Polk's db1001 tweeters make music shimmer and shine with high-frequency detail. Mount these liquid-cooled 1" silk/polymer dome tweeters in a good spot in your vehicle, and listen as they brighten up vocals, instrumentals, and percussion, bringing out musical nuances you would otherwise miss.

The in-line crossover allows only the appropriate frequencies to pass to the tweeters, while built-in protection circuitry guards against tweeter overload. You can flush- or surface-mount the tweeters with the included mounting cups. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install these tweeters in the factory locations.

Polk tweeters

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very happy with the Pilk tweeters, they have good sound but did require a little work to attach them to the sound bar and dash. I ended up using the factory tweeters bracket by ripping out the guts of the factory tweeter and slidding the Polk tweeter inside the outer ring of the factory tweeter and using some epoxy to hold them in. But I give Crutchfield 5 stars because I have ever had better customer service!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They sound so much better than my factor tweeters. The only problem I had was they wouldn't fit behind my existing door sail tweeter housing so I mounted them on the outside of the house. What's nice is they fit perfectly in that spot. I did have to call crutchfield because I couldn't find a wiring diagram for the factor wiring. They (factory) used yellow and gray on one side but light and dark green on the other. In order to make the decibel level work for my system, I had to install the included crossover and then clip the wire for the -3db cut.

Pros: Sounds great, easy to install, and looks great.

Cons: I'm glad I didn't have to use the clip-behind metal mounting brackets because there was only one in the box. The Polk manual was worthless to me. It covered many speaker models but it was scattered and didn't help at all. They should have had a one-page quick install guide. Fortunately, with limited parts, it was easy to figure out.

Polk tweeters

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They really let you hear all the stuff you are missing when compared to factory speakers. This is the second set I installed. This is paired with 4 Polk Db 651 and powered by an Alpine 4x40. The bottom is covered by a Bazooka tube. The set up sounds awesome. Hooked up to just the factory system or an aftermarket head unit will make the vehicle sound better but it doesn't come alive until it's hooked to an amp. Comes with a bass blocker so it only plays what it is supposed to.

Pros: When hooked to an amp it really comes alive. As usual Crutchfield does an outstanding job they supply the brackets, instructions and connections for an easy install.

Cons: The sensitivity is so high that it almost overwhelms the Polk 6 1/2's in the doors.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm still trying various spots in my Ranger but I seem to get the best results from putting these tweeters right inside the side rearview mirrors. I've been moving them all over using velcro and it seems that the soundstage is proper when the tweeters are closer to the door speakers. My primary goal was to move the sound up higher in the truck but not separate the tweeters too far from the 2 way Polks. These speakers look just fine surface mounted and there wasn't any place that I liked them at flushmounted. The sound is beautiful even though my Polk door speakers are fairly bright because these tweeters reproduce sound that gets muffled in the door. With the addition of the 8" Sound Ordnance sub I am very very pleased with the overall results. I wasn't going to add the tweeters but I'm now really glad I did.

Pros: In spite of other reviews I found these to be really easy to install. Crutchfield is, as always, the only place to get audio gear from.

Cons: none

I Love These Tweeters!

Written by: EricS from Virginia on May 12, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've listened to and installed many tweeters in home and car, going back to the 1970s. These Polks are the best of them all, and the reason why is they are just so buttery smooth and clear. They are strong without being shrill. They made my factory car stereo sound so much better, with spatial imaging improved so much, that I might just not bother modifying any of the rest of the stereo. These tweeters are the real deal. Be sure to test before buttoning up your car - I needed to activate the -3dB option (need to cut a specific yellow loop of wire protruding from the crossover). Most sub-$100 car tweeters don't give you such an option. These also included "starfish" style mounts that made it a snap to install these in the factory tweeter location. Highly recommended.

Pros: Great sound quality, great looks, top-notch installation hardware, including starfish-type mounts.

Cons: Sort of pricey if you don't get them on sale, but worth it.

These are a great upgrade

Written by: Bernie from Phila PA on March 12, 2015

These tweeters are a great upgrade from the stock tweeters on my 2013 Accord. I glued them via surface mount on the existing A-pillar tweeter locations. They really sound a lot better. Adding the Polk tweeters and a sub in the trunk made my EX sound system tolerable. It was complete trash as stock!!

Pros: Nice

Cons: Directions

Very smooth

Written by: Scott A. from California on January 14, 2015

These tweeters were replacements for the stock tweeters in the dash of my 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek. I replaced my stock door speakers with Polk db 5.25 in the rear doors and Polk db 6.5's in the front doors. I tried th tweeters without and with the included "crossovers". They proved to be too harsh without them, so I installed the crossovers. There is a far smoother sound with them in. I very happy with the sound that is produced by the Polks. I am running a stock head unit and these speakers make the stock unit bearable. The only downsides is that I had to make my own mounting brackets to mount them in the stock postion.

Pros: Smooth highs, more detailed highs.

Cons: As others have mentioned, better instructions would have been helpful, had to make my own mounting brackets.

Polk db1001 Tweeters

Written by: Mike56 from Marion, MA on August 22, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nicely packaged tweeters with crossover. Installed in the sail panels of a 2014 Tundra and ran them from a Soundstream amp. The kit comes with both surface and flush mounting, the only reason I did not give them 5 stars was the mounts. The speakers are supposed to snap into the plastic mounting bases, they were not secure and popped out a couple of times. I ended up putting a couple of daps of 5 minute epoxy and that solved the problem. They sound GREAT and I am very pleased, I ended up cutting the -3db gain wire to reduce the brightness. Would buy them again despite the mounting issue!

Pros: Excellent sound, well made driver, and crossover!

Cons: Mounts were a little disappointing, liked the flush and surface options.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A+ speakers. Using stock Radio/CD player speakers sound great. You can hear the snare drum, hi-hat, ride cymbals crsip and clean. They can handle the power with out distorting. Installed a 1997 Chevy S10 Blazer. The Polk db 1001 tweeters are replacing the stock tweeters in the dash. Recently replaced the speakers in front doors and rear doors with Polk Audio db 651s. Unbelievable sound. Normally I would have tone control at full open now it is at about half open. Test song Rush: Test for Echo, Stealy Dan:Deacon Blues.

Pros: Handle the power, Crsip and clean. Well built.

Cons: None.

Polk tweeters expose'

Written by: Ken from Saluda, NC on February 19, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great after market high end, Really opens up the upper frequencies to info that usually gets mired in the mid and top end which rolls off at 12K on OEM hardware. You'd be surprised at how much detail is there for the listening experience. Subtle and very pleasing to the ears of a 60+ y/o previous audiophile.

Pros: Working in conjunction with two pairs of DB571's, the tweeters are seamless. Located in the door panel of a 2013 Ford F150, they are a definite benefit to critical listening.

Cons: As always, Polk's instructions could be improved. It would be advantageous to tell the customer that the Attenuation "chokes" only work in one direction, otherwise they don't work at all. I listened to both using them and removing them and from my standpoint, they are far more open and transparent without the - 3db.

Awesome tweeters! Installed in the A-pillars in my 2013 F150 Lariat crew cab. Used the factory grill covers for a clean look but had to modify some back mounting brackets.

Pros: I can actually tell I have tweeters now. I can't believe the cheap factory Sony speakers that they call a premium sound system!

Cons: None so far. Crutch field service is top notch as well.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These tweeters were recommended to me because I have a set of 4 full range Polk speakers in the doors of my 2009 Saturn Outlook. Those Polks made a major improvement in the mid-range and bass of my 2009 Outlook. Although these new Polk tweeters improve the factory sound significantly, they really aren't providing what I consider to be good sound quality. Voices are reproduced better, but the highs are attenuated significantly. Of course this problem could be caused by my brand new $1,400 Kenwood Head Unit, but that is unlikely, considering my equalizer, when adjusted, doesn't fix the problem. The tweeters do sound better with my new head unit, than with the factory head unit, which is what I used when the tweeters were first installed. I've always heard the saying that Polk makes great speakers because Polk only focuses on speakers. Unfortunately, I don't think it is clear that Polk knows much about tweeters. I am far happier with the JBL tweeters I installed in my other car.

Installation was a hassle for these, but that is true for all after-market tweeters. I only mark Polk down for sound quality.

These tweeters are really just average.

Pros: Mounting similar to other tweeters Improvement on the factory tweeters Improved voice reproduction

Cons: Very poor high frequency reproduction Sound quality compares poorly to competitive sound.

Pros: Excellent sound

These tweeters were suggested by Crutchfield tech after I told him my Bose Marine speakers sounded good, but not great. I already had a 300 w power amp on the Bose, but after adding an Access tech woofer and these Polk tweeters, the sound improved 10-fold. I love them.

Pros: Small, easy to install, look good, GREAT sound. Really brings out the highs. It really helps that they are marine grade so they can get wet.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Great Speakers! I actually was only going to replace the door speakers in my truck, but decided to get these too....Glad I did! Install manual is vague... So, to save you trouble...The Grey wire/Red Trace is Positive from the stereo to the crossover AND, from the crossover to the speaker. Took me a couple hours to install...But only because I wanted to use the stock brackets.....And I am extremely picky! After an hour+ ....Gave up on using the Nissan stock mounts....They Will NOT work... or more precisely, they would look bad! And who wants a bad looking install? Save yourself the trouble, pop the holes, insert the "cup" & be done with it. I am only powering the 2-Db651's & these Db1001's with my receiver " a "Pioneer DEH-P310UB" & it sounds great. The 1001's come with the Wiring if you were wondering. Went from the dash to the receiver with about 8" to spare. Crutchfield was Great as always!

Lousy instructions

Written by: Anonymous from Massillon, ohio on June 11, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The instruction manual ( polk ) is worthless for my db1001 tweeters. It doesn't explain how to mount or even more importantly, how to wire the speakers. They give you this strange little resistor packet or crossover, or whatever it is, with no explanation as to what it is, or what I'm supposed to do with it. The crutchfield manual tells me that I'm supposed to fashion a mounting bracket for these speakers. WHAT? And it doesn't even hint as to how I'm supposed to do that! I was able to mount the db651s speakers easily enough, but the supplied wiring harness is garbage, and I'll have to redo it. Can't give an actual review on the speakers until I can figure out how to mount and wire the stupid things. Not happy with POLK at all. Not sure about crutchfield yet.

[Editor's Note: Our Technical Department has emailed additional wiring and mounting information to you, and are available to further assist you.]

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these awesome tweeters in my 2006 Ford Ranger ex-cab, and they compliment my system very well and open up the soundscape to a new level. I replaced the head unit with a Pioneer DEH-P8300UB, which is awesome, and paired together I am able to hear more of the music than ever before. I can hear intricate guitar parts and vocal harmonies that were muddled before, and the quality of the sound makes you feel like your listening to a live performance! These tweeters actually have that quality, to take the listener into the center of the music and make you "feel like your part of it", when your listening to music in your car, or in my case, my truck. Polk provides mounting hardware for multiple applications which is great, everything you need is in the box which is also nicely packaged. The install was super easy because they went into existing locations and I was done in less than one hour. I reccomend this product to anyone who is looking to enhance their stereo system and "be part of the music"! So get yourself a couple of pairs and "get INTO your music". :^)

I bought these tweeters for my boyfriend's birthday a couple weeks ago. He has upgraded his stereo system in his '07 Dodge Ram with speakers, subs, an amp, and a pioneer flip-out stereo headunit. He said the only thing that was missing was a set of tweeters. He was so excited when he opened these up and had them installed right away. His truck sounds 10X better than before! The Polk tweeters balance the sound out perfectly and create that crisp smooth tone to any song. Amazing product for a great price and fast shipping! Highly recommend.

Installed these tweeters in the front door pillar of an F150 SuperCab, coupled with MM571's in the front door and db571's in the rear. Big difference in presence and staging. I listen to a lot of jazz and vocals and they really bring out the high end, even in an otherwise noisy truck. I was not dissappointed. Their actually a 4 1/2 rating. Now all I have to do is install a sub!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At first I was a little concerned after installing these POLK AUDIO db1001's in my FJ Cruiser dash because these little tweeters were loud and overpowering my door woofers a bit.... But then I discovered that when I turned down my treble on my FJAMMER head unit (factory stereo that is very underated -- I actually love this Toyota FJammer and it has great power!! -- not a normal factory head as you might expect).... Once I turned my treble down on the FJammer, I now have the best blend ever of all my component speakers in my car (Co-Axial woofers in door 6x9), (Bazooka 3.5-inch rear pillars in back), and an (6.5-inch Bazooka Sub in back)...

Anyway, my car is really dialed in with fantastic, controlled, beautiful sound --- the frequencies are all covered nicely and blend well... These POLK AUDIO tweeters are a HUGE part of the overall clean sound and can handle it when I crank up the volume very loud... HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!..... very happy!!!!!

I just replaced the dash-mounted 3 1/2s in my Grand Cherokee with these tweeters. They sound great - very crisp and clear, and much better than any 3 1/2s I've heard. It was a very worthwhile upgrade. I'm giving them a 4 because the installation was pretty bad. The instructions in the book didn't really match what was in the box. I expected better than that from Polk.

replaced factory tweeters in my 2008 jeep w/o infinity system...not an easy job in new jeeps. be prepared to take out most of your dash. polk has 1 owners manual for all their speakers, though these tweeters were listed on the cover of the manual they werent mentioned anywhere in the manual. crutchfield doesnt supply wiring harness from 2008 wrangler factory harness(youll have to splice). the positive, they sound very good , very crisp highs, and were reasonably priced. just a pain to install in the factory mounted tweeters in a jeep. that being said, you install them once you listen to them daily so definitely worth it.

Good Metallic Tweets

Written by: tower from Houston, TX on November 21, 2008

The first thing you'll notice about these tweeters is sheer weight. They use a larger magnet than most, which is a good indication that they can take alot more abuse than those little plastic tweeters. The crossover is not "adjustable" per say, its actually more like a big in-line bass-blocker than a crossover, but it makes for an easier install without a big box to hide.

They get pretty loud and are reliable, my only complaint would be that metallic tweeters are a little harsh on the ears (but some people like it that way).

Screw cup down in place pop speaker in place [ BOBBY  Dec 27, 2014 ]
Man it's been too long since I put them in to be of sure. But if I remember correctly the tweeter snaps into the supplied flush mount cup. The cup has to screw to the supplied bracket behind the panel you flush mount into. You have a few degrees that you can angle the tweeter in the flush cup. To get it right to that sweet spot. [ BRAD  Dec 26, 2014 ]
I brought the polk audio db1001 1inch tweeters for my 07 Tacoma and they work great. The tweeters comes with mounting brackets but i had to get on taco tunes to buy brackets to bolt the tweeters on. I uses the tweeter cups and the taco tune brackets. (Note if you use the cups put three pieces of electrical tape to make a tight fit.) Hope this helps. I never put speakers in a pt cruiser. Good luck man. [ DAWN  Jun 29, 2014 ]
This comes with 2 different styles of mounting brackets. You should be good to go. [ MICHAEL J  Jun 29, 2014 ]
I put these in the dash of my Mercedes G500. The speakers come with a plastic holding bracket. This did not work in my G , so I cut the factory bracket from the factory speakers and glued the factory bracket to the new Polk bracket to make it work. I love the speakers. Good luck with your install. Alex G [ KELLY G  Jun 29, 2014 ]
I installed my Polk tweeters in a 91 Toyota pickup. I'm not sure about your specific installation, but these tweeters do come with surface mount and flush mount hardware. I installed mine flush mount which did require modification to mounting drilling holes. But everything I needed for the mounting was in the box, brackets, cups, etc. They do an excellent job, sound good! [ tony  Jun 28, 2014 ]
Jonathan, The db1001's allow two methods of mounting: you can either use the supplied external brackets, or, as I did on a 2013 F150, the door pillars allow a flush mounting also. Only problem is that you have to use a 2" hole saw for the opening. They are great add-on tweeters. You will not be disappointed. [ Ken  Jun 28, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Polk tweeters have a built in crossover on them so they won't be compatible with the Sound Ordnance crossover or component set. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Mar 15, 2014 ]  Staff
