About the Polk Audio 265-LS

Polk's high-performance 3-way in-wall speaker

Polk Audio's 265-LS may be part of their Vanishing series, but one listen and you'll know this in-wall speaker is no "wall flower." The 265-LS offers stellar sound in an inconspicuous design that hides in your wall. Whether you're using this speaker as the basis for a stealth home theater, or a pair for stereo listening, its performance rivals that of Polk's flagship free-standing models. In fact, you can put together a system mixing this in-wall speaker with more traditional floor-standing or bookshelf models — whatever suits your room and your decorating sense best.

Advanced technology for better sound

The 265-LS begins with dual 6-1/2" Dynamic Balance drivers, which deliver clear, accurate mids and dynamic lows. Polk's PowerPort® bass venting system reinforces the bottom end for clean, punchy bass. The 265-LS uses Polk's own advanced version of the classic "ring radiator" tweeter for smooth, detailed highs. A wall distance toggle switch lets you compensate for boominess due to installation near a side wall. You also get a tweeter attenuation switch to help you get balanced sound in rooms with lots of reflective surfaces.  Finish off by painting the magnetic Sheer-Grille™ to match your wall color, and the 265-LS is ready for showtime.

An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the 265-LS in-wall speaker in a home with new construction.

Features

Vanishing Series In-Wall Speakers: The Polk Audio Vanishing Series in-wall loudspeakers feature a precision-engineered, minimally flanged design and Polk's exclusive Sheer-Grille, which protrudes only 7mm from its surroundings. Installing virtually flush in your wall, the Polk Audio Vanishing Series in-wall loudspeakers offer a one-cut, drop-in installation and rotating cam stabilizing system. The Vanishing LS series in-wall speakers are timbre-matched to Polk Audio's flagship LSi and LSiM series loudspeakers for seamless blending from speaker to speaker when you're building a speaker system.

Note: The overall frequency response of the in-wall loudspeaker is 28Hz to 33kHz, and the -3dB frequency response is 41 to 29kHz.

Dual 6-1/2" Drivers: This Polk Audio Vanishing Series 265-LS in-wall 3-way loudspeaker employs a 6-1/2" Dynamic Balance aerated polypropylene cone midrange driver, and 6-1/2" Dynamic Balance aerated polypropylene woofer, both with rubber surrounds, for a smooth, consistent frequency response. The aerated polypropylene cones are 20% lighter than conventional polypropylene, and 35% lighter than aluminum, to give you clear midrange, punchy bass, and high efficiency. Polk Audio's patented Dynamic Balance technology eliminates unwanted resonances.

Ring Radiator Tweeter: The 265-LS employs a 1" Dynamic Balance ring radiator tweeter for detailed highs and superb imaging. This high-performance tweeter features a 15° swivel housing, for more direct high frequency control, excellent off-axis imaging and more placement flexibility.

Reflective Room Compensation Control: The Reflective Room Compensation Switch, conveniently located on the front panel, allows you to digitally compensate for harsh reflective surfaces, such as smooth walls, glass windows, and hardwood floors. The filter doesn't merely reduce high frequencies, it simply cuts the level only in the 4-5kHz range where room acoustics most often interfere with performance. The switch is labeled "Tweeter" with two positions: out (normal) and in (filter).

Wall Distance Toggle Switch: If you mount your in-wall loudspeakers closer than 2 feet from a side wall, the proximity of the surface can elevate the midbass response between 50 and 200Hz, causing a boomy sound. To compensate, the 265-LS is equipped with the Vanishing Wall Distance Toggle switch, located on the front panel. The filter adjusts the crossover to flatten the response, and tune out the boominess, without sacrificing the deep bass response of the speaker. The switch is labeled "Wall Dist." with two positions: in (<2' ) and out (>2').

PowerPort: The 265-LS features Polk's PowerPort bass venting, a patented port design that enhances the speaker's bass response while eliminating noise caused by the moving air turbulence. The provided foam rubber port plug should be used if you are installing the 265-LS in an area larger than a standard open stud bay.

Sheer-Grille: The 265-LS features Polk Audio's exclusive wafer-thin Sheer-Grille, a magnetically-secured metal grille that protrudes only 7mm from its surroundings. The Sheer-Grille can be painted to match your décor, making it virtually indistinguishable from its surroundings. The Sheer-Grille has nearly transparent, ultra-small perforations, and is acoustically inert, for dynamic, unimpeded sound and more uniform coverage, even in larger rooms. The grille's dimensions are 8-7/8" x 20-7/8".

Gold-Plated Spring-Loaded Posts: The in-wall loudspeaker has a gold-plated pair of spring-loaded binding posts that can accept up to 12-gauge wire, single- or dual-banana plugs, or pin connectors

Application & Mounting Options: You can use the Polk Audio Vanishing Series 265-LS in-wall loudspeaker as the basis for a stealth home theater, or a hidden two-channel stereo pair. The Polk Audio in-wall loudspeaker utilizes a rotating cam system to ensure a secure, vibration-free installation. The 265-LS has 8 rotating cams to hold the speaker in place. The cams can be tightened from the front panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver. In existing walls, use the included cardboard template for one-cut, drop-in simplicity. Achieve secure, vibration-free efficiency with a simple turn of Polk's Rotating Cam system (8 rotating cams).

Customer Q&A

Q
What free standing center channel (not in-wall) would work best with these? I'm interested in great overall sound, but require clear dialogue. I'm ok with a different brand to get better dialogue and great sound. I currently have A Polk LSiM704c center channel. Thank you.

A
With a traditional box-style center channel for your setup I would stick with Polk Audio for the best possible results, R.C. The LSi M 704C is a good center with a fantastic true 3-way design, but we can upgrade with a modern model that can crispen up the dialog with an extended frequency response, especially in the high-frequency range. I would use the Polk Audio Signature Elite ES35 in the link below. This has six 3" drivers for great vocal presence and is the closest match sensitivity wise to the 265-LS, so it should blend well in your system if you need to use a traditional center channel! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_107ES35BK/Polk-Audio-Signature-Elite-ES35-Black.html

Q
Would these be recommended for left, right as well as a center channel speaker?
michael  Sep 27, 2022

A
These fantastic Polk Audio 265-LS In-wall speakers are perfect for your left and right stereo mains in a home theater setup, Michael. For a matching center channel you will want to use the Polk Audio 255c-ls In-wall speaker in the link below, made specifically for center channel. These can pair with practically any Polk in wall or in ceiling surround for a fantastic, voice matched setup. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_107255CLS/Polk-Audio-255c-LS.html

Q
Can you please offer powering advice?Trying to match these with a Yamaha TSR7850 and I am unsure about powering them properly. They say they handle up to 200 watts, and the maximum power output of the Yamaha is not that high. It states the rated output power is either 95 or 110 depending on the frequency. However they also list maximum and dynamic power rates, my head is spinning. Any advice would be great, thank you.

Q
how do you connect this speaker?
john  Jun 19, 2019

A
There are two spring loaded gold plated terminals in the back. You strip the speaker wire back about 5/8", push the terminal down, insert the wire, and let the terminal go to clamp the wire. Do that for both positive and negative and your done.
heath  Jun 21, 2019
A
You need to have in wall speaker wires already installed. I used banana plugs, but you can also connect speaker wires directly to the speakers.
charles  Jun 19, 2019
A
The speaker connection ports are in the back

Q
Did you set these as "large" speakers?
michael  Nov 02, 2018
4 answers
A
Yes I did. I installed them in the wall on each side of my 60" Flat Screen TV. I also installed the 255c-LS under the TV for the center channel. The system was mounted above the gas log fireplace. I also installed a pair of RC80i speakers on the ceiling at the back of the room for surround sound. The system is also supported by a sub-woofer. This is installed in a very open living room setting with a vaulted ceiling, and it sounds terrific!
jerry  Nov 06, 2018
A
Yes. They are set up as full range speakers(large). Using then as surround speakers with Lsim707s. Sounds great for home theater.
mark  Nov 02, 2018
A
No. I set them as small and used a powered subwoofer.

Hi Michael, I'm using the Polk 265 LS's as a left and right paired with a Martin Logan subwoofer. I'm powering everything with a Marantz SR5013 reciever and couldn't be happier. They sound very good!

Q
Is this speaker meant to be installed vertically or horizontally (most studs are 18" apart)?
matt  Dec 21, 2016
6 answers
A
vertical installation is much better
j  Dec 22, 2016
A
I just installed a pair of the 265 LS speakers on my living room wall. Because of the dimension of them, it was quite obvious that they needed to be installed vertically in between the wall studs. If you installed them horizontally you would need to cut out a section of a stud, which would compromise the integrity of the wall. By the way, I also installed a 255C LS in the wall as the center channel. Wow, what a great match!
jerry  Dec 22, 2016
A
Vertically. The center channel of this same like mounts horizontally.
john paul  Dec 22, 2016
A
Typically the center channel is meant to be installed the wide way across. The cut out for the width is only 13 1/8" so it will still fit in between your studs.
joel j  Dec 21, 2016
A
I installed the speakers vertically (that is long dimension up and down, narrow dimension right to left). Had no problem.
raymond j  Dec 21, 2016
A
Vertically, this is too wide for a standard wall stud that is 16 inches on center.
james  Dec 21, 2016
Q
What would be the best yet affordable av receiver to pair up these speakers to my surround sound?
anthony  Oct 28, 2016

A
I currently have the Onkyo TX-NR646 (I believe the new model is the TX-NR656) and have been very pleased witht the overall performance with these speakers.
james  Oct 28, 2016
Q
how is the base response if 2 pairs are installed into a motor coach listening to classic rock and rap would i need a sub ?
tom  Mar 29, 2014
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: In a motor coach, these will provide plenty of bass for you. It would not be necessary to add a subwoofer unless you wanted an overpowering, very loud type of bass. The low-end response on these speakers is outstanding. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
