Our take on the JVC KW-R910BT

by Jon Paulette
JVC

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

An entertainment powerhouse

Choose a source, choose a display color, choose an app — the JVC KW-R910BT gives you all the entertainment options you expect, and more. The symmetrical design looks terrific, while a host of connectivity features make this CD receiver an outstanding travel companion.

With built-in Bluetooth® and a variety of inputs, the KW-R910BT lets you access your digital media in a variety of ways. Play music from your iPhone®, Android™ or music player, or choose from JVC's ever-growing list of compatible apps. You can also plug a thumb drive into the front USB port, hook up your MP3 player to the front AUX input, or pop in a CD.

Awesome with your iPhone®

Once you plug your iPod or iPhone into the USB input, you can use the KW-R910BT's oversized knob and buttons to navigate your entire music library. With your iPhone connected, you can play your Pandora® Internet Radio stations through the receiver, and even skip and rate songs like you do online. The powerful USB port will keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once.

Of course, you don't have to plug in at all if your iPhone is equipped with Siri® Eyes Free functionality. Just link up and enjoy hands-free control.

This sophisticated receiver also lets you pair two phones at once, so there's no need to choose between your personal and business phones. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance how (or whether!) to answer the call. To answer, just tap the volume knob. And you can search your contacts alphabetically when you want to call someone.

JVC KW-R910BT CD Receiver

Customize your receiver's appearance with the 3-zone variable color display.

Design your display

If you like your display to look a certain way, you'll love the 3-zone Variable-Color Display. You can choose from over 30,000 options, and even assign three different colors to your controls and the display. Choose your three favorite colors, or make your JVC pay tribute to your favorite sports team – the choice is yours. And if you can't decide, let the receiver cycle through all the colors continually. It's actually a very cool effect!

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (see "Accessories") to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The JVC KW-R910BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 2.1+EDR), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KW-R910BT. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KW-R910BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC  head unit with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio player connected at one time (but only one can be used at a time).

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KW-R910BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket) featuring adjustable gain, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KW-R910BT also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing A Number: Using the KW-R910BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
      • Speed Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KW-R910BT.You can search through your contacts alphabetically (A-Z) or numerically (0-9). Up to 400 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone.
      • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.
Note: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level and noise cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.505" (depth).

SMS: If your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is compatible with SMS (Short Message Service), the JVC head unit will notify you when a message has been received. You must then use your phone to check the message. You cannot read, edit, or send a message through this unit.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Metadata Display): The JVC KW-R910BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KW-R910BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, Fast Forward/Rewind and Random/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title. The KW-R910BT also supports audio streaming of music apps downloaded on your smartphone with metadata display and limited control. Advanced music control of your music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or 5/5C/5S via Bluetooth (not USB), the JVC KW-R910BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply press the "phone command" button on theKW-R910BT to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the KW-R910BT; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone 4S/5/5C/5S. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    • JVC Music Control: By connecting the JVC CD receiver via USB to an Android smartphone (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only) that has the free JVC Music Control app installed, it allows you to list and search your MP3 music stored on the smartphone from the receiver by artist name or album name. The JVC Music Control app also analyzes all of your songs that are in your Android smartphone, and creates a playlist according to your mood. Once the application has completed the analysis of the songs, simply select your current mood, and this application will generate a list of songs that best fits your mood. Your compatible Android smartphone must be recognized as a USB mass storage class device; not compatible with MTP protocol.
    • Drive Change Mode: When an Android smartphone is connected to the USB input terminal, you can select its internal memory or external memory (such as an microSD card) to playback the songs stored on the phone or on the memory card. This feature is also compatible with other USB mass storage class compliant smartphones, such as Blackberry.

iPod/iPhone Connectivity w/ DAC Bypass: The JVC KW-R910BT's front-panel USB port can acts as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the Lightning or Dock cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music and music apps to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 16-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 105dB. The KW-R910BT's USB connection also offers music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the JVC in-dash head unit. • Head Unit Mode: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search for stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, and Composer. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically (A-Z) or numerically (0-9). The KW-R910BT also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone. You'll also be able to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from select music apps streamed to your iPhone. During Head Unit Mode, the KW-R910BT will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information; such as Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label. Newer iPod/iPhones with iOS 6.0+ allow you to continue to access your Apple device's touchscreen in this mode in order to access other applications; older iPod/iPhone devices will be locked during connection.
    • iPod/iPhone Mode: The iPod/iPhone Mode lets you control your older iPod/iPhone (iOS 5.1.1 and earlier) from its clickwheel or touchscreen. You'll still have access to basic playback controls (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track) from the head unit, but advanced navigation functions will be locked. No song/artist information is displayed in this mode. The unit will simply display "iPhone Mode".
Note: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

From the head unit's front-panel controls, iHeartRadio stations can be searched by the following categories (Local, Genre, City, or My Stations). The Local selection provides a list of radio stations in your local listening area. The unit also provides over 22 Genres to choose from (including pop, country, hip-hop, jazz, etc.) to help you find the right radio station for you. In addition, you can search for radio stations by City. Cities can be searched alphabetically (A-Z). You can even store your favorite stations (My Stations) for easier, quicker access. An active iHeartRadio account is required.
Note: Access to these Internet Radio services will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android/Blackberry smartphone to connect to the Internet. Not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

16 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KW-R910BT utilizes a 16-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KW-R910BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KW-R910BT are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)
Note: When you are using the KW-R910BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

2.5V/4CH Preamp Output: The KW-R910BT is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front, Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading.

Subwoofer Controls: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter at 55Hz, 85Hz, or 120Hz. You can also adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between -8 and +8 (separate from the main volume level).

Pro EQ: The KW-R910BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 12 preset sound modes (Flat, Hard Rock, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Talk, vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Classical, Dance, User 1, or User 2) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    • Bass Boost: The unit's Bass Boost enhances low bass frequencies.
    • Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set this feature to High, Low, or Off.
    • Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

3 Zone Variable Color: The head unit's variable color illumination is separated into 3 Zones (Zone 1, Display Zone, and Zone 2). The KW-R910BT offers 29 color presets and custom colors for each of these zones. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. You can choose to use the same color for all 3 Zones, or use a different color for each separate Zone.

    • Zone 1: Zone 1 consists of the rotary knob and the push buttons around the knob, plus the Aux and USB input.
    • Display Zone: The Display Zone consists of the front-panel LCD.
    • Zone 2: Zone 2 consists of the Preset buttons and eject button.

Lighting Effects + Color Guide: You can select a preset color change pattern/speed for all 3 Zones (Zone 1, Display Zone, and Zone 2). Choose from Spectrum, Groove, Techno, Emotion, Relax, and Night Sweep. When activated, the Color Guide mode changes the display and all button illumination to white when menu settings or music list search are performed.

Brightness & Dimmer Control: The unit offers a daytime and nighttime brightness setting for the LCD, button, and USB input terminal. You can adjust the brightness level of each zone manually from 0-31. The unit's dimmer control can be set automatically or manually; select "Off" for daytime brightness setting, "On" for nighttime brightness setting, or "Auto" which switches between day and nighttime brightness setting automatically when you turn off/on the headlights (orange/white wire of harness must be connected to headlamp circuit).

Day & Time: The unit displays a 12-or 24-hour clock, as well as the day (Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat). The day & time can be selected to remain on, even if the head unit is switched off (as long as the vehicle's key is in the accessory or start position).

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On or Off within the menu.

2-DIN Chassis: The JVC KW-R910BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. One sure-fire way to draw attention to your dash

Written by Dominic Devito, Staff Writer - Creative, on 3/24/2014 4:47:00 PM

The JV KW-R910BT double-DIN (4" tall) CD receiver is a great fit for drivers with oversized dash openings looking for Bluetooth compatibility and a little more without spending a ton of money. It has a very sleek, futuristic look, complete with color adjustments available for three separate sections of the display, so you can get really creative if you want to. The center positioning of the knob is nice, but it makes the phone button just to the right of it a little more inaccessible than usual. The 2-line display is really easy to read, but I do wish it was a little wider to accommodate more text at one time.

The buttons are intelligently placed for the most part, though some of the lower ones are a little small for guys with big fingers such as myself. The light around the aux input is a BIG plus, and helpful for finding it in the dark.

The Bluetooth pairing was pretty fast and reliable with my iPhone 5. Bluetooth streaming worked well, even for Pandora. The wired connection allowed for Pandora to incorporate thumbs up/down, and my tunes sounded noticeably better through a wired USB connection than via Bluetooth. Another sound enhancement was the Bass Boost, which really pumped up the low end.

Another plus of this stereo was the ability to switch between "iPod mode" and "head unit mode" quickly, which toggles control of the iPod/iPhone between the receiver (for the driver) and through the device itself (for passengers). This is a solid stereo that sounds great and can incorporate a lot of different media. If you're cool with its looks, it's a relative bargain that stands out in an increasingly crowded field.

Why didn't I get this before! Loving it!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had been using the stock system that came in my 2007 Ford Escort, with an iPod adapter cobbled on. Jacking my phone into the radio caused a lot of noise, and I broke a few 1/8" audio cables over time. Decided to move into this century, and after an on-line chat with a Crutchfield person, decided on this JVC unit. WOW!!!! What a difference!! Even the marginal sounding podcasts that I subscribe to sound TONS better! Bluetooth pairing with my Galaxy S4 is a breeze, and EVERYTHING plays through it... music, podcasts, GPS. Pretty easy to use, and I installed it myself with the provided hardware in an hour. Looks great in the car, too! My 1hr+ each way commute is much more pleasant, and I am listening to music again because it SOUNDS good! Now, to upgrade the stock speakers.... oh Crutchfield????? Let's talk!
    Pros:
Sounds great Solid Bluetooth integration Easy to use Simple to install
    Cons:
None so far (after a month)

Great sound and easy to use. Bluetooth is easy to set up and the adjustable color is nice to mat h factory lighting. Greatly improved the sound in my 04 sonata. Instalation was straightforward.
    Pros:
Easy to use. Bluetooth. Nice looks. Good sound.
    Cons:
Would like more brightness control (I like my lights dim). I heart radio instructions could be better.

great deck - toyota matrix 2003

Written By julia, hawaii on Sunday, April 13, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

wasn't sure about the layout at first. Took just a small amount of time reading the manual to figure out how to navigate the settings. Bluetooth to my phone was flawless, install of microphone and deck was fairly straighforward, the wiring supplied by crutchfield was perfect. The hardest part was the faceplate. overall great!
    Pros:
Value, sounds quality of deck and microphone/bluetooth phone. Seamless to ipod, phone and usb and aux plugs are a plus. Love this deck. Also, props to the support of crutchfield's staff. Knowledgable crew and exactly as I remembered from 15+ years ago when I did my last stereo install from them.
    Cons:
Only con is faceplate and mounting adapter instructions. Seriously bad. Had to dremel just about every notch from both side mounting brackets and 6 tabs off the faceplate. Even then, the fit on the matrix was not perfect.

Great sound quality! Excellent Bluetooth control, works well with iPhone. A friend has the previous version of this unit, and I liked his. I purchased this unit and installed it in my 2014 Versa Note. Took a few mods to get it trimmed right, but it looks and functions great. If you want a stylish unit that works well and sounds cool, get this radio!
    Pros:
Cool, sound, display, HD Radio, and app control built in
    Cons:
Learning curve for setup is only drawback, included manual not real clear. Went online.

Purchased for 2003 G35 Coupe with Bose

Written By Kevin R., Midlothian, VA on Friday, April 11, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Finisher went bad in my G35(common problem), which controls the climate control and radio in the vehicle. I have never replaced a car stereo before and was nervous about breaking something, or not being able to get new stuff to work. I received the radio and aftermarket finisher kit from Metra and did some internet research on how to take out the Infiniti radio and all went well! Radio sounds and operates great and now I have my climate controls back. I saved about $800 bucks from what Infiniti wanted to just replace the finisher in my old head unit, because. Took about 2 hours and everything worked on first go. I did have to call tech support once, but they were very knowledgeable. Fyi, both blue wires, and the blue/white need to all 3 be connected. Be sure to go easy when screwing things into the Metra at the end like the storage part. The plastic is soft and basically wont screw down tight, so know my storage pocket on the top wont sit flush.
    Pros:
Easy install, works great and as advertised. Great Price!
    Cons:
Setting up and using the menu takes a little to get used to.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this to get Bluetooth in my 2006 Hyundai Sonata. It went in fine and pairs well. It has more features than I need. I tried the iheart radio and it works, but I am disappointed with the integration. It doesn't seem to display my custom stations. Only the live stations. If I just connect to my android phone using Bluetooth and open the app on my phone, I can play anything I want. Hands free speakerphone works well. I was disappointed with the delay while streaming via Bluetooth. It is fine when I am streaming audio, but if I stream video there is a noticeable lag between the images and the sound. Very distracting while watching podcasts. (not while I am driving, thank you very much!) Crutchfield's instructions and mounting hardware and harness were spot-on as usual.
    Pros:
    Easy controls, big display. Bluetooth.
    Cons:
    Lag while streaming via Bluetooth.

    Pros:
great customer service, fast responses by email, phone and one day shipping!! For free!! Killer radio, Bluetooth hooked up in under a minute and Pandora controls on the deck are awesome!!

Easy install. UNBELIEVABLE features! Bluetooth compatible. AM, FM, Pandora and iHeart.
    Pros:
Great fit. Feature filled. Works automatically with my IPhone. No trouble pairing. Functions as well as my OEM Smart Radio in my Acadia. Sound is clear and loud without abberations. Harness was uncomplicated. install took two days but only about thirty minutes total time. Once I knew the arrival time from UPS (LATE) I removed the stock radio that night and assembled the wiring adapter. The next day the unit slipped right in. Three connections, tightened the screws and I was up and running!
    Cons:
It is a little complicated to set up. One knob does almost everything. follow the directions and you will be OK.

I think I am mostly happy with the stereo. The blue tooth doesn't work as well as I would like, it doesn't answer or call from the stereo. The time also is off by an hour all the time. For the first few weeks I would change it but it just goes right back. Very annoying. Now I just ignore it.
    Pros:
Very colorful, easy to use. Nice sound, remote works well.
    Cons:
The time doesn't stay the same. Also blue tooth only works sometimes.

After being spoiled by the entertainment system in my new Ford Taurus, I decided to update the system in my 2005 Ford Truck. This JVC package puts me on a par with my Taurus by offering bluetooth, hands-free calling, usb plug-in, audio plug-in, cd-slot and it allows me to take control of my entertainment by enabling me to program my own music. In my opinion, it satisfies every need an audiophile could have.

    Usable, but not perfect

Written By GJR, Seattle, WA on Monday, April 07, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to upgrade from a factory unit that had no MP3 or USB capabilities, after two different fiascos with upgraded OEM (junkyard) units. I just wanted a radio in there with these capabilities that would work. Well, this JVC does that. I can't say it does more. Yes, you can change the color of the lights on the faceplate to match your sports team or your hair color or whatever else. This feature is pointless if you're over 25 years old. What would be nice is a radio tuning unit that was at least as functional as the OEM radio it replaced (this JVC's is not), and a MP3 read/playback subroutine that is at least as functional as an OEM radio (this JVC's is not). It gets as many stars as it does simply because the aux and USB functions work well. Probably better than any other part of the unit. The only reason I haven't shipped this pile of junk back to Crutchfield is because I've already torn apart my dash 3 times, and don't want to do it again. So I'll deal with the completely subpar functions because they at least work. For now.
    Pros:
AUX and USB functionality is as expected. Display is very readable, buttons are large, easy to access and manipulate.
    Cons:
FM reception is much weaker than the stock radio; stations I could clearly pick up before now cut out randomly or don't come in at all. MP3 discs have to be "fully read" by the head unit before it will start to play a single file, and it has to do this every time a disc is changed or the unit power on. This unit's read function is so slow that takes a minimum of 2 minutes every single time. This makes the disc function almost useless given the short trips this car is used for.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Initially I had problems getting it to work with my iphone. After I got used to it, it works great. The hands free blue tooth microphone is extremely clear. The display adjustability is so adjustable that it's complicated but after some playing, I matched my subarus colors exactly. Does not look like a flashy stereo, which is great. Looks smooth and stock.

Make sure you turn demo mode off! The light show is distracting.

Sounds worlds better then stock hu, even with stock speakers.

    JVC KW-R910BT In Ford Ranger

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great value in a blue tooth enabled radio. Double DIN fit perfectly in the dash with included install kits. At the time of installation I also removed the dash gauge cluster to replace light bulbs and remove dust, and positioned the blue tooth microphone in the upper right hand corner of the cluster on the out side. Almost out of sight and directly in front of my voice! A couple of 4X8 kickers in the doors and the sound is way better than OEM.
    Pros:
Great fit, install kits were very helpful, good features for the money. Love the little remote control and the front USB connection.
    Cons:
The display is some what hard to read during day light, and to change the volume, I almost always hit the the the knob to hard and pause the unit.

I looked hard and I don't think one can find a unit that have so much to offer for that low price.
    Pros:
Good power 22 RMS is above average. While testing it the metalwork of the car started to shake like those sub-woofers, when you stand outside of a car, and I don't have one, just aftermarket Infinity speakers which are another great bang for the buck. Bluetooth works fine, although I never tried the Pandora and iHart apps I am more of a NPR podcast listener and for radio Tunein Radio. Lots of options to play with the sound. Great options for colors.
    Cons:
No "pause" button, at least no visible to me. Bluetooth can be impossible if you are like me and work your phone only (like most radios) here YOU MUST PRESS the volume knob when you see your device name. Yeah you're welcome I called JVC not ashamed to admit it since the manual has no mention of it ether. The screen could have more rows displaying more info, but then again that might have been done to keep the price low. I would preferred integrated microphone but people r saying external mic i

I was looking to upgrade the system in my truck mainly because I wanted to use my iPhone. Crutchfield had an amazing deal on this unit so I purchased it along with 2 Kenwood 3-way and 2 Pioneer 4-way speakers. The sound is amazing right out of the box! The install kits (for the dash unit and speakers) made it a snap to put in. If you are capable of DIY, the Crutchfield is the only way to go!
    Pros:
Value, ease of installation and detailed instructions.

I have had this receiver for about a month now. It was super easy to install, pairing the BT was just as easy too and setting the look just the way I wanted it was a breeze. The interface is great, just look through the manual as you adjust the setting for the first time. A great unit at a great price.
    Pros:
BT pairing with my HTC One was cake and it links quickly as I start my car. The variable color display is so easy to adjust to match the interior lights as well as having a nice contrast, depending on my mood.
    Cons:
Just to nit-pick a little, I would like an adjustable font size and I would prefer the Artist and Song title to scroll together instead of album and artist. No big deal really. Just saying.

As an amateur DIY, you get to the point where you have taken apart your dash and just stare at about 18 wires and think... There is no going back now! What is great about Crutchfield (and the entire reason I choose them over another online retailer) is that I called up and spoke with a real person who helped me identify which wires go where. As for the stereo, it BOOMS and sounds great with my factory subwoofer. I love the hand-free bluetooth and should have done this years ago.
    Pros:
    Sounds great.
    Cons:
As others have mentioned, it has so many features it can be a little hard to use. Manual reads like stereo instructions (haha).

Great upgrade from factory stereo. Nice double din with easy navigation of basic features. This is my second JVC unit in passed to years, the first was a single din on my old Xterra. Unit has a lot of functionality if your inclined to Tweak it and such.
    Pros:
Installation was a breeze. Bluetooth with phone integration is easy to use.
    Cons:
The color options for the display are infinite... Spent more time messing with it than sound, otherwise pretty cool visually.

Great Head unit, but installation could have been easier.

Written By gwendelahara, PA on Sunday, March 30, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great head unit, and a steal for the Bluetooth capabilities. I thought I would be able to install this without much help, but I was wrong (I used to do these installs to my old hoopties when I was a teen). Not JVC's fault, it was Metra's car to radio adapter harness and Metra's steering wheel adapter kits. Had to cut a wire behind my 2012 Honda Fit's stock wiring harness to make everything work with the steering wheel controls. I'm only mentioning this because these are items that were bundled/suggested for installation by Crutchfield. Hope everyone can get on the same page in the future. The unit greatly improved the quality of my stock speakers, I was amazed. The bluetooth works pretty well - pairs with my phone within 10 seconds of getting in the car. The Siri hands-free function is pretty cool - though she doesn't always understand what i'm saying, it is handy to send quick messages without distracting yourself from driving. The customizable display is good if you like variety in your display colors - Some of the colors are really hard to see in daylight though. Wish the Pandora mode worked via BT with iPhone (you need to hook it up via USB to use the features). The option to turn off modes you do not use if handy though if you don't want to have to scroll through a bunch of modes you don't use.
    Pros:
serious upgrade from stock head, audio and display options galore, good BT connectivity
    Cons:
Pandora needs USB for iPhone use, Daylight display hard to read

Got stereo, was ready to install plugs when I saw the pig tails did not match the factory Kia connector. quick call to Support ( midyear change in wiring). 4 days later, car is rockin'-n-rollin'. This JVC is intuitive for me and the wife. She likes the variable color schemes and I like the Audio Adjustability's, She also likes the sound way more than the factory HeadUnit, even with OEM speakers. Install was a breeze, even with delay in correct wiring shipment. If installing in Kia Sportage would recommend checking connectors in dash. We have 2001 Also If installing Speakers you will need trim rings. Speakers sit on, not, in doors. I checked, in case Wife wants to upgrade front speakers

This is the third Bluetooth radio I've purchased from Crutchfield and in my opinion the best. I particularly like that it has a separate source selection for iHeart radio. For the most part it is easy to use but there are a couple of glitches which I will describe under Cons.
    Pros:
Nice looking unit with very good sound. Has separate source selections for Pandora and iHeart radio. Very large display for easy reading.
    Cons:
The hands free telephone system is a little touchy. Several time I have not been able to make a call using the "voice" option. The manual indicates you can have 18 preset FM stations. I'm fairly tech savvy and for the life of me I can't set up more than six that are easily usable.

Super-nice upgrade at a great price

Written By Scott, Collinsville,IL. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit to replace the awful factory unit in my 2010 Honda Fit. It's my econobox daily commuter, and I needed a decent receiver to keep me sane in rush hour traffic. I also needed something that had Bluetooth capability at a decent price. In short - this unit fit the bill perfectly. Someone else commented on here how much better the system sounded even with the factory junk speakers - and I would agree 100% with that. The sound quality with just the receiver replacement alone made a tremendous difference (but I still upgraded the speakers a few days later). The Bluetooth works flawlessly, and the system has a ton of functions. However - I concur with what others have said on here about keeping the operating instructions handy, as the initial setup is a bit complex, at least for an non-techno-savvy guy like myself. I've had never ordered from Crutchfield before, but after this experience I couldn't recommend them enough. They supply you with EVERYTHING you need for a professional do-it-yourself installation, and the supplied instructions were brain-dead simple. Shipping was also ridiculously fast, which is always a plus.
    Pros:
Tons of various and useful functions, nice looking unit, clear display, really nice sound.
    Cons:
A little complex to operate from the start. You have to really read through the instructions and learn all of the settings and features.

I needed a new radio to replace my factory unit, due to a non-functional CD player ( yes I'm old). This unit popped up on an email from Crutchfield. The was, I thought, very good, as were the reviews. I ordered it and it arrived within 2 days, very nice! The install sheet was emailed to me with the ship confirmation, so I was able to follow the install instructions on my iPad, very convenient. The installation in my RAV4 was a snap, about 2 hrs. start to finish, and the new unit looks like it really belongs there. Sound quality is excellent and the addition of bluetooth for hands-free phone calls is a major plus for me. The funky light show is customizable and I dialed it down a little. I had some issues with connectivity with my iPhone initially, but ironed them out fairly quickly. All in all, I'm very happy with this unit . going to do the speakers next.
    Pros:
    Great value, sound quality, features
    Cons:
Bluetooth phone setup was a little confusing at first.
