Features

Weatherproof Design: Polk Audio All-Weather Certified, Atrium Series speakers exceed baseline industrial and military specifications for environmental endurance (ASTM D5894-UV Salt Fog, Mil Standard 810 Immersion, Mil-Std 883 Method 1009.8 for salt and corrosion.) Certification means Atrium speakers can effortlessly withstand the outdoors, and hold up in extreme temperatures and precipitation.

Polk Patented Technologies: Patented Dynamic Balance and Klippel Optimization technologies ensure the perfect material performance, eliminating driver and tweeter "artifacts" for more realistic sound reproduction at high and low volume levels.

  • Dynamic Balance: A Polk perfected method of analyzing a speaker's microscopic behavior with laser Interferometry. Polk engineers can tune out unwanted resonance and distortion with the right combination of materials, geometry and construction techniques. This brings you pure, distortion-free sound.
  • Klippel Optimization: By using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension bringing you the best possible performance even at extreme listening levels.

2-Way Driver Design: Each speaker features a 1" anodized aluminum dome tweeter with rubber surround and neodymium magnet for better power handling and smoother response. Each speaker also features a 5 1/4" long-throw aerated polypropylene cone driver for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Rugged Enclosure Design: The durable, mineral-filled polypropylene cabinet design, with molded-in bracing, sounds like a real speaker (not "an outdoor speaker"), and survives years of seasonal changes, for great sound, no matter what the weather. The rugged, mineral-filled polypropylene enclosure features a rustproof aluminum grille, rustproof aluminum bracket, and stainless steel/brass hardware.

Note: The speakers are available in a black or white finish. The enclosure is also paintable.

Broad Coverage Baffle Design: The sculpted front, steeply-angled baffle design and rounded enclosure minimize diffraction (sound reflecting off of hard edges) for more open and lifelike imaging.

Binding Posts: The Atrium 6 has a pair of gold-plated 5-way binding posts that will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual).

Speed-Locking Mounting System: The included rustproof aluminum brackets allow multiple mounting options and are quick-and-easy to install. The Atrium 6 can be mounted either horizontally or vertically and aimed to deliver the best possible sound in a variety of situations The integrated brackets provide full 180-degree rotation (when mounted vertically or horizontally. The mounting brackets even allow the speaker to be mounted snugly in a corner or under an eve (at a downward 45-degree angle). You can remove the bracket and use the speaker's built-in stability feet, if you simply want to place the speaker on a table or shelf.

Q
What type of receiver I need to get for the Polk 6 speaker?

A
I bought an inexpensive receiver that has Bluetooth capabilities. I connected my phone Bluetooth to the receiver so I can play all music from my phone Pandora, SiriusXM, iTunes).
cynthia  Oct 21, 2020

I use a Sonos amp. It provides plenty of power to drive the speakers.
corrine  Oct 21, 2020
A
I don't think it matters as long as there's enough power to drive them. I used them with an Sonos Amp for the outside deck.

Q
Iâ??m trying to figure out what Polk speakers to put in my garage.. It is 1900 sq feet. Why is the Atrium 6 more expensive than the Atrium 8? What would be the best set up?? I would like to really Jam when the times come.2

A
Not sure this totally answers your question, but I have these outside and only drive them from an Onkyo receiver, and they can really kick out nice, clean sound that has a warmer note. Do yourself a favor and get an outdoor sub and an amp. for it. Crutchfield sells a great sub amp, the Monitor IWA-250, that pushes two channels if you want two subs. I only have one, outside, weighed down, about 30' from my porch and it vibrates the soffit on the house if I want

jerry  Apr 12, 2020

These speakers, (2 sets) were installed outside on an upper and lower deck. They're part of a whole house system which is driven by multiple Sonos Amps. The speakers sound great even as far back as 300'.

What are the cold weather ratings for these?

Use them all year round, so far so good. Have them mounted on a fence and keep them covered when not in use. Great sounding speakers!
david  Feb 13, 2020
A
While my pair of Atrium6 speakers are not outside my pair of Atrium8 were on my detached garage last winter during some brutally cold weather. They suffered not at all with windchill in excess of 30 below. In fact they sounded better this past summer which I assume is due to the hours of use.
kevin  Feb 13, 2020
A
Mmmnn, I don't know, but as far as outdoor speakers go, these are among the most durable. I have atrium4 atrium6 and def tech 5500 (same parent company) and all are good. Atrium4 if u are on a budget, atrium6 if you listen to mostly rock, def tech if you listen to mostly bassy music like hip hop and pop.

Can these speakers be used for indoors surround sound attached to the ceiling? Thank you.

I don't see why not. I have them outside under my outdoor kitchen. They sound good but lack in bass for my likiing. Looking into a sub woofer to kick it up a little
larry  Dec 12, 2020

Yes you can. they sound great for the small size they are.

Q
I have a huge back yard can you run more than 1 pair?
roy  Oct 17, 2020
3 answers
A
I have a huge backyard, about 1/2 acre, and then there is the river, and these are serious overkill! But they sound amazing! I doubt you need 2 pair. :-)
leslie  Oct 20, 2020
A
You can as many as you'd like if you have the appropriate equipment. I have a niles speaker selector with 6 pairs. I have 4 pairs hooked up. Two pairs cover my back yard, but it is small. Check what your receive can handle and get a speaker selector and you should be good.
john  Oct 17, 2020
A
Yes I have four installed around the pool , great speakers!
harry fairbanks  Oct 17, 2020
Q
Can I pair the Atrium 6 speakers with the Vail amp 3?
james  Jul 16, 2020
2 answers
A
Assuming you have speaker wires from the amp to speakers, yes they should work fine with the Vail amp 3.
thomas  Jul 16, 2020
A
Yes, they are efficient speakers that will provide a clear option for a later upgrade (amplifier), however, I also have the Atruim 5 series and they work very well.
james o.  Jul 16, 2020
Q
What would be the best speaker wire combination? 2 or 4 conductor and 14 or 16 gauge?
robert  Jul 19, 2019
1 answer
A
Either would be fine. If the speakers are some distance from the source, I would go with the thicker gauge. Likewise 2 conductor is fine. The speakers sound really nice.
william  Jul 28, 2019
Q
Can these be adjusted (tilted) up/down or just right/left?
keith  Dec 09, 2018
1 answer
A
Just left or right. I suppose you could mount them in any direction you wanted, but they only swivel right/left. They do sound good!
william  Dec 10, 2018
Q
Are the grill/screen and all metal brackets and other metals exposed made of stainless steel?

yes
joe  Apr 08, 2018
A
I purchase the White ones and the brackets are painted to match. No way to tell if they are stainless without removing the paint.
timothy p  Apr 07, 2018
A
Do not think so. I believe they are powder coated. Have had mine mounted outside for 3 years still in great shape
david  Apr 07, 2018
A
I don't believe it's stainless. Looks like powder coated steel. Mine have been outside for a year without any rust.
charles w  Apr 06, 2018
Q
Will the Atrium 6 fit in the Atrium 5 mounting bracket?
daves  Dec 12, 2017
1 answer
A
I don't think it will work. The Atrium 6 is over an inch taller than the 5. There is a slim possibility that you could spread the 5 bracket out a little to compensate for the additional height but that may not work (or may look bad). I'd recommend you contact Polk Customer Service. They should be able to help.
charles w  Dec 12, 2017
Q
Can this speaker be mounted on a fascia of a roof deck pointed up into space?
vik  May 28, 2017
2 answers
A
I would say the answer to your question is yes, although I'm not exactly clear on how you want to mount it. This speaker can mount multiple ways and has many adjustments for the angle you want the speaker facing.
josh l  May 29, 2017
A
If I understand your question correctly, the speaker grill will be face up and subjected to the weather. Although they're weather tight, I wouldn't do it. The rain, snow, ice will significantly shorten the life. You may want to touch base with a Polk rep and get their opinion. I leave mine out year but they're mounted on the fascia under an overhang and somewhat protected.
charles w  May 29, 2017
Q
I want to use these with an un-amplified audio source. What is a simple amplifier that could be paired with these and take full advantage of them? I am not looking for a full receiver with multiple inputs.

We use the SONOS Amp for ours. We love it! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_616ZP120/Sonos-CONNECT-AMP.html?tp=63339 I'm sure there are other options out there.
matthew  May 18, 2017
A
If you haven't tried Sonos, I highly recommend it. I am using the Atrium 6 with a Sonos Connect Amp. You can play music directly from your phone with the Sonos app. You can plug in any audio device; depending on the audio adapter cable you use. You can play off of any music library on your network. You can play off the multitude of streaming services on the Internet. I have four Polk Audio Atriums and plan to add four more. I love having music all over my back yard. By having multiple speakers, I don't have to play it too loud for me to enjoy without annoying my neighbors. The best part of the Sonos, is multiple devices can be playing anywhere you want! Sonos doesn't yet have outdoor speakers so this combination works well.
christopher m  May 17, 2017

I built a home last year and installed a variety of Polk speakers, with a variety of power supplies. I have three different exterior Atrium speaker pairs being powered by a single Russound P75 amp, and that works well. I use impedance matching volume controls to protect the amp. The P75 senses inputs and will turn on as needed.

Q
can these speakers be painted?
mike  Sep 02, 2016

Yes. The manual provides clear instructions how to paint and even how to remove the grills in order to do it.
michael  Sep 03, 2016

Mike, the manufacturer says yes; we did not based on advice of our painter. Leo
leo f  Sep 02, 2016

according to the manual, Yes, they can be painted, remove the grills first and paint while not installed on the speaker, as for body, obviously, do not paint the input posts,
