About the Polk Audio 255c-LS
Answer to the center channel challenge
Answer to the center channel challenge
The center channel speaker is critical in any home theater system, yet it can be the hardest to place. Do you put it below the TV, or get a shelf for it, or what? The in-wall Polk 255c-LS is a great solution.
Big sound, no footprint
This in-wall center channel speaker is built to perform. Potent 5-1/4" woofers work with Polk's PowerPort® bass venting technology to deliver punchy lows. A 1" ring-radiator tweeter extends high-frequency response for incredible details and realistic imaging. You'll hear every breath of dialogue and every note of music. All of this from a center channel speaker that's out of sight, in more ways than one.
Sound-shaping controls
A wall distance toggle switch lets you compensate for boominess due to installation near a side wall. You also get a tweeter attenuation switch to help you get balanced sound in rooms with lots of reflective surfaces.
Bring the family
The Polk 255c-LS matches well with Polk's floor-standing and bookshelf speakers, and it can join in harmony with other members of the "Vanishing" LS speaker family. That means you can put together a system mixing custom-installed and more traditional "box" speakers.
An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the 255c-LS in-wall center channel speaker in a home with new construction.

Features
Dynamic Balance Technology: Laser-imaging technology allows Polk Audio engineers to see the entire vibrating surface of a driver and tweeter. This allows the engineers to actually see performance-robbing distortion develop on the speaker cone. Using this data, they can determine the Dynamic Balance of their high-tech materials, and alter the geometry and construction of the speaker to effectively tune out the offending resonance. Exclusive Dynamic Balance Composite Material Technology delivers sound that is effortlessly clean and clear, even at lifelike volume levels.
- Ring Radiator Tweeter: The 255c-LS employs a 1" Dynamic Balance ring radiator tweeter for detailed highs and superb imaging. This high-performance tweeter features a 15° swivel housing, for more direct high frequency control, excellent off-axis imaging and more placement flexibility.
- Dual Midranges: This Polk Audio Vanishing Series 255c-LS in-wall center-channel loudspeaker employs two 5-1/4" Dynamic Balance aerated polypropylene cone midrange drivers with rubber surrounds for a smooth, consistent frequency response. The aerated polypropylene cones are 20% lighter than conventional polypropylene, and 35% lighter than aluminum, to give you clear midrange, punchy bass, and high efficiency. Polk Audio's patented Dynamic Balance technology eliminates unwanted resonances.
Note: The overall frequency response of the in-wall center-channel loudspeaker is 30Hz to 33kHz, and the -3dB frequency response is 44 to 29kHz.
Reflective Room Compensation Control: The Reflective Room Compensation Switch, conveniently located on the front panel, allows you to digitally compensate for harsh reflective surfaces, such as smooth walls, glass windows, and hardwood floors. The filter doesn't merely reduce high frequencies, it simply cuts the level only in the 4-5kHz range where room acoustics most often interfere with performance. The switch is labeled "Tweeter" with two positions: out (normal) and in (filter).
Sheer-Grille: The 255c-LS features Polk Audio's exclusive wafer-thin Sheer-Grille, a magnetically-secured metal grille that protrudes only 7mm from its surroundings. The Sheer-Grille can be painted to match your décor, making it virtually indistinguishable from its surroundings. The Sheer-Grille has nearly transparent, ultra-small perforations, and is acoustically inert, for dynamic, unimpeded sound and more uniform coverage, even in larger rooms.
Gold-Plated Spring-Loaded Posts: The in-wall center-channel loudspeaker has a gold-plated pair of spring-loaded binding posts that can accept up to 12-gauge wire, single- or dual-banana plugs, or pin connectors.
Applications: You can use the Polk Audio Vanishing Series 255c-LS in-wall center-channel loudspeaker to complete a system of traditional loudspeakers or in-wall speakers, by adding an inconspicuous center-channel speaker.
Mounting & Placement Options: The in-wall center-channel speaker is designed to be installed above or below your flat-panel television. It should be installed as close to ear level as possible. If the speaker needs to be installed lower or higher than ear level, you should aim the tweeter accordingly. The Polk Audio in-wall center-channel loudspeaker utilizes a rotating cam system to ensure a secure, vibration-free installation. The 255c-LS has 6 rotating cams to hold the speaker in place. The cams can be tightened from the front panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

I've had both the Bose 191 and the Klipsch center speaker. In personally feel this speaker sounds better than both of those, and the bass is surprising good for an open air speaker.
