JVC KD-R730BT

Overview

Our take on the JVC KD-R730BT

Bluetooth is great for talking hands-free, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. Pair up JVC's KD-R730BT CD receiver and an iPhone®, Android™ smartphone, or Blackberry™, and you can harness the true potential Bluetooth has to offer — you'll be able to receive text message notification, stream music, or access Internet radio stations, depending on your phone's features.

Bluetooth® for hands-free calling...and much more

Bluetooth is great for talking hands-free, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. Pair up JVC's KD-R730BT CD receiver and an iPhone®, Android™ smartphone, or Blackberry™, and you can harness the true potential Bluetooth has to offer — you'll be able to receive text message notification, stream music, or access Internet radio stations, depending on your phone's features.

JVC's KD-R730BT CD receiver

Great for Android™ smartphones

JVC's Android app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control the action using finger swipes and gestures — for example, tap the screen to play and pause, or swipe right to skip forward a track. So pop your Android phone in a mount, and you can reach down and skip a track without taking your eyes off the road.

Pair two phones at once

The KD-R730BT's built-in Bluetooth lets you pair two phones at once — no need to choose between your personal and business phones. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance if your call is coming from home or the office. To answer a call, just tap the volume knob.

Higher-power USB connection

JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to its internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Control PANDORA® Internet radio

JVC makes it easy to play your favorite PANDORA Internet Radio stations. iPhone users can control PANDORA when connected to the USB slot, while Android and Blackberry owners get full control of Pandora over the Bluetooth connection, depending on your phone's features.

MOG

— over 15 million songs, available instantly

MOG is an award-winning online music service with one of the largest and best-sounding streaming catalogs in the industry. It's the only service to offer all of its music in the 320 kbps MP3 format — that higher bit rate translates to better sound. In fact, we use it frequently in the Crutchfield Labs to test high-end audio gear. MOG's "Primo" service ($9.99/month) gives you unlimited, ad-free access to their extensive music library of over 15 million songs on a wide range of devices including Sonos® and Logitech® Squeezebox™ network music players, Samsung TVs, your computer, iPad®, iPhone®, and Android™ devices. Just pair your iPhone to this JVC receiver, and you can control the music and view artist/song info on the JVC's screen.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Installation Note: This JVC receiver does not include the mounting screws needed for some installations. If you plan to install the radio yourself, you should have four M5 × 8mm (M5 × 3/8") flat-head screws on hand.

Got it at WalMart, very inexpensive, bought installation kit and had to go online to get wire harness for hooking into the factory radio, which had a 6 disc changer but broke about 4 years ago.

Awesome radio to have! I have been in the car audio scene ever since I was 16 and had my first vehicle I am now 21 years old and through the years I have always been told to stay away from JVC due to a bad reputation of skipping while playing CD's and easily shorting out. But boy where they wrong! I picked up this JVC for $60 lightly used with all the accessories at a pawn shop to replace a Kenwood radio that didn't have the Bluetooth streaming features and was starting to loose it's juice with my system I have. I love how easy it is to work with and I love all the features on it. I use this radio to stream Pandora and my favorite rock station 106.7 KBPI that is located in Denver, CO with IHeartRadio a lot and I love how well it is able to stream them both sound quality is beyond amazing. I would recommend anyone to buy this radio.

Pros: Bluetooth features App friendly Variable color display Great sound quality Very easy to work with when tuning

Cons: Only Con I have is the length of time it takes to connect the Bluetooth

    Installed in 2001 Mustang: Awesome

I had just installed this radio into our old 1995 525i. The harness was put together in one afternoon - totally took my time studying all three schematics (Crutchfield adapter cable, the mandatory PAC SOEM-4 Universal Interface cabling, and the JVC's cable. Taking the old radio out was easy. There was enough cabling length to hook the JVC to the car while the radio lay on the center console. Worked the first time! Nice sound. Great interface with my 3G3 iPhone. Fitting the PAC SOEM-4 Universal Interface unit into an open cavity in the otherwise tight dashboard interior was a challenge. I would recommend to the the makers of the PAC SOEM-4 Universal Interface that they consider making it flatter to allow better fit into a typical dashboard. The casing was very large, possibly to accommodate the RCA/wire slide switches, which could be replaced with circuit board micro-switches, thereby resulting in a flatter unit.

Pros: Great looks. Good sound. I'd buy another one - too bad it's discontinued!

Cons: PAC SOEM-4 Universal Interface was a much larger unit than I would have imagined. It took me a couple of hours of prodding to fit this mandatory interface into the tight cavity of the dashboard's interior! For anyone with a e34 BMW, it fits behind the dash computer, FYI. :-)

    Outstanding!!!

I just upgraded to this JVC unit to replace an aged Alpine CD reciever in my daughter's car. I was blown away by the vast improvement to the sound quality and clarity while using the same speakers... Infinity, Alpine, and 2 Rockford Fosgate 10's! It really brought new if into my old system. Not to mention the fact that she can now use the hands-free calling with bluetooth and connect to her iPod and listen to whatever she wants. Oh, she can also change the display colors to accent her mood. I have been a Crutchfield customer for years and for good reason, the support and value are unsurpassed. I am now suffering from stereo envy so I am plotting a system of my own and will be sure to have Crutchfield help me along the way.

Pros: Great price for all the features you get with this unit. Bluetooth is awesome, call clarity is great. iPod compatibility is flawless.

Cons: Takes a bit to get all the button functions figured out.

I paid a little more for this unit than some of the other JVC's. Really needed the sub preamp outputs. The sound quality of this thing is amazing. I have it installed in a 1989 GMC Sierra pickup that never really had much with the factory stereo. I have four infinity speakers along with a Bazooka sub. Totally impressed with everything about it. The four star rating on "Ease of Use" is really me being a novice with the system. Still a lot to learn but what I know so far is this thing rocks!

Pros: Sound quality, value, coolness, build. This has it all.

Cons: Will take a little while to learn everything this receiver does. Not really a "con"

Good product, great sound, easy installation

Pros: Nothing exceptional - it performs as advertised. Very pleased with the unit.

Cons: Wiring diagram was not quite right - everything matched up perfect with the exception of a blue power wire for the speaker power. The wire was capped off and indicated it was for some other use. Unfortunately Crutchfield customer service did not solve this problem. A local shop was familiar with the problem and it took less than 30 seconds to fix. This was installed in a 1994 Ford Ranger. Voice activated calling is problematic as with most voice command devices, but it should work.

This is quite easily my new favorite head unit. The bluetooth connectivity, the user adjustable audio settings for crossover cutoff frequencies, the independent radio zone lighting (both day and night time dependent if you want), the included remote control. This thing sounds GREAT as a replacement radio but, when paired and properly installed with an amp (or two) and some speakers...WOW!!!

Pros: Simply the best value I have found for the features. User adjustable settings for every function you could think of.

Cons: Love the look of the radio, but a textured volume knob vice the smooth polished chromed one would be better. Else fingers (especially winter gloved ones) tend to slide around the volume knob and not adjust anything.

No Clock When Radio Is Off

Written by: Certo from Shelby, NC on December 26, 2012

This unit replaces my now defunct Clarion which I adored and it has cleaner, more descreet representation of all nuances of every instrument, voice, syllable, etc. I've a good amp and 4-way speakers suited to the amp. I know a lot has to do with bettern digital recording these days; but the KD-R730BT replicates audio extremely well. __PROBLEM__ When the KD-R730BT is turned of, there's no clock; the unit is dark. Yes, the ignition is on; I'm not brain-dead. I wonder if the installer failed to connect a wire that stays hot. I've seen no other complaints about the lack of a clock when unit is off. I JUST HOPE SOMEONE SEES THIS AND CAN GIVE ME A CORRECT RESPONSE, NOW THAT THE UNIT IS OUT OF PRODUCTION AND NOT LIKELY TO GET MORE REVIEWS.

Pros: As stated, the audio is incredably clean, discreet, delivering every nuance almost as if it were on its own track.

Cons: No clock when unit is turned of even though ignition is either on or switched to accessory. :-( Whoever heard of a car/truck radio that doesn't display the time? Either there is a fault with this one unit or the installer failed to connect a stay-hot wire are my two guesses. SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME THE CLOCK FOR THE KD-R730BT WORKS WHEN UNIT IS OFF.

Crutchfield response on January 1, 2013 Unfortunately, this receiver does not display the clock when the unit is turned off.

This is an "OK" unit as installed in my current setup. I recently added new basic-quality speakers front and back to replace the JBL stock speakers. The head unit is running through the stock front and rear amps that came with the car. I didn't expect anything great so I would say I am pleased overall. I wanted to explore Blue Tooth and needed an AUX Input. The installation was fairly simple although the wiring harness was a little confusing up front. I figured it out, no problem, and had everything done in under 2 hours. If I could do this again, it would take 45 minutes or less. Blue Tooth functionality is cool. I can access phone contacts and music directly from the JCV front panel menu.

Pros: Great entry level unit if you want to get into Blue Tooth for the price.

Cons: Wiring harness was a little confusing to me up front. Also, there is no documentation as to where best to place the microphone for Blue Tooth phone calling.

    I'm impressed!

I bought this to replace a 5-year-old Sony stereo with iPod controls. Installation was a snap, and I love the ability to stream audio via Bluetooth. Controlling my iPhone 5 through the front USB port works great as well. My favorite feature is being able to change the colors of the buttons and display between day and night. I have had one problem with the Bluetooth not detecting my phone, but turning the unit off and on fixed it. The available features can't be beat for the price!

Pros: The BT microphone cable is long enough to route just about anywhere.

Cons: It's so cool I never want to leave my car!

Love this head unit!! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I am not a fan of the big pixel display. Bluetooth is great. CD and system function is straight forward. 15' cord allowed me to mount the mic above the rearview mirror instead of by the driver's window (less wind/road noise). As always, Crutchfield delivers superior product support at a price that can't be beat.

Pros: Affordable Bluetooth...great feature set...long BT mic cord

Cons: Large pixels on the display.

I bought this unit, primarily to use it to stream music from my Android device. I realize that iPhones are more prevalent, but it's disappointing for JVC to say they support Android, but then only document the iPhone/iPod use. Bluetooth operation is also disappointing with my HTC Evo 4G LTE. It's a new phone (not some old school bluetooth device. But unfortunately, you have to follow some yet to be determined procedure when turning on and turning off in order to keep bluetooth operational. IT seems that if I turn off bluetooth on the receiver before leaving the car, and then wait till bluetooth is connected before turning it back on, it works better. But the receiver will also mysteriously lose bluetooth connection while playing. Then I have to turn bluetooth off on the phone, go to FM on the reciever, and turn everything back on. Needless to say, when that was the primary reason for purchase, it's disappointing. The reciever as a whole works pretty well, and when Bluetooth is running, it works well. But the constant issues getting and staying connected mean you should probably buy a different unit if you want it to bluetooth streaming.

Pros: Ability to adjust color and light level on the unit for day and night. This works very well. Good sound quality for the price. Two USB jacks

Cons: Bluetooth connectivity not very good Volume knob doesn't stick out far enough and is difficult to turn without hitting other buttons or accidentally depressing it (muting the system)

Installed this into a 2010 HHR in place of stock radio. Decided on this unit because of good reviews on Crutchfield and features out of box, especially the ability to tie 2 phones into unit for handsfree operation. Also wanted ability to stream music from phone (Motorola DroidX2) into unit. Installation was a breeze with the Metra GMOS-LAN-03 GM Factory Integration Adapter the mounting kit and vehicle specific instructions from Crutchfield. Overall sound quality is markedly better than before and the handsfree bluetooth works perfectly. Only downside is the Pandora connectivity is rather hit and miss, sometimes it connects perfectly and I can see the current song info scrolling across the radio display and other times it will play the audio stream but no info is displayed. It either prompts me to setup Pandora on my phone or says No Name. Updating radio to latest firmware version made no difference. Am very pleased with the unit and its features and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for the best bang for the buck!

Pros: Handsfree bluetooth integration for 2 phones, Pandora and audio streaming from the internet from smartphone, Ability to customize colors to match vehicle lighting.

Cons: Pandora app connectivity is hit and miss for all the features it touts.

I replaced my factory radio and the four speakers in my Jeep Liberty with this unit and Kicker speakers. Wow what a great sound difference from the factory equipment! This unit is very easy to use and sounds fantastic. The best part of it all was all the installation accessories and support the Crutchfield supplied. The Jeep Liberty has Infinity amps on the front speakers and additional work was required to reconfigure the speaker harness in order for everything to operate properly. I could not believe how quickly the Crutchfield technical person on the phone solved my situation. I called on a Saturday and had no wait on the phone. As soon as I asked my questions, the technician had the answers I needed. Service support from Crutchfield far outweighs trying to save a penny somewhere else. For all you do-it-yourselfers, buy from Crutchfield!

I put this model in my kids car and was so impressed, I upgraded my older JVC Rcvr wit this one for bluetooth and Iphone play/charge, sounds better than the old one and new features made it worthwhile.

Pros: Nobody comes close to Crutchfield value/quality, throwing in the mastersheet and free adapter harness makes this an unbeatable deal, you can literally change out your factory rcvr in about 30 min, (plus 20 min soldering the adapter harness to the radio harness)

Easy installation with supplied adapters. Outstanding sound quality compared to stock system (premium) in '02 Mazda Tribute when using cd's, iPod or external input. The "4" rating is due to poor FM reception only, otherwise a great stereo at a great price.

Pros: Sound quality, BT, aux. inputs, ease of installation.

Cons: Poor FM reception when compared to stock radio. Buttons are too small.

Installed this into a 2004 Pacifica. Whenever our family would go on car trips we would use an FM Transmitter so that would could listen to our daughter's iPod, but this is horrible as the sound wasn't that great and had to keep changing the station. I decided to install this JVC unit so that both mine and my wife's Droid phones could connect over BlueTooth and we could still hook up our daughter's iPod with the connector. We love it so far. Its been about two weeks, but I've had my phone streaming Pandora over BT to this unit and it sounds great. What was really nice was using a micro-USB cable to actually charge my phone while streaming Pandora over BT...worked like a champ. Install was pretty easy as the only issue was with hooking up the steering wheel controls to the Pacifica...but the techs at Crutchfield got me through it. The unit actually grabs your contacts from your phone so that you can use it to make calls right from the unit. Works great. My daughter loves the ability to change the colors.

Pros: Bluetooth, iPod connector/charger, Easy to pair.

My son Dan suggested this particular JVC unit and also installed it to boot. It is working great, He installs stereos all the time and just might have a future in doing so. I'm 50 years old and love the blue tooth feature and am amazed at the sound enhancement the JVC unit has given Me. Next step for my 05 magnum wagon is 6 x 9 infinity KAPPA speakers and new dash speakers then moving on to an amplifier for some really good quality sound. Cant wait.

Pros: Great features, easy to use, and Big improvement in sound quality over factory unit. Love the hands free blue tooth. GREAT price. Love the USB ports.

Cons: Some buttons are small but am learning the remote can make up for that.

Great unit, but could be much better with a software patch, i would like to see a scrolling display between the song, station, and the time, and not have to hit the disp button each time i want this info. If it had less lights and flashy trim and a larger display it would be a far better unit. But the sound quality is great, the fm/am reception is not so great, the bluetooth works well, and all in all its worth the price

Pros: tons of features, and plenty loud

Cons: wish the display were bigger, and would show the time radio reception needs to be better, this unit does not pick up as well as the factory unit in my xl-7, stations i was able to pick up clearly have static.

I installed this receiver as a replacement for the factory unit in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler. I previously replaced the speakers, but this receiver makes a dramatic improvement in sound quality of my new speakers. I put the tiny bluetooth receiver in the front USB so I could hard-wire an iPod cable in the rear USB and guide it underneath my center console. It is so nice to be able to play music and make calls from my iPhone through the bluetooth. I am also very impressed with ease of use. If you read the manual, the controls become very intuitive. At least 1 or 2 other reviews complained that this unit can't do helpful features like hang up a call by pressing a button on the head unit, when in fact you can do that, it's listed clearly in the manual. When I press and hold the phone button on the stereo, it also activates Siri on my iPhone and asks who to call. If you don't have voice dialing, you can search your contacts using radio dials or program 6 speed dial numbers to the numbered buttons on the front of the unit. At $120 w/coupon code, it has far more features than any comparably priced unit. It's so nice that Crutchfield also includes the wiring harnesses and dash opening adapter for free! The instructions included were spot-on and I had no problem installing this myself (it was my first time installing a car stereo). This was my second purchase from Crutchfield and their service, selection, and pricing is unbeatable! I'll be a lifelong customer.

Pros: Great features, excellent phone integration, easy to use, and dramatic improvement in sound quality over factory unit. The hard case that was included for the removeable faceplate was a nice bonus that I wasn't expecting. I like that I can adjust the display to match any color, so that I can match the blue lights on the rest of my dash.

This unit has lots of features but works poorly with the iPhone. When you plug it in it silences the unit and then waits for you to select the audio source. You have to cycle through bt then aux then tuner to finally get USB. Oh and don't forget to select Pandora on the iPhone too. All my other docks at least make a guess that you want to play the iPhone. And as for pandora, well the Informative iphone pandora screen is cleared and replaced with a JVC banner and now you get limited information (got to select that too) and harder pandora navigation. All this messing around is hard to do when your driving hense 2 stars.

Pros: Lots of features and blue tooth. Good price. Like 2 USB ports.

Cons: Poor iPhone integration and poor pandora integration.

JVC did it again with this incredible stereo. It looks great and sounds even better. I stand behind JVC 100% and replaced a JVC tape deck that I installed over 15 years ago with this unit. The features are amazing. Wish it had HD radio, but you have to pay more for this feature. And to be honest HD radio is overkill considering I have a 16GB thumb drive in the unit 24/7 and it's loaded with music to play for months. Bang for the buck, this is the best unit hands down! And of course, Crutchfield is always amazing. Fast shipping, professional packing, and they have earned my business for eternity. Get this bad boy and you won't be disappointed!

It's not a bad head unit especially considering it's long list of features. Also, I noticed a lot of improvement in sound quality compared to my stock head unit so no complaints there. However I had a bunch of issues with it: - Reading from USB is unstable... sometimes it just stops in the middle of the songs or when going to the next track, prompting "not supported", the only remedy for which would be taking out the USB device and back in. I tried two different USB drives and results were the same. There may be an issue with my particular device since I didn't see anyone else having this problem. - It takes like 10-12 seconds when you insert the USB device before it starts playing. On my stock head unit, it took 2-3 seconds. - This is rather subjective but I didn't like the LCD display and the corny display of characters. - I've seen a few other head units and when it comes to working with controls this particular one is the least intuitive. I actually had to go through the manual for being able to access a few features - something I barely, if ever do.

Pros: - Android/Pandora integration - Two USB ports - Fine, crisp sound quality

Cons: - Very slow USB initialization - Unstable USB playback - Weird looking LCD display - Not intuitive controls

This was my first attempt, ever, at personally replacing a radio in a vehicle. At 71+, with a desire to try bluetooth in my '03 Ranger, I talked with Eddie at Crutchfield (who I actually "Googled" just looking for product). I called about another brand/model, but after Eddie and I talked he assured me that past performance of the JVC KDR730BT and the included kit, harness and DIN tool and the ever available technical help, that I could accomplish the install and be more than satisfied with the choice. I admit, i called more than just a couple of times, but true to his comments the guys i talked with were more than helpfull (and patient with the "old" man) in getting everything connected and installed properly. Eddie was great in his knowledge of product and sales technique. He upgraded the sale in dollars but it was to my ultimate satisfaction. What he asured me of was, in fact, a fact.. All of the parts i needed were included, fit and worked to my desire. I think that it may do more than i anticipated. I'm still learning about new things.

Pros: Great looks, quality and fit. Does much more that just play music.

Cons: The wiring harness was overwhelming at first, but the ever available "techies" at Cruthfield certainly have it together and have the ability to explain it to even a novice. Once they explained it I had no problems proceeding..

Pros: Bluetooth. Long mic cable allows you to wire it almost anywhere in the car. So easy to use. This is way more user friendly compared to my old pioneer. In short best purchase ever. Great if you are looking for a basic stereo with a few nice features at a good price.

I purchased this receiver to replace the old factory unit in my "97 Chevy Tahoe. I am very pleased with all of the features and amazing sound of this unit. My old truck is sounding great and it's really cool to be able to have new features such as the hands free phone and bluetooth music streaming in a '97 model vehicle. I located the microphone on the driver's side of the overhead console. I removed the console and the driver's side sun visor and fished the wires over the headliner to the hole for the sun visor and down the driver's side front column and then under the dash. Completely hidden. The unit was very easy to install with the supplied installation parts. I am very impressed with everything on the unit. This was a great improvement to my old truck. Previous improvements were replacing the factory speakers.

I'm sort of a high tech holdout, but wanted hands free phone in the car. The installation was straightforward, no hitches, and the Crutchfield kit and instructions really minimized headscratching time, which made the process pretty fast. I used heatshrink insulation tubing instead of tape (from Radioshack) over my solder joints on the harness, and don't anticipate any reliability problems with the installation. I didn't even have a bluetooth phone at the time, but bought an early generation bluetooth-capable Samsung flip phone on Ebay for $20, and the combo works perfectly. I mounted the microphone on top of the steering column just forward of the steering wheel, and I get favorable comments on sound quality when I talk. To be sure, people say it sounds a little echo-y and different from normal, but that it sounds better than most handsfree systems they've heard. That works for me. I use the USB in front for my Ipod, and even with stock speakers in the Sentra, the sound is just fine. I'm happy.

The unit regularly gets confused when connected to an iPhone via USB, requiring fiddling and usually power-cycling the head unit to get things back working. Also, it never crossed my mind that a head unit would actually lack a play/pause button. How wrong I was! I'll certainly look through the manual more carefully before purchasing a replacement.

I put this deck in a friend's '03 Focus so she could stream from her Android phone in the car. The Bluetooth streaming is such a huge improvement over the FM transmitter she was using, it's a must if you use your phone for music. Sound quality improved greatly even on factory speakers. Great value and an really easy install. It took about two hours to install the deck, hands free kit, and get everything set up. She loves it, lots of cool and usable features.

Stereo is great, has a lot of cool and useable features, the Bluetooth works great and the mic seems to sound good. Love the ability to plug a USB thumb drive into it and you can also stream music via the Bluetooth. The only thing I would improve is the navigating through the different settings. Overall this is a great stereo at a great price.

Pros: Bluetooth, front USB and Aux input and the ability to stream via the Bluetooth

Cons: navigating through the settings is difficult

BT works well enough. Some quirks, not perfect. Mic sound quality is not what I had hoped for. When BT initially connects to iPhone, there is no way to get music to start playing without starting from phone.

This unit is pure garbage! I first bought this unit 2 weeks ago and the sub pre amp never worked. i spent hours troubleshooting my setup including the sub, wiring, amp and exec. not to mention the time on the phone with crutchfield support. crutchfield determined that the unit was defective. Yesterday my replacement unit arrived and today i went to install it. SAME ISSUE! the replacement unit's sub out did not work. Just to make sure it was not my wiring and amp again I connected an older clarion unit and every worked perfect! So this proves 2 dead units. This experience has pretty much turned me off on JVC.

Pros: Unit looks great. other than the pre amps not working, everyting else is nice

Cons: pre amp issues. maybe a faulty batch? small remote and weird remote volume placement. i am now on my 3rd unit and my buddy is on his second.... not too good.

My numer one pet peave with car stereo cd players is a cd not ejecting and having to dig it out. This deck did it from day 1 i was so mad sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt, its almost a cross your fingers game everytime you push the eject button. Anyways on to the good the bluetooth is sweet never thought i would like it but actually do for its ease of use. Sound quality and adjustments are amazing and are nice to have, also very nice to have presets for the radio unlike the HD Radio style that is the same price

Pros: Adjustment of sound clarity and display options very nice

Cons: cd eject mechanism is acting like junk brand new out the box maybe it will get better/ works best with a disc that has alot of graphics, not smooth like a burned cd

Unbelievable what you get for the price! WOW!

I have been shopping from Crutchfield since the late 80s and as far as I'm concerned if you are buying car audio equipment and you want to install it yourself this is THE place to buy from. Period. I used to be an MECP certified installer (many many moons ago....) and as a former pro I recognized the VALUE of the accessories (exact fit harnesses, brackets etc) and VERY DETAILED VEHICLE SPECIFIC instruction sheets that save you time, $$$, and keep you from damaging your vehicle. In fact the more complex vehicles become the more you need good advice and the right install gear!!! Basically I was looking for a simple CD receiver to replace the broken factory unit in my old, but still alive '96 Land Rover. Now it's been a few years (10+) since I've really looked at the aftermarket and boy was I surprised how much they pack in these suckers! For my application I had to use the PAC audio matcher but as always all other acc's were included. The install was fairly straightforward, had one question about whether I need to power the PAC was answered quickly (2 min hold) and I had everything working in about 2 hours. Now the only compliant I have is that PAC box is huge and a real pain to stuff into the dash. I spent a lot of time arranging wiring and really digging trough my dash with a flashlight until I finally found a place to "stuff it". Well lets just say that I will NEVER remove the unit!

Pros: Great sound, Cool Illumination, 20x4 RMS, does more than expected, WORKS WITH ANDROID the swipe app is great!

Cons: The god awful PAC adapter! You would think in 2012 they could make that cheesy thing smaller (Not JVC's fault, just a problem for my '96 Disco) It's gonna take me some time to figure out all the things it can do.

Does it all. Sounds good, and looks great with the two tone color choices (buttons and display) Menu is easy once you get used to it. Volume knob has good push feel, but alittle light on the rotation click feel. Has adjustability on most every feature. Radio reception is decent, and manual to auto search is easy to switch. Bought mainly for

Pros: "Alot" of color choices. Pairs up to 5 Bluetooth devices. Many adjustments for upgrades such as SWs. External USB input on front and rear cable.. Long microphone cable for bluetooth phone system. Quick EQ button, instead of buried in menu. AWSC recognized.

Cons: Bluetooth with itouch is slow reconnecting when starting car. Have to push play button to restart. Bluetooth favors my cellphone over the itouch with music.. I can shut off car playing from itouch, but upon restart, it will start playing media on phone. Have to go into menu to switch, or turn off cellphone bluetooth. Only one band of 6 FM presets.

I wanted to replace my stock stereo system in my 2006 Toyota Solara with a more modern system that included Bluetooth for hands free calling and streaming audio. This system did the trick! Works great with my Android HTC Evo 4G! Streaming and call quality are awesome. I was using a cheap Bluetooth FM transmitter before, but there is no comparison with the sound quality and ease of use. I must admit, I was a bit reluctant to order from Crutchfield at first. I had always heard they were a bit more expensive. After researching on the web, I figured out that I could get this unit cheaper elsewhere (it was not much cheaper maybe $10) but they did not include installation stuff. In my case, the vehicle specific mounting kit was required and the wiring harness made it easier. Also, I did not know what the MasterSheet instructions were (and doubted that they were worth 9.99). I expected a generic "Toyota" stereo install document... I could not have been more wrong. Instructions (with detailed pictures of my exact car model) showing how to remove every trim part to access not only the head unit, but also all speakers. I am not a professional installer, but have installed a few stereos and speakers in the past with mixed results. Thanks to Crutchfield, this is the most professional looking job I have ever done. I still have a bit of wiring to hide and interior panels to button up, but it was awesome to give my wife a call today when riding down the road. Replacing speakers next!

I purchased this unit for the ability to stream music from my android phone via Bluetooth. It is a little difficult to pair the phone with the stereo, and sometimes it takes a long time to do it automatically. then if you shut the vehicle off you have to go through the process again.. However it sounds great and with the adjustable LED colors, it wow's my teenage kids.

I love my new JVC KDR730BT. I installed it very late in the evening, after dark , because of having to work late all week. (I connected the harness adapter to the headset harness while watching TV). I had no problems installing it, even in the dark with just the dome light on. When i powered it on, everything worked as it should. The double multi-color display is awesome! The Bluetooth connected to my android phone without a hitch. The radio station reception was clear and the sound was excellent. Steaming MP3s and Pandora from my phone was incredible...it sounded like the band was in my vehicle with me. I really liked having a wired mic. I mounted it up on the top of the windshield pillar where it meets the headliner so i could be heard easily. I made a call to my wife to let here know the stereo was installed and i was only still out in the driveway playing with all the new features of this cool new toy! We could hear each other just fine. The android App for JVC works well to let me control the stereo with gestures (while driving and not looking away from the road). The included wireless remote works perfectly as well. With the install supplies included for free by Crutchfield, I was able to install the stereo very easily without a single trip to the store for parts. The JVC KDR730BT is an awesome stereo! I Recommend It To Everyone!

Pros: See my review - it is full of Pros!

This unit has everything I was looking for. I have a Sony unit with bluetooth in my truck but the microphone in the faceplate picks up a lot of road noise. This JVC unit includes a wired remote microphone that i ran up next to the driver's visor. The sound is great, and the phone is very easy to operate. Music sounds great as well. I listen to all music sources, but find the front USB connection to be my favorite. I don't have a smart phone or ipod (yet), but plugging a thumb drive full of tunes into the front of the unit provides great sound quality. I also listen to AM and FM radio and the sound is superb. Don't like the colors of the front of your current stereo? This unit has the ability to customize the colors in multiple ways, but I was happy just being able to match the console colors of everything else on the dash. There are numerous features I have not even tried yet, but and extremely pleased with all I have mastered so far!

Pros: Bluetooth phone with remote mic sound quality ability to change colors

Cons: includes a very small remote. Don't really need it with steering wheel controls, but the remote is going to get lost, i know it.

This head unit fits everthing i needed. Streaming bluetooth with my android works awesome. I can use my built in music player or Pandora and the remote changes the songs on my phone. The only complaint is the function of the phone for talking. Jvc did not make it super easy to operate while driving. There should have been a voice activated button in my opinion. Also people say i sound like im far off in the distance while talking.

Pros: The multi color display matched Mini Coopers orange red lights so it looks like a factory unit

Cons: Use of hands free phone isnt easy, instal takes a while due to all of the extra wires (but worth the outcome).

This is an awesome head unit. I purchased it to replace a cheaper off brand unit and the sound quality is very good. I have used the BT-Phone and with the included remote mounted microphone the calls are crystal clear for each party. The custom color settings are great, and that fact that you can set it to a different color for night driving is seriously cool (changes when the headlights come on). I know that the description says that you can use a USB Hub for charging, but it works for function as well. I have the BT in one location, A flash drive in another, and use a third for my phone charger. This works great for me and is a great feature. Also the BT remote function of my EVO is great, I can change songs with my phone. The only thing to remember about this is that you are changing songs from the Flash/CD not the phone. If you are listening to music on the phone it is way easier to just use the phone. The install was very easy and looks great with the free install goodies from Crutchfield. With all of the fun stuff I did during the install (soldered & shrink wrapped all of the wires, mounted my USB Hub in a hidden yet accessible place, mounted the microphone, set up all of the colors, audio, ect.) install took about 2.5 hours. I think the head unit is a step in the right direction. I know that I will never use the CD player, but units that have multiple options such as a USB Hub, BT, or AUX input are the wave of the future.

Pros: USB Hub option, custom colors, BT, Android app to use phone as remote, Pandora controller, remote microphone, easy setup, easy install, did I mention the colors (mines pink and purple LOL). Great price and deal for a unit with these options and functionality.

Cons: Really wish it had HD already installed, but way worth the price with all of the other options.

USB Bluetooth Adapter: The JVC KD-R730BT comes supplied with a USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) which is pre-installed into the head unit's rear-panel USB input, making the KD-R730BT Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR certified. The KD-R730BT supports Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming.

Note: The USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) must remain plugged into the rear-panel USB port, or can also be installed in the head unit's front-panel USB port.

Bluetooth Technology: Bluetooth is a two-way wireless communication system allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, as well as wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth enabled portable music player using the JVC in-dash CD receiver. Bluetooth wireless technology operates on a 2.4GHZ frequency band within a range of approximately 10 meters (about 33 feet).

Bluetooth Profiles: The JVC KD-R730BT supports the following Bluetooth profiles:

    • HFP 1.5 (Hands-Free Profile): Hands-free communication with your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone in the vehicle (incoming/outgoing calls supported).
    • OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile): Phonebook transfer from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to the head unit.
    • PBAP 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile): Phonebook access from your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone to the head unit.
    • A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile): Music streaming from your Bluetooth enabled phone or audio player to the head unit.
    • AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile): Basic music playback control of your Bluetooth enabled phone or audio player from the head unit.

Pairing: Your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or digital audio player must be paired with KD-R730BT before hands-free & wireless operation. You can register up to five Bluetooth enabled devices with the JVC head unit. You can keep two phones connected at all times (only one can be used during a call).

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC head unit. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KD-R730BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket) featuring adjustable gain, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers (front or all).

External Microphone: The JVC KD-R730BT includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 12' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.485" (depth).

Note: This unit does not offer an integrated front-panel microphone.

Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker, the head unit's display will flash (Ring Color), and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the KD-R730BT's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call. You can adjust the head unit's ring color from the unit's 29 preset colors or 30,000 custom colors.

Dialing A Number: Using the KD-R730BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
    • Speed Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
    • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KD-R730BT. If you phonebook contains a lot of contact numbers, you fast search (+/-10, 100, or 1000) through the phonebook by using the unit's control dial. You can also do an A-Z search to scroll the downloaded phonebook. Up to 5,000 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long.
    • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).
    • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

Private/Hands-Free Mode: During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KD-R730BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KD-R730BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, and Fast Forward/Rewind. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Song and Album title. The KD-R730BT also supports audio streaming of music apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Last.fm, Rhapsody, & Slacker) , but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    Pandora App

Pandora Internet Radio Control: The JVC KD-R730BT CD receiver lets you playback and control the Pandora Internet Radio music service that is being streamed to your Apple iPhone, Android smartphone, or BlackBerry. While providing control over the Pandora music service, the KD-R730BT also displays Artist, Album, and Song information.
