Dreaming about better sound in your car audio system? Do you want lows that are full and definitive? Highs that resonate with clarity? Stop dreaming! Polk's db Series db6500 component system uses 6-1/2" Dynamic Balance polymer/mica woofers to produce full, rich lows that are free of detail-robbing distortion. Rubber surrounds, Kapton voice coil formers, and pole plate heat sinks protect the woofers against the stresses of heat and time.

The liquid-cooled silk/polymer composite tweeters can be mounted in either flush- or surface-mount cups to project detailed highs where you want to hear them. The two-way crossover networks (4,000 Hz, 12 dB/octave) ensure smooth, well-balanced output, with built-in protection circuitry to guard your tweeters against accidental damage from high power. And you don't have to limit these speaker systems to your car — they've passed tough environmental testing that certifies them for marine use as well.

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

I absolutely love
these. These
tweeters are very
tinny, and have to
turn them down, but
once adjusted they
are very very nice.
these are powered by
a 100 watt amp and
couldnt really ask
for anything more.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are in a 2007 subaru outback, replacing the mediocre stock speakers. There is a huge improvement in sound at all frequencies. It took a little while to get used to the highs put out by these speakers, but after some adjustments on the new alpine deck and time to get used to hearing such high notes, I have grown to appreciate the range these speakers have. Mid-range is very good and lows are improved but could be better (I don't have a sub-woofer). Overall, I would definitely recommend these speakers!

Definately happy I picked this one for my 07 Sonata. Bass is deeper and the highs are clearer. Unfortunately since my car doesnt have an amp in it, I'm not getting the full experience, but it still sounds better than stock ya feel me. Cant wait till I get my subs and vid screen to go along with this ish.

So Far, So Good

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently added these to the front of my Dodge SRT-4 and they sound great. They are clean and smooth. The highs are crisp and clear without harshness or distortion. They are rated at 100 Watts RMS and I will soon be installing an amp putting out 80 Watts RMS per channel, so we shall see. The speakers themselves appear to be high quality. I flush-mounted the tweeters into the sail panels on my front doors and they look factory. Don't expect them to produce booming low-end bass; they are not made for that (that's what a sub-woofer does). They provide adaquate mid-bass. I am very happy with them so far. I have Polk dB 6x9s in the rear which compliment them perfectly. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a decent component set without spending too much cash. I also recommend buying them from crutchfield since they have great customer service and they provide you with the necessary mounting brackets, wiring harnesses, and detailed instuctions, all for FREE, and with FREE SHIPPING if you spend over a certain amount.

I just installed 2 set's of these in my 2001 Chevy Suburban . Man what a difference ! No more muddled or muffled sound from stock speakers . I can hear backgrounds in my music that I didn't know existed . I listen to just about everything from Rock to Classical , not much for Country though (Johnny Cash is great) Real nice crisp clean sound hooked up to my Alpine CDA-9883 H.U. , without an amp even but I'm planning on putting one in eventually . Easy to hook up and mount with all the included hardware from Crutchfield . Don't wate any longer , replace your factory speakers now ! I gave these speakers 4 out of 5 because there is always something better , somewhere , but for price I don't think these could be beat .

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I mounted these in my 95 F150 with a Pioneer 3900 head unit and have been very impressed with the detail, full sound, and impressive bass response. I listen to jazz, classical, and contemporary music and have heard details in familiar tracks that I never heard before. I understand lyrics in songs that were previously garbled. These speakers easily overcome road noise even in this old squeaky truck. I have been surprised that classic rock and metal tunes come across convincingly with these 6.5 inch woofers. I can rattle my doors with no obvious distortion. Just a really nice sound. Glad I bought these.
Re: service: I consulted with Ringo prior to the purchase and am very happy with his solid advice. The shipping dept destroyed my first set ordered from "scratch and dent" by sending them without proper packaging. However, they sent me a new stock replacement set immediately using overnight shipping at their expense. I simply couldn't ask for better service.

Should have bought them sooner

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm an Infinity guy and I swear by their subs, but after reading so many terrible reviews on the reference components and their super-harsh tweeters, I decided to stray from Infinity and see what Polk had to offer and I haven't regretted it. I've had a sub in my car (not the 928) for a while and while the deep bass was there, something was missing and it became obvious once I installed the Polks. The top end brightened up and for the first time in my car, I had midbass! The stock speaker was a 4x6 so I had to fabricate new mounts out of MDF, but it was worth the time and effort to get these in. You get so much more sound out of a large round speaker than a small oval one. I thought the highs were just a bit bright, but this is nothing an EQ can't fix. A lot of people say these things need an amp, but I found they do quite well off my Pioneer head unit. The fact that you can relocate the tweeters (if you so choose) is wonderful. Now, I no longer have tweeters firing into my legs and the sound is the same whether or not I have a passenger in the car. Last week I was reading these rave reviews and today I'm writing one. Like someone else said, if your car has 6.5" holes, buy these speakers, and if it doesn't, get out the rotozip and start cutting!

Major Upgrade

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these in my 2005 Subaru Legacy Limited for the front doors. The stock speakers were surrounded by cardboard! and made of junk paper, and a plastic basket with tiny magnets. The tweeters werre also plastic, even the cones! I SWEAR TO THIS, total garbage stock speakers.

When I installed these the difference was night and day, however A MAJOR RECOMMENDATION TO ALL is to plug the subs into the full range cable and not the sub out on the crossover, and then put the tweeters on the tweeter out of the crossover. that way the subs fill the low AND the midrange, and the tweeters get the highs, this gave my music a much FULLER sound rather then super highs and some lows.

Awesome Component Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these based on the reviews from others. I put them in my 1991 Acura Integra Hatchback. Let me just say that the sound blows away my previous Polk Audio Component speakers that I purchased over 8 years ago. Reason for replacing them was because one tweeter was dead. However prior to that happening it started to sound like it was making a hissing noise and made the music sound bad, but only on one side. Anyways I should have replaced them long ago, but didn't until recently with these components. They are powerful, and sound so much better and are very crisp. I have to turn done the treble control, because it is very sharp in making high frequency sound. I can't believe I paid $250 for the old setup and it didn't even sound like these speakers. Crutchfield has done very well with carrying these components. If you need replacements buy these. Good sound at an affordable price. Go Polk Audio!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just bought these for my Honda CRX (89) and mounted them in the rear speaker holes which Crutchfield provided the speaker brackets for me (Free!). These things are Awesome! I have Sony Xplod door speakers which are actually pretty decent sounding with the Sony Xplod head unit I have but these Polks knock the socks off the Xplod's. The sound is so much more clear than the Xplod's from the lows to the highs there is no comparison really. I'll be adding a set of these Polks for replacement of the door speakers now! Polk db6500's fit perfectly in my car without having to change my stock speaker grilles out at all.

Crutchfield's "Outfit my car" guide has worked for me with no hitches so far, Great job Crutchfield! Everything I have bought from Crutchfield has been processed with ease and the "Assistance" I have asked for here on the site has been attended to by quick and knowledgeable folks. As long as Crutchfield keeps up the great products and Excellent customer service, I'll be a customer for life!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It seems that this speaker has got alot of 5 star ratings. But I dont think they are that good. The tweeters are a little bright, and the midrange is a little harsh too. But fiddling with my eq, made them sound pretty good. Also no bass response to speak of, so u will need a sub to get bass below 90hz. But for the price, they are a good deal. You would have to spend over 300 dollars to get something better.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After using JBL GTO series coaxial speakers, I decided to upgrade to component speakers hoping for better quality sound and higher power handling. I purchased these speakers since they had a big discount on them and thought that they would sound good since over 80 people gave them a 5 stars rating. After installing them, I realized what a big mistake I made. These speakers sound horrible!!! The tweeters are excessively bright, the mids are weak and the bass is nonexistent. I am not looking for a tremendous amount of bass, but at least a decent amount and these speakers just dont have it. I had to drastically decrease the high frequency bands on my equalizer down by 5 increments in order to tone down the treble from the tweeters. But by doing that I ended up making the rear Polk db690 sounds very muddy and unclear. I also had to increase the mid range and low range frequencies to try and make the speakers sound decent. To me, it seems as though most of the vocals in my songs are coming from the tweeters. This makes even male singers with deep voices sound high pitch! I listen to pop, hip hop, & rock but they all sound bad with these speakers.

My sound system includes:
Alpine CDA-9887 Head Unit
JBL GTO755.6II amplifier
JBL GTO1204BP Subwoofer
Monster Cable 300 series interconnects
Rockford Fosgate power and speaker wires

After a week of breaking in (~25 hours) there seemed to be little difference in sound quality. I returned these speakers and got the JBL GTO607C 6.5" components instead. They sound great with no problems at all! This is my first time using Polk Audio and it has not been a good experience.

WOW! The quality of these speakers is amazing. Way better than my stock dodge ram speakers. Crutchfield did a great job on the installation aspect. One thing that I did that mey help some people is mount the sweeter to the trip plate crutchfield sent me. Just be sure that there is enough room for you to mount them and that they do not get in the way of the speaker. All in all a GREAT PRODUCT!

Better than Infinity

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed these today in my '91 Maxima. I replaced some 3 year old and obscenely abused infinity kappa 6 3/4" 2 ways in my door panels.

I've always known polk to build the best sounding speakers for "Real" rock (i.e. Black Label Society), not this sissy stuff that infests the radio nowadays. Infinity's have a good, clean sound, but have no where near the thick, "kick you in your butt" sound that polk's do.

6.5" Polks in a Focus front door

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Loved the specs of these Polks-looked around quite a bit and came back to Crutchfield for the second or fourth (fifth?)time around.Yes,I've been a repeat customer! In a nutshell-I bought these for my 07 Ford Focus ZX3.These *do* fit. There is @2.5" of mounting depth in the doors without a spacer.I used the Crutchfield supplied speaker adapters(which are supposed to be for the 5 1/4" speakers...they fit too!)-made the install a snap! The tweets fit in the side demister wells with a slight mod to the vent.Driven by the RF P200 50x2 amp... Amazing!
The sound from component speakers is like hearing the *real* music for the first time. Highly recommend these!
Thanks Crutchfield!!

I bought these speakers to replace some Infinity 6.5 2 ways I had mounted in my 97 Nissan Pickup. I thought by them being components, I would get a little more "boom" out of them. I was right!! These are great!! I'm running an Alpine 2 channel amp on them, which makes a difference also. If you are looking for a really great sounding set of speakers for a limited area, these are for you!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the stock 6.75 door speakers with this amazing set of components. Oh wow what a difference!! At this time I only have an Eclipse CD3000 running the show, but so far its doing a beautiful job!! I opted out of the foam speaker baffles because of what i read in the reviews.. (losing bass response etc) but due to the huge mounting bracket GM uses, there is still a little gap where the factory bracket sat. I lost bass response but gained the highs I have been longing for. Crisp clear just beautiful!! I plan and recommend an amp for these cause the 14 watts rms from the head unit alone do no justice. (at high volume I hear them struggling)

These I would recommend to anyone. A great speaker at a great price. And the sales team here at Crutchfield is second to none!!

Great speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound rather good. I replaced my factory Infinity system (blew a front woofer) with these and they sound good. I compared them to my VR650 CSI components that I have in another car as to sound they are somewhat comparable.
They don't have any adjustment settings for the tweeter, which I think would be nice so you could adjust it as you see fit, sometimes needed due to location of tweeter. For my application it sounds good but if I had to place them on the A pillar or sail pointing at you they could need a little attenuation or in some situations more. They do have a mid bass that is good however I still run a sub.
My overall view of these is great, they are a good deal. A very nice set of speakers

This is a very good speaker for the money. You might expect to pay more for a speaker to deliver a solid range of sound and also handle power well. But the thing that makes this purchase work is the support you get from the Crutchfield staff. They don't strand you to problems encountered during the installation. I had quite a few questions given these had to be integrated with existing components, some of them factory, while dealing with the auto manufacturer's wiring scheme. Good work guys!...and thanks.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are absolutely amazing. I have listened to Alpine, Fosgate, Infinity, etc. You name it and I have heard it and all I can say is these are THE BEST NON-COMPETITION SPEAKERS YOU CAN BUY!!! Sure there is always something out there that is slightly better than what you already have, but music quality in a car levels off right about where these speaker's limits are pushed. I can also honestly say that it outperforms MANY speakers that are two to three times the price of these. (That's $300-$400 speakers!) The best example I can give you is that listening to my music with the windows CLOSED from the OUTSIDE of the car and the same song sounds better in my car than numerous of my buddy's cars and trucks that sunk far more into their system than me. These things crave power and if you juice them up to 100W or more...you ears are gonna drip from delight. Give em a shot...and hey if you disagree...just return them before the 30 days are up!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers didn't impress me right out of the box. The speaker cone looked a little small in diameter for 6.5 inch speakers and they felt a little light. Once I installed them in the front doors with the speaker adapters (no foam baffles) in my 2004 Intrepid and began juicing them up with my 4-channel Fosgate amp, they responded very well. They produce a very satisfying range of sound and make the more-than-casual listener very happy. Don't expect a ton of bass; that's not what these seem to do. They add the fine detail to your music and improve clarity. I recommend at least 50 watts per channel RMS if you want to bring these close to their potential. If I could change any one thing about these speakers I'd want to see an angled tweeter mount. These tweeters are obstructive and take up a lot of effort even with only a surface mount. Have a place in mind before you buy... Also take the lack of angled tweeters into consideration. Overall, I love my new speakers and I'm happy I did business with real experts instead of the high school kid at the local place who can't answer any of my questions. Thanks Crutchfield. I took a risk and loved these, but I know that you'd have helped if I were dissatisfied with my purchase. It's always a pleasure.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace some blaupunkt 6.5 components that didn't meet my standards for an aftermarket speaker. After I installed these, I found out what an aftermarket speaker could be. The difference was amazing. The bass is deep and strong, the mids are accurate and the highs are brilliant. My only complaint might be that the highs are a little too bright, but that's easy to fix with a little EQ futzing. I'm not using an amp on these so there's no high-pass filter, yet the bass only gets muddy or distorted when I crank them waaay up. I have to turn them up so loud that it's too loud to enjoy to get them to sound bad.

In short, these are fantastic speakers and they are a great value.

I bought these hoping to UPGRADE my factory component speakers in my '03 4Runner. The factory speakers are not the expensive JBL upgrade option that Toyota offers, just the standard 4Runner package (but they are component in the front doors).

Anyway, I just finished installing, listening to and then uninstalling these speakers. They are flat, they have no bass, they sound like a tin can, Overall......much, much worse than my factory speakers.

But wait, it's doesn't stop there, they not only sound lousy, but they're grossly overpriced. These speakers should be selling for 10-20% of their price.

Sorry to beat up on them so bad, but I am VERY disappointed.

Not sure what everybody else is hearing out of these speakers that sounds so good to desrve high ratings and comments.

I'll be returning these if Crutchfield will take them back.....otherwise I guess I'll just chalk it up to a very expensive lesson.

Good luck everybody,

Finding a place for the x-overs was probably the hardest part of the install, but now my car sounds SWEEEEET!
Panasonic 8303U driving the whole system, and Dynamat Extreme to isolate the speakers from the door and rear deck. It DOES make a worthwhile difference!

The best component speaker value on the market today!

Written By Matthew, Pittsburgh, PA on Wednesday, May 23, 2007

These are phenominal speakers!! Last year, I bought a pair of these for my brother. Even on the head unit power (an Alpine) they sounded great!! Well, this year I decided to upgrade the stereo in my S2000, and I naturally thought of these Polks. I'm powering them with a Rockford Fosgate P450.4 at 60 watts per set. They will get LOUD with no distortion. The tweets do not have an attenuation setting, so they can be a little harsh at high volumes, but the equalizer can compensate for this with little loss of sound quality. For the price, I have not heard anything even close to these Polks. Plus, they are relatively shallow, so they will drop right in to most Japanese applications with no problems. For the price, I do not think there is a better speaker on the market.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers for the price! Mellow highs and a solid midrange with low power requirements make this a fantastic budget option. For my '02 Intrepid, I ended up fashioning a bracket to hold the tweeters out of wood and installed them in my door sail panels with the "flush" mounting option. They've held up well over the past 2+ years with only the Alpine head unit driving them. I would advise against sending frequencies below 80Hz at these, but that's true of any small loudspeaker. It's best leaving those frequencies to an amplified sub, otherwise the sound starts get distorted at anything above road noise level. With the exception of the custom bracket, Crutchfield supplied everything I needed. And when the factory wiring harness connectors weren't quite right, an email to my service adviser with a picture got a new set shipped at no cost to me.

Profile makes great amps for good prices. A side note, a buddy asked what kind of sub i had when these were playing. I laughed and told him that was just the speakers. These speakers are the best speakers I've ever heard. I took my truck out to the lake on 4/20 for senior ditch day and everyone told me that it sounded like a concert. I have 100 watts running to each of them and 200 watts powering a 12 inch typhoon behind the seat. People from across the lake said that I have a loud system. Now I am inspired to completly double my sound and order a complete second set of speakers, amps, and a woofer. You can't go wrong with these speakers. So hurry up and buy them!!!!!

Polk Rocks

Written By hiphopjunky87, West Plains, Missouri on Monday, April 16, 2007

First off i have these in a 1996 Dodge Neon since december and they have been through moisture, heat and freezing temperatures. They are easy to install but you might want to get the scocshe mounting bracket to get them snug. They have great sound and lots of midrange tone. Some people might say that the tweeters cant be aimed but if you use the surface mount, and you dont push the tweeter all the way in, you can angle them and point them in any direction you want. When you mount the crossover you must mount them in an open spot so they can cool down as you use them. As with any component set you must leave some breathing room. Dont turn the gain past half if your running more than 100 watts to them cause you'll wear them out. Polk makes this set awsome i just wish i would have waited a few months to get the 2007 set. Also, i recommend 14 gauge input wire from crossover to the amp. Good luck and if you want THE BEST SOUND FROM ANY SPEAKER MANUFATCURER BUY THE POLK COMPONENTS..... TRUST ME!!!!!!!

WOW! What is that ringing in my ears???

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a longtime fan of Polk, going back 15 years to my home system. I have a 2004 Envoy that came with the Bose upgrade system. Finally a CD got stuck in the deck and gave me all the excuse I needed to upgrade. I bought the Blaupunkt Long Beach DVD35 head unit, with the DB6500's for the front, DB651s for the rear. I never dreamed it could sound so good! It makes the upgraded Bose system that came with the SUV sound like a one speaker, pocket sized AM radio, complete with the old 8 track tape player on the side!! I knew it would be better but to say I am blown away with the clarity of sound would be the understatement of a lifetime. I highly recommend these speakers. While they are not the only component, they are without a doubt, the shining star of the set. Hook the old AM radio up to these speakers and it would probably sound like a live concert. WOW!! What a difference these made. They are a very solid performer!

Great Deal!

-Pioneer Premiere DEH-P590IB Head Unit
-Profile AP600 100W x 2 Car Amp to these speakers
-Polk Audio db 525 in the rear
-and these speakers of course

For the money I give these speakers a 5, you can do better with some focals and higher end speakers, but these speakers do sound mean

these speakers put out enough bass playing rock and country and sound great doing so, but if you're gonna be blasting rap your definitely going to want a sub, but if your going to be blasting out rap you dont need me to tell you that. for the casual hip hop listener you should be able to appreciate them without a sub. they deliver some crisp bass, just not a whole lot of it. I have my HPF set at between 50 and 63 MHZ usually.

Like some of the other reviews have stated, the tweeters are super bright and can hurt your ears, I just lowered the high frequencies through my head unit and now they are fine. Another review stated a 20-40 hour break-in period, which i also agree with, as they do sound great out of the box but seem to sound better now that they are loosened up a bit.

Also if your going to buy these speakers, get an amp. I like my profile AP600(mounted under my passenger seat). For the money I think its a really good amp. and makes for a great low-cost setup. I think that you can probably do better with a higher end amp though.

The only problem I have with these speakers is now that I have them I listen to my music way too loud because they sound so good and cant hear right after getting out of my car!

crank it up !!!!

My set up: Panasonic MXE CQ-C7403U CD/MP3 player
Polk Audio db6500 (front door)
Polk Audio db690 (rear deck)

CAUTION!! Do not be hesitant to buy component speakers because you are inexperienced with car audio. I am only 18 years old and installed all this myself. First of all let me complement crutchfield for its excellent customer service. they have people there almost all the time ready to talk you through any problem, and trust me i hit a few! they got me through them no problem!

Now about those speakers. SUPERB. these things really pump out the music, and i tried out everything from 311 to dave matthews to rich boy to DJ unk, all types of rock and hip/hop n R&B. they perform above my expectations way past volumes your ears appreciate. with the panasonic deck (excellent amplifier) has more then enough power to run these speakers, althought i must say i cant even imagine how much more wonderful theyd be with an external amp.

Sound great, get an amp - your best bang for your buck

Written By yallam, Columbus, OH on Tuesday, February 27, 2007

Purchased 1 yr ago, these db6500s sounded great out of the box temporarily directly connected to a Sony head unit.

I bought a 65Wx4 RMS (100Wx4 peak) amp and these things really woke up! All frequencies improved at all volume levels, significantly. Expect a substantial break-in period (20-40 hrs.), then be really impressed.

Using the HU, I brought the bass up to 6/10, the mids up to 7/10, and kept the treble down at 2/10, as these things are bright if you turn the treble up too loud. Theyre smooth, crisp, and clean without sounding metallic, but will hurt your ears at high volumes if the high range is cranked. I have a smaller vehicle (Isuzu Amigo / Rodeo Sport). The lows (and mids) sound pretty tight and accurate, but they wont thump if you like to feel the beat hit you in the back a little, but are overall extremely loud, and clear at any power level and you can still feel some bass vibrate the car inside. You can complete your system as I did with a Polk Momo sub. I got one 8-incher and it’s sufficient for a small car, unless you want to be a bit obnoxious. The sound is full and excellent at any earplug-free volume and as a system it was all a steal. Passengers are always quite impressed.

NOTES: I have these in the front, with the tweeters flush-mounted. I used a Dremel tool to CAREFULLY cut my door panels and flush-mount (rather than OEM recess-mount) the woofers so I could use the cool-looking grilles. I have db650 coaxials in the rear to round off the system. They sound great too. I used them as rears for fullness. FYI, you must get an amp! Marginally better speakers cost hundreds more.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was impressed with the high and midrange frequencies. However at high volumes the woofers would bottom out badly leading me to believe that the power handling rating is not accurate. They sounded pretty good until I lowered the 24db highpass x-over to 80htz, this is when the woofer really bottomed out creating severe distortion. I had to raise the x-over to nearly 120htz for the speakers to really get loud and sound good. This could be fine for most people but for an extra $75 or so you can do much better. Thanks to crutchfield for making the return of the speakers a breaze. By the way the efficiency is very good and these could run well off an high powered haed unit if that is your goal.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As my father and I have nearly identical Colorados, I bought two sets of these to replace the garbage speakers that came with them. The Polks are a vast improvement, and installation was fairly easy, even for a couple of complete amateurs. A word of warning though -- if you're going flush-mount the tweeters, you'll need to drill out GM's molded-in cover. If you're using a hole-saw bit in your drill, run it backwards. It takes a bit longer, but keeps the teeth of the bit from catching unexpectedly and wrenching it out of your starter hole. We learned this the hard way, and ended up gouging up my Dad's door-panel a little.

Great sound for a decent price

Got these for a 95 Toyota Corrola. These have a really good
too them. Not sure how well they handle the bass, as the receiver I just bought (a Dual XDM6820 CD Receiver) doesn't really deliver a lot of bass), but the sound is crisp and clear. As a sidenote, if you're putting these into a 1995 Toyota Corrola (or it may be any Corrola), be prepared to spend a LOT of time installing them. The reason is you can't replace the factory speakers from the trunk!! You must remove the read site, couple of side panels, the side cushions, rear brake light, and then remove the back panel (no joke). But, it's worth the effort. The brackets they supplied to mount the Polks were a little trick lining up the holes to the old assembly. My suggestion is to take the WHOLE speaker assembly out (just remove the three large screws), then mount the speakers to the plastic adapter, then mount the adapter to the old assembly.

These are great sounding speakers for a component system. I have them in my 00 Civic attached to a Pioneer head unit powered by a 1000W amp. They're extremely clear and crisp, and can get very lound. I wasn't personally satisfied with the bass from them so I ended up getting a sub in the back as well, but I couldn't be happier!

They Are Ok

Written By michael, Pottsville, Pa on Sunday, November 26, 2006

These speakers are good. But...I really dont think they are anything worth salivating over in my opinion. Being able to aim the surface mount tweeters would have been a nice option. They can be flush mounted also, but still cannot be aimed.
The drivers themselves are alot smaller than they look in the pictures. So mounting in the doors is no issue.

One thing thing that confuses is me is that they are labled as 6.5 inch speakers when in fact, they are closer to 6 and a quarter inch speakers.

This will be a consideration when buying 4x6 to 6.5 inch round adapters. The speaker is just too small to be attatched to these adapters.

I ended up throwing away the adapters I bought and made my own from 3/4 inch pine.

Plus, you will need to find a place to mount the crossovers.. Just another thing to keep in mind.

But in the end, they work well. They handle 100w rms. And they are staying in my doors for a long time.

I am not an audiophile by any means but I wanted to hear a clearer sound, hear the instruments and hear the music above any road noise (windows open or closed). These speakers satisfy all those needs. They sound terrific and the sound is excellent you can hear individual instruments, good bass, crisp highs, great mids. Try listening to The Who Live at Leeds - terrific.

I bought a pair of these due to reviews by previous customers. I installed them on my 2001 Honda Civic in the front doors. I had to bolt the Tweeters' housing to the factory housing. The stock tweeter housing would not allow the tweeter to be centered and it would pop out of the housing. Bolting the Polk housing on top of the stock housing works well. This almost gives the appearance that they are factory installed. I have not installed an amp as of yet but the sound quality is amazing. I was blown away. I can max out the volume without distortion. I am still running the stock stereo. (I will be upgrading shortly) I intended to install an old school amp. I also intend to buy another set of the Polk DB6500s for the rear of my car. I can not stress the quality of sound enough. They are loud crisp and clear. I am happy with the base from the woofers but I will be adding a pair of eights to get a little more thump.

I just installed these in the front doors of my 2002 Jetta, I have them running off a Pioneer DEH-P6800MP head unit an I used the factory crossover in my car. I had to surface mount the tweeters but that gives it that aftermarket look. Anyway onto these speakers, I have to say these speakers are the best I have installed in a car. The highs and mids are really clear. I get a headache when listening to some songs because of how clear they are. The lows are not as good as I hoped but once I get subwoofers that will take of that. I will be ordering more of these for my rear doors and then for kick panels.

I am now a believer!!!You dont have to spend a butt load of money on equipment to get good sound. I bought a pair of these components for the front doors of my toyota solara and the db690's for the back deck (Buy 1 get 1 half off). Well, hooked them up to the presicion power pcx-480 (80x4 rms 4 ohms) and the kenwood x590 cd player, and was blown away by the sound. I thought i was settling for a pair of components (I really wanted boston acoustic sl60, but for family reasons, i could not afford them.) Well i'm hear to tell you, these things get loud with no distortion. A lot more sound than i expected. I have no need to get anything thing else. The tweets can be a bit harsh at loud volumes, but that is easily adjusted with cd player or amp crossovers. The mids are great. Tight and Punchy, and doesnt distort due to bass (i have them xover at 92 hz at the amp 12 db slope). People cant believe i only have a 6.5 component set and 6x9's inside the car. They think I have speakers in the side panels and dash board (LOL). Hats off to Polk...Excellent product. If you give them the power they need, You wont be dissapointed.

I purchased these speakers for my wife's 2001 VW Passat. (The rear door speakers were blown out). I was skeptical that replacement speakers could sound as good as the ones that came with the Monsoon system. New this system had awesome sound. I read the reviews and took advantage of the special buy one pair get the second pair at half price. So I decided to purchase both front and rear door sets. It took me about 2.5 hours to put in all 4 door speakers. (I took my time, followed the Crutchfield directions and had the right tools).

These speakers are crisp, clear and sound fantastic at high volume. This was a great impulse purchase for me. Believe the reviews and ratings you read. They are great speakers and yes, a little better than the ones that came in the car.

the DB6500 component speakers were definitly worth it. I was powering 4 kicker 6.5" 2 way speakers off of my panasonic deck, with a kicker 15" solo baric L7. After hearing great reviews of these I decided to go for it. My car had had stock tweeters but they sounded awful. I mounted the tweeters in the front doors (stock front pillars would have been to hard to wire) and in the rear on hte pillars. I'm powering them with 2 sony 100x2 amps and they sound amazing. Everyone is blown away by the clarity. I turned it all the way up, opened the windows, and walked pretty far away from the car. Even at full volume I get no distortion and theyre just as clear as they are at any other volume. Flush mounting the tweeters was alot easier than I thought it'd be. definitly a great investment.

Installed them this weekend with the tweeters in the far corners all surface mounted reflecting off of the glass. Sounds absolutely incredible.

Right now im powering them with my Alpine 60Wx4 and i intend on getting the 110Wx4 infinity amp later on.

But the louder i turn it up, the better it sounds. If you're looking for a good set of components look no further. Buy these...

I just purchased a pair of these for the front doors of my Dodge Dakota regular cab, what a sound. I have listened to Bose systems in Nissans and Porsches, and the top-end Infinity system in my father's Chrysler, but the Polks deliver a clear, crisp sound the others can't compare to.

In combination with my Polk db650's in the rear, my cab rocks out to anything i throw at it. Installation took some time since I wanted the tweeters flush mounted for a clean look, but the result is more than I expected.

The bass at low speeds and parking lot gatherings is not earth-shaking, but for rock music, it is ideal. My side mirrors rattle without hesitation.

Next buy is a sleek Kenwood KSC-SW1 to fill in the low-end gaps my 4 Polk speakers lack, all feeding off my Pioneer head unit, it should be perfect.

Top Notch Speakers!

I purchased these after comparing the specs and reading the reviews on this site. I can honestly say I have not been dissapointed at all. These produce very crisp sound with amazing clarity. You will not go wrong with a set of these in your vehicle.

The only thing I didn't like is the way the wires mount in the crossover. They have to feed through the holes in the plastic crossover cover and then mount to the mount screws. This was an unnecessary pain to deal with. Obviously this has nothing to do with the speaker sound and quality but I thought I would mention it anyway.

Awesome set of speakers and I definitely would purchase them for another vehicle!

Installed in the front doors of my Subaru WRX STI. Wanted to use the Polkaudio MMC 650's however several sites including Crutchfield said they would not fit. Overall the db 6500's are a Huge improvement over the crappy OEM's that come from Subaru, plastic cages, very small magnets. The highs are very clean, with an overall very warm sound from highs to lows. Lows aren't great even with 75watts RMS. I also use the Kenwood KSC-SW1 under my passenger seat. With the Sub turned off the lows from the Polk's are a bit weak. But that's why I also installed the Sub. I must say the Kenwood Sub is fantastic, Huge sound for it's size and it fits nicely under the seat allowing the bass to be inside the car where it should be instead of the trunk for the neighbors to hear

Just a reminder for all upgraders that also install power amps. Be sure to setup and tune the amps to get the best sounds possible for your car. Especially if you have someone else do the install, since they may not spend the time to do it right.

I have to say, this pair of polks went on sale at Crutchfield and I purchased them. Never really a polk fan, I couldn't believe the rave reviews I had read. Well, they were well founded. I guess I missed the fact that these speakers not only had separate tweets, but a cute little crossover unit as well. I will never again purchase car speakers without crossover modules. I drilled out the holes high in the front doors and the woof/mid went the tradional locations where the old ones were. I tacked on a 4 channel 400 watt amp. Here's the result: I could not believe that any sound within a vehicle could sound this good. Even my audiophile friends were slack-jawed by my demo. (Good demo cuts: Sting, Metallica, ELP, Slipknot, Pink Floyd, Tears for Fears, Enya, etc.) I look forward to traffic jams now. I drive around the block three times before pulling in my driveway. Transformed my commute to the nth degree. Note- I put another set as well in the back seat, added a 200 W amp with a medium sized sub. Not cheap stuff, but I have no regrets. I guess I maxed out my Maxima. The star of the system, are these Polks. thx Crutchfield.
