Put great Polk performance to work wherever you want it. The Atrium 45 offers great sound, thanks to its 3/4" dome tweeter and 4-1/2" Dynamic Balance woofer. And the rugged, weatherproof design meets or exceeds stringent military specifications for full exposure to the elements. That means you'll get years of great sound from these speakers, wherever you put them.

The included mounting brackets add complete placement flexibility. They also allow you to rotate the speakers by 90º after they've been mounted, letting you direct the sound to different areas as needed. The Atrium 45s are also voice-matched to Polk's RTi speakers, and therefore make great surrounds in a complete Polk home theater system.

Too Bad They're Discontinued

Written By Tracy, Sandston, VA. on Friday, August 20, 2010

I have a set of the Atrium 45's hooked up under our back patio and they sound incredible.
IMO there is no loss of highs or lows for being outdoors and actually the lows are pretty
impressive for a speaker of this size, very clear and pronounced. I'm only powering them
with a JVC 20 watt car HU so take into consideration they're 8ohm speakers and I'm losing a
bit of power but they still sound incredible.
Of course the only place I would purchase them is from my friends here at Crutchfield.

Decent Outdoor Speakers

Written By DougMac, Middle Georgia on Sunday, August 08, 2010

I bought these for our pre-wired screened in porch. Mounting was a cinch, 2 #10 screws for each bracket, then banana plugs into the outlets I installed when we built the house. It took maybe 15 minutes, including getting the ladder.

The sound is decent for outdoor speakers with good smooth highs and better than expected bass. The speakers are in a relatively small plastic enclosure and get pretty boxy sounding if there's a lot of mid bass. It's just the nature of the beast.

If you're used to high quality speakers, the limitations of these speakers will be glaringly obvious. At the price point and as used as background music for parties, they are a good deal. Crutchfield service was excellent, the order process was smooth and they shipped out fast. I'd give them another point if they weren't so boxy sounding in certain conditions.

Definite Upgrade

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Hail damage trashed my Posh deck speakers, and after listening to a variety of brands at a local shop I chose these. They sounded better than ones costing twice as much! Rich bass outdoors is a blast, and the military-spec design gives me confidence for the next storm. Crutchfield service and support just seals the deal!

Great Value

Very quick shipping. Great speakers for the money. I'm using them on my pool deck and I am able to get a quality sound all over the backyard.

Great sounding speakers!

Polk Atrium 45

I bought these for my husband as a Father's Day gift- he was thrilled to open them up. The hard part was fishing the exterior walls for wiring, that is a given. Once he had the wiring in place it was a cinch to attach the speakers and turn up the volume. They sound great! We have them under the eves, horizontally mounted, rotated slightly downward. They sound great sitting on the deck and way out into our back yard. We have almost no trees around and are surrounded by hay fields. Very happy with them at this point. Neighbors have not complained yet. We hope they withstand the test of time & weather as well as they sound.

These speakers sound so good, I bought 2 pairs. After researching the internet, I returned a set to a local store due to price. I decided on the second set when I saw Crutchfield's price. I installed one set for my rear surround and the other as an outdoor set. These sound just as clear as the old bookshelf's. I even look to purchase a Polk center channel and woofer to complete the set-up.

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We recently added a sunroom on to our home and wanted to be able to pipe music into the room from an amplifier in different room. We purchased the Polk Atrium 45 speakers in white to blend in w/the light colored walls. My husband found them easy to install. They look great on the wall and the fact that they swivel is a very nice feature so one can aim them the direction of choice. For our needs, in a 240sq foot room with a slightly pitched ceiling, they seem to be just perfect. The sound quality is great with enough base and treble to make most all music sound fantastic. We have had them a couple wks and have enjoyed using them every day. We look forward to many years of service from them. If you need speakers for a similar situation --you won't be disappointed w/these Polk speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed these in my covered patio area, hoping that they would project sound to my uncovered area (15-18 feet away). They sound great in both places. I like to hear smooth jazz, new big band sound (ie. Michael Buble') and my wife likes new country. These sound good for all of them with enough bass to satisfy my listening expectations. (I run these on my Denon AVR 2808CI.)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm absolutely delighted! I mounted these speakers outside by our pool just underneath the porch roof. The sound is so much better than I expected. I'm the dedicated music lover in my household and I can tell you that these speakers deliver a very clean, crisp, and clear sound. Much of the listening I do out there in the pool area is of satellite radio but I did notice that when I play CD's the sound quality is even better. I couldn't be happier. For the money, I believe this was a very good investment!

These came as a part of a Sonos Bundle so I welcomed them. Overall, I am not impressed. Not very full sound. I have tried making as many adjustments as I can and they just sound OK. I don't dislike them enough not to use them and it is nice that they are outdoor speakers, just not overly impressed.

Polk Sound in a Small Package

Written By Larry, Cincinnati, OH on Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polk Atrium 45's are speakers #12 & #13 for our family. We love the sound of all our Polk Speakers! I originally wanted to place these outside on our deck, but decided to put them up in one of our small rooms in the basement using Zone 2 on my Yamaha AVR. The mounting bracket is perfect and allows for many mounting options. These speakers sound wonderful and look very smart. They easily could be used in a 7.1 system as the back surrounds, on the deck or around the hot tub! As always, Polk gives you a warm, inviting sound with all their products. The 45's have a very good bang for your hard earned buck!

Just a note on Crutchfield, I ordered a complete 7.0 Polk surround system about two days before the Atrium 45s promotion. I am also on their e-mail list for new items and promotions. I received their e-mail and noticed that I was still within their 30-day price protection. I sent an e-mail to Crutchfield and two days later I had my free Atrium 45s! This company really takes care of their customers and they can count on me as a lifetime customer!

Great speakers at a decent price

Written By cristian, Cincinnati, OH on Wednesday, September 19, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers exceeded my expectations. I was worried that bass response would not be sufficient (small speakers, mounted outdoors), but these speakers have a LOT of punch and good bass! I have larger speakers in my house that deliver less bass, so I could not be happier about these.

Mid and highs were good, although I never had a concern in that area.

My only pet peeve is that they can either be mounted for horizontal swivel, or vertical swivel, but you cannot have both. That is quite common for outdor speakers though.

Price was 'OK', but definitely not a bargain. Well worth what I paid, and I would recommend these.

No Hi and no mid range

Written By DALE, Lafayette, LA on Tuesday, August 21, 2007

These speakers do not sound good. After I hooked them up, they had muffled mid and hi response. Bass tones were good. When compared against one 10 year old speaker, they did not sound good. When listening to jazz the horn was muted and the cymbols sounded more like static. I do not recomend these speakers and will return them ASAP

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great!!!

Speakers sounded ok until I put them on the corner of the house near the chimney, and then they sounded incredible. If you can put them in a corner or under the eaves it really changes the sound. (Bass improves dramatically)

Great for surrounds

Written By WayneC, Tampa, FL on Wednesday, February 07, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got these speakers for rear surrounds in my 5.1 HT setup. Couldn't use rears on stands because of the layout of the room and needed speakers I could mount on the ceiling and aim to the seating area. The wife had one request, the speakers had to be white, and could not be ugly. Got these to satisfy her request, but was also hoping that I'd get at least decent sound out of them as well. Was I ever suprised how great these sounded. Very clear, good imaging, treble not overly bright, and very sweet mids. The only tiny weakness that these speakers have is that they don't go very deep into the low freq's... but... I had no expectations that they would, but they go as low as they need to. If I was putting them out on my patio, I might get the atrium55's for a little lower extension, but for rear surrounds on the ceiling they're absolutely perfect. They're also voiced very similar to my B&W fronts/center which was also a pleasant suprise.

Absolutely no complaints

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had these installed at two different houses and have been amazed by the sound provided at both locations. If you can mount them under eaves I would strongly suggest it as this helps with the base - particularly at a distance. Mine are mounted approximately 25 feet apart about 6 inches beneath the eaves one vertical, one horizontal. Our backyard is approximately 80 feet by 30 feet and these two absolutely fill it up. I am driving these with multiroom output on a Marantz 8300 receiver (105 watts) and they sound incredible. I've had these since 2004 and they are still going strong. I listen to a variety of music and have not been disappointed. Willie Nelson's voice sounds as good as ever and the intro to Crazy Train is equally impressive. The rating (10-100 watts) is dead on - neighbors will pay a visit before you lose any sound quality. If you have receiver that is geared for that range I think these are a can't miss. If you need more than this outside, you're obnoxious.

Atrium 45

Written By brad, Ohio on Monday, November 27, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use a pair of these outside (used to be completely exposed to the elements, now under roof), and a pair as my back surround channel in a 7.1 setup. Completely satisfied. Definitely hold up to the elements - these things would play underwater. Powering with 100 W/ch Yamaha; I get great sound from these speakers. Bass is good for a speaker with a 4.5" woofer, and I think it's more than adequate for the applications I use them for. The sound is true to the Polk likeliness, which I am very partial to - soft, not tinny, highs, and smooth midrange.

Atrium 45's

Written By harry, Atlanta on Monday, June 26, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In this price range and for this size of speaker the Atriums can't be beat.

I have them pointed directly at the listening area at ear level about 8 feet apart. Powered by a 60watt amp. The imaging is unbelievable, very non directional. Clear clean sound. Exceeded my expectations. As with any speakers, placement is very important. These speakers do what they are designed to do VERY well.

Would make great home theatre satelites in a small to medium size room.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I now have 3 sets of these speakers. For the price, they are the best outdoor speakers I have found. The sound is great and they can really take a beating. Skip past the more expensive speakers- high price ≠ high quality. You will not regret buying these.

Written By Tom, NJ on Sunday, May 01, 2005

Not being able to really compare outdoor speakers as these are the first ones that I've gotten, I am absolutely amazed at how well they sound. I figured by placing them outside they would sound hollow and distorted, but not at all so. They sound absolutely awesome, and they can take a whole lot of volume. They have a metal grill on the front which makes it awesome for outdoor placement. They are a little on the heavy side though, but for the sound that you get it's amazing. The one thing they lack a little (which is no surprise whatsoever with outdoor speakers) is bass. Don't expect to get subwoofer bass with these, but you definitley will not be dissappointed either.

Weatherproof: The rugged, mineral-filled polypropylene enclosures not only feature rust-proof hardware and grilles, but also meet or exceed stringent military specifications for full exposure to the elements. Unlike many other "outdoor" speakers that require sheltered locations, the Atrium45 speakers can be mounted anywhere, even out in the open.

Woofers: Each speaker uses a mineral-filled polypropylene Dynamic Balance woofer for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Tweeters: Each speaker has a 3/4" metallized Polymer composite dome tweeter. The tweeters broadly distribute high frequencies to cover a large area with high-fidelity sound.

Mounting Brackets: The included mounting brackets add complete placement flexibility. They allow you to rotate the speakers by 90 degrees after they've been mounted, letting you direct the sound to different areas as needed. If the speakers are mounted vertically, the brackets allow them to swivel side to side. If the speakers are mounted horizontally, the brackets allow them to swivel up and down.

5-Way Binding Posts: The gold-plated 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.
