes a couple of minutes every time I turn the truck on. Maybe that's not too long, I'm probably impatient!

    • Yes all red or blue or green or what ever combo you like. I have not used Pandora in my car because I have Virgin Mobile and we get terrible cell tower coverage in So MD. [ STEVEN   Jun 15, 2014 ]
    • Yes to both.It allows you can change both the display and button colors independently of each other as well. [ STEVEN   Jun 15, 2014 ]
    • Josh, Yes, you can do both of those. Andrew [ Andrew   Jun 15, 2014 ]

Can I use the dash light dimmer switch to dim my JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT variably? Rather than just nighttime dim or daytime no dim? Thank you! [ Jim  May 31, 2014 ]
    4 answers
    • I have this radio. I dont think so JIm. It will either switch to night time or day time color. For the price its a really great radio. Looks a little plain in person but I love the sound quality and features. [ GREG   May 31, 2014 ]
    • Nope. There's no variability from the dash dimmer, but you can change the brightness and color to something less offensive in the nighttime dim settings. [ GEARL   May 31, 2014 ]
    • only if you can wire it directly to the dimmer/rheostat. [ EDWARD   May 31, 2014 ]
    • Have not tried that specifically, but have used my vehicle dimmer, and noticed no difference in the head unit illumination. Doesn't mean it's not possible though. [ JIM   May 31, 2014 ]
