Get your apps on

JVC's KW-V30BT DVD receiver offers an eye-catching 6.1" variable-color touchscreen display, a built-in DVD/CD player, USB port, built-in Bluetooth®, and lots of settings you can tweak. But, you can take your driving experience to the next level by using its HDMI input to connect select smartphones and tablets and use a variety of apps on the go.

What you need

The KW-V30BT's HDMI input lets you enjoy access to many of the apps on your smartphone or tablet directly from the controls on the receiver. Here's the lowdown on what you need depending on your smartphone:

  • iPhone® 5, 5C, and 5S: You'll need to connect the Apple Lightning™ to USB cable and an HDMI cable (sold separately) to Apple's Lightning Digital AV adapter. Working with the iPhone 5's Bluetooth, you'll be able to mirror and control select apps on the KW-V30BT's touchscreen display.
  • iPhone 4 and 4S: Connect your iPhone 4 or 4S to the KW-V30BT's rear USB and analog audio/video input using the JVC KS-U59 cable, and you'll have access to JVC's App Link Mode.
  • Select MHL-enabled Android® phones: Once you download the JVC Control app on your phone, you'll connect your Android to the JVC receiver with an HDMI/MHL cable, such as the JVC KS-U61. After pairing your Android phone with this JVC, you'll get app control on the touchscreen display.

With your smartphone connected, you can enjoy select navigation, driver assistance, video, and music apps — all of which can be controlled on the KW-V30BT's display or by voice command.

Sound and vision

You can customize the KW-V30BT's touchscreen layout and set the display colors that best suit your dash. JVC's touch control lets you run your entertainment system with a few swipes to scroll through music folders, skip songs, and adjust the volume. JVC also included some easy-to-find button controls and a volume knob, so you can concentrate on the road.

Once you've got the music you want, you can tweak it with the built-in 3-band parametric equalizer. If you're adding amps, you'll appreciate the three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs for super-clean audio.

Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth gives you hands-free calling convenience, plus a wireless connection to the songs stored on your compatible music player. If you're an Android user, you'll really appreciate this receiver's Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) technology. JVC includes an external Bluetooth microphone which you can place in a good spot in your vehicle for superior hands-free communication.

And if you have an iPhone with Siri, the KW-V30BT supports Siri Eyes Free through Bluetooth, which means you can ask Siri to make calls, select and play music, compose and hear text messages, read notifications, even use maps and get directions — all commanded by your voice through the receiver. This convenient feature can make your drive safer and more productive.

Lots of ways to get music

If you enjoy Internet radio on your iPhone or Android, you'll really enjoy playing music from Pandora® and iHeartRadio® on this versatile receiver. You can scroll through your stations, bookmark songs, and give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down right from the receiver's face.

The AM/FM tuner includes the Radio Data System (RDS), so you get artist, song, and station info on the display. You can also take your radio experience to next step by adding the compatible SiriusXM tuner, so you can get the latest news, talk, and music from your favorite satellite radio stations wherever you drive.

Video on the go

Use the rear analog audio/video inputs to hook up your favorite portable audio player, a camcorder, or another video source. This receiver boasts an audio/video output to send movies to a rear video screen, so your passengers will stay happy during the longest road trips. And, the KW-V30BT's dual zone capability means the kids can watch a movie in the back with headphones while you listen to your favorite music up front. If you've got a big vehicle, you'll appreciate the input for a rear-view camera — helpful for when you're maneuvering your vehicle in tight spaces.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC DVD receiver. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    • Customizable Home Screen: The Home Screen displays your three favorite source icons (which are customizable), clock/date, phone icon, menu setting, and an "All Source" icon (which changes the Home Screen to display all available sources)
    • Background Image: You can select from 9 different background images for the touchscreen display. In addition, you capture an image from an inserted USB device and use it as a custom background. When using a JPEG file as the background, make sure that the resolution is 800 x 480 pixels.
    • Aspect Ratio & Picture Adjustment: You can adjust the brightness and black level of the unit's onscreen display. You can also adjust the contrast, color, tint, and detail level during video playback. The adjustment level for each setting is -15 to +15. You can also choose from four aspect modes for the in-dash display; choose from Full (for 16:9), Regular (for 4:3), Panorama (for viewing 4:3 in widescreen), or Zoom 1-3 (changes magnification).
    • Adjustable Dimmer: When the illumination lead (orange/white) is connected and the dimmer set to Auto, the display will dim automatically when you turn on your vehicle's lights. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), or Dimmer Time Set (you program the time for the dimmer to turn off an on).

Note: There are eight options for the menu language; including English, French, Spanish, and five others.

Front-Panel Controls w/ Variable Color Illumination: In addition to the head unit's touchscreen monitor, the KW-V350BT features hard-key controls along the left edge of the screen. The unit includes a 3-way rotary dial for Volume (up/down) control and push-button controls for Power, Menu, Display, and Phone functions. he unit's touchscreen and hard-key buttons color can be changed to one of eight preset colors - blue, light blue, red, green, yellow, orange, violet, or white. You can also choose to have the unit constantly scroll through all eight preset color. In addition, you can create a custom color using a combination (0-31) of red, green, and blue. You can save separate color settings for Daytime and Nighttime driving.

Clock/Calendar Display: The DVD receiver offers a 12-/24-hour clock and month/date/year display which is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "AV Off" mode. Pressing and holding the "Home" button turns the unit off completely.

While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork.

    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.4 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KW-V350BT. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) + Auto Pairing (for iPhone): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KW-V350BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can even pair your Apple iPhone by simply connecting it to the JVC head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display. When a paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC head unit with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio player connected at one time (but only one can be used at a time).

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The JVC KW-V350BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the KW-V350BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the KW-V350BT and its microphone. The head unit's LCD touchscreen will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the JVC KW-V350BT; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Lightning connector. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

The JVC KW-V350BT supports playback of DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-Audio, CD-R/RW, and VCD discs. iPhone/Android Integration

iPod/iPhone AV Playback: The JVC KW-V350BT supports direct connection of your 30-pin or Lightning-connector iPod/iPhone through its rear-panel USB port and 3.5mm input. The KW-V350BT supports playback of stored music and videos, as well as music and video apps on select Apple iPod/iPhone models. Video can only be displayed while the vehicle is in park.

    • 30-Pin Dock Connector: If you own an older iPod/iPhone with the 30-pin dock connector, you can enjoy audio and video files on your Apple device through the JVC KW-V350BT. Using JVC's KS-U59 iPod video cable (105KSU59, sold separately), you can enjoy audio playback of your stored music and music apps on your iPod/iPhone; plus video playback of your stored movies and video apps on your iPod/iPhone through the JVC KW-V350BT. If you only desire audio playback, you can use the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KW-V350BT.
    • Lightning Connector: If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the JVC KW-V350BT for audio playback only. You'll be able to listen to stored music and music apps on your Lightning-connector Apple device through the JVC DVD receiver. To watch stored video and video apps (like Netflix) in addition to music from your Lightning-connector Apple device on the KW-30BT, you'll need Apple's Lightning-to-Digital AV adapter, a Lightning-to-USB cable, and a mobile-grade HDMI cable; such as the JVC's KSU-60 HDMI cable (all sold separately) - this type of connection also requires Bluetooth pairing.

Note: You will need to select which type of connection method you are using in the head unit's setup menu.

iPod/iPhone Control w/ Metadata + Charging: The JVC KW-V350BT offers head unit control, song/artist information display, and battery charging for your connected Apple device.

    • iPod/iPhone Control: You can control your connected iPod/iPhone from the head unit's touchscreen. From the head unit's touchscreen you can search for music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, Composer, and Audiobook. You can search video by Playlist, Movies, Music Videos, TV Shows, and Video Podcasts. Once a Playlist or Category is selected, the content is listed in alphabetical order. The KW-V350BT also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone. Newer iPod/iPhones with iOS 6.0+ allow you to continue to access your Apple device's touchscreen so you can navigate your stored music and music apps from the mobile device; older iPod/iPhone devices will be locked during connection.
    • Song/Artist Info + Album Art: The KW-V350BT will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information of your stored music. The head unit will indicate Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song/Album title, and Album Art. The unit will also display metadata information from Pandora and App Link Mode apps. Other applications will simply display the message "Do you want to exit app and switch to iPod Source"; tapping the "Yes" butt will take you back to your iPod/iPhone's stored music, while pressing the "No" button turns unit off.
    • iPod/iPhone Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the head unit's USB connection will power and charge your iPod/iPhone (not the iPad). If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Apps Mode for iPhone & Android (via HDMI): You can listen to audio from stored music and music apps, watch video from stored movies and movie apps, and view navigation apps on your iPhone (iOS 7+) or Android smartphone (4.1+), using the head unit's HDMI input and its Apps Mode. The head unit will mirror the display of your mobile device (not always full-screen) when in Apps Mode. Apps Mode also provides basic playback control for your iPhone from the receiver's touchscreen; basic playback functions include Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Previous/Next Track. You can even control your Android device from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from the smartphone; this requires that your vehicle's parking brake be engaged (all other Apps mode functionality does not require the parking brake be engaged). Using either a compatible iPhone or Android smartphone, you can also exit App Mode and access Pandora, and iHeartRadio directly from the head unit's touchscreen with advance music navigation and control. In addition, the iPhone lets you access its stored music and video library from the head unit's touchscreen with advance search and playback control when connected via HDMI. While navigation maps from your smartphone can be displayed on the JVC head unit's touchscreen, the navigation app will still need to be controlled from your iPhone or Android device (unless you have the vehicle's parking brake engaged; in this case you can control Android maps from the head unit's touchscreen).

    • iPhone Connectivity: If you have an iPhone  with the Lightning connector, you will need Apple's Lightning-to-Digital AV adapter, a Lightning-to-USB cable, and a mobile-grade HDMI cable; such as the JVC's KSU-60 HDMI cable (all sold separately) - this type of connection also requires Bluetooth pairing. The HDMI connector provides the audio/video playback, while the USB connection charges your iPhone device. The Bluetooth connection allows you to control basic playback functions from the head unit.
    • Android Connectivity: The head unit's HDMI port is MHL compatible; this means you can simply connect your MHL-compatible Android smartphone to the  receiver via a MHL-to-HDMI cable; such as JVC KS-U61 MHL/HDMI cable (105KSU61, sold separately). This type of connection also requires Bluetooth pairing and installation of the JVC Smartphone Control App from Google Play (radio also requires a firmware update). Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KW-V350BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality with Signal to Noise ratio up to 94dB.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KW-V350BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KW-V350BT are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

6ch/4V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The KW-V350BT is equipped with 6ch/4.0V preamp outputs (Front, Rear, Subwoofer). The front and rear preamp outputs allow fader control, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.  You can adjust the KW-V350BT's subwoofer output level (-50 to +10) independently from the head unit's main volume control for added bass volume. You can also adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).

Built-in Crossovers: The JVC KW-V350BT features a built-in high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear speakers, and a low-pass filter for the unit's subwoofer output.

    • High-Pass Filter: You can activate a variable high-pass filter (40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, 220 Hz or Through) for the unit's front & rear channels (speaker- or preamp-level), so low frequency signals are cut off from your system's front & rear speakers. The front & rear channel's high-pass filters can be set independently of one another.
    • Low-Pass Filter: The unit's subwoofer preamp output features a low-pass filter. In order to prevent high-frequencies from being sent to your system's subwoofers, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter to 50, 60, 80, 100, 120 Hz or Through.

Speaker Select: You can select which type & size of speaker you have connected to the head unit. Choose from Standard (OEM/Factory), Narrow (4"/5"), Middle (6"/5x7"/6x8"), Wide (6x9").

Pro EQ: The KW-V350BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Vibrant, and User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Tone
    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 150 Hz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 kHz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) 1.0, 2.0
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) Fixed

Sound Extras: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.

    • Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set the Loudness to On or Off.
    • Dynamic Range Compression: This function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a setting of On (reduced dynamic range), Dialogue (clearer movie dialogue), or Off (full dynamic range).
    • Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -15 to +6.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    AV Connections

Dual A/V Inputs: The JVC KW-V350BT DVD receiver is fitted with two minijack (3.5mm) audio/video inputs. The unit features a front-panel 3.5mm audio/video input for connecting a temporary external A/V source, portable game system or MP3 player. The head unit also features a rear-panel 3.5mm AV input for connecting a permanent external A/V source, such as a Blu-ray player, gaming console, or mobile ATSC tuner.

HDMI/MHL Input: In addition to Apps mode for iPhone and Android, the head unit's HDMI/MHL input can be used to connect almost any external mobile AV source with an HDMI output; such as a TV tuner, Blu-ray player, or game system. The HDMI input will provide video and audio playback. Your vehicle's parking brake will need to be engaged to view video on the receiver's screen. Playback functions will need to be controlled from your HDMI-connected device.

Camera In: The rear-panel Camera input consists of a composite video connector which allows you to connect an optional rear-view camera (105KVCM20, sold separately). The unit features a reverse gear signal wire, that when connected to your vehicle's reverse light circuit, will automatically switch the KW-V350BT's display to the rear-view camera input. Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.5 seconds. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

A/V Output (with Dual Zone):  The unit features a rear-panel composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output A/V signals to an optional monitor and headphone system in the rear of your vehicle. You can select Disc or AV-IN as the rear-panel source; or your can simply have the rear AV output mirror the head unit's selected front source. The volume of the A/V output will be controlled by your rear entertainment system. You can select between a 16:9, 4:3 LB, or 4:3 PS Aspect Ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected monitor.

    Remote Control

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

IR Remote: The JVC KW-V350BT includes an IR remote control for wireless operation of the DVD receiver and connected devices (such as Bluetooth, iPod/iPhone, and USB).

My 2007 Dodge Ram came with factory satellite radio, do I still need to purchase a separate satellite tuner?

You will need to purchase a new tuner. We don't have a way of keeping a factory one working with an aftermarket radio.

You need the HDMI and lightning adapter to use the unit with app mode and your iphone. You can use bluetooth for playing audio without that cable; including the use of the IPOD music player.

I have Droid Turbo Nylon Ballistic phone with the Waze app. Can I listen to IPod music on the V30BT while the Waze map & verbal warnings will come through the receiver? If not iPod any other source?

I just set this up last night and to my disappointment to hear and see the waze app you have to be on HDMI if you are on HDMI you can't listen to the radio tuner you have to be turned to tuner. However your phone will mirror everything you are doing on hdmi so if you have waze up and your audio books on your phone it will just mirror what ever is coming out of your phone.
    seth l  Jan 03, 2016

It appears the Droid Turbo Nylon Ballistic is not MHL compatible and this receiver won't be able to mirror it. If you were to get a MHL compatible phone, then you will be able to display your phone on this receiver while listening to audio from an iPod or some other source.

from my experience, you can't use two inputs at once; i.e., if plugged in as usb connection to deck, it will not pick up another device via Bluetooth. but if you have maps running on the phone as well as music app you will hear the spoken map instructions through the speakers. installed unit in 2003 Tacoma and use with iPhone 6. pretty awesome for the price

With iPhone, this worked. Music playing through Bluetooth or USB, Waze warnings and directions came through. If connected but listening to terrestrial radio, Waze warnings do not play through Head Unit. Can't speak to android products, but since this HU is not really targeted to iPhone (which is why I'm returning it), I would assume android results would be at least as capable.

Can you use the apps (Waze, Google Maps) while driving?

I haven't been able to get the radio to turn on so far
    damien  Dec 04, 2015
    A
I only just installed it and am learning all the device features, but the short answer is that it depends on what you mean by "use". The navigation apps can be viewed on the screen, but this is just mirroring. For safety, you cannot change any map settings (e.g. destination, zoom, re-center) through the receiver while driving. This can be done through the phone and the screen is just mirrored to the receiver. Pandora has an app built into the receiver, which allows you to control the music while driving using the touch screen (e.g. thumbs up/down, next track, change station). I don't know if it's possible to install other apps into the receiver (like maps) so that you can control them without needed to touch your phone.

I am not sure about Waze, but I would assume so. I use Google Maps. It comes up on the screen full size. I am not sure if the touchscreen on the radio operates the map, I have only used the phone to pull up the app and get it started.

Steering wheel controls and Bluetooth work without issue, but you have to get the additional pieces necessary. I'm running this setup in a 14 Mustang GT with Sync. It was a little bit of a nightmare to wire everything up. But once together no issues or problems, I'm running an iphone with mine.

Yes you can. I installed an Audiovox Bullet camera and it works great. It doesn't come on the screen when you put the truck in reverse like OEM. I put the camera power source to 12V switched and can just hit the Rear Camera icon on the screen and it comes on instantly.

Can I mirror Google Maps with a Samsung Galaxy S5 to this deck?

I have note S4, and was able to mirror all my apps, and access them on my deck. Only problem was any I used the Samsung hdmi adapter from best buy. Try the link cable from crutchfield, would be easier. I set my system up to use Apple TV, and a external computer for experiment applications, still working on it.

Yes you can I have both of these. You will need a 11 to 5 adapter by samsung for the galaxy phones. you need to by the official samsung one I have read the cheaper ones will not work right for this.

Here is what is in the specs. The Samsung S5 is on the list. I have a HTC One M8 and the mirroring was working, but has stopped because of a ATT update. I am trying to get the issue resolved now because the mirroring is a great feature. Android Connectivity: The head unit's HDMI port is MHL compatible; this means you can simply connect your MHL-compatible Android smartphone to the receiver via a MHL-to-HDMI cable; such as JVC KS-U61 MHL/HDMI cable (105KSU61, sold separately). This type of connection also requires Bluetooth pairing and installation of the JVC Smartphone Control App from Google Play (radio also requires a firmware update). Compatible Android smartphones include Samsung Galaxy *S3/S4/S5, *Samsung Galaxy Note II/III/IV, Sony Xperia Z/Z1/ZR/ZL, and HTC One (all with OS 4.1+). *The Samsung Galaxy S3/S4/S5 and Note II/III/IV requires an additional 3rd party MHL microUSB 5-pin to 11-pin adapter (sold separately). The HDMI connector provides audio/video playback and charging of your Android smartphone's battery, while the Bluetooth connection is needed for touchscreen control.

Yes you can, use the Samsung mhl adapter. You can only control through your phone, the radio has no control.

Not completely. The Bluetooth and Voice command work but not the MHL Connection. I purchased the cable and found out my Galaxy S6 Edge is not compatible. All the cable does now is charge the battery on the phone.

I can't think of one reason why it wouldn't be. If your phone has bluetooth and mhl then it will work with this stereo. Any phone with those features will.

This has nothing to do with Crutchfield they are very good to me i just waited to long to install it n i would go sony or clarion maybe ive been a JVC buyer before and happy but this unit can not reply fast enough when choosing different options it may take 2 mins to change from one CHOICE of operation. No. I only use one Bluetooth device (Android phone for music and calls), and it works flawlessly. However, when I've tried to connect something else...I must go into the settings and connect to it manually. It's unfortunate because this is an otherwise great head unit with some awesome features.

It is active only when unit is on. It would only charge my android or iPhone if not using any apps or not mirroring display onto unit. If I am using waze or pandora, both phone still discharge, just at a slower pace. I drive a lot for work and would be hard pressed to get 5-6 hours of continuous use with rear usb while running waze and pandora and mirroring display on head unit (reason I bought this receiver). My recommendation as a workaround is to leave usb accessible but not for charging. Keeping usb accessible will allow easy firmware updates with a usb flash drive. Just use a car charger and plug into either the MHL adapter or iPhone hdmi adapter. It is not as streamlined, but charges devices while running multiple apps such as waze and pandora. Just did a 9 hour drive, no issues with this setup using both waze, pandora, multiple phone calls, emails and mirroring display the entire time. Hope this helps!

I can speak only from my own experience. It does not charge my iPhone 6 when I connect it through the lightning-to-HDMI adapter into the unit. I don't know if it would charge directly, without the adapter, as I don't remember ever trying. If I can remember to do so when next I am in the truck, I will make note of the result and pass it on.

I am having issues with getting the aps to work through my Galaxy S-4. I updated the software on the head unit, changed the APP Connection Setup to android HDMI I MHL + Bluetooth, purchased the proper HDMI cable (KS-U61), purchased the 5-11 pin adapter (actually 3 different ones) and downloaded the JVC app to the phone. When I plug it in the phone says HDMI connected. I select apps on the head unit and get a gray screen, I then select calibrate screen on the app. The head unit says connecting then goes gray and nothing ever displays. I can use the same cables to connect to my TV so the cables and the 5-11 pin adapter are good. Any ideas?

I called JVC and they told me that the apps only worked with an iPhone. I asked a similar question after I installed mine. They said only the apps on my phone would work with the unit. I have to say that I'm disappointed. You may try calling JVC to verify. I'll like to hear if anything has changed.

I had a similar problem then found out that the 5-11 pin connector was not fitting exactly right because I had a protective case on my Galaxy S4. I shaved off some of the plastic from the connector and it has been working fine ever since.

I got it to work only by pushing the display button under the volume knob. After that it would let me calibrate and use touch screen on the unit. Start by using tuner then plug phone in. Then push display and your phone screen should be mirrored. Some apps will not work if car is moving. Also you may need to update the firmware. I did on mine. It's easy if you use a flash drive.

Reyna- I also have this stereo and a Galaxy S5. I struggled to get MHL to work before finding a step-by-step YouTube video. Go to YouTube and enter "Android Connection to JVC KW V30BT and KW V50BT" into the YouTube search bar. (Crutchfield doesn't allow me to give you a direct link). I was able to get MHL to work by following the instructions in the video EXACTLY. Prior to that I could only get video and audio, but no touchscreen control back to my phone. Be advised that even though it "works" it still leaves things to be desired. Hopefully this will be improved with future firmware and software updates.

Your phone needs to support a video out. These phones are are typically labeled MHL or Slimport support. You will need the MHL/Slimport adapter to plug into the units HDMI port. From there you will you be able to mirror your phone onto the head unit. You will need an MHL compatible device if you want to be able control your phone from the stereo's touch screen.

    lacey  Nov 24, 2014

First, make sure you have the updated application firmware. Mine came with version 1.1 and had to update it to 1.2. Information for this procedure is listed in the user manual. You will need a computer with an Internet connection and a USB thumb drive. Also, make sure you have the phone connected to the unit correctly. this information is also in the manual. If I remeber correctly, the phone requires more than a USB connection. For example, I have an iPhone with a lightning connector. I had to use the apple hdmi to lightning connector and connect an hdmi cable from the unit to that connector as well as the UBS to lightning connector. Then plug that into my phone. Also, check the JVC website for a list of compatible apps. I hope this helps. tl;dr check the manual. All the info is there.
