Overview

Our take on the JVC KD-X200

If you're ready to ditch that bulky album full of scratched-up CDs and go digital, JVC's KD-X200 digital media receiver offers an impressive array of features for its price range, along with plenty of connections for all your devices.

Join the digital revolution

If you're ready to ditch that bulky album full of scratched-up CDs and go digital, JVC's KD-X200 digital media receiver offers an impressive array of features for its price range, along with plenty of connections for all your devices.

Ready for iPods and iPhones

Plug your iPod® into the front USB port and enjoy complete control, not to mention faster charging. The KD-X200's built-in iPod controls let you access your playlists intuitively. If you're a Pandora® Internet Radio fan, you can connect your iPhone® and access basic controls like "play," "pause," "thumbs-up," and "thumbs-down" on the onscreen display. For added convenience, the 2-way control feature lets you pick your music using the receiver or the phone itself.

Android friendly

If you have a compatible Android phone, you can use your phone's touchscreen to control the action using finger swipes and gestures — for example, make an upside-down "V" to change the source. With your Android phone safely attached to a mount, you can reach down and skip a track without taking your eyes off the road. If you want to plug in a USB thumb drive and hit the road, you can put together a custom road mix using JVC Playlist Creator software on your Windows® PC. The KD-X200 will play MP3, WMA, and WAV files.

Do more with your USB connection

The powerful 1A USB port lets you keep a smartphone charged while it's performing many battery-draining tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to your phone's internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Expand your system

If you're planning to build a complete car audio system sometime in the future, the KD-X200 includes rear 2.5-volt preamp outputs that you can switch over to subwoofer mode. You can also add Bluetooth® connectivity with an optional adapter. A front aux input lets you hook up other gear, like a Dock & Play satellite radio.

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Very nice looking, easy to install, great sound, love the little remote.

I can't help but give this product 5 stars across the board. Not only did I get more than what I paid for, it was easy to install and is easy to use.

Pros: Great upgrade from the basic stereo system I had. Easy to install and use.

Cons: Did not come with wire crimps, but I made use of my electrical tape, so no harm no foul.

    Cool, but kind of weird

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation of the JVC-X200 was fairly simple and setting up my own preferences was easy enough. The sound quality is great and I appreciate having the choice between auxiliary and USB inputs. There are a few weird features of the unit, one being when an iPod is first plugged in. The unit displays, CANNOT PLAY, and will not display any information, but does play music. Weird. Also, if the unit is in shuffle mode, the tag for the songs will not change and will only display the name of the first song shuffled. Other than that, great unit.

    Pros: price sound quality versatility

    Cons: weird features mostly plastic

I fell head over heels in love with this item as soon as I opened to package and saw it. I went straight to installing it which with the wiring diagram was very simple to do. It took no more than 30 minutes to finish and sounded amazing after some tweaking. I went to school the next day and friends crowded around my car to get a view of my new receiver and hear the difference of sound quality. I highly recommend this item and more over this website to all my friends.

Pros: The pros of JVC KD-X2000 is that it chargers your apple device will playing music you can control the volume and playback with the remote without taking your hands off the wheel or being in the vehicle.

Cons: The con to this product is once an apple device is plugged in you must press a button on the face in order to change iPod modes from ext(exterior mode),which only allows control of the volume and not playback, to head mode, which does allow control of volume and playback. It becomes tedious to have to remember to switch iPod modes.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the JVC KD X200 in a '99 Mercedes wagon I recently bought. Its original radio security code didn't unlock it and even if it did, I don't have any cassettes anymore and never carry CDs around. I wanted something like my son has in his Mitsubishi with an AUX port. I got a local quote of $217 to install a Pioneer head unit - providing the Bose amp and speakers were in good shape. This JVC cost me less than 75 bucks, including everything I needed to install it and detailed instructions. It took a little over an hour to install, looks like it belongs and sounds great through the Bose system. The USB port is a great bonus. I use it more than I do the AUX port. If you don't do the CD thing, this is fantastic stereo.

Pros: Ease of installation, great sound, priced right for my budget

Cons: Controls are an adjustment but not that hard to figure out.

Very good unit for the price. There are many ways to adjust the sound and the ability to hook up your phone or iPod eliminates the need for a cd player. The stereo provides plenty of power and makes your speakers loud and sound great.

Pros: Easy to install, multiple sound adjustments, iPod compatible

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this head unit to replace the stock radio in a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 Standard Cab. I'm no audiophile by any means, but in short, the factory head sounded like crap and this one sounds amazing (comparatively speaking). Installation was a breeze, as is usual with Crutchfield products. I mainly use the AUX input and listen to my iPods. I haven't really gotten into the weeds of this thing yet, but so far so good. For the price, you can't beat it.

Pros: Low price, ease of installation, great quality sound.

Cons: No CD player....but who still listens to CD's???

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I think this media play is great. At first I was continuously docking my iphone, which works perfectly. But because I was tired of dealing with the lightning cable I bought a low profile usb drive. It's a bummer that these sort of stereos don't play AAC files. It took several nights to convert a majority of my music to mp3 but now that its done all my music lives in my truck. I like that JVC organizes the folder list in alphabetical order, it makes it very convenient for searching. Most stock stereos with a usb reader will organize folders off a usb in the order they were written, which just doesn't make any sense. In any case, this is an excellent stereo for what it cost.

Pros: I like that it reads the usb stick in alphabetical order. The sound is excellent. Because it's small and light weight my console seems more tight and sturdy not having to support the weight of a cd deck.

Cons: I drive several different types of cars for work and 2 other personal cars. I've always found navigating all the different car stereo menus simple and intuitive. However, this stereo takes some getting used to. Some of the menu navigation orders don't make sense, so there's a learning curve. All the features are there tho.

Pros: Easy to ibstall . good sound

The harnesses to connect the radio do not work or are the wrong kind. I spent over an hour with a Crutchfield tech trying to figure out why it would not work.

I like the additional EQ controls and subwoofer output. I did order this from Crutchfield, and the only issue i came across was that the screws required to screw this onto the mounting adapter were not included.

The USB port doesn't work with Android devices with versions past Gingerbread. If you have a new Android device or are planning on upgrading, go with a Bluetooth enabled receiver, all of the features will work great and it will save you from a headache. When you plug in your device it searches for a USB Mass Storage Device. This means you won't be able to play Pandora or stream music from Youtube or google Play from your older Android. This is old technology that works great with flash drives, but not smartphones.

Pros: Works great with iPhone Charges Androids

Cons: Does not play music from newer android devices, JVC app is garbage

This stereo fit the bill perfectly! Including soldering every wire separately, the install took less then 1.5 hours, the soldering took 45 mins alone to tape off every joint all perfectionist like to the factory wire harness kit I also got from Crutchfield. After soldering, the whole in car install experience was just over 1/2 hour (very much "plug and play" like) and off I went with new stereo perfectly fitted! The features of the stereo was what was described and more! Melds with my iPhone IOS7 perfectly just as I wished.

Pros: Great instructions, easy install, all the features I expected, awesome deal too!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this to replace a failing factory unit and CD changer in a 2001 Corolla S. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. The JVC KD-X200 looks and feels well made. The basic black with red illuminated buttons looks like it was made for my car's interior. The display is easily visible in daylight and more than adequate for my needs. I'm still figuring out the controls, but that is to be expected. The sound is phenomenal compared to the factory unit. I wasn't expecting too much given the price, but even with the factory speakers, it's like I've gotten a whole new sound system. Depending on where your stereo will be located, you might want to consider a low-profile USB drive. I am using a SanDisk Fit which protrudes from the faceplate the same distance as the volume knob. I neither need nor desire Bluetooth connectivity, so this model is perfect for me. I think it can be added later though, so don't let that deter you. The installation was a non-issue thanks to the Crutchfield parts and instructions. There's not much else to say. I highly recommend the JVC KD-X200 to anyone looking for a great sounding, great looking, reasonably priced stereo.

Pros: Great sound, looks, price etc. No more CDs! A USB drive means I have my entire music collection in the vehicle.

Cons: None that I can see.

I wasn't expecting much when I ordered this unit but I am thoroughly impressed. The faceplate feels sturdy and pressing the buttons has a solid click and feel to them. The equalizer allowed me to personalize the sound to my liking and the display works a lot better in sunlight than my last deck. I like that its low key and doesn't have flashy lighting. It looks very simple and works amazingly. There is a slight learning curve when controlling the iPod through the deck but that didn't last long. Overall I am very happy to have bought this deck.

Pros: easy to use, easy to install, great sound output

    Cons: none

I like the all black, non flashy look. Owning a convertible car and worrying about thieves who cut the top first and then find out my cheap radio is not worth their time of stealing. It will be too late for the damaged top that will cost a lot more to replace than the radio. The radio meets all my requrement for the money. I may buy another one for another car.

Pros: Good enough for me for the money. Small enough to fit tight space.

Looking forward to another 25 years and will start with one of these for my daughter's first car. Don

Great product!!! Convinient, good price, and the sound is incredible! I bought for my boyfriend as a birthday present, and he said it was the best present he has ever got! It makes his 6-hour drive to Michigan a lot better. He can listen to whatever he wants (pandora, 8tracks or his own music), and charge his phone at the same time! It's an awesome price for what it is too... :)

Pros: You can listen to whatever you want (pandora, 8tracks, your own music - in your iphone or flash drive), you can charge your phone at the same time, and the sound is incredible!

    Cons: Nothing!!

These media players are great! Who uses CD's anymore? Very simple install and it has great options. The USB port and auxi input are all that is needed these days AND I LOVE IT. So simple. I also use a bluetooth adapter and it works perfectly and sounds great. I'm so happy I went with this unit. How can you beat the price! I got mine for $49 using V.me card. Great deal!

Pros: Easy install. Streamlined and simple use!

Cons: The LCD display reminds me of the 80's. Its pretty basic to be honest, but I can live with it.

Got this in today and took an hour to install while showing my Wife how to do it too. Came with the install kit for my Van. Used to bigger units due to cd motors and such so it just seemed small as a head unit. Everything went in fine. Tried out a thumb drive and it sounded so much better than the old factory radio. Even the radio function worked and sounded better. I have a droid based phone so that is a little sketchy but will try out the app and see if it connects better. It charges the phone fine though...lol. Other than that one thing... this is a great value so far just to replace the factory unit.

Ok, I realize that this is way down at the bottom of the stereo price list but it's fantastic. You always hear that you get what you pay for, in this case that is not true. What you get is a nicely laid out stereo that includes all the basic features plus a decent equalizer. No gaudy chrome etc, it looks great in my e36 M3! Ipod/iphone control, pandora...no problem! Who has CD's anymore? They are going away like cassettes and 8 tracks before them.

Pros: Simple efficient layout. Connection for amp/sub. Sounds great!

Cons: Can't change display colors. Why can't they put the USB port on the back so you can hide the wire??

    Consider KD-X200 over KD-X250BT

    VictorC from Colorado on 8/11/2013

I recently installed the JVC KD-X200 in my pickup truck. The sister model KD-X250BT is more popular, but I decided for this less expensive model as the Bluetooth comm is a wasted feature for me. I wanted to point out the key difference, and that is the red lights on the 200, as opposed to blue on the 250. The radio I replaced was a blue display, and I discovered that it hurts my night vision when driving. The red color buttons on the KD-X200 are easier on my eyes, even if they're less pretty. This radio does auto-dim with the orange/white harness wire connected to the factory headlight wire common to most vehicles, something not all radios have. Both of these radios are easy to navigate folders (up/down function), as are next/prev tracks. I use a Sandisk Cruzer Fit pen drive, which sticks out only a quarter-inch from the front panel when inserted - and isn't a protrusion easily broken when moving one's hand in front of the dashboard. I use a 16GB capacity drive loaded with WMA format music imported from Windows Media Player. The unit has no problems with this capacity, which is sheer overkill when considering navigating 200 albums encoded at 192 Kb/S. I like this radio. The white display isn't fancy, but it is easy to read. The basic two-speaker setup in my pickup truck is the simplest kind of installation there is, so I can't comment on the preamp outputs and so forth.

Pros: Easy navigation Doesn't hurt night vision reliable (so far!)

Cons: Wish it accepted a SD card flush with the front panel, which it doesn't

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation instructions were spot on. The radio is fine, the control menus took a little to get used to. All of the FM presets are in one group, so if you have a preset 7 or higher, then you have to scroll through the channels starting at 1 and working your way up. An "FM2" with its 6 presets would be a little easier. On the optional items, the wiring harness is a good idea. I had to go to another retailer after the fact and paid a little more for one. There were complaints that the in dash receiver kit for my 2000 Honda had a very tiny pocket. I didn't get it and bolted the radio in place. I removed the pocket from the stock radio and set it back in the opening under the JVC and it looks fine. It isn't fastened in place, but still holds things and looks fine.

Pros: easy install with wiring harness

Cons: radio presets beyond 6 are awkward to get to

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the factory radio off a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. No premium sound package. Installation was super easy and took less than 30 min. The hardest part was putting together all the color coded wires. For the price, this unit is a steel. Great functionality with basic operation. I will mainly be using my iPhone through the USB connection. Sound quality improved slightly through stock speakers. Before I put this unit in, I always felt the speakers sounded flat. Now they're thumping along with the back window. There are plenty of audio settings to get the sound you like. I prefer a crisp, warm sound. With an adjustment of the EQ and Audio Level, I was pretty close to getting what I want. Probably can use some more tweaking. Even with the slight improvements, I still plan on replacing the speakers at a later date. A couple of tips... As you plug in your iPhone, make sure your not fiddling with the screen or the unit will be stuck on READING. You will have to reset the unit or detach/attach faceplate. Don't start swiping the screen until the music starts playing. Pandora integration is pretty cool. When listening to Pandora, everything is controlled from the unit, not the phone. If listening from your music library, you can use unit and phone for controls. Overall, very satisfied with this purchase. Tech hotline is great. Already called them twice about installation, and they were very helpful.

Pros: Price. Pandora. No CD slot! Charges phone while listening to music. Detachable face.

Cons: Red illumination can't be changed. Music text sometimes doesn't match to song. But it shouldn't matter when driving. There's a slight lag time from the time you press play to when the song actually starts. No biggie.

All things considered, this is a great buy. It looks good, performs well, and was an easy install. I needed something durable for my 1972 Toyota Landcruiser, and because of prolonged exposure to dust and vibration, didn't want to install a unit with a CD player. With its easy access USB connector on the front, bright display, good power output, and remarkably lightweight design, the JVC KD-X200 is near perfect. As a couple other reviews mention, a lot of the advanced controls are hidden through a combination of controls and require having the manual handy. This seems to be a common "feature" of many new stereos and providing more functionality in the same amount of space, so I'm OK with it. I would buy this again.

Just installed it and it works like a dream compared to my old '07 Focus stereo. Definitely love having the AUX input. If you're sick of hauling CDs around with you and have an MP3 player, this is definitely worth it.

Pros: Automatically dims when you turn on your headlights, don't have to lug around CDs anymore, and has a really modern tuner car look to it.

Cons: Installation manual was a bit confusing, and couldn't figure out how to lock the unit into the cradle. Not sure if there were supposed to be screws that came with it or not.

Seth B from Long Island, NY on 6/13/2013

I bought this unit to replace the terrible CD player in my 2006 Crossfire. I've never been good when it comes to building, repairing, or installing anything, but Crutchfield provides all the tools you need, making the installation of this unit truly idiot-proof. After I connected the wires (using Posi-Products Car Stereo Connectors), I simply slid the unit into my dash and I was done. As for the unit itself, the sound is vastly superior to my car's stock radio. It's louder, the frequency response is flatter, and there is SO much more bass. iPod connectivity is simple. The stereo recognizes the iPod music starts playing withing seconds. You can navigate the iPod's library using the stereo's controls, but it's a little clumsy. Luckily you can still use the iPod itself to change songs, but you must press the "iPod" button until it's on the correct setting (it took me a while to figure this out). Although the unit works well, there is a small learning curve. The stereo has a lot of functions but you can only get to them by navigating various hidden menus. I strongly suggest reading the manual thoroughly, as the unit has several hidden features. Simple controls are easy and work well though. One thing that was disappointing was the build quality of the radio. The buttons feel very cheap and plastic-y. They work well and should hold up under normal use, but it's clear that you're getting what you paid for. All in all I love this receiver and it should work for anyone on a budget

Pros: Low Price iPod support works great Great sound Simple Install Simple but effective styling

Cons: Cheap plastic buttons Slight learning curve for interface/controls

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am happy with the unit overall. Sounds good, installation was no big deal, etc Well worth the price. Have a problem with poor reception and was big time disappointing but I have found out it is an antenna issue. not the receiver. So I will jump straight the two things I don't like. The white display is impossible to read in sunlight. I put mine in a Suburban and you have to move it to the center of the dash because of the limited space behind the factory unit. Also the Suburban is a rolling greenhouse so it's rare it's not in the sun and you simply can not read the display most times without leaning over toward it. If I known I would have bought something else. 2nd issue is it doesn't read the SD card on my Android phone all the time. Usually what happens is I hook it up and all is well. Turn off the switch, turn it back on and it will only read the phone and not the card. So it plays GPS directions from the cache file, ring tones I created and nothing I have found will make it read the card once it does that without putting in another USB device or shutting off the car (sometimes) and that is not practical driving. I just copied the music onto some 'geek sticks' and those work fine. Buddy of mine plugged in his IPhone and I was totally impressed. Even Spotify would play. Can't do that with the Android system.

Installed in my wife's KIA Sedona. Sound quality is excellent, was very impressed. Like the red display. Will be using it on those long trips.

Pros: Value. Easy setup. Great Sound.

Cons: Adapter bracket made install a little tricky, but we managed. Not a big deal.

    Works great!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck was easy to put in and easy to operate. The sound is great. I especially liked that the unit is smaller and lighter than a comparable unit with a CD player in it. We never use CDs anymore anyway. Color of the display works well with our Dodge neon. I might buy another one to put in our Volkswagen Jetta.

Pros: Easy to install. Smaller and lighter and then a deck with a CD player. Easy to operate. Great sound quality.

Cons: None that I can think of.

I have been receiving Crutchfield magazines since I was a teenager, and as soon as my factory stereo went out I knew exactly where to turn. Placing the order was easy and installation was even easier with step by step instructions. I got a great deal on this media player and it works exactly how I expected it to.

    Pros: Small and easy install

    Cons:

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

absolutely satisfied with my JVC KD-200 radio, much more than was needed but could not go wrong for the price. Easy installation. I had one or two questions about the wiring, but customer service answered them all in no time. Sound quality brillant, and in an open sports car you need a quality system to be able to enjoy the sounds, this system deliveres it all. Also like the removable radio front, can be stored in locked trunk, and no worries of theft.

Pros: Easy installation. Fits perfectly in a 78 MGB . Love the front USB and AUX. ports Price was right

Cons: some what difficult for a 63 YO to program, needed my daughter to figure all the nuances.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I hadn't put in a new car stereo in many years but this one I was able to put in under 10 minutes. I had ordered a MP3 cable to hook up my mp3 player which worked but soon figured out the USB port works excellent with a thumbdrive. I loaded all my music on to a 16 gb drive stuck it in and it instantly started playing. Easy to browse the titles and it shows the song/band info of the track. Now I have all 800 songs I had through Rapsody/Amazon at my finger tips and I am able to just leave it in all the time. They do say to take it out on hot days however.

Pros: Excellent, many features to control. Does everything I hoped for any many I didn't.

Cons: Built in amp seems a tad weak/distorted but for a factory replacement and $60 to be expected. Better features/control/sound than most factory decks

Easy to install, although I did buy a harness for it. States Pandora ready but actually plays all music apps, I played TuneIn, Last FM among others. One reviewer says doesn't work with iPhone 5 - It worked great with mine, and charges it at the same time.

Pros: Plays all music apps, easy to install

    Cons:

I installed this unit in my 2002 Chevy cavalier and It is great. It is simple to use, the sound quality is excellent. It has a built in equalizer which is nice and 3 levels of loudness. No CD player which is fine because I don't have any CDs. You can use the iPod cord that came with your iPod so there are no extra cables to buy.

Pros: sound quality, easy to install, EQ, pandora, Aux input.

    Cons: none

This head unit is exactly what I was expecting. What I didn't anticipate is how much more you can do with Bluetooth. I bought this model because I thought I didn't need BT.

Pros: AUX input, No CD player (who uses CDs these days?), Pandora connectivity, Price

Cons: Not Bluetooth (it's available in a different model or as an add on module)

The unit's front-panel auxiliary input can be turned On or Off.

    iPod/Android/BlackBerry Integration

iPod/iPhone Direct: The JVC KD-X200's front-panel USB port can acts as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the dock-to-USB or Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. Using either cable allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the JVC in-dash head unit. The head unit supports audio playback from music stored on your iPod/iPhone or music apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Rhapsody, & Slacker) streamed to your iPhone (not all music apps will be compatible).

    • DAC Bypass: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music or music apps to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 80dB. The JVC head unit supports audio playback of music, podcasts, audiobooks, and music apps stored on your iPod or iPhone.
    • Music Control: You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the JVC head unit's front-panel controls, from its clickwheel/touchscreen, or via a streamed app from your iPhone.
      • Head Unit Mode: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search your iPod/iPhone's stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, and Composer. Music content for each category is listed alphabetically. The KD-X200 also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone. Your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen remains accessible in this mode. You can also control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from select music apps streamed to your iPhone.
      • iPod Mode: You can choose to navigate your iPod or iPhone's stored music from its clickwheel or touchscreen, like you are accustomed to during normal usage. Basic playback control (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) can still be done through head unit for stored music and music apps.
      • External (App) Mode: External Mode allows you to solely navigate your connected iPod/iPhone device through its clickwheel or touchscreen. Playback of your iPod/iPhone's stored music and streamed music apps is supported. The head unit's iPod/iPhone controls will be locked.
    • iPod Display: The KD-X200 will display your Apple device's stored music and streamed music app song/artist information, when in Head Unit and iPod mode (not in External mode), or listening to Pandora Internet Radio. The head unit can display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song/Artist title, and Station identification.
    • iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

JVC Music Control (for Android): By connecting the JVC digital media receiver via USB to an Android smartphone (OS 2.2+) that has the free JVC Music Control app installed, it allows you to list and search all of the songs stored inside the smartphone from the receiver by artist name or album name. The JVC Smart Music Control app also analyzes all of your songs that are in your Android smartphone, and creates a playlist according to your mood. Once the application has completed the analysis of the songs, simply move the on-screen "mood ball" to your current mood, and this application will generate a list of songs that most fits your mood. Your compatible Android smartphone must be recognized as a USB mass storage class device; not compatible with MTP protocol.

Drive Change Mode (for BlackBerry): The receiver's USB port also supports playback from BlackBerry smartphones (via USB mass storage mode). JVC's Drive Change Mode lets you connect your BlackBerry smartphone (that uses an external memory card) directly to the head unit, via USB. Drive Change Mode will let you switch between your BlackBerry smartphone's internal and external memory (such as microSD Card), so you can listen to music stored on either memory. You'll continue to be able control basic playback functions; such as folder/file search, play/pause, and skip next/previous; regardless of memory type.

    AM/FM + Pandora Radio

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The JVC KD-X200 features a built-in RDS AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations. You can store a total of 18 FM stations presets and 6 AM station presets (manually or automatically). The head unit's Radio Timer features lets you tune into a preset station at a specific time regardless of the head unit's current source (you can activate the Radio Timer once, daily, or turn it completely off). If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation. You can also switch the tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

Note: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

Pandora Internet Radio: Pandora is the leading Internet Radio music service in the United States, giving people music they love anytime, anywhere, through personalized radio stations. The JVC KD-X200 provides complete access to your Pandora account using your iPhone, via the head unit's front-panel USB port. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS5 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora App from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. In addition, you will need an active Pandora music service account. The JVC KD-X200 will display Artist, Album, & Song information provided by the Pandora app on your iPhone. The JVC KD-X200 will also provide control over the Pandora music service streamed to your USB-connected iPhone.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Create New Station: New stations can be created based on the current songs or artists playing on Pandora.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song or artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or smartphone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-X200 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-X200 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-X200 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-X200 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-X200 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

2.5V/2CH Preamp Output: The KD-X200 is equipped with two 2.5V preamp outputs (Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading.

Subwoofer Controls: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter at 55Hz, 85Hz, or 120Hz. You can adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between -8 and +8 (separate from the main volume level).

Pro EQ: The KD-X200 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, & User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Pro EQ
    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed
Note: You can store Pro EQ bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (Tuner, Aux, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, and Pandora).

Bass Boost: The unit's Bass Boost enhances low bass frequencies.

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set this feature to High, Low, or Off.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The JVC KD-X200 features a detachable face to deter theft (no face case is provided). An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

LCD: The head unit features a 11-segment, one-line LCD with adjustable brightness and dimmer settings.

Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display/button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

Mounting Angle: For proper operation, you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

    Remote/Bluetooth Control

Wireless Remote Control: The KD-X200 comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK52). The remote contains Attenuator, Sound, Source, Tracking, and Volume functions. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V Lithium-cell battery (included).

Optional Bluetooth: The JVC KS-BTA100 Bluetooth Adapter (105KSTBA10, sold separately) provides Bluetooth hands-free communication and digital audio streaming functions for the JVC KD-X200. The JVC KS-BTA100 gives you hands-free communication from your compatible Bluetooth mobile phone and wireless streaming audio from a Bluetooth enabled digital audio player, when connected to the JVC in-dash head unit. The JVC Bluetooth Adapter includes a super-sensitive microphone, an Answer/End button, and playback controls. The JVC KD-X200 can be set to automatically mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can listen to your telephone call using your car speakers.

Note: Not all Bluetooth devices will be compatible. Visit the JVC Mobile Entertainment Bluetooth Support Page for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Cornell... There are probably two hot (12volt) leads... check your wiring instructions. One lead goes your battery, and one goes to your ignition switch. This is a good radio. Ken Z Chippewa Lake, Ohio [ KENNETH T  Jan 21, 2014 ]

I would guess there should be a connection to direct (not switched) battery power. Check your wiring. [ Guest  Jan 21, 2014 ]
