Features

Compressed File Playback: The KW-XG700 can play MP3, WMA, and AAC (iTunes only, but not Apple lossless) files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, or Romeo. MP3 files with bit rates from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with bit rates from 32-192 kbps, and AAC files with bit rates from 16-320 kbps are supported. Each disc can have a maximum of 512 files in 200 folders.

Digital to Analog Converter: For high quality audio performance JVC uses a 24-bit audio DAC.

Front Panel Auxiliary Input: A front panel stereo mini-jack is provided to allow easy connection of a portable audio source. Just connect your portable cassette, MD, or MP3 player and listen through your car system. The volume of the front panel auxiliary input can be adjusted so the level is consistent as you change from one input to another.

Spectrum Analyzer Screen: The display background can be changed among five meter styles and two screen savers. You can also turn the spectrum analyzer off so only the alphanumeric characters and icons appear.

3-Band Equalizer: Along with a user adjustable preset, there are five preset EQ curves; Rock, Classic, Pops, Hip Hop, and, Jazz. The user preset can be adjusted to your preference and stored in memory. The three EQ bands are centered at 60 Hz, 1 kHz, and 10 kHz. The level at each frequency can be adjusted from -12dB to +12dB in 2dB increments.

CD Text: Song and album titles are displayed when playing CD Text encoded discs on the built-in CD player and a connected CD changer that supports CD Text. MP3, WMA, and AAC tags are also displayed.

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KW-XG700 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to low, the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to high, and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Preamp Outputs: In addition to the 2.5 volt front and rear stereo preamp outputs, this unit has 2.5 volt line level Subwoofer outputs. The subwoofer output has independent level control, adjustable from 0 to +8.

Crossover: The KW-XG700 has an internal low-pass subwoofer crossover; choose 95, 140, or 185 Hz.

Optional Input Adapter: An optional JVC Line Input Adapter (item number 105KSU57 or 257KSU58) may be used to provide an additional auxiliary audio input on this unit. This feature allows you to connect a portable audio player, such as a portable MP3 player, to this unit as an additional audio source. The adapter connects to the CD changer input on this unit. When the adapter is connected to this unit, a CD changer cannot be connected.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The KW-XG700 has a steering remote control jack compatible with the optional SWI-JACK interface (item number 127SWIJACK), you can retain the use of your steering wheel and/or rear seat radio controls when replacing the factory head unit in select vehicles. The SWI-JACK is compatible with over 95% of the vehicles made from 1986 to the present. Compatible vehicles include many Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hummer, Infiniti, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volkswagen vehicles and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Please consult "Outfit My Car" to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Station Names: You can assign names to 30 radio station frequencies, AM or FM. Each name can be up to 8 characters.

Dimmer: When 12 volts is applied to the illumination lead and the dimmer is set to Auto, the display dims. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times) or On (display is always dimmed).

External Device Controls

USB Input: The front panel USB port allows you to play USB mass storage devices loaded with MP3, WMA, WAV, and AAC files. For the unit to recognize the USB medium, it must be specified as a mass storage device formatted using FAT 12, FAT 16, or FAT 32. A sliding door covers the USB input when it's not in use.

iPod Interface: The optional KS-PD100 adapter (item number 257KSPD100) allows an iPod digital music player with a dock connector to be connected and controlled by the KW-XG700. You'll be able to scroll through all your playlists, albums, artists, genres, and composers directly from the head unit. Song titles and other file information show up right on the head unit display. The iPod is also charged while it is connected to the KW-XG700 via the optional KS-PD100. The JVC KW-XG700 is "Made for iPod" compatible when connected to the KS-PD100 iPod adapter and supports the following iPod model features (as of Dec. 2009):

The adapter is made for audio file playback only, so it will not pass video signals from video capable iPods. When this interface is connected to the JVC receiver, you cannot connect a CD changer. Apple firmware updates may change functionality results

Satellite Radio: This unit supports both XM and Sirius Satellite Radio when used with an optional satellite radio tuner and adapter, sold separately. Changer Controls: This unit is equipped with JVC's J-Link CD changer control system.

Great Buy

Written By Brian, Centennial, CO on Thursday, May 13, 2010

I bought this unit to replace the factory system in my moms 04 Envoy. This unit looks right at home in the dash and sounds great through the factory speakers. The iPod feature works good, but could have better search options, but equally sounds great. The crutchfield install kit and tech support were great! I reccomend this unit if your on a budget, but still want quality.

Not Bad at all!

Written By chad, Knoxville, TN on Wednesday, March 17, 2010

I am very happy with my purchase of a JVC KW-XG700 for my 2006 Pontiac Grand
Prix GT.
The whole package fit perfectly. Only one hang up on my installation was the
very vague instructions for the steering wheel button control module. (sold
separately). I was under the impression that all instructions would be printed
for me by Crutchfield detailing all steps for my automobile. The only detailed
instructions for my automobile was just the factory HU removal. No sweat, I have
yet to figure out that steering control instructions but I can tell you that
this JVC stereo is very high quality. You must read the manual to figure most
things out but once you do it all makes sense. The sound quality is superior!
The look is very nice! The clock (time) digits are kinda too small for my liking
but the display as a whole is quite nice even in the day light. This HU does not
have a lot of fancy animations. The demo mode looks cool but would be
distracting if all that was happening on the screen all the time anyway. I use
the aux in for my Motorola Droid to play most of my music. I kinda wish it didnt
say "AUX INPUT" all of the time. Those letters are larger and I would like to
see the clock digits in that place instead.

All in all, I rate this product 5 out of 5. Sound is amazingly good and you have
plenty of control for Bass/Mid/Treble as well as EQ presets. I figure once I
figure out my steering control wiring I will be totally pleased with the full
purchase.

Perfect for 2006 Nissan Frontier

Written By Tim, Birmingham, AL on Tuesday, February 09, 2010

I have been very pleased with this receiver. And although it did make my factory
speakers sound better, I purchased Alpine SPG-69C2 speakers, which sound twice as
good as my old speakers. I scoured Crutchfield's reviews and felt this was the unit to
get, and I think I made the right choice. The negatives I saw were:

1) The FM reception is not great, which is true, but I don't listen to the radio much.

2) The iPod controls were clumsy. I chose to plug the iPod in through the front mini jack
and control the iPod from the iPod controls. This works and sounds GREAT! I would
recommend using the iPod in this way.

3) The USB playback would randomly lose its place. I wasn't concerned about this
because I am not accustomed to listening through a USB drive. HOWEVER, what I
discovered was that if it did work right, I would probably be listening with a memory stick
rather than my iPod.

Aside from the clunkiness of scrolling through the recordings or
playlists, it is a pain that at random it will lose its place, and it's so difficult to try to get
back to the song, album, or playlist that had been playing. Despite those negatives, I still
give the JVC KW XG700 5 stars because the sound is great for iPod, CD's and USB.
And it looks great in my 2006 Nissan Frontier. I've installed many stereos, and this one
was a piece of cake.

good receiver

Written By Carl, Chapel Hill, NC on Saturday, January 23, 2010

Overall I'm happy with this receiver.

Pros:
- Display easily readable day or night, no probs with glare, at least on my car (Mazda Protege).
- Good features, easy to use
-I'm using the Bluetooth phone adapter, it works well

Cons:
- Instruction manual hard to understand
- USB keeps playing when you turn off ignition; that is really a bug. If you listen to audiobooks or podcasts on USB make sure to turn the receiver off or switch inputs when you leave.
- Doesn't support RDS
- Reception on radio is OK but not great

Flash Drive Problem.

Written By rarbit, Richmond, va on Saturday, October 31, 2009

I purchase a couple of these radios and I have found that some brands of flash drives do not work in these radios. When I insert them, all that happens is that "Check" blinks in the display. I have found that a couple of drives that I purchased work OK, but they no longer carry that brand. I wonder if someone can tell me what brand they find works, so I might pick it up locally.

I notice that Ross who posted earlier, had the same problem.

Great Stereo

Written By NICK, FL on Tuesday, October 20, 2009

I installed this radio in my 2004 Grand Prix GT. It looks and sounds great. I still have the
stock speakers but added the infinity bass link. It's a great looking radio, matches my
dash perfectly. I love the ability to use steering wheel controls, and subwoofer controls.
The USB is handy, I connected my Blackberry with the sat music. Highly recommend
this radio.

Great head unit

Written By David, Big Bear City, Ca on Friday, October 02, 2009

Bought this unit to replace the stone age non MP3 playing unit in my 05 GMC Sierra with Bose system. Despite having to integrate Onstar, XM, and steering wheel controls, it all worked out after only a few calls to Crutchfield's techs. They were great and really knew the various parts required like they were doing the install. Anyway, this unit blows the stocker away. This unit looks great and the controls are easy to use. I particularly like the USB in the front. Don't need the IPOD anymore! The speakers that came with the truck are much better with this headunit. I'm not much of an audiophile, but the improvement in sound was surprising.
