Anchor a high-impact Polk Monitor home theater speaker system with the CS1 center speaker. It features dual 5-1/4" Dynamic Balance® woofers and a 1" Dynamic Balance dome tweeter. The woofer cones are stiff and lightweight for rich sound and low distortion. They really excel in the midrange — an absolute must for reproducing clear on-screen dialogue. The non-resonant MDF construction ensures cleaner, more lifelike sound.

The CS1 is voice-matched to all the speakers in the Polk Monitor line. Team it up with the Monitor 50 or Monitor 60 tower speakers for an impressive front soundstage in a large-room home theater setup. Or match it to the Monitor 30 or Monitor 40 bookshelf models for convincing home theater in smaller rooms.

Your home theater's most important speaker

The center channel speaker is the workhorse in a home theater system. It has to reproduce clear dialogue and special effects that keep your eyes and ears glued to the movie action. A high-quality center speaker is a great investment for any surround sound setup. Try to choose one that's as closely matched as possible to your front right and left speakers, so that as sound moves across the front stage, it stays seamlessly realistic.

A nice center speaker with easy to connect terminals. The cherry finish is very nice. Sound is excellent. I have a Polk sub-woofer and in-wall speakers for some 8 years and I am very pleased with the quality.

This is a good center speaker. Works well with our other Polk products. It
is a little on the bulky side though. Price is good also.

Perfect Match for Monitor 40's

Written by: Stanley from Princeton, NJ on November 14, 2006

I recently bought the Polk Monitor 40's to retire my old S8's. I had a CS200 center channel which served me well (and would continue to if I didnt upgrade) for years. Once I upgraded to the Monitor 40s the CS200 didnt match as well as I liked. Adding the CS1 was the perfect solution, the front stages sounds perfect now. They are a greatly matched set and brings a nice warmness to the Dialog which wouldnt be low enough to trigger a sub but could make smaller centers sound empty. Definitely a good buy.

This would probably be alright for a lower end system, but when I put this with my Polk Monitor 70's, it sounded boxey and drew my attention away from the monitors. I was not totally satisfied, but is comparable to my JBL center speaker for the same price.

Big, Clunky - But Great Sound

Written by: GSMetal from Milwaukee, WI on December 25, 2005

I compared this unit to many center channel speakers. Originally I wanted to get the Bose low profile one but after hearing the Polk in a local store - I was sold on it.

It is physically large but it is handsome (I have the black finish) and the sound is crisp, clean and true.

Great unit - fair price and a nice value. If I had to do it all over again, I would still buy it.

Clear, full sound... good price

You will hear every word of every movie and TV show... promise. If you've never had a REALLY great center channel before, this will blow your mind! Well worth the money and just as good, if not a lot better, than the other more expensive centers I tested.
I really like that the bass port in the back keeps the sound of the CS1 from being just flat dialogue. It gives it a wonderfully round and realistic sound.
I've got my CS1 powered by the Onkyo TX-SR503 receiver and paired with Polk Monitor 30s (fronts), Polk R15s (rears) and a PSW10 Sub. This combo makes for a big theatre experience even in the most average of living rooms.

The size/profile of the CS1 is a bit "clunky" but I can totally forgive that because of the quality sound. Give it a day or so and you won't even notice the size any more.

If you are building a new HT on a budget (or not) put your money here... it's well worth it!

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Polymer Composite Woofers: The speaker features two lightweight, yet stiff Bi-Laminate composite woofers with good damping, giving you high efficiency, excellent bass, and low distortion. For high performance durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Silk/Polymer Tweeter: The speaker has a 1" fabric/polymer dome tweeter that provides clear, detailed highs. The tweeter uses a heat sink on the Neodymium magnet for superior heat dissipation, power handling and reliability.

Acoustically Inert Cabinet: The speaker cabinet features all-MDF construction with internal bracings that virtually eliminate sound-muddying resonance.

Reversible Design: If the speaker must be positioned below ear level, you can turn the cabinet upside down, allowing the drivers to fire upward.

Port: There is a single critically-tuned port opening on the rear of the speaker that has low port noise for increased and extended bass response.

5-Way Binding Posts: The gold-plated 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.

Magnetically Shielded: The speaker is magnetically shielded, allowing you to place it on your television without distorting the picture.

Frequency Response Note: The overall frequency response is 55Hz-25kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 65-24kHz.
