    Display & Remote Features

3" LCD: The JVC KD-AV31 features a 3.0" full-color widescreen (16:9) LCD with a resolution of 320 (H) x 240 (V) with 76,800 total pixels. The 3.0" LCD screen supports video playback, photo display, and song/artist information. You can adjust the dimmer level of the LCD to Low or High. During video & photo playback, you can adjust the LCD screen's brightness, contrast, and color.

Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the green wire (attached to rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display "PARKING is not enabled. No video while driving". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu settings, source information, and metadata.

Fold-Down Detachable Face: The JVC KD-AV31's front-panel folds down to insert and eject your disc. The face-plate is detachable to deter theft. A hard-plastic face case is included to store the face-plate when it is detached. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit.

Remote Control: The JVC KD-AV31 comes with an IR remote control and offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately).

    • IR Remote: The KD-AV31 receiver comes with an IR remote control for full wireless operation of the DVD receiver.
    • Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
    Disc & USB Playback

Disc Compatibility: The JVC KD-AV31 supports playback of DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-Audio, CD-R/RW, and VCD discs. The unit supports MPEG1/MPEG2 video, MP3/WMA music files, and JPEG still-images loaded onto these DVD and CD discs.

Front-Panel USB Port: The KD-AV31 features a front-panel USB type-A port for connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device, such as as a USB thumbdrive or digital audio player. The USB port enables playback of  MPEG1/MPEG2 video, MP3/WMA music files, and JPEG still-images stored on a compatible USB MSC device. USB portable audio devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the DVD receiver's USB port (5V/1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: This unit's USB port is not compatible with Android smartphones/tablets or Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad. Not compatible with USB hubs, computers/laptops, or digital camera/camcorders.

Compatible Media Files: The JVC KD-AV31 supports the following types of audio, video, and photo files recorded onto a disc or loaded onto a USB mass storage class device.

Media Type Disc (CD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW) Flash (USB MSC)

Playback & Search Functions: The JVC KD-AV31 offers a variety of playback and search functions to help you find and enjoy your music on disc and USB.

    • Track/Folder List: The Track/Folder List displays a list of music folders and tracks on an inserted disc or USB device, so you can easily access your music.
    • Repeat: Track Repeat (plays the current track repeatedly), Folder Repeat (plays all tracks of the current folder repeatedly), Off (cancels repeat function)
    • Random: Folder Random (plays all tracks of the current folder, then the tracks of the next folder in random), All Random (plays all tracks of the current disc at random), Off (cancels random function)
    • Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc or USB device). Next time you select disc or USB for the playback source, the player will start from where it has been stopped previously.

Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 20 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. The source will change to disc, and the disc will begin playback, even if you have another source selected at the time.

    Audio & Tuner Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KD-AV31 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KD-AV31 are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

2.5V/2CH Preamp Output: The KD-AV31 is fitted with 2.5V/2CH pre-outs for the rear channels only. These rear-channel pre-outs are fade capable.

8 EQ Presets: You can choose between 8 EQ Presets to tailor the head unit's sound for all types of music. Choose from User, Flat, Pop, Rock, Classic, Jazz, Optimal, & Techno. The User mode allows you manually adjust the receiver's Bass & Treble.

Bass Boost: There is also a Bass Boost feature to emphasize the head unit's Bass sound even more, even at lower volume.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The JVC KD-AV31 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can store a total of 18 FM stations presets and 6 AM station presets. The radio allows you to set your AM/FM stations manually or automatically. The Local Seek feature tunes in only the AM/FM stations with a strong signal strength. The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.

    AV Connectivity

Front-Panel Aux Input: A front-panel stereo minijack is provided to allow the connection of almost any portable audio source with a 3.5mm headphone output. Simply connect your portable digital music player to the unit's front-panel auxiliary input, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

Backup Camera Input: The rear-panel backup camera input consists of a composite video connector which allows you to connect an optional rear-view camera (sold separately). The unit features a reverse gear signal wire (purple/white), that when connected to your vehicle's reverse light circuit, will automatically switch the KD-AV31's display to the rear-view camera input. Automatic video switching takes approximately 3.0 seconds.

Video Output: A single RCA composite video-output jack allows you to an add external monitor such as rear headrest monitor (sold separately). The video output can display a DVD or USB device video signal when its selected as the receiver's source, regardless if the vehicle's parking brake is engaged or not.

No you cannot change the color. You can only lower the brightness. And you only can either have it high or low.

    Q
When hooked up to display the output from a backup camera, can I power from reverse lighting and is it necessary to have then receiver turned on in advance and have the backup mode selected? In other words, can I be sure the backup display will appear regardless of any settings when I put the car in reverse?

"The unit features a reverse gear signal wire (purple/white), that when connected to your vehicle's reverse light circuit, will automatically switch the KD-AV31's display to the rear-view camera input. Automatic video switching takes approximately 3.0 seconds." You will find this information, and more by clicking the "Details" tab on the JVC's main webpage and scrolling down below to the "Features & Specs" table. For the camera itself, I recommend connecting it to a 12volt switched lead so it is always ready to provide video when you put the vehicle into reverse. I hope that helps! Thanks for your question. The rear-panel backup camera input consists of a composite video connector which allows you to connect an optional rear-view camera but it is not included. (Sold Separately) Hope that helps.
