Polk Audio's db Series subwoofers give you trademark Polk performance without stressing your wallet. These subs combine high-tech materials with a laser-optimized motor structure for smooth, powerful bass response.
The db1040DVC 10" subwoofer boasts a rigid polypropylene cone and durable Santoprene™ surround built to handle big power over the long run. Polk Audio tests their subs rigorously for environmental effects caused by sun, moisture, and extreme temperature changes.
The dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire your system to draw max power from your mono amp or to safely hook up multiple subs. Match a db sub to a suitable enclosure, and enjoy impressive low-frequency performance rarely found in this price range. And Polk certifies this sub for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat too.
Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most 2-channel car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 200 and 400 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.
This sub really surprised me considering how inexpensive it was. I have always known Polk to be an excellent company. This sub seems to be built very well and really punches out clear tight bass. It doesn't require much airspace either. I have it connected to a 300 watt rms kicker amp wired at 2ohms and really surprised me how well it performs. I had to turn the gain WAY down for my taste so there a whole lot more amp/sub combo here than I will ever use. Really impressed with sub!
Pros: Great sound, seems to be well built, seems to be able to handle much more than I will through at it
Great sub for the price. I one of these in my elantra pushed by a kicker amp and boom. Great response sounds great.
Pros: Sound, price, quality
Sub is pretty good quality especially at that price range. Good low end response. Great punch for small box requirements. I am happy with this sub. Great recommendation from the staff at Crutchfield.
Pros: small box requirements are great for space savings. Good low end response for such a small box sub. Great value
Cons: speaker terminals could be improved. Only draw back
Great equipment for my 71chevelle
Pros: Price and the sound.
Very easy to install, looks good, and hits very well and price for it is definitely a go! Installed it in my 04 Dodge Neon and I have the tube people ask if I have two 10s or a 12 incumple sub and they find out its a 10 they get amazed. I'd get another one or convince customers to get one.
Pros: great bass quality, looks awesome, easy installation, and very good for price.
Cons: Could come with adapters for wiring.
This sub is being driven by a Sound Ordnance M-1350 amp in my '98 Corvette. I mounted in a sealed stealth sub box that's .81 cubic feet installed in the center compartment under my trunk. I wired the two voice coils in parallel to yield a 2 ohm impedance. This sub sounds great! Excellent price by Crutchfield too. It's not really broken in yet (the manual says 30 hours of play time to break in), but I'm still in love with it. Buddy in customer service recommended it and I'm sure glad he did.
Pros: Sharp bass hits, good sound, really sharp looking appearance, very easy to install. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat!
Cons: Use caution when mounting the sub in your box. It comes with Allen type lag screws. Be sure they're going in straight or the head can deform the cut out in the mounting ring.
I just bought 4 these polks to throw in my truck because I was lookin for some good bass and a couple people recommend these to me, and man am I glad they did cause I love these things! They hit so hard especially with my amp. I have the amp turned way down cause they were shakin my truck and everyone else's car around me it was pretty great.
Pros: Hits hard Great design Doesn't need massive juice to work properly Fits in a small wedge box Easy hook up Pretty good price Look great
I had to replace my jl audio 10w3 dual voice coil sub in my mustang jl audio stealth box. It lasted me a good 13 years. The Polk Audio db popped right in and looks nice. Build quality seems really good. The sensitivity seems really good also and the bass in my Mustang is back! Hard to fairly compare the jl 10w3 because of its old age but this Polk sub definitely sounds great in the jl stealthbox and saved me around 2 bills. I hope it will last as long as the jl.
Pros: Price Build quality Sound Looks
I'm still breaking them in but they handle 1 ohm like a dream they don't miss a beat. I miss their car audio selections.
Pros: Hit like they mean it
I always was a FAN of Polk Audio, but didn't want to spend the money... So when I seen this "DEAL" I jumped on it... After listening to my setup, my friend ordered.....
Pros: The speaker is built pretty solid w/ a fat rubber surrounding ... The dust cap design is cool an stylish..
Cons: Still has old style terminal's.. They give screws, but no Allen wrench bit.. Took time to bolt them in box, but I guess less chance of a slippage to poke your Polk... Lol *The sound makes up for it... Bass is clean & Deeeep!!
Only reason I gave the "value" category a 5 star is because I got this sub half price. Within the first minute of hearing this thing I smelled heating up.... made me very nervous. But maybe it was some excess glue on the rubber? I thought it was gonna blow, but it has held up for a week so far with a Rockford fosgate 500watt amp powering it. Only have the gain half way up on the amp BTW. Otherwise you will probably blow the sub. I would not spend what these guys are asking.. maybe 10 or 20 bucks less. But like I said got it half price.
Pros: Good highs
Cons: Smelled heat..but went away..still nervous on it blowing
This is a good sub that replaced my cheap Sony Sub. Just played some RUN DMC and it sounded fantastic.
GREAT REPLACEMENT SUB
I have a Lexus GS 430 that has a factory sub in the rear deck. The factory sub blew out and everyone told me I needed to buy a "free air" sub or it will sound terrible. The second problem I encountered is all the manufacturers stopped making free air subs. I did not want a box taking up trunk space. The adviser at Crutchfield evaluated my situation and current factory system and recommended this sub along with a Kenwood amp. He said it will not work optimally but it will sound good. He was right! The sound and base is fantastic!
very wallet friendly yet very powerful. I have one installed in my 2001 grand prix in a 1.25 cubic ft ported box facing forward of the car. Its hooked to a cheap 250w Sony Xplod amp and running at 8 ohms and this thing packs a huge punch, for a 10". and im sure it can get louder and deeper with a better amp. It adds all the low's ive been looking for without breaking the bank. im also running db series component speakers front and back, best sounding setup ive ever done.
It was quite unfortunate that after taking the time to build a box, carpet the thing, then install it in my new boat that I put this sub into the box and there was something wrong with the sub. It made good clean bass, but there was a rattle in the dust cap.
I was disappointed after owning so much other Polk Audio equipment and it being completely trouble free. I will buy Polk again, but after this experience it knocks them down a couple of points in my head.
Crutchfield of course was on top of things. They took the sub back no questions asked and I am getting a replacement MTX 10". Thank you for the trouble free replacement Crutchfield!
These sound pretty good. Bass is a little muddy at low volumes, but that's likely a side effect produced by the enclosure. Otherwise, great response, solid performance with 500 watts dedicated to the pair.
I purchased this sub to replace an old 10" Advent sub in my home theater system that blew out after 8 years of hard use. Crutchfield's detailed specs (such as the exact cutout diameter) meant that I could purchase a sub driver that would fit my enclosure without any modifications.
The sub is installed and working fantastically. Frequency response is great, and it has restored that low end punch in my movies and video games. Bass response is tight. It's installed in a ported enclosure with a volume of about 1.5 cubic feet.
Very sturdy design, and highly recommended.

Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils that offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 2-ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents an 8-ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4-ohm load.
Polypropylene Cone: The cone is made with polypropylene, which provides durability while being lightweight and rigid. The cone is supported by a vented cone/coil coupler, which stiffens the cone for greater mechanical stability and lower distortion.
Santoprene Surround: The Santoprene surround is resistant to extremes in temperature, humidity, and exposure to sunlight for excellent long term reliability.
NOMEX Spider: The fire-retardant flat NOMEX Spider allows extended linear motion while providing highly reliable mechanical and thermal stability.
Triple-vented Kapton Voice Coil Former: Triple venting of the 4-layer Kapton Voice Coil Former, Cone/Coil Coupler and Pole Piece contribute to the high power handling and reliability of the db Series subs.
Klippel Laser Analyzed: The Polk db woofer's voice coil alignment, motor, and suspension are optimized using a state-of-the-art Klippel laser analyzer for superior cone travel linearity, resulting in a flatter response with lower distortion.
Break-In Period: Polk db subwoofers will achieve even greater performance once they are thoroughly broken-in. To break in a new db Sub, play music through it for 20 to 30 hours at moderate levels.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Polk recommends mounting this woofer in a sealed enclosure made out of 3/4" MDF with an internal volume of 0.66 cu/ft.
Recommended Ported Box Volume: Polk recommends a ported enclosure made out of 3/4" MDF with an internal volume of 1.25 cu/ft using a 4" diameter x 12" long port.
Recommended Bandpass Box Volume: Polk recommends a bandpass enclosure made of 3/4" MDF with a total internal volume of 1.65 cu/ft. The bandpass box should have a 0.80 cu/ft sealed rear chamber and a 0.85 cu/ft ported front chamber with 4" diameter x 9" long port.

Adding more low end to Vehicle by adding sub cabinet and amp. Stayed with Polk to match with the rest of the installed speakers. [ Jesse Feb 05, 2016 ]

I am powering with an Alpine MRX-V60 5-channel amp. You can definitely put more power to the sub with a dedicated mono amp, but my space for amps is limited and it does just fine for me. Smooth, clean sound in a sealed box. [ Chad Mar 23, 2014 ]
I'm using a Rockford Fosgate Punch P500-1bd. It's a 500 watt 1 ohm amp wired to two subs in parallel. When I bought my subs the advisor said my amp was a little under power for what they could handle, but it seems to push them pretty well. I have no complaints. [ MICHAEL Mar 22, 2014 ]
