Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.
Polk's db461p plate speakers feature 4" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Polk mounts the liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeter apart from the woofer so you get the improved performance of separate components from a single speaker. The built-in 2-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for improved imaging.
Whether you've got a factory radio or an aftermarket stereo, these efficient speakers will spice up your daily drive. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.
Fit my 1990 Wrangler perfect. These have little to no bass but the sound quality is excellent. These speakers combined with my 10" sub are a perfect combo
They sound 100% better than my stock speakers, very happy
Pros: Exact fit for my jeep front speakers, great sound
Always have like the smoothness of Polks
Pros: match the Helix perfectly
Pros: Sounds great!
Great quality product. Fits snug in 97 wrangler
Good sound and perfect fit for the Jeep Wrangler. Big improvement over stock speakers. Love the fact that they are marine rated
Pros: sound, look, price
Great product with great sound. Easy to install with a great look.
Pros: Best sound for the price!
incredible speakers , they really look great with the grills off but I gotta keep them protected, lol, I have them hooked up to my amp in my jeep wrangler along with another set of polk audio speakers in the soundbar, these speakers are very clear and crisp and sound good with every type of music that I have played on them so far, I would recommend them in any jeep who wants a great sound
Pros: Great look, incredible sound, easy fit application, good power
These sound amazing clear highs, full mids, and even a little base . Easy to install without removing the dash on my YJ wrangler.
Easy to install came with everything you need. Acoustic sounds are outstanding crisp and clear paired speakers with a Pioneer deck no amp. Not for bass heads just for people that want crisp clear sound
Pros: easy install great sound for the money
Cons: Not for bass heads
awesome product sounds GRA installation was a breeze
Sounds ok full range but I highly recomend filtering at 100 or 120 hz really a good set of speakers
Pros: Very clean very clear real detailed
Cons: None could have better lows but come on their 4x6 you want detailed mids and highs
They sent supporting hardware and detailed instructions insulation was Zippy-Do-Da easy peezy! New speakers sound great!!
Pros: Install Ease. Improved sound over Factory speakers.
The speakers sounds great and was a easy installation
Pros: Easy installation
I bought these to replace the factory speakers in my 89 GMC Sierra regular cab. They didn't come close to fitting. Rather than send them back I decided to try to install them in the dash. After a little modification and a few choice words they fit and sound great. I'm pretty sure none of the 4x6 plate speakers will fit in that speaker location behind the seats. Needless to say, I'm a little disappointed with Crutchfield.
Pros: Clear sound, cool looking, surprisingly good bass.
Cons: Require plenty of install space.Crutchfield response on August 13, 2014 Our Tech Support team reached out to the customer to get more details about the speakers not fitting his truck. Working as expected
Excellent dash speakers.
These speakers where worse than the 25 year old Kenwoods that were in my Jeep. No bass at all and sounded terrible. Would not recommend them for the price I paid at all.
Cons: Terrible speakers no bass and cheap sounding
Replaced the factory dash speakers in an 03 Wrangler. Perfect fit with the adapters, easy install. Sound great. Very little bass, but I was expecting that. Paired with Polk speakers in the sound bar and for the bass duties, a 15 yr old 200w Optimus amp and 10" MTX sub that I dug out of the closet. All combine to wake up the Sony head unit.
Pros: Clear sound, good mids and highs, perfect fit.
How do they geat such great sound out of a tiny, little speaker? These things work great, a tremendous improvement over the 20 yo OEM speakers. They were not, however easy to install in my daughters Jeep. I had to remove the hardtop, windshield, and dashboard to get them in properly. (Just not enough room to work due to the massive magnets on these speakers.)
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Hard to install in a 1994 Jeep Wrangler
I had these for 3 months and waited till after the break in period to write this. they are great speakers. from looks you would expect more bass but they cover mids and highs great. they are paired with polk DXi651s in the fronts and they are a really great match. the headunit is a kenwood excelon kdc-397. i couldnt be happier. huge improvement over stock where i only had 2 speakers working with stock headunit.
Pros: great speakers. they really scream when the volume is about 28 on the headunit. no amp needed
sounds alot better than the factory speakers with no amp im very happy
I installed these in my 02 Wrangler, and they did not disappoint. Very clear and crisp highs and mids. It sounds amazing as all Polk speakers should off of my alpine cda-105 with no other amplification. I had to modify the speaker pod that was in my wrangler, but it was so worth it from an SQ standpoint. Being in a sealed enclosure does help them handle a little more power. While you're not going to get thumping bass from this speaker, I was happy with the overall tonal quality of this speaker. After all it is only a 4x6 plate. Overall I will be buy this series again.
Pros: Clean and crisp sound, Good packaging, Good looking unit.
These great marine grade speakers fit perfectly in the TJ's dash with the supplied adapters, don't try to fabricate adapters yourself, it takes so much time and effort, its worth the bucks (they come free if you order them with speakers here). The wiring adapters are not needed (but again they come free), just snip the old harness off and crimp in two clip adapters from your local autozone that fit the back of the new speaker. simple, save bucks. All around a great speaker, expect notable improvements in full spectrum sound quality. If you choose to wire them to an external amp, you will get even more adaptability and quality, but plug and play with stock or aftermarket radio they work just fine.
Pros: Easy to install, solid quality, marine grade
Fit was perfect. Huge improvement over factory.
Had to modify the mounting plate supplied. It was spec for my 03 wrangler but the speaker holes did not line up with the predrilled holes on the plate. I used some self tapping screws, and after a trip to the store and more money I was able to install these. They are 100X better than the stock speakers I had
These speakers went it flawlessly. I have never replaced a speaker in my life and was able to install these in less than 30 minutes.
These speakers sounded great powered by an aftermarket head unit. Handle plenty of power and are a huge improvement over the factory speakers. Crutchfield sent the adapters with the speakers so it was a bolt-in affair to install in the dashboard of my 2003 Jeep Wrangler.
Pros: Great sound Plenty powerful Easy install in the Jeep Marine certified (so hopefully durable in the Jeep)
Setup with 600 MHz bass blockers and foam surrounds on an Alpine deck. Perform well at low volume level but when listening at higher volume levels these speakers loose their clarity rather quickly and become distorted. Build quality looks good and should hold up to outdoor use. Overall these are acceptable replacement speakers.
Pros: Marine Certified Good clarity at low volume
Cons: Poor clarity at high volume
I wish they had more bass but they are crisp on the His and Mids.. worth the money
great sound for the price
lot of sound from the small speaker. Fits easily in the stock space. Waterproof speak should be good for jeep application, little concerned about the plastic mounting surround, but we'll see what happens
Pros: good clear sound form just my stock HU, would benefit from small amp i think
Cons: plastic surround. It does seem sturdy and flexible enough not to break, but we'll see
good choice clear sound
the best speakers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These Polk Audio db461p's are great for their small size. Packs a punch!
Pros: - Nice, crisp sound
Great sound. Easy install
Pros: Easy install
Cons: No bass.
perfect fit for the dash of my 05 jeep wrangler using the mounting brackets and wiring harnesses from crutchfield. Good bass for a small speaker and has crisp highs. Very easy installation in about 30 min for the two speakers. Nice addition to the factory head unit.
Pros: easy install
Installed these in my 92 z71 extended cab. Had to do a little modification, but well worth it.
Pros: Great sound. Good bass quality.
Cons: Had to modify to fit.
Amazing sound, easy to install, and Marine rated as well!
Pros: Great Sound, Marine Rated
I got these speakers in December 2012 and they have been installed for 4 months now. I installed them myself with the Crutchfield included factory wire harness adapter. For a 4x6 speaker, they have a fair amount of Bass but nothing spectacular. The woofer excels at producing clear Mids and the tweeters produce very crisp but not harsh Highs. Cymbals sound spectacular and the snare in the drum kit is more pronounced now. I love them. Unfortunately, the driver side speaker has developed a crackling just 3 months after install. It was intermittent at first and now it is constant. I have taken the door apart 4 times, checked to make sure the wiring is good, there is no loose internal door components, and that the dust cover is securely fastened to the door. Nothing has helped. I have contacted Polk and they will be replacing the speaker under warranty once I have the time to remove it and send it to them. I will write another review once I receive the replacement speaker and install it. These speakers are driven by a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X395 so I know they have not been overpowered. I also do not turn the volume above 30 (Max 35) and have not heard any distortion or peaking in any of the other speakers. Makes me wonder what would happen if I drove these with an amp to their rated 50 watts. Overall a GREAT speaker, just with questionable reliability but FANTASTIC customer service from Polk.
Pros: Clear Mids, Crisp and clean Highs, Well Built, Premium Materials
Cons: Plastic Frame, Lacks much bass for Lows, Questionable Reliability
Great looking replacement for your in dash speakers for the Wrangler that sound decent. I wish they would have a little better quality sound but that may be due to my older head unit or by contact with the dash frame. I need to investigate this further... Would give 5 stars if it fit a little better.
Pros: Looks great and sounds decent
Cons: Not a exact fit; lots of mounting options, you just have to choose which works best for you and make it fit.
Replaced factory set of rear speakers in Silverado using stock amp. Good improvement in mid/high response but degraded bass respose. Factory speakers actually reproduced lower frequencies than these. Fit well in stock locations without modification. Plan on replacing them again so I can get some bass.
Pros: Decent basket construction, ok mid/high sound, do not distort easily.
Cons: No bass at all, none, even at low volumes. Other speakers available for less cost that perform as well.
Installed these in the rear pillar of an 05 Silverado 2500 HD Regular Cab, along with some MM651's in the front door and I think these outperform the MM651's. Nice upgrade from the OEM's.
Pros: Nice clarity, fit pretty well, and were easy to install.
Cons: After a year....no complaints
These speakers have nice sound. I think they sound better than the regular db461's that I replaced. The only thing is that you have to drill new holes for mounting.
I would give this product a 0 if I could. I just insatllaed these 3 weeks ago in the back door of my 2011 GMC Sierra. In all fairness I did not buy these from Crutchfield. Installation was easy, they fir well and sounded good. Today I had a short in the spreakers, thought a wire may have dropped offf, couldn't be more wrong. Whe I took the inside door panel off the drivers side door I could not believe what I saw. The entire frame had broken around each screw. There was nothing holding the speaker in place at all and the rest of the frame had also been destroyed. Then I took the passenger panel off and that speaker was even worse. The frame around the woofer had actually broken along with the rest of the frame. I have a stock head unit and no amplifier. I do like to play the music loud but come on, this is absolutely unacceptable.
Pros: Fit was good, sounded good when lasted.
Cons: Frames are plastic and just junk.
Nice speakers decent range. Not the punch of larger products but for the space provided these units deliver. With the special 'half off w/ qualifying purchase, this was a great deal. I am verry happy.
Pros: Easy install, nice cear sound, water resitant.
Cons: not the biggest bass punch, would not push these too hard
Clear precise sound is my opinion of this product. A driver of this size is not capable of delivering a lot of bass, but neither is any other driver of this size. If you want bass you need to add an appropriate subwoofer. As to the value, I cite the law of diminishing returns. You would have to spend a lot more for an incremental increase in quality.
Pros: Accurate sound, good value, easy installation
Cons: None so far
These were very easy to install. Instructions were great as were the speaker harness connectors which were included. I can just about turn the radio all the way up with no distortion. Excellent upgrade from my worn out factory speakers.
Pros: Easy to install, good bang for the buck.
Cons: Be careful with the GM plastic on a regular cab. I broke mine during removal.
All the right install equipment and information makes all the difference in the world. These speakers sound great !!!!!!!!!!
Pros: definite upgrade from factory
Cons: No bass but what do you expect from such a small speaker.
Installed as if were factory. But, little, or no bass response. Need more speaker in a Jeep Wrangler.
Pros: Fit perfectly. Installed without any problems. Great price
Cons: Not a lot of bass. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a 4x6.
Not a bad speaker, not a lot of bass so I'm going to get an amp hoping it helps a little
Pros: Good price
Cons: Not many but no lows
much better than stockers can actually feel them in the seat belts
Pros: better sound nice construction easy to install
OK speakers at best. They sound good but are not durable. I have them hooked up on my JL amp with 75 watts RMS and never turn it up past 30% max volume (about 25 watts I figure). Under these conditions I have now blown out 3 sets of these in about 1 and 1/2 years. I spoke to Polk about this and they directed me to get a specific capacitor which I did and I installed this. It helped some but I still blew out another set (the 4" driver voice coil seizes up and then its one big tweeter). Added an electronic crossover to eliminate lows that Polk engineers stated blew the speakers and that helped my last set last for about 6 months but they blew out this week. At least Polk has been very good about replacing them for free every time, until now. I need to find something else for the rear doors in my Silverado ext. cab. Oh and the first sets plastic mounting frame fell apart (disintegrated), likely due to Arizona's hot dry summers, which caused the speakers to fall out of the doors.
Pros: Easy to install. Nice sound if you run them at about 10 - 15 Watts RMS and no more. Good looks.
Cons: Not durable. Dont handle the power they state they can (blow out very easy at about 25 watts RMS). Make sure to get an electronic crossover or capacitor to block bass in order to help extend their life if hooking them to an Amp.
I replaced these speakers with my old 75 corvette originals in the dash. I had to make simple mods to fit but they went in perfect. the sound is amazing. I was listening in my garage after I put them in and my neibor 3 doors down thought I had put my stereo speakers outside. I have an alpine set up and I have not had the problem with the bas. Great speakers great price.
Pros: great sound, very clear.
Speakers were shipped free and ariived the same week I ordered them. I installed them in my YJ Wrangler alomg with a new head unit. They sound great. They are compact and powerful. I am satisfied with the service and the product.
Pros: Sounds great. Free shipping and timely arrival
Cons: Fit in the space but had to drill new mount holes. Universal holes were not universal enough for Jeep Wranglers. Everything fits fine with a little tweekadge.
speakers sound great and install was easy in my daughters grand am! highly reccommend!!
I installed Polk Audio db461p in the dash of my 96 S10 the are hands down the best 4x6 speaker I've ever heard. I'm running them off my deck . Cristal clear highs, good mids, not really meant for lows though but that's what subs are for. I did need to modify the passengers side speaker cover because it wouldn't fit back on (just had to cut the very corner of the speaker bracket off doesn't effect the speaker at all). I planed on installing tweeters as well but after installing these I realized I don't need them. The highs or more then enough to go with my 12" Kicker CompVT subwoofer.
Bought these speakers to replace rear 4"x6" factory ones. The speakers can
handle some power and have a good response, you can tell the separate
tweeter/woofer design makes a difference. That being said, the high's are a
slightly muted and the lows are a bit suppressed, but with 4"x6"'s, one should
not expect a big bass. All-in-all, a quality set of speakers for the price.
Great upgrade! Easy to install and great sound.
99-06 Chevy or GMC Truck Owners READ THIS REVIEW!
If you have a 99-06 Chevy or GMC Truck and you want or, in my case, need to upgrade.
These speakers will fit the bill.
My Vehicle: 2006 Ext. Cab Sierra 2500HD W/T.
Head Unit: JVC KW-XR610 2 DIN CD Receiver
Polk Audio db 461p: The rear door speakers were a breeze to install. Remove the
place the 4X6 plate in the hole, mark one screw hole, remove, drill 1/8" hole, plug in
speaker, screw it in and drill and screw the other 3 holes.
In conclusion, if you want to upgrade, and these speakers are the ticket. This system is
perfect for all kinds of music. It all sounds good.
Very clean, crisp sound. Not much bass but you shouldn't expect much from speakers
this size. Super easy installation with the harness Crutchfield provides for free.
Amazingly "Big" sounding for such a small package. They sound great in my Jeep
Wrangler. Very difficult to install, but that an issue with the in dash speakers in a Jeep
YJ. I matched them up with some Kenwood, 3 ways in the door. Now maybe a sub, is in
I ordered these to replace the rear factory speakers in my 2006 Chevy Silverado ext. cab after I replaced my fronts with the DB651's. I was really impressed in the improvement they made over my factory front speakers. When I ordered the db461p's, Crutchfield recommended that I also order the foam baffles that enclose the rear of the speakers. When I got them installed I immediately noticed a nasty low frequency buzz in these rear speakers. It turned out that the baffles were creating a vibration where they came in contact with the outside skin of the rear door. Crutchfield says that these baffles compress to fit behind the speakers. They didn't mention that they cause this nasty buzz. After removing the baffles the problem was solved and the speakers sound great. So I would recommend the speakers but would pass on the baffles if going in the rear doors of a Silverado ext. cab.
sound great, still have to mess with the eq quite a bit, but so far way better the the pioneer speakers i have up front.
IMPORTANT: you will have to cut a little bit to make these fit in to the pillar of these trucks, for 03-06 they all are the same, not sure about earlier models, or newer
I bought these speakers for my 2001 s10. It says on Crutchfield that none
of the 4x6 they sell will fit in the dash. These fit if you modify it just a little.
When you take off the speaker cover on the dash and take out the
speakers there is a little plastic peice on the dash (facing the outside on
both sides). Just knock it off with a hammer and screw driver. On the
speaker cover you take a hacksaw and cut the two plastic things (where
the screws go in) even with the plastic oval ring. Then all you do is line it
up! You can use all the old bolts and screws. I have Infinity Kappa in the
door and two 12" Infinity Kappa subs in the back. I decided to try Polk
because they were about $30 cheaper then the Kappa 4x6. They sound
amazing! They are really bass sensative too, but still sound awesome.
I own a 2005 Jeep Wrangler I used these speakers to replace the stock speakers I had. The speakers are okay, I think I was expecting a bit more from them. For the Wrangler the front speakers are just accessory speakers. Invest your money into a great set of speakers for the roll bar. That is where most of your sound will be generated. The sound bar it supose to hold 5"1/4 speakers. With a drill bit I was able to install JBL 6"1/2 speakers, HUGE difference! I think that 4 x 6 speakers are not powerful enough to give good quality sound. Also the location of the dash speakers in Wranglers is HORRIBLE. Some one in another post stated about trying to fit a large speaker in the front rather than the 4 x 6. I think is the way to go.
[Editor's Note: The adapter needed to install 4x6" speakers in the wrangler dash is no longer available. We now recommend 4" speakers for this location.]
Replaced factory speakers in a 99 Silverado regular cab with these. Great
sound even with the Delco cd player. I'd recommend them for any
Just want to second what another reviewer said about installing in a reg.
cab GM full size pickup. Thankfully, I read his review before installing.
Saved my old pillar brackets and reused them. The spacers kept the
magnets from sticking to the inside of the pillar post. That's a slim, narrow
spot once you get in there and the cutout in the sheetmetal is designed to
accomodate a standard 4x6.
Overall, a great set of speakers. All that hard work was worth it.
I purchased the combo of db 4 x 6 for the dash and 5 1/4 for the roll cage and couldn't be happier with the crystal clear rich sound they provide; at this time I have the factory head unit with XM radio. I will eventually get a new cd player and would like to add a small sub for a little added bass but until Crutchfield came through again. I will definitely buy the other components from them! Thanks to customer service for answering all my questions; stellar job.
Oh and the install couldn't have been easier with the wiring harness included. All I needed was a Phillips screwdriver and 15 minutes...done!
They are in Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with the factory head unit. They sound great, much better then stock. I had to cut the base on the head ubit or they get a little boomy. I can turn the radio up all the way with no distortion. Im sure they will sound much better when I replace my head
unit with the Alpine XD100.
These speakers was recommended by Crutchfield for my sons Chevrolet Pickup, and they work excellent. The installation was ok, but if you install them in a regular cab Chevy pickup 99 and up you will need to remove the old plastic spacer piece from the old speaker mounts and use them on the new speakers or they will not fit with out the large magnet on the new speakers sticking to the truck body, and that will ruin your new speakers. When I put the spacers on it was perfect.
If your stuck with a 4by6 speaker size and don't want box speakers laying around, (leaving room for good stuff like Subs) the Polk db 461p is a excellent choice. extreme crystal clear highs with a small punch. Very sensitive to bass, but tunable to achieve what you really would expect from these sizes in reality of capability. Please note; using Kenwood Excelon 591 receiver w/4 volt pre-outs through zn9 Streetwires RCAs into excelon x-40 amp witch is 70rms into that Polk 461p. They absolutely love it. They take about 85% of the amp max (sensitivity). For little guys...they are sweet. Started with Excelon 4by6. wasn't happy. same price for the Polk also. kenwood rated 20 rms 100max, best they had. The Polk advertises 50rms and 150 peak. You will hear every bit of that rated power, crystal Screamin clear. Peace
I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I was dissapointed or astounded by the bass output on these speakers. Because thats not what they were made for. What I will tell you is that the highs these things deal out are nothing less than incredible. They are just so clean and clear, with no distortion. I currently have them powered off my head unit, and I can turn it up all the way and they just will not distort. The only way they could be better is if they were MOMO's or the SR series, but they are just so much more expensive. Anyway, they are the best for the money in the world.

Not sure what you're putting them in to. But if it's a Jeep TJ the factor grill still works. A bracket for the speaker is provided by Crutchfield but still requires two self tap screws to install on to original speaker bracket. [ JEFFERY May 10, 2015 ]

Mark, I bought these speakers about a year and a half ago and I do NOT believe they came with speaker grilles. Actually, I am certain of it. They are designed to replace your stock speakers in the same location. Meaning that they would be behind the vehicle manufacture's speaker grill. I installed mine in the rear of a 1995 GMC extended cab [ KRISTOPHER D Sep 29, 2014 ]
Mine didn't come with covers. I have made covers for these odd shaped speakers before. [ JASON L Sep 29, 2014 ]
