Our take on the Polk Audio db571

by Leigh Schoettinger
Polk Audio

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.

Polk's db571 speakers feature 5"x7"/6"x8" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction, enveloping you in bright musical detail. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio.

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

5x7/6x8 Speaker: This speaker can be used in both 5x7 and 6x8 applications. The supplied mounting adapter ring allows the speaker to adapt to a 5x7 cutout when top mounted, and should be used to achieve a good seal when bottom mounted in both 5x7 and 6x8 applications.

Woofer Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance polymer/mica composite mineral-filled cone. The cones are stiff and lightweight for big sound and low distortion.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use butyl rubber surrounds.

Kapton Voice Coil Former: The low-mass, 2-layer Kapton Voice Coil former is lightweight for high sound output. Kapton's high melting temperature (725°F) ensures high power handling and longer reliability.

Silk/Polymer Composite Tweeters: The 3/4" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite tweeters provide clear, detailed highs. The tweeters use neodymium magnets.

2-way Crossover Network: The built-in 2-way crossover network sends the appropriate frequencies to each driver for cleaner sound and better imaging.

Db571

Written By David, Yuma, AZ on Sunday, October 05, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Polk Audio was on sale at the time I bought these and in addition to the numerous good reviews, I went ahead and purchased two sets (required for my 2003 Expedition). They definitely sound more clear than the stock speakers. The speakers unfortunately didn't fit perfectly, but by using some gardening shear scissors I was able to cut off the two loops at the tips of the speakers. I also had to drill two holes as only two of the side mounts matched up with the stock holes.
Pros:
SQ way better than stock.
Cons:
Doesn't fit perfectly.

These speakers are a very nice upgrade over stock paper speakers. There is SIGNIFIGANTLY more bass and the sound is much clearer overall, even with the stock head unit. These were put in a 1999 F250 work truck that has a very lame am/fm receiver, very basic. The sound quality has dramatically improved.
Pros:
Vastly improved sound quality over stock speakers, Good price
Cons:
none

These speakers were a fast improvement from the stock speakers in my Mazda Tribute. Very easy to install and really helped up the high and mid range sound so my two subs would not over power the rest of the musical quality.
Pros:
easy to install, great sound, great look

Installed these speakers in a 2007 Ford F150. The instructions and the wiring harness made everything easy. Only took half an hour. The sound is a vast improvment on the stock speakers.. Bass is very clear and loud . The gold color of the speakers looks great through the grille on the doors. I would reccomend these to anyone looking for better sound even with my stock receiver( which I plan to upgrade next.
Pros:
great speaker, looks good, marine certified
Cons:
none

Have had other Polk Audio home products and thought these would meet higher expectations in my truck. While they are a good sounding speaker, they are not of the same quality as their home products. Really not much difference in sound between the factory ones I replaced.
Pros:
Polk name.
Cons:
Overall sound quality is not there.

These are the first oval speakers I have purchased in over 10 years. Happy to say I am very impressed with the sound. My highs currently seem a bit full of crackle but that is more than likely due to my not finetuning my system yet. I love the look and construction of these speakers.
Pros:
-Solid construction -Great value for price
Cons:
-Can't rotate/direct tweeter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Yes this is the ticket for real quilty some when you really want to hear everything that's going on in listening to your music. I've also noticed the fact that these speakers are built pretty durable as well as performance in their output of sound Quility. You can't go wrong using these speakers to get the job done with sound Quility.
Pros:
The pros here is simply sound Quility and the durability of the overall construction of these speakers. Now did I mention the Quility!!!
Cons:
The pros here is that I didn't take the opportunity of researching these speakers sooner. That to me is the con here.

Polk Delivers Again: Replacing FLM 5x7 Econoline Speakers

Written By ChazMan, Falls Church, VA on Tuesday, May 27, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polk db571 is an amazing upgrade to factory Ford 5x7. In my case, the foam surrounds had all but disappeared from age. Installation was virtualy painless.
Pros:
The marine certification and rubber surrounds are an ideal choice for a work truck. But the improvement in fidelity, clarity and efficiency is the real payoff.
Cons:
The plastic spacers provided to keep door trim off the surrounds are simply taped to the speaker frame, and have the potential to vibrate. I used a vinyl & rubber adhesive to glue the spacers firmly to each frame before installing.

Great Sound - 2012 Ford F150 Super Cab

Written By Dave, Williamstown MA on Monday, May 19, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Crutchfield adviser Cooper suggested these speakers, Polk Audio db571, to match up with my Pioneer AVIC 900BT. I took a long time to decide, having thought the Infinity Reference speakers would be better. I trusted Cooper and went with the Polk Audio speakers. I did however completely cover my doors with dynamat sound deadening material. This was suggested in another forum and was well worth the investment. The sound is crisp, full range and has a surprising level of punch. The equalizer of the Pioneer received allowed me to fine tune the speakers for my personal preferences. I initially installed one speakers and tested to see if it sounded better than the factory speaker and was disappointed. I did the same after installing the second speaker and was not impressed. After installing the third speaker I was thinking maybe I won't send them back. When finished with the complete install of all four speakers I was amazed at how good they sounded. After adjusting the equalizer I was completely sold on the fact that these were the best speakers in that size for the money I spent. The speakers were on sale buy one pair, get the second half price.
Pros:
Crisp highs, full range sound and surprising level of punch to the base. The speakers were a breeze to install and the adapters worked perfectly. I would highly recommend the Dynamat material
Cons:
May need hearing aids eventually! The speaker sound so good I'm playing them more often and louder than usual because they sound so good.

Written By Stevie V., Lansdowne, Pa. on Saturday, April 19, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speaker sound better than factory, but I would have liked a fuller sound. Also I think Crutchfield should have suggested the deadening pads for the doors, that would have made a difference. I learned about them afterward.
Pros:
Ease of installation, decent sound, the wiring adaptation was perfect.
Cons:
would have liked fuller sound.

I replaced my factory speakers in my 2003 F-150 supercrew (2 pair 5x7). I also have replaced the factory deck with a Pioneer DEH-X6600BT. I am running a Zapco 4x75 rms amp. These speakers sound exceptionally clean and crisp. Considering they are 5x7 coaxial speaker they are well worth the money. For what I am using them for they work great. Not sure how they handle lows since I am running a crossover. Didn't buy them for lows though. I would recommend them for a factory replacement any day.

the polk speakers I purchased work very well. I had upgraded the factory stereo with a pioneer from Crutchfield. they recommended the polk and other speakers as a upgrade from factory. what a difference. the factory would distort but not the polks. they where on sale which is even better. install was eazy. had to remove two tabs on each speaker to make them fit. a 5 min. job with a pair of end nippers not a problem at all. I am happy with everything I have purchased from Crutchfield. they sell good product and there install sheets are eazy to understand. I will keep buying.

Nice Sound

Written By David, Ringgold, GA on Monday, December 02, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Definitely a better sound than what I had in my 2001 F-250. When I pulled the panels, the speakers I pulled out were Eclipse, not stock, and these sounded WAY better than them. Powered through an aftermarket Pioneer head unit with no issues. Install was simple. After I had everything hooked up, it did leave me wanting more bass, but overall very pleased with the speakers. I had to cut and crimp the provided speaker wiring harness, but I assume that was because the previous owner of the truck had installed aftermarket speakers.

They are an upgrade over stock definitely but I have a head unit that puts out 14RMS and it blew out the midwoofers on 2 of the speakers.
Pros:
Bass doesn't cut out as fast as stock.
Cons:
The Bass doesn't sound really great at all and they can't handle a lot of wattage at all. Also I had 2 of my 4 speakers blow out.

These 5X7 speakers were extremely easy to install thanks to Crutchfield's excellent instruction sheet with photo illustrations coupled with the freed wiring harness adapter. I disconnected the factory tweeters in my Ford Fusion when I did the install and I'm so glad I did because the Polk's more than picked up the high end they were putting out. They sound is so smooth and detailed coupled with my Pioneer deck and Alpine power pack amp I know they will provide me with many years of listening enjoyment.

Excellent Value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent clarity to these speakers. They have great punch and performance while playing everything from Classical to Heavy Metal. High frequencies are awesome, and very crisp. The mid levels are very specific, and the speakers don't muddy a track in any of the songs I threw at them - you can hear the music as if each bandmember had his own speaker within the speaker. The low frequency tones are clear and do not hum, but rather thump, bump and kick effectively. I have a $150 price range Kenwood Receiver powering these Speakers, and play off a USB.
Pros:
Crisp well executed sound - resolution is EXCELLENT. Remnd me of themon Kardons in my 2013 ML.
Cons:
Mounting Brackets required modification to fit application. No big deal...

Excellent replacement speakers for OEM units that had rotted. Sound much better than originals ever sounded even with the original head unit.
Pros:
Fit, sound, and ease of installation
Cons:
Be careful to avoid interference with power window action.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed to buy speakers because 1 of the factory spaekers in my '06 F-150 was dying. Was only going to buy 1 pair of Alpines but it happened that Crutchfield had a buy one get one half off sale on the Polks so I got 2 pairs of them.. Was told by the customer service guy that there would be a big difference in sound even though I'm using the factory head unit. There wasn't. There was a very slight improvement in bottom end but the highs are harsh and strident and there is a large hole in the mid range. Either these are not very good or the factory speakers aren't that bad. I'm disappointed in their sound especially considering that I have a full set of large Polks for my home theater system and couldn't be happier with those. Maybe everything would improve with a new head unit or an amp.
Pros:
Decent low end for this type of speaker
Cons:
No mid range, harsh highs

A must for an upgrade to factory speakers. Works best for me w/ a sub.Running this off a 5 channel amp w/Polk Audio separates & JL stealth box
Pros:
Good upgrade from factory speakers, good power handling.
Cons:
Not enough bass, need a separate sub. But sounds really good w/ the addition of a decent sub & fine tuning.

These speakers immediately gave a noticible improvement over my factory speakers, which is what I was trying to accomplish since buying my 2010 truck.
Pros:
Very easy installation, exact instructions for my truck, sound is what I was looking for.
Cons:
After installation, needed to remove door panel again to turn one speaker around because a speaker wire was pulled out when the power window was rolled down.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just purchased a new ( to me ) truck. A 1999 F 150 super-cab. It had already installed an aftermarket receiver. It's a Alpine CDE-102, sounded really good. My Dad thought it was the best system he has herd in a auto before. I thought it was lacking just a bit, it was good I just thought it could be a little better. I thought the speakers were factory and thought aftermarkets would make it sound like I wanted. Didn't know exactly what I wanted but I knew a good place to look. (Crutchfield ) after surfing the site looking at all the what fits in my truck I still wasn't sure I was looking at punch from a e-mail ad , so I called the adviser hot line. the Adviser ask several questions my music and how I liked to listen and recommended these speakers. I received them in 2 days. I removed the door cards and found kenwood tri-axles. "Oh crap" not factory speakers!. Well I bought these might as well try them. Thanks Curtchfield adviser I could not be happier. these are clear and crisp. the highs and the mid-range is right there. can't wait to get my sub in now thanks again.
Pros:
good crisp highs and mids. very clear

Great speakers for price and brand. Got buy one second 50% off. Boston makes clean sound without distortion. Not going to blow out windows but clean and crisp. Running off factory deck till satalite radio contract done. Going to power with aftermarket deck soon. These speakers need power to show full potential(like most aftermarket) but make a difference with crappy factory unclean power. Not as dynamic as infinity but alot less expensive.
Pros:
Cleans up factory "buzz" great bargin.
Cons:
Need clean power to show full potential

A clear upgrade from the Factory speakers in my 2001 F-250 Crew Cab. Perfect fit to the stock locations, and with the included wire harness adapter from crutchfield, I had 4 speakers installed in 45 min. Not a lot louder with the factory deck, but much clearer.
Pros:
Great mids and highs with no distortion
Cons:
I dont have enough wattage yet to reallyget all these speakers have to offer.

Cheap, easy upgrade for crap 2011 F150 stock speakers.

Written By Mike S., North Ridgeville, Ohio on Wednesday, May 02, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Vast improvement over stock. Not what I would consider audiophile quality, but considering I am using the stock factory head unit, and no amps, subs, ect. I am satisfied with the sound - for now. Install was fairly simple, thanks to the instructions Cruthfield supplied with the speakers. If Crutchfield can stand a little constructive criticism, one of the first steps in the install instructions is to remove the cover behind the inside door handle, to access the bolt, but all the sheet shows is the cover already removed. It does not give a clue HOW to remove it! I found you need to get behind this cover on the lower left corner, while holding the handle away from the door, as if you were opening it, with some sort of hook type device, and pull sharply. I have an old window moulding clip removal tool that worked perfect for this. once I figured this out, the rest was fairly simple. I would recommend connecting the power window switch, and make sure everything is out of the way from anything that moves BEFORE you reinstall the door panel. I used cable ties to secure the adapter cables to a factory harness inside the door. Interesting observation, I think I may have figured out why the stock speakers sound so bad. On the speaker magnet of the FORD speaker, it reads, plain as day "MADE IN CHINA". Sure am glad I bought American! These must have cost Ford all of 80 cents each!
Pros:
Price, if you get the buy one - get one half price deal. Seem to be made from quality materials. Installation instructions included - for your vehicle.
Cons:
Not a "perfect" fit. Had to use some creative screw angles to use the factory holes, or you can redrill two of them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers were replacements for the ones in my 2002 Mercury Villager Van (pause for laughter). This is the second set of Polk Audio speakers that I have purchased from Crutchfield for two different vehicles (the Jeep were outstanding!!) . They were initially paired with a set of 4" Polk Audios but after pulling old rear speakers found that 2 sets of 5" by 7" in the vehicle were needed. Swap was a phone cal away and couldn't have been smoother! This was no fault of Crutchfield but with a vehicle built by Mercury and Nissan (more laughter) they changed size without notice. Interestingly, the front speakers used a front adopter from Ford and the rear from Nissan. Wire cutters please.. Also when installing two of the holes have to be drilled to make them speakers fit. Directions provided were helpful but not perfect (see above Ford Nissan comments). I added a Sound Ordinance amp sub combo. This sounds great with Kenwood system. Very happy with stereo but the Ford and Nissan combo made it somewhat difficult to install. See review for steering wheel controls for further details on that. The fact that the factory stereo, with cassette was not even listed by Crutchfield as existing-customer service again unbeatable...Sweet ride!
Pros:
Great sound and weatherproof. Also on sale!
Cons:
Buy some posi-taps and keep them around. Very handy when splicing. Also get some panel tools. Makes everything sooo much easier! Worth the cash because once you start buying from Crutchfield your stock systems will be on e-bay and you'll want their stuff in all your cars!!!

Really should be ran through an amp, but improved the sound in my truck cab just fine. Once again, Crutchfield comes through with some great speakers at a great price......Thanks!
Pros:

4 x 571's + Kenwood KAC-8405 rock. I also have a thunderform under back seat + KAC-8104D driving it. Plenty of oomph there. Pioneer 6800 HU does all the HP LP stuff well. I just need to tune it some more. Good recommendations on Crutchfield site for tuning. I think the polk's high efficiency make them suitable for use without an amp but may not make alot of bass.To get best sound drive em hard with an amp.
Pros:
good price and good specs with high efficiency
Cons:
None so far

Awesome speakers

Written By Barry R., Middle River MD on Monday, April 02, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

An awesome speaker for the money. Sounds great, the highs are chrisp and it has enough base. Teamed speakers with a Kenwood KDC-X596, no extra amp. When I ordered them I did not realize they are "marine use" approved. Although they are installed a truck, not a boat, humidity should not effect them over time. The speakers appear to be well made. I listen to mostly country. My 23 year old son put them through their paces with the stuff that 23 year olds listen to and he was also impressed. He thought I paid more than they sell for.
Pros:
Great sound. Got a buy a pair, get a pair half price deal, so they were a good value.
Cons:
Although they were the same size as the original speakers, the holes did not line up. I had to elongate the holes to use the existing screw holes. Not a big deal but added some time to the install.

great sounding speaker! with pioneer deh-4400hd head unit these sound great in my 2001 f150 ext cab! great replacement for factory. if you want thumping bass in anything you really need subwoofer. I love the crisp clear sound these produce. i put them in the front doors of my truck and pioneer ts-a6874r in rear for i wanted 3 ways with little more bass in the rear. this combo sounds great and with all Crutchfield's guides and diagrams this was an easy install and all fit perfect! polk audio gives an nice crisp sound and I listen to ac/dc to van halen, jason aldean to conway twitty , and kid rock to snoop dogg! like variety of music old and new and so far all has sounded great thru these speakers!! Great buy from Crutchfield with speakers harness it was a snap, plug and play baby!! instructions for door panel remaoval was right on! 10 - 15 minutes each door!!!!! With the adjustments in the pioneer deck you can get plenty of bass through these spekers, but again trunk thumping you need a subwoofer!
Pros:
crisp clean sound perfect fit easy install in ny truck clear at low or high volume

I replaced my factory door speakers with these.I wanted components but didn't have space for the passive crossovers. These actually have less bass than the factory speakers but higher highs which is optimal for me as I will be adding a subwoofer soon. All in all I am happy with them. The reason for the four stars is they didn't amaze me.Then again I'm one tough customer.
Pros:

I purchased 2 pairs of 5x7 Polk Audios for my 2010 F150 Crew cab after noticing the buy one & get the 2nd at half price promotion. I was surprised how much these speakers pump out. The sound is alot more clear and crisp. The bass is more solid than the factory speakers but decent when compared to others like Infinity. The harness and the instructional guide provided by Crutchfield made this task much easier than i expected. The guide included pictures of the step by step instructions for my specific vehicle. The harnesses worked like a charm. In all, i completed this task in under 2 hours. I rated these speakers and gave them a four because of their decent bass. Still, these speakers provide plenty of listening pleasure. Thank you Crutchfield for making my purchase a seamless and pleasurable experience.

Written By JBLEY, Alpha, NJ on Saturday, July 02, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers went in like a dream and sound great with moderate bass and treble. most music sounds better than the original speakers. I did notice, however, that when playing music at higher volumes, the bass will flatten a bit and the treble will give off little chirping sounds if it is set too high. I'm not sure if this is the speaker or the OEM stereo so I want to be fair about this review. I am a long time fan of Polk audio. Physical quality of the product was excellent, as always. And Crutchfield is just the best at instructions and adapters, hands down Awesome.

if you are listening to standard stuff, these are great replacements. If you intend to seriously rock out, I'd look into a preamp and splitting out the sounds.

I installed this in my 2011 F-150 front and back to replace the stock speakers as Ford continues to disappoint in that department. Great fit, excellent sound. I have not installed a sub yet so I don't know how well they will do with the lows but for just speakers, I highly recommend them. Sound is very clear and the bass is pretty decent without breaking the bank. From what I have heard on many forums and now from personal experience, if you have an F-150, these speakers are the way to go

Great Option for Factory Replacements

Written By TechGuru88, Atlanta, GA on Saturday, June 04, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a fantastic option for replacing factory speakers. They may seem a little expensive compared to others but they are well worth it. These speakers were installed on my 2003 Ford Mustang and they sound great. Highs and mids sound a lot clearer and highs sound brighter. Bass does seem a little disappointing compared to the factory speakers, but the bass is so much cleaner. Playing some classic rock with these makes it seem there is an actual bass drum somewhere in the car.

These speakers would also be an excellent choice if you are planning on installing a sub.

Please note that they are 5x7 speakers and not 6x8. Most Ford vehicles use 6x8 speakers (for what reason I can't figure out. Not too many 6x8 options in the aftermarket). These speakers will fit into the factory locations but in my case I was only able to use 2 out of the 4 factory screw locations. These speakers come with self tapping screws so you can fix that if you have the space. I did not have the space to do that so I installed the speakers with 2 screws. They seem to hold just fine and there is no rattling.

Not going to blow anyone away, but provides the best sounds of any door speakers

These speakers are decent, better than the factory that's for sure, good bass
and the clarity appears good. I replaced the rear factory set out of my Ford
F150, but now I am debating if I will replace the door speakers with the same
brand. Apparently, both speakers on my passenger side (front and rear) were
blown, so I can't really tell until I replace the front door speakers, if this brand
will suffice. The install was very easy, more difficulty with the truck moldings if
anything but all else was smooth.

Installed 2 sets of these in front and rear openings of 2005 Mustang. Running off an an amp pushing 50watts rms to each speaker, with the low pass filter set at 100, it only took six months to blow 2 of them. This is considered "field wear" and is not covered by warranty, despite the amps power being rated well within Polk's stated zone. When they did work the produced sound was rich and clear. I tuned them only to produce mid/high freq.s which they did well.

I have a 2011 F150 XLT. Crutchfield advisor recommended these and after reading the
reviews here I pulled the plug. I do not have a single regret. Factory speakers seemed
muddled. I had Polk in my previous vehicle and loved their sound. These do not
disappoint even powered only from factory HU. Plenty of sound which is crisp and
clean. I know the system would sound better adding a subwoofer but even without they
still put out some nice bass. Certainly will not shake the windows but enough for my
ears. I may add a sub later but will play as is for a few weeks then decide. Very nice
cost/performance combination. Highly recommend.

Great Replacement to Stock

Written By BrendanG, Middleboro, MA on Friday, February 18, 2011

Well, I had a little issue. One of my speakers came DOA, but I didn't notice it
until almost 20 days after I installed them. The woofer was not attached to the
tweeter, so the tweeter was getting 65Watts and was just garble.

I called Crutchfield, and within 2 days I was all set. They sent me a new one, I
sent them the broken one and didn't have to pay a thing.

These speakers make some sound! I put these into my rear door speakers(I don't
sit back there so I didn't notice the tweeter was busted right away) and they do
sound amazing! They hit from low to high very well and everything in between.

If you are looking to just replace your door speakers this is a great start!
