Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.
Polk's versatile db5251 component speaker system features 5-1/4" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Liquid-cooled 1" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction, enveloping you in bright musical detail. You can surface- or flush-mount the tweeters with the included swivel-mount cups. Just aim the tweeters so they broadcast toward your ears, creating a powerful stereo image.
External crossovers direct the right frequencies to the tweeters and woofers to maximize their performance, and their housings let you hide all wiring for a clean, professional look. These speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware, plus muscular ABS grilles that will add a stylish touch to your car's interior. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.
Priced per system
A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.
They sound great! I do think I need a small sub to add a little more bass
Pros: Great mid range mid bass and highs
My 2005 Dodge Ram pickup came with factory 6x9 speakers stock. Obviously they sounded weak and I wanted a quality replacements. These speakers have fantastic tweeters, possibly the best I have ever listened to. The woofers however are quite the disappointment and make noticeably less bass than even my weak stock speakers. I'm not talking about heavy hitting dance music bass either, regular bass guitar fades away where it was once prominent. The speakers are hooked up to a Kenwood Excelon amp and have plenty of power. Crutchfield offered to exchange the speakers but I was conflicted at the time considering the tweeters were essentially perfect and I was hoping the yet to be installed subs would even things out (which they didn't). Ultimately these are being replaced.
Pros: Excellent tweeters
Cons: Disappointingly weak bass
Love these speakers. Clean sound and crisp highs. Would recommend to anyone looking to uograde OeM speakers
Pros: Price Sound quality
I replaced the old and tired Harmon Kardon speakers in my BMW Z-3. These sound great!
Pros: Great sound.
Cons: These were listed as a fit for the Z3, but some modification was needed for the tweeters in the doors.
Sounds a lot better than stock. Not exactly what I thought they would be. When in turn the volume up high the voices sound distorted.
Pros: Easy to wire and install.
Cons: Not the best sound quality.
when used in the right application these Polk speakers are as good as any speakers on the planetI have a 1998 Mustang GT Convertible Polk db5251components up front Polk dB6501components in rearAlpine head unit CDA 148 BT Alpine amplifier PDX f6 also sound ordnance self powered sub system. by the Polks you won't be disappointed I couldn't be happier
Pros: Great sounds
I took a more time to find a location for the cross over than anything else, once installed they sound was great. I paired these up with db651s speakers in the rear.
Speakers sound great in rear doors of my Mazda 6. They sound great in combo with the DB6501's in my front doors. Speakers were installed with an amp, there is more than enough power.
Pros: Great sound & price
These speakers have a very good build quality and sound excellent, only downside is the crossovers are a little large so it took some time to find a decent mounting position for them but after that installation was an ease
Pros: Sounds great, awesome build
Cons: Crossovers are a little large
I bought these speakers while on sale and from the scratch and dent section. Worth the original price for sure! I do not have them amped yet, but will asap. BUY THEM!
Pros: Smooth sound, great tweeters, good looking.
Cons: Not very loud if not amped (even with aftermarket HU)
This is the second vehicle I've installed these speakers into. Very easy to install and sound outstanding compared to factory speakers. With a good amp and bass speaker these are all the speakers you'll need, short of turning your auto into a $50,000 sound studio,
Pros: Easy install and good sound
Cons: Instructions with the speakers are a waste. If you don't know how to swap speakers, the included instructions will not help.
Speakers sound great. My Z3 must have a crossover built into factory wiring not listed in instructions. I had to wire w/o adapter to get full range.
Pros: nice upgrade from stock. nice output with only head unit
Hooked up to 2014 Honda Accord. Stock speakers sounded better
Cons: No mids or bass
These are my first Polk speakers and I'm very happy with them. I'm used to Alpine Type R components, which are substantially more expensive, but the Type Rs wouldn't fit in my new car. These Polks do not disappoint though. I've heard that Polks don't have the crisp highs you get from Alpine or Infinity, but I find these speakers to be very well defined. I'm also impressed with the bass response given that they are only 5.25. The fact that they're waterproof is just icing on the cake. I have them hooked up to a Pioneer deck with 4v preouts and an Infinity Reference 75w x 4 amp. Great combo.
I thought the speakers were pretty easy to install. They have great sound quality and clear sound. The mids and highs held their own even with a sub in the car. Sounds great.
Pros: Easy install, Great sound. Clear sound
I got this speaker system because I was unhappy with the Kenwoods in the doors of my Ranger. After having installed the Polks, the difference is night and day. The tweeters really make up the difference in the highs. I videoed some music while playing and the playback sounds like a concert hall. I have them paired with Bose shelf speakers for the rear and they truly carry the bass well. Even though I dont have a sub, the amount of all combined have given me some great listening. Im powering them ftom the head unit of a Kenwood from the Excelon Series. There were two problems during the install. One was the wiring adapter, I didnt see where they went. Perhaps at the end of the wiring at the speaker to connect to the original wiring but my understanding was that they connected in the wiring harness itself, not. I replaced the original wiring in the door so no worries. The other issue was that the speakers wer smaller than the holes in the doors. I shouldve looked a little closer or measured but I couldve put a larger speaker there but Crutchfield did send an adapter that I thought was for use in the rear if I chose to install them there. I used them in the door and they were a lifesaver to have. Just had to drill to fit and then install speakers.
All in all, it took about ten hours to complete the install as I soldered and heat shrunk all connections to prevent loose wiring but very pleased with the final profuct.
I would recommend these to anyone.
Pros: Very clear Great adapter. Glad it was part of the package.
Cons: Couldve used a larger speaker that couldve been identified inside the shopping but, I couldve looked too.
Held off on these for quit a while do to the size of the crossover. When one of my DXI tweeters needed replacing I figured why not as they were only a few dollars more than the tweeters themselves. Wish I would have replaced the 525's in the dash sooner.
Pros: Marine rated , sound great with the Polk 6.5's in the sound bar. Would have given a 5 if the crossovers weren't so large.
Cons: Got to be a little inventive to put the crossovers up high behind the dash of a a jeep TJ. Makes you want more power than 45 w RMS
Great Polk quality. Crossover is solid and offers -3db, 0db, and +3db to help control tweeter brightness. Polk also provides in the box several options for mounting hardware for the tweeter, so you're covered no matter what you need. The woofer has great components, soft roll surround, solid cone. Per usual, Crutchfield supplied all the right mounting accessories.
Pros: Comes with lots of mounting hardware.
Cons: Wish it had a 6.5" twin
These speakers replaced the factory units in my 2013 Dodge Charger. I listened to speakers at a local stereo shop ranging from 400 to 600 dollars but decided to give these a try. I'm glad I did. The crisp clean sound from the separate tweeters blended perfectly with the components in the door. I added a 200 watt amplifier and the speakers handled it with no problem. Great product when used with a subwoofer.
Pros: Quality, sound, price
Well the Crutchfield guys tried to warn me that these speakers will neen power, but I did'nt listen. Don't get me wrong the speakers sound good, but they really do need an amp. The Crutchfield Sale rep warned me that the install would be tricky, he was right. Took me 2 nights, a Dremel and some imagination. I installed them in a 2003 Buick LeSabre and I will say that the tweeters were a challenge.
Pros: Well made, can be used for marine applications
Cons: Needs power to bring out the best sound.
Love this component speakers. Is easy to install and Technical support is a big help too. At first I thought one of the the tweeter is defective. I called the Technical Support and without asking bunch a questions they just ship you another one without having to wait you return the old item first.Excellent........
Really brightened and broadened the front sound-stage of my 05 Dodge Ram. Extreme clarity of the highs. Even better with the added amplification of the Alpine KTP-445A Power Pack. Not a plug and play install you need to find a place for the crossovers and tweeters but its not anything you can't manage with basic tools and patience.
Pros: Bright clear sound
Cons: Not a plug and play install
My wife wasn't happy when I told her I bought her some new car speakers. She stated "speakers are speakers, what's the difference?" Then she heard them for the first time, and her jaw dropped. These Polk Audio db5251 component speakers deliver some of the clearest music I have heard from a car stereo. The mids do an excellent job cleanly cranking out approximately 90%, while the tweeters effortlessly fill in the rest. I appreciate that the tweeters seem to be in perfect harmony with the mids, unlike other speaker sets where the tweeters can drown out everything else. Both the wife and I are very impressed with the sound, and the value. And as usual, Crutchfield offered up, free of charge, all adapters and connectors necessary to connect with the factory wiring. No harness-hacking required.
Pros: These speakers work perfectly together in just about any vehicle set up. The sound is clear and crisp, and the tweeters do not overpower the mid range speakers.
Cons: Depending on the vehicle, these can be a bit tricky to install, especially since the installation manual is completely useless.
I put these speakers in the rear pods on my ultra. Very tight fit. Had to mod the crossover to fit but I jammed them in there. Sound great and haven't blown them up yet. It's been about 2 weeks. I have blown other speakers. These seem to be holding up. I have a 520 watt soundstream amp hooked up to them. If the front ones go I will install these. Fronts are not stock. I smoked 3 bazooka speakers with that amp only at half power too.
Pros: Price and durability
Cons: Crossover needs to be smaller.
88 BMW 5series Was able to mount in the rear speaker enclosures without any external modifications (a little tricky mounting the tweeters but not hard) everything looks stock but sounds great.
Pros: I think they are a good value for the money. I got more sound than I paid for.
I already have Polk Audio surround sound speakers so when it came time to buy speakers for my truck they were the Only choice and I was right there car/ truck speakers have the same Quality sound as there home speakers do Get these speakers You won't regret it They Really Rock
Pros: Clear and Crisp
Cons: The cross over is really big and I had a small space to work with inside my door
I gave these speakers 3 stars because I was slightly disappointed after listening to them for the first time. I thought the sound was going to be a little richer. They do sound better than the factory. The mids are ok and the highs are much better than stock. There is virtually no bass. You definitely need a sub with these. For the price they are a decent choice. I am looking forward to getting my sub, I think it will sound really good when the sub is installed. Also, these are being powered by a JL xd400/4 parallel wired with my rear coaxial speakers at 2ohms. They are installed in a 2010 Mazda 6 non-Bose system with the factory head unit .
Pros: Good highs and mids
Cons: No bass
Dolly recommended these to me when we were going over my car audio stuff. I went with two sets of these for my 2005 Honda Civic. The sound from them is very clear and crisp. I was looking for a set of components with great highs and mid and these are it, they sound amazing. I have them running off of a Alpine F450 4x70 RMS and they jam =) I also had them installed by the experts ( yes shameless plug for you guys! ) at the Charlottesville Crutchfield. Everyone at their location was very helpful and very knowledgeable. These speakers sounded so clean and bright we also purchased a whole new Polk surround set up for our home as well from Crutchfield.
TLDR Bright, crisp, clean buy them!
Pros: Crisp, clean, bright
Love these, they provide detailed sound and good, tight bass, and mid range power, especially as it nears the lowest 50 hz frequency. No rattling like the previous Pioneer speakers that were installed.
Pros: Bass, crisp, clear, easy to install, clear instructions.
Cons: Doesn't play below 50 hz.
Love these crisp clear sound, good power handling. I would recommend these. Running off a Polk Audio 5 channel.
Pros: Crisp clean sound, good power handling.
Cons: Must be used w/ a good sub.
I installed these in the dash of the 2006 TJ with some brackets from another retailer for the 5 1/4". I then made some custom tweeter mounts along the A-piller of the windshield. I also replaced the rears with some 6 1/2 651s Polks. Combined with the Alpine mini amp and the Jeep now sounds great. Still using the factory deck and the factory sub seems to be still working as well so those will stay for now. The separate tweeter makes the difference in the Jeep! Sound is much clearer with the top off. I had installed the 6 1/2s first and tested them with the factory fronts and was worried that I wasted my money as they didn't sound that good. I put the components in the front and the rears now sound better as an overall package. The front speakers in the Jeep make more of a difference then the rears seem to.
Pros: Sound is better then expected.
Cons: Really none other then the extra fabrication needed to install the tweeters.
I just installed these in the front door of my 2012 f150, I have the basic head unit with sync and the speakers are great. They are really super clear. I can't wait to get them hooked up to a amp hopefully I will get some more kids when I do. I only wish the tweets would have fit in the factory mounts in the a post. I had to use a Drexel to open the location up and used the the tweet cups that came with the speakers.
Pros: Super clear
Cons: Tweet install
The speakers are great. No problem installing them. And the sound is pretty dollar for dollar......
Pros: Good Sound and Quality
Cons: None yet
Most newer vechicles have factory stock head units that output very low watts. Saves the car mfg's a lot of $. They make up for this by using speakers with extremely small magnets. In some cases, you can't even see the magnets, they are behind a small "cup" on the end of the speaker. Issue is that you are limited to the range you have with these factory speakers, and if you do change out the head unit, to one with more power, and push the speakers, you will blow them. So, we all buy these nice speakers with big magnets. They are supposed to produce the sound we like. Nice highs, full midrange, and deep lows. But it takes power to drive them. Like the new Chevy Silverados, etc. Install a decent set of speakers. Polk, Alpine, etc. and see what you get. If you use a component system, you will only hear the tweeters and you will be sadly disappointed. So, you need to either change out the head unit to one with at least 25 watts or better yet to add on a sub. This does not mean that you have to listen to the radio loud. It means that it has the power (watage) to move the speaker against the pull of the magnet. Once you provide the power, that is where you will hear your sound come alive. So for those that rate "disappointed" but using the stock head units, this is why. You can buy very inexpensive speakers that will work better than stock for use with your stock head unit. But upgrade both and then you have something worth listening to.
installed in my 03' sport trac and they sound great
Pros: better bass than stock, with the tweeters up higher im able to hear my music better when my windows are down on the highway
Cons: ... haven't found any yet
These tweeters are awesome, especially compared to the factory speakers which didn't have a seperate crossover. The front component speakers were the last pieces I needed to complete my setup. Since I didn't have hardly any highs on my factory tweeters, when I installed the fronts I put the selector switch on the crossover to +3db, which I later found was a mistake.(to high) I didn't want to take the door panel off so instead I adjusted the Crossover in my JVC amp.(great feature) I was still getting to much SUB from the back, which I suspect is just because the Mazda3 hatchback is small. I really didn't need that much so I adjusted the Sub's gain to 1/2. That did the trick and now the sound is perfectly balanced. The tweeters after adjustment are crisp & clear without being harsh & the sub has been tweeked down so as to not overpower the mids & highs. In other words, expect to spend a litte time to tweek the sound to your liking.
Pros: Crystal clear highs even under load.
Cons: No cons I can think of, love the speakers
This is my first set of component speakers in a vehicle. They are powered by a Boston Acoustics GTA-504 amplifier and I couldn't be happier. They are only getting about 50% of rated RMS power, so they wont make your ears bleed. However, they get plenty loud for a nice SQ system. Mids are tight and highs are crisp on the -3 tweeter setting. Makes my system sound like a concert in my 99 Mustang GT.
I bought these speakers as well as a set of Polk 6X9s for my Honda. Installation was fairly straightforward. The speakers are being driven by a 300W Rockford Fosgate amplifier and are mounted in my doors (Stock location, tweeters a bit above diagonally from the speakers). The sound quality is excellent and you can really hear the difference going from a 2 way to this component setup. As previous reviewers said you may need a sub with these if they are your primary speakers. In my car the 6X9s provide a bit of bass but I am looking to eventually add a small sub.
I got these for the roll bar on my 2003 jeep and they are a big improvment over stock if you have a amp. But do not expect any lows I mean after all their 5 1/4. Highs are great and mids are good would recomend.
I just paid this much for a set of these speakers and am so far really disappointed. I was replacing STOCK stereo speakers with these and yes I went with the 5 1/4 vs the 6 1/2 I had in the car. I am still on the factory head unit. These speakers require much more power than I can produce with the current head unit. Replacing with a kenwood double din and am going to add a amp. I expected much more out of these speakers and in hind sight I should have got the 3 way 6 1/2 inch speakers.
I hope these sound better with a nice big amp on them.
These speakers sound fine....but get a subwoofer. I just ordered an 8" Bazooka
tube because I can't hear any low end from these Polks with the engine running.
I realize they're only 5.25", but even my factory (Jeep) 5.25" speakers had SOME
Crutchfield experience was great as always.
speaker's sound great in my ridgeline. it was my first time buying after market speaker's
and will all ways return to polk audio if i need to buy for any other car or truck
These are a huge improvement over the stock Bose components in my Mazdaspeed3.
They are being fed 60RMS from an external 4 channel amp (not the stock Bose
amp). Nice clear, crisp music; this was a good purchase decision.
I installed these in my 2008 Nissa Xterra with a Pioneer DEH-P6000UB head unit and powered by a 2x100W and amp they sound amazing!
The installation was a bit rough but that was because of the size of the speaker wire I was using and the tight fit/angle of the rubber boot between the door and body. I also had to fabricate a bracket from ABS plastic to mount the tweeters. I was still able to use the stock tweeter grills on the dash after some trimming so nothing looks any different.
Once everything was in installed I cranked the volume and was initially disappointed. There was no bass to speak of and the treble was harsh and piercing - almost unlistenable! I thought I'd give them a few days to break in. After a week I didn't notice much change and thought I'd be returning them but first I decided to try and change around the EQ and sound settings on the stereo. That did it, as I was adjusting the settings my stock speakers had I could hear the bass coming in and I was able to remove the tinny sound of the treble. After a few more days the sound got even better!
It's been a few months now and I'm still impressed at how good the speakers continue to sound! They just seem to keep getting better. I've since bought a second pair for my wife's car.
The lesson I learned from these speakers is that a speaker maker's "sound" doesn't always carry over from its home speakers to the car. I based my purchase in part on the clear, transparent highs of my girlfriend's Polk bookshelf speakers and was very disappointed. The previous reviewer who was dissatisfied with the lower treble got it exactly right. To my ears they are splashy, smeared and totally lacking in fine detail. I've read in several forums that these speakers will calm down in a few months, but when you only have a 30-day window to decide of you'll keep them that's just not good enough. IMO speakers should sound good right out of the box and get better as they break in. The Boston speakers I replaced the Polks with do just that. Granted the Bostons cost about twice as much but they're worth every penny.
Ive had these speakers 3 days and love them !!!! At first they didn't put out but AFTER setting them up on my kenwood head unit and AMPLIFIER for speaker, bass, treble, speaker throw ect they came to life! I replaced an old pair of Boston Acoustics components that I blew up! My subwoofer was stolen and I over drove all my OLD speakers to make up for the missing bass!! Needless to say old component speakers even good ones can be blown up when pushed by a good amp to make up for a missing subwoofer! I bought a JL 12" 175 watt subwoofer and LOVE IT! It is clean and not muddy !!!!!So I went back to Crutchfield to get new component 51/2 speakers and decided on polk after speaking with crutchfield at length! I always buy the best$$$$$$$But this time I asked for advice and instead of shelling out $800+ But I took there word for these Polk speakers and was not disappointed! I know $800 speakers sound better but these speakers are great sounding speakers!!! And with the money I save I will get a new Kenwood head unit that puts out 4 volts to the amp not 2 volts like the old kenwood and will sound a LOT better!!!!!! So I win all around!! Reciever next then new rear 6 by9"for the back Great customer support!!
These speakers were suggested by the staff at Crutchfield for the front doors on my '08 F150. Install was a breeze and other than a little magician work for the crossover everything fit like a glove.
did not sound as expected. my stock speakers sound better on 09 accord. will try other speakers. very difficult instalation, need to drill holes.
I got these speakers to replace the factory dash mounted ones in my 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The tweeters were a great addition and fit perfect into the plastic molding that covers the side windshield pillars. They are mounted at the very top pointed downward so they are out of the elements and the highs reflect off of the windshield. I used different mounting brackets(metal) to fit the 5-1/4s.
I got these speakers to replace the 6x9 slot in my 03 Infiniti G35. I have to say that accompanied with the 2 sets of DB6501 6.5" it is really amazing
the SQL. I dont agree with the post below mine. I cant speak for the speakers by themselves, but the 3 sets of DB's pound just as heavy as my sub. Im not saying you wouldnt need a subwoofer to make the complete sound stage for sure. Although the mid bass with my Pieneer 600 watt amp pushing 75watts RMS to the 6.5"and 60watts RMS to the 5.5" they can only be played just a little over half volume before its to loud to even sit in the car without busting ear drums. Let me add that there is not a single bit of distortion from these speakers AT ALL. That is my pet peave the people that listen to their speakers so loud they distort. Also dont spend this much money on a set of speakers and keep a stock head unit it makes no since. I have an Alpine 9874 HU. So all in all I give this series a 5 star rating amazing highs very strong mids. If you deside to buy these you will not be disapointed.
I recently bit the bullet and added XM satellite radio to my car because the radio channels here are horrible!!! Once I got this unit I started enjoying the radio again therefore I needed some new sound. I was really into car audio back in the mid to late 80's so I've been absent for a number of years. I must warn you that my ears and eyes are very picky so I'm pretty hard on camera and audio reviews. To start I'd say that I'm happy with these component speakers but I'm not thrilled. I did not have any really great options in mounting them unless I wanted to tear up the stock appearance of my car's interior so I Just mounted the mids in the doors and the tweeters up in the side mirror brackets on the doors to give it a clean look. In the rear I have the DB series 5x7's just to keep it all the same. I kept the stock Ford Taurus head unit but added the Alpine MRP-300 amp to power all the speakers. I guess why I'm a little unhappy with the overall sound is that there is no such bass at all which means I'll have to spend more money to add a sub and another amp. I'm doing this as I speak from Crutchfield and it's not the fault of these speakers as they are not the type to give very mush bass response anyways. The reason why I'm a little disappointed with the four speakers is they don't sound like a unit working together. Its just kind of off where I've just not found the sweet spot yet.
I put these in my front doors to replace alphasonik components that recently went out on me, and I was truly amazed at the clarity and quality of the sound. They are hooked up to a class a/b 5-channel. 90 watts rms. I had no problems putting them into a 2000 saturn ls1.
Perfect Xmas gift... I have them installed in a 2003 Honda Civic and they sound great along side my Polk Full Range speakers in the back. They hit all the high note and can be harsh if you don't set them with advanced eq and put them along side a great sub (i have alpine type r). I am extremely happy with my purchase.
just finished installing these polk components in my wife's '99 miata. i was worried that i'd need an amp since i'm only powering them with a Pioneer DEH-2000MP head. but it sounds pretty good so far. i'm sure it would sound better with an amp, but i'm satisfied so far.
the miata door seems pretty big and could probably accomodate a 6 1/2" woofer instead of just the 5 1/4". but, i can't complain because these speakers went in pretty easily though i had to be a little creative with the tweeters. there is a stock place in the door panel for the tweets but these tweeters didn't fit perfectly so i had to use a small strap to hold everything in. and, the crossover presented another challenge. i ended up mounting the x-over in the door panel because routing additional speaker wires from the door to the cabin appeared nearly impossible.
These are amazing speakers. The sound quality is awesome. They fit perfectly in the back deck even though they are not listed as fitting. I did have to do some modifications to fit the tweeter in the back passenger doors. The speaker housing in the front did have to be shaved slightly to get the speakers to fit but it is all worth it.
Those speakers truly are amazing. They produce the best sound I ever heard from car speakers. The woofers sound great at both mids and lows. The tweeters aren't harsh at all. Those speakers sound amazingly natural. Cant wait till I get my second pair + amplifier, since I run them on my head unit, then start enjoying the true sound of high quality after market speakers.
I was a little skeptacle at first for buying a component setup...I powered these to a Rockford Fosgate P400 amp and WOW!! These suckers are amazing. I was used to hearing a little distortion with my stock speakers at high volume. I swapped them out with these and the bass and clarity that they produce is well worth every penny, ESPECIALLY after I found out how to tune my amp with Crutchfield's "How To" guide.
Just last year, I didn't know anything about car audio. With Crutchfield's step-by-step instructions and free wiring gear, anyone can install audio and have fun doing it.
I wouldn't reccomend any other component other than this one. You will not be disappointed.
I had recently just installed a 6 component speaker system in my car. I hooked these Polk Audio db5251 speakers and tweeters to my 5 channel amp, along with 2 rear speakers and 2 10" subs. This set of speakers are a definite buy. I got them from the scartch and dent, and they turned out just great. And my system as a whole is off the HOOK!!
I had these installed in my 2000 Acura TL flush mounted next to the door
handle. They are powered by the Alpine PDX-4.100 4 channel amp and I
had the doors dynamated. I just got done doing a 3000 mile trip with an 8
GB mp3 player and I absolutely did not want to leave the car. These things
are amazing sounding from rock, metal, rap, jazz, classical, you name it
these sound amazing. Couple these with a subwoofer and you will honestly
think you are at a concert. I turned my pioneer deck to 50 and it actually
became painful to keep it at that level. They sounded just as clear at
minimal amplification and maximum amplification. Pay the extra money if you
have it and have them mounted flush. You cannot go wrong with these
speakers. I think you could even go down for a cheaper class AB amp and
still get amazing results.
so i bought 2 sets of these, hooked them up to an 4 channel, and the signal is coming from an avic d3. i'll start with the positives. these suckers are loud. not only that, with a little tweaking, you can really get some decent bass. very clean and punchy. not a whole lot of distortion either, even at higher volumes.
for the negative, i have to say that these suckers are sharp. very sharp. if you like that, cool. if you like more natural sounding highs, these are not for you. no amount of tweaking will remove the harshness. you can minimize it, but if you power these and crank them, get ready for some serious harshness. i couldn't take it and had to replace them with something much more high end to get the sound i wanted.
still, this isn't bad for the price. just make sure you really like your highs blaring if you buy them.
First, the help and service from Crutchfield is the best!! They knew
everything about these speakers to make sure they fit in my car. The
midrange fit fine in doors but the tweeters I had installed in place of the
factory dash speakers. I had to have a bracket fabbed for this. But, I was
smart and bought the InstallCard and Crutchfield recommend a custom
shop for install. Installed w/o any problems. SPEAKERS SOUND better than
my home system! The frequency response from the midrange is superb!
The crips highs and mellow voice sounds from the tweeters are the best. I
hear nuances I never heard before. These can handle power. The more
power the better. I have 90W to each and these love it with NO
DISTORTION! Do not waste your money and hook these up to just a head
unit; get these hooked up to a 75-100W RMS amp per channel and you will
never regret spending the money for these!! Got them on sale too! CANT
I bought these for a convertible Mustang. I was going to spend more on a higher end Polk or JL component system, but decided due to the loud convertible and exhaust noise, it was not worth spending the extra money for higher quality for that environment. I'm very glad I didn't spend the extra money as these speakers far exceeded my perfromance expectations. Crystal clear highs & surprisly deep tight bass from a 5 1/4" speaker. I'd highly recommend this compnent speaker system.
i was not sure about getting polk's, because i had never used them or known anyone who has, but im glad i took the chance, i have not even hooked them up to an amp yet, just running them of the aftermarket radio and they still sound great, and the price could not be beat either.
I first installed these speakers and was using an MTX 280 (40 watts RMS x 2) to power them. I was ok with the way they sounded, but then I went and got a Kicker 350.2 (110 watts RMS x 2) and they sound louder and clearer than before. For 5.25 components, these really do play loud when enough power is put to them. I wouldn't recommend using the head unit to power these speakers, as they may sound ok, you won't get what you paid for out of them. If you are looking for a nice, loud, clear set of components, these Polks are a great choice.
I have to give kudos to polk for this masterpiece every speaker i have owned has blew except for these. i cant believe the crystal clear highs it has i can turn my system all the way up and no distortion and these get loud and im a 16 year old when i say loud i mean it
WOW!!!! These really brought my S-10 to life. I built a custome box behind the seats for my subs and a pannel to hold the polk 5 1/4's. i also put in kick panels to hold another pair. Best sounding speakers in my opinion. worth the cost. i have 80 watts per channel pushing them. sound is crisp and clear. But do not use the +3db on the cross over. would highly recomd theese speakers to any one in compatition, or just want good clean sounding system in their ride.
These Polk speaks kick butt! The highs are so clear and loud (amped at 100 watts per channel RMS) I can hear every nuance in my rock and roll. I never thought speakers could sound so good.
30 years of car installs. I knew what I wanted and why.
The tiny cab of my 04 Tacoma meant "think small, think tight" and think about efficient use of power.
I know Polk. You can just trust that you're buying a sturdy and strong performer that will last.
Crutchfield says I'd have to cut out the back of the factory mounting bracket to clear for depth. Nope! I did have to find one (1) shorter screw for the 6x8 to 5 1/4 adaptor because that one screw bottomed out on the factory basket but I had to cut nothing and I cleared everything. You better buy the XTC slim baffles. The through holes inside diameter in the adaptors are nearly as wide as the basket frames outside diameter. I used the baffles as an on-top/in-hole gasket/shim to create an excellent centered and baffled mount. I cut the basket/back out of the baffles. Easy. Dropped right in.
What I didn't know is the flush mount tweeter baskets dropped right in. NO CUSTOM MOUNTING. That was a thrill and a suprise.
I hoped to not have to add an amp but would if need be. Turns out the 22W RMS per from the Kenwood Excelon HU and the 93db efficiency of these Polks balance perfectly with a 100W/8 inch Bazooka. SPLs inside can be like standing behind a 747 at take off if you really like that sort of thing. DO NOT use the +3db setting on the crossover unless you are cutting glass.
This is a very pretty sounding system. Clean. Clear and that is from experience. This afternoon I finish fiberglass for the rear fill cabinets. Tomarrow Polk db460 4x6 go in for rear fill then I'm done.

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.
Woofer Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance polymer/mica composite mineral-filled cone. The cones are stiff and lightweight for big sound and low distortion.
Butyl Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use butyl rubber surrounds.
Kapton Voice Coil Formers: The low-mass 2-Layer 1" Kapton Voice Coil formers are lightweight for high sound output. Kapton's high melting temperature ensures high power handling and excellent reliability.Pole Plate Heat Sinks: The pole plate heat sinks promote better heat dissipation for superior power handling and reliability.
Silk/Polymer Composite Tweeters: The 1" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite tweeters provide clear, detailed highs.
Mounting: The supplied mounting cups allow you to surface- or flush-mount the tweeters. The tweeters swivel in the flush-mount housings, allowing you to adjust them for optimum imaging.

You will receive a total of (4) speakers, (2) tweeters and (2) 6 1/2 or 6 3/4) including the two component devices to drive both the front left, and front right or depending on where you install your speakers. I bought two sets of these for the front and rear of the vehicle. I also recommend installing a good Amp to allow for optimal sound, These speakers are designed for power. [ SCOTT Dec 22, 2015 ]
This component speaker system includes two 5-1/4" woofers, 2 tweeters, and 2 crossovers. So there would be 4 speakers total, 2 woofers, 2 tweeters. The two external crossovers direct the right frequencies to the tweeters and woofers to maximize their performance. [ Kenny Dec 22, 2015 ] Staff
