Great for iPod®, plus control Pandora®
Once you plug your iPod or iPhone® into the convenient front-panel USB input, you can use the KW-R500's oversized knob and buttons to navigate your music library. And with your iPhone connected, you can play your Pandora® Internet Radio stations from your dash, and even skip and rate songs like you do online. Plus JVC puts one auxiliary input on the front panel and another on the rear, so you're all set for adding more audio sources.

Higher-power USB connection
JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to its internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Looks and sounds great in my gmc sierra with bose system especially for good price

This is not the one I originally intended on getting, I wanted the bluetooth enabled model, but this head unit exceeded all of my expectations. The installation equipment that came with it fit perfectly, and although I installed it myself, it looks professional.

Pros: Ease of install, button size

Cons: A bit confusing to set up, at first.

The sound blew me away from the start. I added new JVS speakers and the sound quality was even better. So many cool features in this radio. 3 Color displays , CD info read out, 4 sound setting on equerlizer and more on Pro-Eq. Mounted with little problems. USB port for I-pod or smart phone or flash drive. RCA connections on back for sub woffer or a per amp The EO radio was $489 and a rebuilt was $365 I got the radio ,front and rear JVC speakers for just under $300. To me that's a good deal.

    Pros: Great sound and features

Cons: FM reception is not as good as my OE radio but the CD sound makes up for that. Took a little time to understand the booklet that came with it for set up..

I had already replaced the OE speakers with the Alpine 500 and 600 speakers and i purchased this to replace the OE Toyota CD unit in my 2000 Toyota 4Runner Limited. Since the JVC is the same size as the OE HU the install was really easy. The HU doenst have window shaking I power but it really does well. I also like the connectivity possibilities of this economic unit as well. My only gripe is the complexity and length of the menu function. But once i began to tinker with various setting and combinations of settings the sound was good but lacked "fullness" and screamed for more bottom end. So, recently picked up Kenwood SW 11 powered subwoofer. At first the JVC HUs sub/rear Line Out (L/O) jacks would only recognize the subwoofer as a rear speaker. As a rear speaker i couldn't use the High or Low filters either . The next day i called JVC customer service to see what my options were. They informed me that this was a common problem with the KW-R 500 and that there was a firmware update that would correct the problem. They sent me a CD-R with the firmware upgrade which i was able to install on the first try. Now everything works as it should and im quite happy.

Pros: Price, sound quality, connectivity options.

Cons: the complexity and length of the of menus. Lack of high/low filters and subwoofer use without the firmware update.

It's "OK"; Audio Quality isn't all that.

This box doesn't allow me to give my full review, so I'll shorten it. Easy install, good features, not a "real" parametric EQ (frequency selections are limited and Q adjustable on only bass and mids). RCA outputs for me were relatively weak. Frequency response seems limited in the low end. If you run a sub from the Hi-level input using the speaker/amp section of this unit, you'll lose some super lows. JVC cuts the lower response at about 40Hz (maybe due to heat or wiring requirements). Internal amp is cold, lifeless, and sterile, lacking openness and warmth found in higher-quality systems. I'm NOT impressed. Having to hold down a button or two for 2 seconds to access many settings is unfortunate. Bad idea. I detest manufacturers who think this was a great idea. It's not. I like the design/layout of this unit. Color options and dimmer options are nice, although the Source button can still be a bit bright at the dimmest settings while night-driving. Plenty of power for coaxials and some other speakers. Good reception for radio. I like the read-ahead technology for the CD-Player, USB, iPhone etc. It helps limit the delay for pushing and playback. Although I do wish for an easier way to adjust volume and pause play while deep in the menus. Give the unit an additional $50 in cost to improve the Audio quality and menu access, and we'll win. This was a partial upgrade AND downgrade from the factory system.

Pros: Easy install, good features, looks nice. Plays USB, iPhone, MP3 discs etc.

Cons: Lifeless Audio quality. Very Limited EQ settings.

The cd player had stopped working in my 2005 Silverado several years ago and I also had a door speaker that was not working. After reading the reviews, I bought this JVC head unit to replace it and installed a pair of Kicker speakers in the doors. The sound quality is amazing! I installed this myself and had no problems. I was pleased in knowing that the Crutchfield team was available if needed though. They sent everything I needed for a good installation. The unit almost looks like it came from the factory which was what I was hoping for. I matched up the display color of the radio with the guages. I now listen to most of my music on a 16gb flash drive which is convenient for long commutes. I wish now that I had replaced the factory unit years ago. The Crutchfield web site is fantastic and took the hassle out of finding the right replacement and needed accessories.

Pros: The sound quality is great and the unit display matches the guage color thanks to the numerous color choices available. The usb port is handy for playing your music collection.

Cons: My wife now wants me to install a new stereo in her car after hearing how great the sound is in my old truck.

Just installed this yesterday in my 2005 Silverado 2500HD. Took me a couple hours. I took my time and made everything fit nicely. It sounds pretty good for the money. In the past I've paid a lot more money for car stereos that didn't sound this good! The display color choice is a neat feature. My wife knew the install was a success when she could hear Iron Maiden cranking from the driveway!

Pros: Sounds great, Affordable, Not too hard to install......with a little patience!

I am glad I chose JVC. I could not be happier with this unit. I just recently programmed everything to my liking and am even more satisfied. If my vehicle weren't on the downswing I'd think about adding some better speakers. I totally plan on keeping this unit for my next vehicle if it is a double din.

Pros: Ease to install, great sound, cool color variations, ability to play from different sources, and sturdy.

Only had this for 4 days, but the User Interface is well above average. Like the ability to balance the volume settings between inputs. Multiple ways of jumping between folders is super. Remote is well thought out. It was easy to teach the wife how to use. She uses CD and I use USB and that way we don't fiddle with each others music. My last unit was a Kenwood 308U - same class, different User Interface. Just a few years ago, I would not have considered a JVC.

Pros: Easy to reach volume control and most switches without leaning forward. The 2010 Camry had the advance knob way on the right side. Rear Aux was a must because you can break off the connection when it sticks out the front only. Dash kit matched perfectly.

Cons: Black shows every finger print and dust or lint. I know, black is supposed to be the in/cool color and other options are just not out there in the right unit for the right price. There is no attenuation button like the 308U Kenwood.

This radio is an excellent replacement for the factory one in my Frontier "S" crew cab. Good value and reasonably easy install.

Cons: A little difficult to use as the one knob has many functions.

The deck is very nice and simple to use. it has a nice glossy color and a ton of options for the audio experts. it has both a USB and an AUX, so odds are, listening to the radio will not be a regular thing. the ONE THING that really put a bump in the road for me when buying, was the installation. I have a 99 Oldsmobile Alero Coupe, and Crutchfield said it would fit. when attempting installation in my Alero it did not. I had to break off big chunks of plastic in the back of the dash, and tuck the very big wiring harness it comes with to the side. the deck would not fit after all of that. so I had to take the receiver kit and rip the face plate off of it, and just keep the side panels on for screws. perfect fit. love my deck!

Pros: very easy to use and fairly cheap!

Cons: Didnt fit initially but I made it fit!

I did not have the time to install it myself, so I did take it to a professional installer in my neighborhood, and 90 minutes later, I have a new and better radio.

Pros: The sound is excellent. Although I am still using the stock speakers, there is a massive difference in sound quality. Everyone who has ridden in my car or has seen the radio has commented to me on how nice it looks.

Cons: The radio is not compatible with my phone for some reason when I plugged it into the USB port, but that's all right. The AUX jack works just fine, and that's why I bought the receiver in the first place.

I've had this unit for a few months. It sounds nice with the factory speakers. It's easy to switch between all of the sources (CD / AM / FM / F-AUX / USB). The large display is bright and easy to see. The only complaint that I have is when using a USB flash drive with multiple artist folders and CDs within each artist folder, when scrolling through, this unit scrolls (Artist Name folder / every CD folder within that artist folder / Next Artist Name folder / every CD folder within that artist folder / and so on). If I have 50 Artist Name folders with 150 CD sub folders (total), I have to scroll through each individual folder to find the one I want. All other units that I have seen, scroll through the upper level folders (Artist Name) and when you find the Artist that you want, you press the enter button which brings you to the Sub Folder (CD Name). It's just a PITA scrolling back and forth try to find a certain CD. Is this the way that this unit works or am I doing something wrong? I called JVC and they "think" that's the way that it is. For anyone who has this unit, is that the way it works. Thanks for any info.

Pros: Good Sound, Easy to use, Large screen

Cons: USB Folder Levels (Artist Name / CD Title)

Great Value - Looked around for a double din under 160, and am a BIG fan of any JVC product. It sounds great. Once you read the 14 pages of manual, your iphone's Pandora app is ready to rock. It varied color choices, as well as the varied sound "coloring" is phenominal. I didn't need the bracket that was attached, but was nice to see all the parts needed for a quality strong installation was there.

Pros: JVC branding, and great options for tone control

Cons: only 14 pages of manual, doesn't dig deep into controlling iphone

Love the JVC KW-R500, the USB port works well and loads quickly. Sound Quality is better than the Alpine I replaced. There is a lot of customization to adjust sound to your preference. I have a sub installed also and the control over it is great as well. Overall I am very happy with the unit and the price was reasonable also. I would recommend to anyone looking for a Double DIN receiver

Pros: USB loads fast, Sound Quality, Sub controls, EQ controls, Built in EQ curves are good, Looks Great and ability to select any color for buttons and display is fun.

Cons: User Manual does not explain "Pro EQ" in detail, Would be nice if you could create shortcut buttons to settings that are regularly adjusted.

Pros: Excellent display and sound quality and very easy to install.

Cons: Not too easy to navigate Pandora. if you listen to grooveshark through Safari you will be disappointed because it will switch to your default itunes music player while its loading the next song.

I had the Crutchfield team do the install, so I can only comment on the units operation. I was able to figure out most of the functions w/o the manual, so it is easy to operate. The only problem I had was somehow I put it on demo mode & it kept changing color, which took me a day to figure out! Decent sound with the stock 6 speaker system.

Pros: This is exactly what I was looking for and at this price, I'm pretty happy with the unit & features. As for the install, the work was quick & professionally completed.

Cons: The only problem is it doesn't work on my interior dimmer switch or dim w/headlights. I just put it on the unit's dim setting & chose a color that didn't distract me.

Worked very well for my needs. Fits my 2005 Sierra fine and looks nice. It is a upgrade from stock unit. manual isn't the best, but crutchfield techs can work you throw features in no time. They are very good.

    Pros: Looks, Features

Cons: Could barely make free dash kit fit and work but once on it looks good. Wish crutchfield would offer better dash kit at extra cost. poor manual both for JVC and dash kit

I purchased this unit to replace the factory radio and it sounds great. Plenty of internal power (20 watts RMS x 4) and a good ipod interface. CD playback ( yes there are some of us that still play CD's- ha ha ) is also great. However, to adjust the tone and display functions, the controls themselves are buried in a menu that you should really use while parked. The Pro EQ function used for tone adjustment though is quite good- instead of simple bass, mid, and treble settings you can adjust by different frequencies ( 60 Hz, 80 Hz, 17.5 Hz and so on). It also allows for different color settings among the display and buttons or you can let the unit change the colors at random- definitely a cool feature. Having installed this unit in a Toyota Camry Solara, it fills up the Double DIN opening just fine; it sticks out just slightly from the front as opposed to the original factory radio but otherwise looks OK. Overall, this unit is highly recommended if you're looking for a Double-DIN unit. The Crutchfield installation instructions were clear- especially the wiring diagram that came with the supplied Crutchfield wiring harness. It made connecting all of the speaker wires and power leads much easier. As an upgrade to a better receiver (especially a factory unit) the KW-R500 just may be hard to beat.

Pros: Internal power, great ipod interface and CD playback, customization features, good tone adjustments through JVC's Pro EQ

Cons: Sometimes difficult to navigate control menu; referring to the owner's manual to understand the KW-R500's functions is a must on occasion. The supplied remote control is kind of small; easy to lose in the car here and there.

Purchased this double din for my daughters 2001 Jetta, I have not installed a unit in years. The supplied wire kit worked perfect and all the wires matched up as stated in the directions. It does everything my daughter was looking for, usb connection, Pandora and IPod compatible, This replaced the factory unit. EASY INSTALL ! I also bought 4 speakers and installed them also. Would purchase this unit again if I had to.

Pros: Cost for the features, EASY INSTALL, Crutchfield supplied wire harness and antenna wiring.

Cons: Her AM does not work just static but she will never use it.

I don't have any high end to compare to, but for the price I am extremely pleased. Does exactly what I need it to do. I stuck it in a 03 Toyota Tundra. I didn't realize how bad my factory was until I put this in. I did pay a little more from crutchfield then other on line sites, but the "extras" and having Crutchfields awesome support to hold my hand more then made up for it. My only regret is that I spent a couple of hours trying to figure it something out and Crutchfield support put me back on track in a matter of seconds. Look forward to upgrading speakers and won't hesitate to call support next time.

Pros: If all you have is a factory model...this thing is great. Give you a little bit of cool factory for not a lot of money.

Cons: I'm an idiot for wasting my time when Crutchfields support was ready to help.

The base radio/single CD player in my 2007 Nissan Frontier NISMO does not have an aux input or any provision for easily adding one. Since I really enjoy music from my iPod I tried using an FM transmitter - the music was there but the sound quality was terrible. After investigating options for improved sound quality I finally concluded that, between a new head unit and an FM modulator, it was probably just as much trouble, and not too much more expensive, to just go ahead and upgrade the radio. After carefully reading all of the Crutchfield reviews on several different units I settled on this one. It's a very nice basic unit for what I need, it sounds great (much better than the old one) even with the factory speakers, and the install (my first one) went fine ( although I took it slow) with the help of some YouTube videos and Crutchfield tech support (excellent). Unlike some other reviewers I have not found the menu difficult to use for setting the many audio and display options, but I do agree that, even on the brightest level, the display is hard to read in bright sunlight. It fits the truck perfectly, although I had to figure out a way to use the trim ring that came with the radio - the "free" Nissan in-dash receiver kit that Crutchfield sent was useless. All-in-all, a great unit and I'm very satisfied. Crutchfield tech support was a great help with several mounting and wiring questions.

Pros: Good looking and very nice quality unit, great fit and great tech support from Crutchfield.

Cons: Display hard to read in bright daylight.

Overall this is a very solid HU. Crutchfield did a bang up job of assisting with the install. I would have given this unit 5 stars but sometimes the unit switches the source(for example I listen to to music via the USB input and the unit sometimes switches to FM or AUX), its only happened during the winter and it more pesky and bothersome than anything. Replicating the exact sound you want it somewhat a cumbersome task, the preset eq options are sufficent. Overall it has good quality and it wont break the bank.

    Pros: Very Stylish

Cons: HU has changed its source on me without input, it has only happened during the winter.

installed in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. goes right in with factory side brackets. does stick out an inch from original double din radio. But no trimming required. I did not use the blu-tooth adapter sold separately. Sound quality is excellent. Also has midrange settings, Crutchfield hooked me up with free wiring harness adapter, colors were a straight match. The dimmer setting go low enuf to not be distracting during night driving. Power to speakers is greatly improved over stock radio. Very little distortion at higher end. For the price, you cant beat it.

Pros: straight swap over stock radio. Takes a little work to get to bass/mid/treble settings. Dimmer goes low enuf. most new unit don't.

Cons: Huge shiny chrome knob on otherwise characterless face. Possible personal preference

The unit was pretty easy to install on my 06 Xterra. I tried out the install kit for the car, but I liked the look without the kit. I'm used to an extremely simple stereo, so it took a day or so to play around with and get comfortable. Now that I "get it", I really like the interface with the iPod. It's fairly intuitive after playing around without looking at the directions. The color choice are nice because I was looking for a head unit to match the Xterra's orange interior glow.

I got this head unit when my mom passed down her 2001 ford escape after she bought a 2009 nissan rouge. I wanted to buy a new stereo with the option to play my ipod or my android phone, because my 2 mix CDs were getting boring. I did my research and found that this would be suitable for my small amount of needs. I read that if I install the new radio I would have to cut some of the existing plastic around the hole where the old one sat, which means the old one would not be able to be reinstalled. What they didn't tell me, which isn't a big deal at all, is that once the new head unit is in, the only way to take it out is to remove the dash, so i made sure everything worked before pushing it in. I also like the day/night lighting option, so when i turn the car's lights on, the head unit automatically dims to my preferred night driving brightness. Overall, for the price, it is a great head unit and i use a sound enhancing app on my ipod and I could still control the app through the stereo buttons, so i was pleasantly surprised.

Pros: Great sound, not bad on the price, headlight activated brightness settings

Cons: The mess of removing plastic from old head unit to make way for this one, and the inability to take it out without removing the entire dash

Purchased as a gift for my girlfriend & her 2004 Ford Focus. She's not much of a radio station listener and had also been using those small transmitter devices, with horrible results, in order to listen to iPod thru the OEM radio. I purchased this receiver based the following features: known JVC quality, positive reviews, USB/AUX inputs, Pandora radio interface, power output, future expandability, display color options. The design aesthetics of the JVC fit very well with the other components of the dash. Sound quality, as a receiver, is slightly better than OEM radio. Not surprising as still using OEM speakers. Sound quality when using front USB/AUX ports or CD is phenomenally crisp & clear. She's pleased with the pre-set EQ functions. A more musically tuned ear will be pleased with the ability to fine tune a "User EQ" function. Read reviews that mentioned this receiver was devoid of a dimming function. That is NOT true. The brightness setting and all other settings, functions & options are simple to access via the intuitive menu function. The set-up is much like a computer menu: click on a folder to access additional folders/sub-folders, rotate the dial to alter the function, push the "back" button to return to previous folder. Overall this is a fantastic radio for the value. The functionality compared to price is tremendous. Simplicity of use makes it a breeze to operate. This receiver is loaded with features that should please all but the most serious audiophile.

Pros: Sound quality/power output vs. the price value, ease of use, intuitive controls, USB port, design aesthetics, button layout, expandability, made a great gift for very happy girlfriend.

Cons: Depending on color hue and brightness selected for "nighttime" illumination the display may be difficult to see when headlights are turned on during daytime rain showers. Won't bring the Space Shuttle out of retirement.

Ok stereo, not high quality but sufficient for the money and our budget. Wish we would have been able to buy a better quality unit.

My wife has been complaining about not having an aux port for a while and I decided to get her a JVC KW-R500 for her 2005 Toyota Rav4. I also purchased the Metra Axxess ASWC and Metra 70-8114 Steering Wheel Control Harness to keep her steering wheel controls working. The JVC KW-R500 definitely gave her the aux port she wanted, but also a USB port for iPod and iPhone, and Bluetooth if she wants it. I was a little bit concerned that the Axxess ASWC would take up the rear aux port and thus eliminating the only way to use Bluetooth, but that was not the case. The ASWC has a special female aux plug that wires into JVC harnesses through a Blue/Yellow wire. I was very happy with that and can now add Bluetooth using the rear aux port of the radio. The sound using an ipod and USB is amazing and may be a bit better than the front aux port, but I thought both sounded great. The controls are easy to use. I was very impressed with the color and brightness adjustments. I matched her original dash lights exactly and dimmed to a nice glow. It fits right into the OEM style.

Pros: Sound, ease of use, and customization of color and brightness

Cons: I have an older 60GB iPod Classic (5th gen?) that will not allow "iPod Mode" when plugged into the USB. It only allows "Head Mode", which means all control and display is done through the unit. It's really not a big deal since I can either plug into the aux port if I want to use the iPod controls. I have a new 160GB iPod that allows the choice between Head Mode, iPod Mode, Ext Mode. This issue is in compatibility list or Apple devices.

I received this unit yesterday, and had it installed within an hour or so of its arrival (it arrived a day earlier than expected, thanks UPS and Crutchfield.) The unit itself is great, it has pandora/iphone support, and they're pretty easy to use (plug the iphone into usb port, click pandora. listen to music.) The installation instructions provided by Crutchfield made the install tremendously easier than I'm use to in the past. The pictures and steps made it very easy to follow, even if you're not mechanically inclined. Fit my 04 Subaru Outback like a glove, with factory mounting hardware (used none that came with new unit)

Pros: Pandora/iPhone support is a very nice feature. I have a "MiFi" 4G hotspot, so it works great with my old iPhone that doesn't have service any longer, as long as there is 4G around anyway... pretty good alternative to satellite radio, since I already own the technology it takes to make it happen, and don't pay any extra. Back to this radio though, I like it, it's very easy to operate. I never bothered looking at the instructions, and I could even figure out how to set the time. wow...

    Cons: None yet,

    Just ok

The aux sounds terrible on this unit, I have had issues with it reading the Ipod usb. Installation was some what easy. Visually it is nice. using the menu isn't as easy as you would think takes a bit to get used to how you adjust it. Setting the clock is easy. I don't use the remote too small and can get lost easy.

Pros: sounds good via stereo and pandora

Cons: takes long sometimes to read ipod connection. Aux sound isn't the greatest

    So worth it!

Originally I was going to stay under $100 for a CD Receiver, but I'm so glad I sprung the extra $50+ - well worth it! I ugraded the factory speakers in my Frontier a couple years ago, which made the factory head unit sound much better [lower bass and very crisp highs] however, this JVC has more power than the factory radio, and coupled with a kicker 200 watt rms amp and 12" sub, I can lower the bass on my other speakers, allowing me to drive them at a level even higher than I listen to normally, without distortion. The JVC fit in my dash, looks great, and sounds great -- don't be afraid to get it.

Pros: Two RCA outs & two 3.5mm inputs; upgraded clean power with keeping factory wiring to speakers; adjustable cool display; many adjustment features; easy to install; wiring harness wires matched colors.

Cons: Some of the settings are beneath layers of menus.

    Nice upgrade from factory

This a great upgrade for my 2004 Silverado OEM stereo. It fits without any modification and cutting to the truck. the sound quality is great, even through my old speakers. It hasd brought new life to them. The main reason I bought it was for the USB input, which I love. The menus can be a little complicad to get through. My only dissapointmetn is the I thought I'd be able to access genre, artist, and playlist menus on the USB. I guess that only available with an Ipod.

Pros: great sound, ease of installation

Cons: Can only use the certain menus with the Ipod.

    Pleasantly Surprised

The factory stereo in my 2002 CR-V EX was nice, but I wanted to enjoy music from my iPod. My original plan was use a $50 adapter to allow me to hook up my iPod headphone jack, but soon learned the current setup would not work. After talking with Crutchfield's experts, I learned I could replace the entire unit that had all the features and more for only a small amount of money. This unit wasn't difficult to install thanks to the wiring harness and mastersheets shipped with the product. When I turned it on, I was immediately impressed by how well it sounded. My only regret is I didn't do this about 3-4 years ago!

Pros: Great sound, nice USB/Ipod/AUX inputs.

I got this unit to fill a double din space in my Subaru. I mostly wanted a front Aux input, but knew I would also get a stronger/cleaner amp section. The install was easy using the instructions and just looking things over. It took a bit for me to figure out that I needed to remove all the brackets from the new unit and then the factory bracket would fit. The wiring harness was not plug and play but all the wires were color-to-color. This unit definitely woke my factory speakers up a bit but nothing life changing. Just a little more dynamics, a little more treble extension. All and all I'm happy with the unit for the price.

Pros: Easy to use controls Strong EQ features

Cons: Display does not dim far enough Some functions buried a few menu layers down and not easy to get to while driving No clock display when unit is turned off.

I have been ordering things from Crutchfield for the past 20-years. They have always provided me with very good customer service and their packaging is always gorilla proof. For 150 bucks this cd player does more than what I need it to do. The buttons are large squared style buttons are as close as a match to my Tiburons factory buttons as you can get. Once you get all your settings set it's very easy to use. The sound quality has greatly improved...even with the factory speakers. The free wiring harness Crutchfield supplied made wiring a piece of cake.

Pros: Factory like buttons. Ability to change colors to match your dash. Great sound quality and ease of use.

Cons: This has nothing to do with Crutchfield nor the cd player itself but the Metra installation kit is the cheapest most flimsy kit I`ve ever seen. I had to modify the paper thin brackets supplied by the Metra kit to make the cd player fit in my Tiburon's dash.
