Precise sound

Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.

Polk's db461 speakers feature 4"x6" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction, enveloping you in bright musical detail. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio.

All db Series speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware. Whether you've got a factory radio or aftermarket stereo, these efficient speakers will spice up your daily commute. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced some other speakers with these and couldn't be happier. I have these matched with the 5.25 version along with a Boston Acoustics 10 inch sub in my 2004 Jeep Wrangler. The sound is amazing! Crutchfield delivered them quickly along with free brackets and wire harnesses. My head unit is a Kenwood Media Player that I plug my 80g iPod Classic into. To anyone reading this review. It's possible to get good sound in a Jeep. Thanks Crutchfield for supplying my sound!!

Pros: Excellent sound, extra gear to help with the installation, saving money by doing this myself. Fast shipping, correct order, great tech support and follow up via email.

2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked these speakers for their sensitivity since they're being fed by the factory head unit and I haven't been disappointed. The sound is clear and distinct--every nuance is discernible. The baffles that Crutchfield recommends for my installation location (the c-pillars in a 2013 Silverado regular cab) do seem to improve the sound. At the very least, a little weather stripping between the mounts and the sheet metal should be used to cut down on vibration in this location.

Pros: Sensitivity, clarity, volume even from a low-powered factory head unit.

Cons: None so far.

These had a little less bass than the stock speakers but highs and voice are much clearer. They were about 4dB louder, measured at the speaker, over stock using the factory GM radio at half volume.

Pros: Better high's and improved voice.

Cons: Actually, less bass than stock.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were easy to install - took less than a hour to install in read doors of 2002 GMC Sierra. For a relatively small speaker, I'm very happy with the results. I still have to do some final tweaking/tuning of the amp feeding them, but in the meantime, the head unit controls are more than adequate. Huge difference over the stock paper-based OEM units. I expect these to last better too.

Pros: good value & performance.

Cons: none yet.

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The OE speakers in the back doors of my '06 Silverado were barely listenable. They were mushy/muddy, lacked definition. Already have component spkrs in the front doors. Having gotten accustomed to clear, articulate high quality home speakers, & Kenwood & Infinity speakers (also from Crutchfield) in my Toyota, I knew I could do way better with some aftermarket spkrs. I read the customer reviews on a number of 4X6" that would fit the door panels of my truck. All the reviewers of these Polk spkrs agreed the db461's are some of the best sounding, marine certified & more efficient (91db 1W/1M) high quality vehicle spkrs in this size. After installing & living with them for a couple of weeks, I wd agree with the customer reviews. They are clear, detailed, & well defined. It sounds better everywhere in the cab of this truck now, They complement the component front door spkrs. very well. (They lack bass, I didn't expect much from 4X6's.) These are my first Polk spkrs., but won't be my last.

Pros: Sound great, installed easily.

Cons: Lacks bass, nothing a small subwoofer wouldn't cure.

Rear Door Quality Sound

Written by: Ironfist from New Mexico on April 11, 2015

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are excellent speakers with crisp, clear highs and solid mids! Located in the rear doors of my vehicle, they deliver the rhythm sound needed to allow the front speakers to take over the leads. The construction is SOLID. The rear doors are open/closed often and so I installed these speakers with the optional foam baffles to help absorb some of the shock when the doors are closed. I chose these speakers to withstand the elements, and as of now, I'm very impressed with the SOUND!

Pros: Durable construction, clear highs, sturdy mids.

Cons: None so far.

Perfect for upgrade to Porsche 911

Written by: Chris A from Chicago, Illinois on January 13, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a vintage Porsche 993/911 Carrera coupe and the OEM Nokia rear package shelf hi-fi speakers finally vaporized and needed to be replaced. I looked at, and purchased 4 different brands of 4x6 and plate speakers before I purchased the Polk's. By far, these speakers are the clearest, cleanest and punchiest of the lot. They have turned my old Porsche system into something pretty special. I am using no outboard amp -- just the power from the factory stock Becker CDR-210 head unit. Sounds fantastic. The Polks are paired with Focal 5.25 component door speakers.

Pros: Very affordable, robust build quality, sensational power handling and sound.

Cons: Bottom mount on the Porsche deck may require some modification to ensure correct fit.

2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put these in an 04 Wrangler Limited. Way better than stock, and by placing the tweeter in the center rather than off to the side, you get a larger speaker cone for the mids/lows. No speaker this size is going to give you booming bass; its just not possible. However with the factory sub in the console, these things really clear up the sound and make your tunes sound great. They are very efficient and I couldn't be happier. With the adapter it took about 15 minutes to put them both in.

These speakers are clear sounding; I'm using them with an Alpine CD player. Installation was extremely easy. They appear to be well-bulit & fit the vehicle ('02 Chevy Silverado 2500HD extended cab) perfectly. I also used the speaker baffles that the sales advisor recommended. I bought these to replace the aging paper speakers in the front of my '06 Wrangler. I decided not to use the supplied adapter rings to mount the speakers as that left a wide open space behind them and that seemed to make the bass suffer a bit so, I reused the original enclosures (after I modified them) and the speakers are now so much better than stock!

Pros: Excellent sound quality

Bought these to replace the rear speakers in my 2005 Chevy Silverado. Had to drill 1/8" holes for screws to mount, but other than that, installation was simple. Crutchfield is second to none in customer service, even sending detailed and pictured instructions on how to install in your specific vehicle. I won't buy auto sound from anyone else! The speakers sound amazing compared to the old ones. I also bought the 6 1/2" Kenwoods for the front door speakers... also outstanding sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for my 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500HD to match the Polk db651 speakers I bought for the doors. The sound from the stock stereo is great now. Prior to installing these, you barely heard the rear speakers but now you truly have the cab filled with clear sound. I also purchased the baffles for the speakers that are inexpensive but well worth it. I didn't want to change the stereo or add an amp and these speakers have really met and exceeded my expectation.

Installed in the dash on 1999 S-10 blazer. Same quality of sound sound and volume as Alpine S series I have in my other truck. 4x6 will fit in a Blazer if you shave the mounting hole about 1.8 inch around factory speaker plate location and only takes about 3 minutes per speaker. Good value and will work great on low power factory radio.

Rear standard cab 2500 HD

Written by: Whit from Boston, Ma on March 15, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am still using the factory C/D player with digital encoder, so my expectations are low. The speaker baffles were installed with these speakers in the rear corner posts of a regular cab truck. All fit easily, couldn't fit any bigger speakers there. I would say a bit too much high end frequency response. (tinny) But have to accept a small speaker package due to tight installation area. I did install bigger units in the door panels that worked out well. I give a 4 because of low bass response. A big improvement from the original speakers, especially for THD at any volume including AM talk radio. Would recommend if you are looking for a good value, ease of installation, and hopes of upgrading the over all bass using some other unit else where in the truck.

Cons:

Works fine in a 2002 Chevy S-10

Written by: debitspread from Houston, TX on December 28, 2008

These speakers fit just fine and they sound great, too. Big improvement over the original Delco dealies that were replaced.

I gave these Polks 4 out 5 stars only because they're not super high-end speakers. But they're definitely worth the money, and are really a good value, in my opinion.

Got 'em hooked up to an Alpine 9884. With Kickers in the doors, I'm ready for some tunes!

Pros:

Cons:

4x6

Written by: Terry from TX on December 10, 2008

For a 4 x 6 the sound quality was suprisingly good. The speakers look cheap with its stamped steel basket and I had concerns about distorting the basket as I tighened it in place of the factory 4 x 6. I am running these off an Apline CDA-9886 head unit. I would definatly recommed these as a replacement 4 x 6 speaker. They were much better than the Infinity's I bought for the rear. The sound is crisp just not qite as full as I would like, but then again there not 6 1/2" compent speakers either. Over all very good for the price. I am going to purchase the XTC 4"x6" Speaker Baffles to see if that helps bring out some midrange to warm the sound up a little.

Small but Effective 4x6

Written by: tower from USA on June 19, 2008

These things can serve all sorts of purposes. They are small enough to be
crammed into the tight holes of older-model GM trucks, which is no easy
feat using more effecient plate type speakers like the Polk Momo MMC460
which normally have larger magnets. Their size and marinized properties
also make them ideal for installing on golf carts inside the storage bins.
Produce good, clean sound that can hit a pretty high volume before
distorting, though not ideal for amplified systems.

Pros:

Cons:

Good Speaker

Written by: Matt from NC on June 2, 2008

These are a pretty decent pair of speakers. They are budget friendly, and are an easy way to upgrade your stock speakers. I used them first on just aftermarket h/u power (22 watts rms) and they aren't very pleasing. I then purchased an Alpine MRP-F250 (40 watts rms x 4) and they sounded great. They aren't the best of course but a good speaker nonetheless. I have owned these, Infinity Kappa plate 4" x 6"s and Polk Audio Momo plate 4" x 6" speakers. They have some midbass, and they have a tweeter which is always a good thing. IMO, if you're considering buying a pair of these speakers, pay $20 more on this site to upgrade to the Polk Audio Momo plate 4" X 6"s. These are better than the Kappas because the Kappas run at 2 ohms, which gives you more power, but a great deal more THD (total harmonic distortion).

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofer Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance polymer/mica composite mineral-filled cone. The cones are stiff and lightweight for big sound and low distortion.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use butyl rubber surrounds.

Kapton Voice Coil Former: The low-mass, 2-layer Kapton Voice Coil former is lightweight for high sound output. Kapton's high melting temperature (725°F) ensures high power handling and longer reliability.

Silk/Polymer Composite Tweeters: The 3/4" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite tweeters provide clear, detailed highs. The tweeters use neodymium magnets.

2-way Crossover Network: The built-in 2-way crossover network sends the appropriate frequencies to each driver for cleaner sound and better imaging.
