Power and precision

Polk's db651 speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction, enveloping you in bright musical detail. And you can even pivot the tweeters, aiming them at your ears for improved stereo imaging. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio.

These speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware and muscular ABS grilles that will add a stylish touch to your car's interior. The supplied adapter rings enable the db651 speakers to fit into both 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings, ensuring an easy fit into VWs, Audis, BMWs, and other European imports.

Product Research

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofer Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance polymer/mica composite mineral-filled cone. The cones are stiff and lightweight for big sound and low distortion.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use butyl rubber surrounds.

Kapton Voice Coil Former: The low-mass Kapton Voice Coil former is lightweight for high sound output. Kapton's high melting temperature (725°F) ensures high power handling and longer reliability.

Silk/Polymer Composite Tweeters: The 3/4" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite tweeters provide clear, detailed highs. The tweeters use neodymium magnets.

Pivoting Tweeter: The tweeter pivots, allowing you to to aim it toward your listening position for better imaging.

2-way Crossover Network: The built-in 2-way crossover network sends the appropriate frequencies to each driver for cleaner sound and better imaging.

Mounting Rings: Without using the included adapter brackets the DB651 fits many factory 6-3/4" applications. While they will also fit standard 6-1/2 speaker openings, they do not use the industry standard bolt pattern. To fit most 6-1/2 locations, and additional 6-3/4 locations, the included adapter brackets must be installed. The brackets add 0.3" to the speakers' mounting height and subtract 0.3" from the mounting depth.

Grilles: Strong ABS plastic grilles are included. These computer optimized grilles are based on exclusive MOMO designs.

Marine Certification: Polk speakers are marine certified, making them a good choice for boats in fresh water, convertibles, motorcycles, ATVs, and other applications where the speaker might get wet. Because they have coated steel baskets and the terminals and crossover components are not covered, we do not recommend using them in salt water environments.

I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help compare the different models available and and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

Are these marine speakers?

A
These are "Marine" certified according to the Polk website. I have used them for the last 6 years in my boat and they still sound great!
mark  May 12, 2017

Thanks for your question. I'm sorry, no, these speakers are not rated for marine use. On the Crutchfield website if you just type "Marine" in the search box you will see a great selection of marine rated items. Hope this helps.

Q
how far/tall above the mounting surface/deck does the tweeter sit?
gary  Nov 07, 2016

A
The Polk db651 speakers have a mounting height of 0.882". The mounting height measures how tall the speaker is once its secured to the mounting surface. I hope that helps!

Q
Will it give decent output by my factory stereo?
gaurav  Sep 04, 2016

A
They had a good, crisp sound when I installed and used the factory head unit to power them. My only complaint with these was a lack of bass.
daniel  Sep 07, 2016
A
Yes it will they are great speakers
donald  Sep 06, 2016
A
I saw a solid increase in output while using the factory stereo/receiver.

Q
What is the total depth of the speaker mounted? i plan on mounting on my boat in a radar arch that is aprox 4 inches deep.
tim  Jul 31, 2016
2 answers
A
Think the total mounting depth is like 2.5 inches so you should have plenty of room on your boat!
nicholas  Aug 04, 2016
A
I believe 4 inches will provide enough room, but not much to spare. My speakers are mounted in Audioformz tube housings, so I didn't really have to worry about clearance, but as I recall, they're probably 3-4" deep.

Q
What is the mounting hole diameter for the speaker?
christopher  May 23, 2015

A
According to the manual, it's 5". The distance across the diameter of the speaker from screw hole to screw hole is 6 1/4 ".

THis went in my 2000 camaro So I dont remember the exact size. It fit fine but the mounting holes in the car were a bit diffetent.

Q
What is the diameter of the magnet on these speakers?
kevin  May 18, 2015
2 answers
A
The diameter of the magnet is 3 1/8" per my measurement. Diagram on box states 3 3/16", so you might go with that measurement to be safe. It protrudes about 2 1/16" from the rear surface of the mounting flange (i.e. required clearence depth.)

Not sure. Sorry they're mounted I did eyes fairing or my Harley.

Q
Will the Polk db651 work well and provide some mid-bass with only an Alpine head unit? I don't have an amplifier and don't plan on getting one. Thank you for your input.
joe  Feb 23, 2014

A
No, by my own experience you won't get the full potential of this speakers or any other speakers without an Amp. Head units are not design to move this type of speakers that's why you need an Amp.
antonio  Apr 21, 2014
A
I would have to say no... I have mine attached to the Alpine Inline Amp KTP-445 which is a phenomenal little amp that I truly recommend... now, I do drive a soft top jeep so there is very little capability of feeling the type of midbass you are looking for but with that said I can guarantee you that you wont get what you are looking for without the proper power to the speaker.

Well i have a 2013 wrx hatchback and a pioneer head unit with no amp going to them as well. The factory speakers appeared to have a little more bass but i think it was because the factories had a piece of foam that went between them and the plastic door covering. By the time i installed the polks with the additional spacers that were required for the screw holes there was no room for foam. Dont get me wrong im very happy with them and they do have some good mid bass for their size im just used to the bose factory door speakers that were in my last vehicle which was a chevy diesel silverado. That sytem with a sub and amp added was great. But i have fixed the lack of bass in the doors with a Sound Ordinance B-8P. Best money ive ever spent. I cant believe that something with 80 watts can have that much bass. Its actually cheaper right now on crutchfield than when i bought it. It has its own built in amp so no need for additional amp space. Check it out. The polks also have a great clear, clean sound to them compared to the muddled factory speakers. It really depends on your vehicles doors. If your doors are solid, you would probably get more bass out of the polks than i am. The wrx doesnt have very solid doors. They are kind of hollow and flimsy. Hope i helped!!

I think you will be happy with them I use a pioneer head unit and they sound good.I also hook an iPod to mine and they take a lot of bass but it seems like you have to turn the sound up more than I did with my stock speakers hope this helps i love the speakers work great
kevin michael  Feb 24, 2014
A
Any upgrade from stock speakers will sound better. I used the polks in my front doors and some kenwoods in te rear doors. The polks do not have as much bass as the kenwoods. I added a powered sub and now have freat high mid and low sound
kevin e  Feb 24, 2014
A
Yes these will provide plenty of mids with an aftermarket head unit
camden  Feb 24, 2014

I first installed these speakers on my Nissan Frontier with the factory radio and the sound was impressive. The base and mid-range required little equalizer adjustments. I would definitely recommend these speakers.
guillermo  Feb 24, 2014
A
Joe, I love my speakers. They are powered by a GM Bose system, which has a factory amp. They are very efficient and midrange is excellent. Sound better than the "Bose" speakers.
michael  Feb 24, 2014
A
I have the Polk db651 in a 08 Chevrolet 2500 with factory head unit and they sound great but would sound way better with a aftermarket head unit.
michael  Feb 24, 2014
A
No the Polk have almost no bass which I like, best thing is to run polks and get a kicker bass station.
