Our take on the JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT

by Zak Billmeier
JVC

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT CD receiver

Local radio lovers, here's one for you
Do you listen to AM/FM radio in your car? Your favorite stations will sound better than ever if they broadcast the digital sound of HD Radio™. The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT CD receiver gives you a built-in HD Radio tuner that pumps up the FM sound quality to near-CD level, while making AM broadcasts sound like traditional FM. Since participating stations can broadcast multiple channels on the same frequency, you may find you have more choices than ever before. And it's backed by the rock-solid Arsenal two-year warranty.

The power and versatility of Bluetooth®
You may already know that Bluetooth lets you talk hands-free in the car, but now it lets you do so much more. Pair up your Android™ smartphone or Blackberry™, and you'll get some cool features — you can receive text message notification, stream music, or access Internet radio stations, depending on your phone's abilities. You can also play the audio from many other apps. Think of Bluetooth as a wireless bridge between your smartphone and your dash.

iPhone® lovers get the same features when connected via USB. JVC also lets you pair two phones at once, so there's no need to choose between your personal and business lines. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance if your call is coming from home or the office. To answer a call, just tap the volume knob.

Apps for Android
JVC's Android app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control receiver functions using finger swipes and gestures — for example, tap the screen to play and pause, or swipe right to skip forward a track. So pop your Android phone in a mount, and you can reach down to skip a track without taking your eyes off the road.

Control Pandora® Internet radio
JVC makes it easy to play your favorite Pandora stations. iPhone users can control Pandora when connected to the USB slot, while Android and Blackberry owners get full control of Pandora through the Bluetooth connection, depending on your phone's features.

Higher-power USB connection
JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to its internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    HD Radio + Sirius Ready

Built-in HD Radio: With the built-in HD Radio tuner, you can receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. HD Radio technology significantly improves audio quality and reception, as well as includes information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD Radio Technology will deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality sound with static free and clear reception.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to HDRadio.com to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting, it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

Text Display: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The built-in HD Radio tuner displays song title, artist and station information on the display of the JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT.

iTunes Tagging: It is possible to save the song's information (tag) from a HD Radio broadcasting station to your USB-direct connected iPod/iPhone. The songs will show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the next time you sync your iPod/iPhone. Then you can directly buy the songs you want from the iTunes Music Store. You can "tag" up to 50 songs.

Note: Your iPod/iPhone must have at least 50MB of free space to "tag" and transfer songs. iTunes 7.4 or later is required to purchase "tagged" songs.

Analog Broadcasts: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the KD-AHD75BT can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Digital/Analog Tuning: You can setup the KD-AHD75BT to search both analog and digital radio stations, only HD Radio stations, or analog radio stations only.

Digital/Analog Presets: You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM digital/analog presets stations as presets (HD Radio multicast channels can also be preset). Presets can be set manually or automatically, using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM).

Radio Timer: You can tune into a preset station at a specific time regardless of the head unit's current source. You can activate the Radio Timer once, daily, or turn it completely off.

Mono Mode: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.

IF Filter: You can also switch the analog tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

    Built-in Bluetooth

USB Bluetooth Adapter: The JVC KD-AHD75BT comes supplied with a USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) which is pre-installed into the head unit's rear-panel USB input, making the KD-AHD75BT Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR certified. The KD-AHD75BT supports Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming.

Note: The USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) must remain plugged into the rear-panel USB port, or can also be installed in the head unit's front-panel USB port.

Bluetooth Technology: Bluetooth is a two-way wireless communication system allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, as well as wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth enabled portable music player using the JVC in-dash CD receiver. Bluetooth wireless technology operates on a 2.4GHZ frequency band within a range of approximately 10 meters (about 33 feet).

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: Your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or digital audio player must be paired with KD-AHD75BT before hands-free & wireless operation. You can register up to five Bluetooth enabled devices with the JVC head unit. You can keep two phones connected at all times (only one can be used during a call).

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC head unit. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

External Microphone: The JVC KD-AHD75BT includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 12' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.485" (depth).

Note: This unit does not offer an integrated front-panel microphone.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The front-panel controls of the KD-AHD75BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also features an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers (front or all). During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker, the head unit's display will flash (Ring Color), and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the KD-AHD75BT's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call. You can adjust the head unit's ring color from the unit's 29 preset colors or 30,000 custom colors.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the KD-AHD75BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
      • Speed Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KD-AHD75BT. If you phonebook contains a lot of contact numbers, you fast search (+/-10, 100, or 1000) through the phonebook by using the unit's control dial. You can also do an A-Z search to scroll the downloaded phonebook. Up to 5,000 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long.
      • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

SMS: If your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is compatible with SMS (Short Message Service), the JVC head unit will notify you when a message has been received. You must then use your phone to check the message.

Note: You cannot read, edit, or send a message through this unit.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KD-AHD75BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KD-AHD75BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, and Fast Forward/Rewind. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Song and Album title. The KD-AHD75BT also supports audio streaming of music apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Rhapsody, & Slacker) , but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

The USB ports enable audio playback and control of MP3, WMA, & WAV audio files stored on portable USB mass-storage class devices. Both of the USB terminals can be connected to USB devices at the same time. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (5V/1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On. You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

Note: The rear-panel USB port comes with the KS-UBT1 Bluetooth adapter installed. The this Bluetooth adapter must remain installed for Bluetooth functionality. It can be removed to allow connection of a second USB (MSC) device.

Drive Change Mode will let you switch between your Android or BlackBerry smartphone's internal and external memory (such as microSD Card), so you can listen to music stored on either memory. You'll continue to be able control basic playback functions; such as folder/file search, play/pause, and skip next/previous; regardless of memory type.

Auto Drive Router lets you record your traveled routes and store recorded data on your iPhone, using Google Maps. E-mails with map data can also be sent quickly and easily from your iPhone, letting others know where you are or where you want to meet. You can start and stop when Auto Driver Router records your routes using the in-dash CD receiver's controls. You can also send an email template to your predetermined contacts directly from the receiver's controls. You can do all this while still listening to stored music or streamed music from your iPhone on the JVC KD-AHD75BT.

It is also possible to zoom in and out of maps on your iPhone, as well as see the speed and altitude of routes in a graph format on the iPhone's touchscreen. By connecting an iPhone with this app installed to the KD-AHD75BT, you can record routes via the control knobs and buttons of the in-dash head unit.
    • Here I AM: When you select the "Here I Am" function on the Auto Drive Router app, a flag showing "Here I Am?" will appear on the on-screen Google Map of your iPhone to indicate your current location. And by using a default template, an e-mail will also be created instantaneously for delivery of the map to multiple recipients. The flag can also be placed in different locations on the on-screen map of the iPhone with the "Here I Am" function being used to e-mail changes in meeting spots. When your iPhone is connected to the JVC CD receiver, your email templates can be selected and sent directly from the head unit.

MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-AHD75BT can play MP3/WMA files (5-320 kbps) that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-AHD75BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-AHD75BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-AHD75BT are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-AHD75BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Pro EQ: The KD-AHD75BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Pro EQ
    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed

Source Link EQ: This feature allows you to store Pro EQ bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, HD Radio, Aux, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, and Pandora).

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

4.8V/6CH Preamp Output: The KD-AHD75BT is equipped with three pair of 4.8V preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front & rear preamp outputs offer balance/fade control and are designed to hookup to a full-range 4-channel amplifier. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading and designed to hookup to a mono-block subwoofer amplifier.

High-Pass Crossover: The KD-AHD75BT features a High-Pass Crossover for the front & rear speaker-outputs or preamp-outputs. You can adjust the high-pass crossover from 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 150 Hz, or Off. The 'Off' selection is a full-range setting.

Subwoofer Controls: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT offers the following subwoofer controls, when you have the unit's subwoofer preamp output activated.

    • Low Pass Crossover: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Crossover for subwoofer preamp output. You can select from 55 Hz, 85 Hz, 120 Hz, or off.
    • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (0-8) from the CD receiver.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

Note: An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit.

Variable Color LCD & Key Illumination: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT features 29 color presets for the LCD and button illumination. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color preset or custom color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons except the eject button (it remains red). You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination, or use a separate color for each one. You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD and button illumination.

Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

Great features at a great price

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All the features i wanted in a head unit. Bluetooth audio streaming and phone, 3 sets of high gain pre-amps, HD radio (which is so much better than regular fm), color changing, removable face. Many people complain about the dimmer at night still being too bright but I thought it is fine, fully adjustable. Love that I can have different colors for day and night.

    Really only 1 USB

Written By Chuck, Dillon, CO on Wednesday, July 02, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

JVC makes you think this has built-in Bluetooth, as well as 2 USB inputs, front/rear. However, you have to use one of the USP ports for the included (not built-in) Bluetooth to USB adapter, so if you use the BT functions of this unit, you give up one of the USB ports. So if you want to use hands-free BT phone functions, you lost a lot of the capability of this unit. I wanted to hook up a thumb drive to one USB port and an iPod to the other, but can't do that. If you're looking for a true 2 USB unit, this isn't the one. The one I returned to Crutchfield also had a faceplate that would not eject properly. In addition I HATE the feel of every single button on this unit, you could not tell if you were actually pushing them or not. When navigating files and folders on USB thumb drive, it was very difficult to scroll through folders, and the unit cannot display any sub-folders, just shows them all so you get a very lengthy and confusing list. Finally, there is no way to pause playback from an iPod/iPhone via the head unit, VERY frustrating !! Would not recommend this unit to anyone.
    Pros:
    None
    Cons:
Really only one USB Horrbile button feel and useability Useless USB folder interface

    Great Radio

Written By Mark, Highland, MI on Thursday, April 10, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very Happy with JVC Arsenal. I replaced dead OEM radio in 2007 Impala. I didn't have any complaints about the oem unit but I should have...the Arsenal is a dramatic and notable improvement in sound quality. Particularly clearer bass. The JVC will never look like the OEM - but color-matching the display goes a long way to help. The display brightness has a day/night setting. I would like the night setting to be a little dimmer but no big deal really. HD radio sounds great - really improves AM stations considerably. I live a little ways into rural area, and I would say the reception in general is no better than OEM. On the fringes of the range HD can drop in and out. It turns out my favorite feature is the phone call sound quality. I have tried a couple of different wired mic headsets plugged into the phone, bluetooth headset, just the speaker phone, and holding the phone to my ear. Others (wife in particular) note sound quality on the other end is far better than any of the options I have used in the past. Its great to just talk in a normal tone/volume and be heard clearly.
    Pros:
Bluetooth/phone sound quality Tuner sound quality Display color adjustment
    Cons:
night mode brightness is a bit too bright

    A great radio so far

Written By Traintech86, SF Bay CA on Tuesday, April 08, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have this set up in an odd configuration and it worked out flawlessly. I have the rear usb cable connected to an extension cable and i routed that cable In a way that it hangs out of the rear side of the armrest. I wanted this so if a rear passenger wanted to plug in something to charge or even play on the stereo, they could. I tried shuffling the Bluetooth adapter between USB connections and it works in the front or the rear. I tried to see what kind of range i could get and even though i have a big SUV, i got up to 10 feet from the vehicle before it started to cut out. I have yet to test the Aux connector as with all these options, i don't really need to use it. Maybe i'll run my CB radio into it. Over all, the deck is a little expensive but honestly, the installation was simple and it is really easy to use. I will be buying another one of these for my other vehicle.
    Pros:
2 USB connections (the bluetooth adapter uses 1 usb so i plug it into the faceplate when i want to use it.) Aux in (when all else fails right?) Bluetoth for phone and music streaming (I have a samsung galaxy note 3 and the stereo even can play and pause the phone!)
    Cons:
The price was a little bit high but I am happy with it for sure. When I went to put it into my 94 land cruiser, it was a bit crowded. I believe this to be more a problem with the vehicle as this deck seems to be the same size as every other one i have seen.

I put this stereo in a 31 year old car & I am very pleased with the result. Using factory speakers limits how loud it plays, but at moderate volumes it is very pleasing to listen to. The reason I chose it was it had all I needed, Bluetooth, variable color display, CD player, HD radio, USB input & a detachable face. The buttons on the face control my BlackBerry music w/ease & it connects right up when get in the car for hands free phone use. I could have spent much more for something because of a name but I am glad I didn't.
    Pros:
Ease of use. Quick set up & quality of sound. Easy to learn controls.
    Cons:
    High volume sound quality.

A little tough to work the small buttons and takes a while to get comfortable with.

    Good but with flaws

Written By Matt, Kansas City on Sunday, February 09, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

To be honest, I wouldn't buy this again. I chose it specifically because the JVC units have the adjustable button and display brightness. I can't stand head units that are lit up like an airport at night...distracting. So, I installed the unit and it sounds decent. BT phone pairing is good. You can adjust the color to match your dash fairly close...

    BUT...

Even on 00 brightness on the knob side, the illuminated areas around the volume knob are too bright. Zero brightness to me means zero brightness. Not here. The dimmest setting is probably 50% brightness, which in this case is pretty bright. Even with my dash lights on max, the selector knob area is the brightest thing on the dash. Annoying.

Second big carp: The HD radio lags behind standard def. So you start to get the station on standard, then it switches to HD and lags a couple seconds. You can indeed turn the HD off and run analog, but this is deceiving. The second you change channels, you have to AGAIN set it to hold analog or you get the annoying phase shift again and again. When I read the detailed description of this item before purchase, it made it sound like you can turn OFF the HD if you wish. Well, you kinda can, but to me OFF is OFF, not having to set it each time you change stations. There should be a master HD off function.

I feel that the high level of display adjustments and ability to screen out HD are misrepresented or at the least greatly exaggerated.

    Pros:
Affordable. Lots of features on paper for the price. Many color choices for display. Decent build quality.
    Cons:
Can't turn illumination down far enough despite being billed as adjustable. Even lowest setting on DIM is too bright on left side of control panel. HD radio is annoying and too fiddly to lock onto analog.

    Great value with some drawbacks

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, I think it I got a great value for the money, but there are some minor annoyances. The radio reception is very good. Much better than than the Subaru factory radio. The bluetooth sound quality is good. People comment on how clear it is all the time. The menu system is cumbersome, but I guess it is to be expected for a single din unit with this many features. Fortunately, after initial setup, you don't need to get in to it too much. The button layout to left of volume control is crowded which makes it very easy to hit the wrong button. Fortunately, the supplied remote duplicates most of the functions and is very simple to use. I attached the remote to a lanyard and place it around the gear shifter so it won't get lost. With the remote you can switch between inputs, radio presets, seek stations, control ipod and adjust volume. I've found two glitches with the ipod interface. Sometimes the displayed song name gets out of sync with the song playing. Switching forward or backward between songs doesn't correct it. You have to change to a different input and then back to ipod to correct. The other glitch shows up when I have the ipod nano set to fade 1 song in to another for uninterrupted playback. There is a minor click and/or interruption in the music (quarter second or so) between songs. I haven't called JVC on this yet. Maybe a firmware upgrade can take care of it.
    Pros:
    - Excellent radio reception - very clear bluetooth handsfree sound quality - Easy to use remote
    Cons:
    - confusing menu system - cheap feeling buttons and crowded layout - Some ipod interface glitches

I had the previous HD model for this unit and it worked like a champ.
    Pros:
HD built-in, Bluetooth, front AUX and USB
    Cons:
They removed the button on the face for the preset EQ, now you have to use the remote to go through them quickly.

    Good radio so far

The radio sounds pretty good. Still haven't been able to figure out how to assign preset stations 7 through 18. Not able to set the night time colors. The installation kit is not as solid as the OEM bracket. It rattles so I'm going to have to do something to fix it.
    Pros:
Wiring diagrams were easy to follow.
    Cons:
Specific items like setting the preset stations above 6 and setting the night time colors were not obvious (from the manual). Could use some improvements here.

This is the second one of these that I have bought. Bought the first for my 05 Tacoma 4x4 and the second one for my girlfriends 05 4Runner. This receiver works great. I really like the front and rear USB connections and devices can be charged on both. Don't know how the Bluetooth module works since I routed the rear USB cord into the glove box on both trucks and have a primary iPod connected to the rear USB.
    Pros:
USB charging of multiple devices at the same time. Have been able to charge iPhones, iPad and iPod (2 at a time) and still select which device to play music from.
    Cons:
navigating menu for settings can be a little frustrating. Definitely not for adjusting while driving.

This is a great product with blue tooth options that can't be beat at any price!
    Pros:
Blue tooth, HD radio, CD, Pandora, phone and music via blue tooth.
    Cons:
The only reason I gave 4 stars is due to the angle of my dash the display is *VERY* hard to see. Sunlight completely washes the display out.

    jvc arsenal...pick something else

A few months ago I got a new Sony car stereo for my wifes jeep. We both have android phones so I got whatever one had all the android compatibility stuff. It really is a well featured radio. It does integrate all her phone stuff. So, fast forward like 6 months and its time for me to get a new one. I want my head unit to have hd and this new jvc arsenal supposedly has all these integration points with android phones too. The sound is great. The hd stations come in amazing....BUT if you buy this radio to connect with your phone forget it. Get the sony. This thing is a joke. It doesnt give yiu the text msg alert like it says it does, it doesnt even play navigation directions over the speakers. Too much money for "just a stereo."
    Pros:
    Sound quality, hd stations
    Cons:
Doesnt do much of anything when paired up with your phone.

Excellent so far. Love the multi-colored display. I leave it on Demo mode and the colors change constantly, like and old Jukebox. Had one time glitch when a disc failed to insert fully. Had to pull the disc to get it out but the player would not stop . Removed faceplate and killed the power to stop it. Not sure what happened exactly to cause this malfunction. My have been O.E. (operator error).
    Pros:
Sound and build quality seem to be excellent. Really cool display.
    Cons:
    None really.
