2004 Subaru Impreza WRX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Speakers sound great and are a big upgrade for the rear doors of my Subaru 2004 WRX wagon. Speaker weighed about 5x the factory paper ones! If you own the same car, run Far away and do not buy these! The upgrade isn't worth the pain you'll go through. Crutchfield says they "Fit". NO - they fit only with massive modification and hours of wasted time. I sadly expected this to be a plug and play swap taking a few minutes. Not even close and here's why...the Subaru factory rear speakers themselves are the speaker mount. You have to completely destroy and tear apart the factory speaker from it's own self. Then you have to heavily modify what's left of the factory speaker "mount" to get them to fit without destroying the mount. Incredibly Frustrating! I had to bore a 2-3/4" hole through the back of the plastic factory mount with my drill press to accept the Much bigger magnet of this speaker. Then, I had to spend a bunch of time with the Dremel to grind off various spots of each mount to the speaker would recess into it far enough to not bang into the back-side of the door panel. You'll waste hours of time trying going slowly because the speaker "mount" is the only one you've got and you're reducing it to a fraction of what it was designed to be. Crutchfield - please update your site so others avoid this same painful experience.
