    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit stopped working after only a couple months. I contacted JVC and was instructed to send it to a service center in NY, at my own expense ($15 Fedex). A MONTH later, I still don't have my radio back. JVC customer service is terrible.

I just received an invoice (by mail, to waste another few days) for the repair on this radio. I called the service center and told them JVC was supposed to fix this under warranty. They said they hadn't been contacted by JVC. I call JVC, they said that I should have sent in copies of my receipt/warranty info. I was never told this when I was instructed to send the radio in.

At first I wasn't upset....products are sometimes faulty. But driving several hours a day to work and back in complete silence gets old after a month.

I would not recommend this product to anyone. Any JVC product for that matter.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my factory AM/FM single disc player with this unit. The installation
was in a Ford F250 and was done in less than 30 minutes. As usual
Crutchfiled sent everything I needed such as an adapter frame for the dash
and a wiring harness adapter for plug-in convenience. Some soldering was
required on the harness, but that could be done before putting it in the truck so
easy enough. Haven't used the CD player much and mainly plug my Zune into
    the aux input jack.

I was so impressed that I got a second unit and installed it in my Airstream
travel trailer. This was a custom installation so it took me some time. What
counts is that it has held up well over the past year and still sounds great.

I love this JVC head unit, its stylish but not too flashy, its easy to use, very affordable and
a great upgrade from stock. Ive got one in my 86 mustang and now i just installed
another one for my 96 cherokee. Couldnt be happier with it. Its one of the best bang for
the buck head units out there (in my opinion)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a modern bare bones radio in that it has a simple face Aux jack to plug
in an iPod or other player. It's controls are very simple to use and takes no
time to get used to. It has all the features I want for a simple upgrade from a
factory unit at a very reasonable cost. I put this in a Civic for my daughter
to use and it was tight to be sure, but as usual, the Crutchfield instructions
were A+ !! I've had several JVC units and everyone has been a stellar performer
and very durable, and so far this is no different. It has plenty of power to
drive the new speakers I also put in all around with excellent results. Very
satisfied with this purchase. If you are looking at a low cost replacement,
    this should be seriously considered.

I am very pleased with this unit. As a factory replacement with upgraded features, like
aux input (ipod/pm3 player), this radio does well. Great "factory" sound quality. With the
Crutchfield wiring kit, installing it was a breeze. Quick delivery from Crutchfield as well. I
enjoy ordering from them. Great Customer Support.

My fiance doesn't care much about the anything too fancy but really wanted a unit with an
auxillary input. This one did the trick, was inexpensive and came with a few bonuses
including a small remote. The only negative I've seen so far - while the buttons are
illuminated and easy to see in low light, the function of a particular button is NOT
illuminated well and can make for some confusion if attempting to operate in low light.
    Overall, definitely worth the price.

It works well for the money. Installation was fairly straightforward. The only
complaint I have so far is that the aux line in is a little quiet even after
adjusting it to max. Often I have also to turn my mp3 player volume up to max
before the volume in the car is the same for radio and aux.

I installed this JVC unit in my Mercury Grand Marquis. When I puchased this unit I received JVC 16 by 9 speakers. I installed the speakers in the rear deck (perfect fit) and the receiver in the dash. Sound is much better than the original setup. My car had the premium sound with the amplifier in the trunk. Setup was a breeze with Crutchfield's instruction sheet. The tech advisors were great with info I needed. This unit sounds fantastic! All this for a great price. Great job Crutchfield.

If all your doing is replacing a factory head unit and your not making any big upgrades anywhere else in the cars sound system then you will get your moneys worth out of this unit. However if (like me) you have bigger plans then your budget allows then this is not the unit for you! The unit gets vary distorted at higher volume levels and the "switchable sub controller" is sub par! In woofer mode you cant isolate or control the sound from the sub woofer to the inside speakers, So if you want big bass in the trunk u have to turn the bass of the whole unit up which causes even more distortion on the inside of the car. This is my first and maybe last JVC (this brand was suggested by a friend that has a $300 JVC unit)...I'm shopping for a Pioneer now!

This deck is awesome! Plenty of power, great sound, it looks good and the price is
unbeatable! I don't see the need to buy anything more expensive than this if all you need
is a Cd player and an iPod input. This gets the jobs done most excellently. It's got plenty
of juice to play as loud as you want to annoy your neigbors.

If you buy this you wont be disappointed in the least. JVC makes quality products and
    this is no exception.

I have really enjoyed the quality of the sound through my factory speakers using this
receiver. I also love the capability to play and listen to CDs, both audio and mp3s!!!!! I
would recommend this system to anyone thinking about upgrading their current receiver

system to help install this unit. Five stars!!

Love this receiver! It has more power and a sleeker look than my old one that I had since 2000! I had put it in three different cars, & it never let me down. If I have to sell this car in the next few years, the new receiver will be going with it to let the JVC legacy be passed on to another. Thanks Crutchfield! I also have the same love for your company. I got my first and now third receiver through you!

I purchased this receiver to replace an older aftermarket radio in my work car. So far I've been very pleased with the performance of this unit. The sound is crisp and clean, the FM reception is great, and the AUX input is awesome for listening to the music on my iPhone. I highly recommend this unit if you are looking for a good all around receiver at a wallet friendly price. Other pros include the detachable face and the remote control.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The unit features a detachable face to deter theft. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Clock Display: While playing a CD, you can switch between the clock display and the CD elapsed time display (the track number always appears). While listening to the radio you can switch between the clock display and the station frequency display. When you press the Display button during power off, the unit will turn on, display the clock for 5 seconds, then shut off. This can be done with the ignition on or off. In the unit's menu, the clock can be set to display with the unit on or off, only turning off when the ignition is turned off ("keyed" operation).

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display and button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times) or On (display and button illumination is always dimmed). Note that the amount of dimming is fixed; it cannot be adjusted.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-R210 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-R210 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-R210 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-R210 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Sound Adjustments: In addition to manual bass, midrange, and treble settings (-6dB to +6dB @ 60Hz, 1kHz and 7.5kHz), this unit also has six selectable preset tone control and Loudness setting combinations. Each of the sound modes may be adjusted to your preference and stored in memory. The preset  modes are:

    i-EQ Bass Midrange Treble Loud
    Rock +03 00 +02 Off
    Classic +01 00 +03 Off
    Pops +02 +01 +02 Off
    Hip Hop +04 -02 +01 Off
    Jazz +03 00 +03 Off
    User (Flat) 00 00 00 Off

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-R210 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Switchable Preamp Output: The KD-R210 is equipped with one pair of 2.5V preamp outputs. You can set the rear preamp outputs for connecting rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading, and you can set the cutoff frequency of the low pass filter at 90Hz, 135Hz, or 180Hz. The subwoofer level can be set between 0 and 8.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The JVC KD-R210 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with 3 FM bands and 1 AM band.

Preset Tuning: You can set six preset stations for each band, giving you a total of 18 FM stations presets and 6 AM station presets. The radio allows you to set your AM/FM stations manually or automatically.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing,

    Disc Playback

MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-R210 can play MP3 (8-320 kbps)/WMA files (8-320 kbps) that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. You can directly access folders numbered 01-12 (they must be assigned two-digit numbers when recorded). Each disc can have a maximum of 8 folder hierarchies, 255 folders, and no more than a total of 512 files and/or folders on each disc. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3 or WMA files.

Direct Track Access: You can directly access CD tracks 1-12 by pressing the station preset buttons. If a preset button is pressed for less than 1 second, the track corresponding to the number on the preset button is selected (for tracks 1-6). When a preset button is pressed for more than 1 second, the track corresponding to the number above the preset button is accessed (for tracks 7-12).

Random/Repeat Modes: The JVC KD-R210 offers the following Repeat and Random playback modes for your audio CDs.

    • Repeat: Track Repeat (plays the current rack repeatedly), Folder Repeat (plays all tracks of the current folder repeatedly), Off (cancels repeat function
    • Random: Folder Random (plays al tacks of the current folder, then the tracks of the next folder in random), All Random (plays all tracks of the current disc at random), Off (cancels random function)

Disc Résumé: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.

Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. The source will change to CD, and the disc will begin playback, even if you have another source selected at the time.

Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

    Aux Connection

Front Panel Auxiliary Input: A front panel stereo minijack is provided to allow the connection of a portable audio source. Just connect your portable digital music player to this unit, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

Auxiliary Level Adjustment: You can adjust the auxiliary input level to avoid the sudden increase of the output level when changing the source from external component connected to the Aux input jack on the control panel.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The KD-R210 comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK50). The remote contains Power, Attenuator, Sound, Source, Tracking and Volume functions. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V Lithium-cell battery (included).
