Give new life to your music

Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.

Polk's db651 speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction, enveloping you in bright musical detail. And you can even pivot the tweeters, aiming them at your ears for improved stereo imaging. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio.

These speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware and muscular ABS grilles that will add a stylish touch to your car's interior. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.

The supplied adapter rings enable the db651 speakers to fit into both 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings, ensuring an easy fit into VWs, Audis, BMWs, and other European imports.

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Excellent speakers

Written by: Michael from slidell, LA on February 8, 2016

Great sounding speakers. The included mountng plate was not useful for installing in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. I ended up prying the old speakers out of the original adapters and using them with the new speakers. Several mods had to be done to make it fit. Only after installing did I realize there was a METRA adapter listed on the website to make installation easier. I wish Crutchfield would have pointed it out instead of having to dig for it. My install would have been much easier.

Pros: Great speaker quality, great sound.

Cons: None if proper speaker adapter is used.

Great speaker for the price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were an absolute bargain! Polk has always made great speakers and these are no different. I'm currently running them straight off of a Pioneer headunit and they sound great! I can crank the volume and the sound stays clean. Of course, the fact that they come with Crutchfield's amazing support makes them an even better bargain.

Pros: Great sound. Outstanding value.

Cons: A little bright sounding, but that's easily fixed if your headunit has even a basic EQ.

DB651 GMC Canyon Crew Cab Rear Door Install

Written by: Richard from Saginaw Michigan on December 31, 2015

2006 GMC Canyon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers sound great! The Customer Service representative told me to buy the DB651 speakers over the kickers. I installed them in the rear so driving I notice a little difference. Also got rid of the blown factory speaker. That's a big plus. When you sit in the rear seats, wow, what a difference! They sound great. I love these speakers because of the swivel tweeter. I still have to position the tweeters. Only thing different from what is mentioned by crutchfield is that the rear doors in a 2006 GMC Canyon Crew Cab there has to be removal of metal. I just used tin snips since that's what I had available. It was a little road block but it was all well worth it. It's worth the $20 to go with these instead of the kickers just for the swivel tweeter!!! First time buyer from Crutchfield. So far so good. Next will be the DB651 component set for the front speakers.

Pros: Sound Great Great Highs and Mids, better bass over stock speakers All around great built speaker Swivel tweeter! Adapters are included! Everything was plug and play Crutchfield knows their stuff

Cons: Had to cut metal with tin snips, I tryed a dry fit into the door without bracket or foam ring. Hole was too small. Then tryed with bracket and foam ring, still too small. Drilled holes, screwed adapter bracket into place, then cut the metal away. Then it was all easy.

Nice, heavy duty speakers to replace some cheap, lightweight factory ones in the doors. Fit perfectly with the mounting bracket. Only thing missing were the blade connectors to attach to the speakers. I was hoping Crutchfield would include these.

Pros: Good fit, nice sound from factory radio. Big improvement from what was there.

Cons: Blade connectors should be included

Replaced the factory speakers with these. Had to drill new mounting holes, but nothing major. Didn't have to use the supplied mounting bracket. They fit great, look great and sound even better. Getting some pretty good bump from these 6.5" round drivers. I have used Polk Audio speakers before and have always been happy with my purchase.

2006 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding speakers to replace my dying factory driver door speakers in my 2006 Subaru Forester. I have the subwoofer and sail panel tweeters installed so the Polks are probably not as dramatic improvement as without but now the mids and lows are tighter for better sound balance. No install issues and no clearance issues with the window using the Polk supplied spacer/mounting ring. It is a close fit so I needed to make sure the wiring did not interfere with the window and I needed to use an existing hole in the door panel to bring the wiring from the rear of the speaker to the factory connector location at the front of the speaker.

Pros: Great sound Simple install Good price

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been into audio for a very long time and Polk audio makes great products. The db651 are great sounding speakers. I installed 4 of these in an Chevy Silverado 2500 that I use for work. They are powered with an Alpine head unit only. At first I was kind of skeptic on the sound but but realized with experience that their is a break in period. After a few days the sound is fantastic. I had to also adjust the parametric eq in the head unit because of the trucks acoustics. These have great bass and highs. Thumbs up Polk audio!

Pros: Great for the budget in mind

Cons: None

Best speakers

Written by: Shane from Virginia on June 27, 2015

I have installed polk speakers in all my vehicles these speakers are great. Highs and mids are excellent, lows are the best I've heard from a non amplified 6 1/2. Another thing I love is they are marine certified! Which some people may not understand that the inside of your door gets wet but fyi it does. I have even seen them fill with water like 1/4 of the door, but polk speakers are ok to get a wee bit wet! Thank you Polk engineers!

Pros: Marine certified, great range, lovely crisp sound

Cons: I have had one speaker fail before but it was 4 years old and in my drivers door which gets slammed often.

There is a clear sound quality improvement from my factory 6.5s in my subaru imprezza. Highs are.much higer and mids and lows much improved. Pushed by an alpine power pack, they are giving their all. Theyre priced nice yet i beleieve there are comparable if.not.slightly better options especially on sale. Dont get.me wrong, theyre solid performers and worth the money.

Pros: Big improvement over factory Hits the whole freq.range very well Do extremely well amplified to rms

Cons: Not much. Some better comparable options at a better price out there.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced my stock 6.5" speakers in my 2009 Silverado with these, and left the head unit in to test, and it was a HUGE change in quality just from the simple speaker swap. Easy to install, fit was correct, sound is way better than stock. Later added in an 8100NEX head unit and that upped the sound quality yet again. No amp, subs, tweeters, nothing else added, and the sound is good enough for me. No more muffled sounds and no distortion when turned up.

Pros: Good all around speaker, good price, easy install.

Cons: None

I was looking for a suitable replacement front speaker for my 07 GMC Sierra crew cab p/u that had given up . I was not necessarily looking for an inexpensive speaker but didn't want to pay hundreds a dollars either. These speakers seem to fit my primary requirements and the reviews encouraged me to purchase these speakers. After installing the speakers I am delighted that with the sound quality and range more than meets my expectations. Powered by aftermarket DVD tuner is a perfect combination.

Pros: Great sound quality and range. Good fit in original factory position

Cons: now I need to buy another pair for the rear doors

2004 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If I am comparing these to my stock speakers then they are a good speaker. The polk is a lot more clear and doesn't rattle with bass. I installed these in the front on a Nissan Frontier 2004 truck and the install was not super easy if you don't have experience. Nissan doesn't carry harness extension on the front speaker so you have to splice and use female terminal adapters. You have to use included bracket to screw speaker to car door. It's hard to give these speakers a fair review because I still have the stock radio which doesn't give it enough power, also I haven't compared them to other aftermarket speakers.

Pros: Upgrade over stock speakers

Cons: not an easy install and all parts needed for install not included (nissan frontier 2004)

Disappointed

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had these speaker in my Saturn Outlook for a couple of years, and I have finally gotten around to tearing them out. Possibly these speakers are a good value for the price paid, but they really aren't wonderful. I was told by Crutchfield that they were recommended because they reproduced better details in the music than other comparable speakers. Unfortunately, they have other major weaknesses such as harsh sound, raspy voices, 'static' like noise from the tweeters, and lack of smoothness. I am running these speakers on a Kenwood dnx890hd head unit and a Clarion XC1410 amp (4x50w). Power is not the problem.

I think that these speakers were my first recommendation from Crutchfield that was bad. Interestingly, I have called back several times for tips on how to make the sound quality better. Each time Crutchfield has insisted that my problem was not the speakers. Though most of the changes Crutchfield recommended has improved the sound, none of them have made the speakers sound good. (I have even resorted to rewiring the speaker from the Amp and that didn't really help). Honestly, I am suspicious as to why so many of the Crutchfield employees are recommending these speakers so much.

I have used Crutchfield on and off for over 20 years. This is the first time I have received truly bad advice.

Pros: Good at reproducing instrumentals in the mid range Provides a full sound when given enough power (Aftermarket head unit alone will not be sufficient though) Saturn Outlook is a huge SUV. These speakers are plenty loud. Bass is adequate. These speakers are definitely far better than the stock speakers.

Cons: Womens voices are especially raspy. None of the voice reproduction is clean - male or female. None of the sounds (voice or instrumental) are very smooth My ears fatigue quite quickly and need to turn them off after a while. There is a lot of harshness to the sound quality of these speakers

Disappointed. The factory AC Delco speakers sounded better than these.

Pros: Fit well, easy to install.

Cons: Does not improve sound quality.

Crutchfield response on January 14, 2015 That's a common reaction when replacing car speakers. What you can expect to hear from a new speaker is better clarity and definition in the mids and highs. So your music will sound better and more lifelike, but you might not hear more bass. The only way to get more bass is to add more power, and if you want to keep the factory radio, that means adding an amplifier. A small (40-50 watts), 4-channel amp can supply twice the power of an aftermarket stereo and three or four times the power of the typical factory radio. That'll improve all the sound, but you'll especially hear it in the fullness of the bass.

Installed in 2 pairs in a new car with stock HU so they are limited by a lack of power. They are still a noticeable improvement over the stock speakers. The construction quality seems excellent. My first purchase from Crutchfield and I am very happy. The included install instructions and the wire bracket to attach to the stock wiring was nice to have as I installed these in a leased car.

Pros: Good clarity and range. Great price

Cons: A little too bright for my taste - I feel the same way about Infinity speakers that I have heard - but with an amp and a sub and more eq control I'm sure I would be very happy with the sound.

I upgraded the factory Bose speakers in the front doors of my 2011 Tahoe. I think one of the factory speakers was blown, and they easily distorted at higher volume. The Polk's were definitely an improvement, although not as major as I had expected. Good highs/mids, not a ton of bass (which I didn't expect from a speaker in this price range). Fast shipping from Crutchfield. Included instructions weren't bad, but I'd recommend doing some Internet research on pulling your door panels if you're not familiar with doing it.

Makes you go through your music selection again to hear the new details. I put the DB6501 up front and these in the back. Installed these in the rear doors of my '09 Subaru Forester (paired with DB651S in the front and powered by 22 watt JVC head unit) and they sound so much better than the stock factory speakers. I put them through their paces with a variety of music from driving drums and bass to intricate instrumentals to subtle vocals. Everything sounded tremendous, although I did detect some buzziness when I boosted the bass level on the EQ. However, this may be a result of my installation - I'll check it in the coming days - as I installed the rear doors first before I was completely confident of what I was doing.

Pros: Great sound reproduction. Well made. Fit vehicle well. Efficient (produce much more sound than factory speakers at the same volume level).

The Polk speakers recommended by the experts at Crutchfield did a great job assisting me with the upgrade. I used the Polk speakers as an upgrade from the factory Bose speakers and I couldn't be more pleased. These speakers were a definite upgrade from what I had previously in my Tahoe. The sound is much more complete and the fit was good as well. Great speakers !

Pros: Great fit with minimal work during the install. Very full sound across all frequencies. Well built speakers that should last a long time.

Cons: Some reworking had to be done to fit these into my rear door cutouts. Small plastic tabs on the door had to be ground off with a Dremel tool. This only took a few minutes to correctly place the speakers into the rear doors.

2005 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2nd time I have bought from Crutchfield. Installed in rear door of 2005 Nissan Frontier. Pretty straight forward, did have to drill out the mounting plate holes as they were way to small to get the speaker screws started straight. Also had to extend the bottom mounting whole a quarter of inch to match factory door mount. Any way speakers sound great! Bass for classic rock hits pretty hard. Powered by a 25watt JVC head unit I bought last year. Was going to get amp and sub next year but might not have too. Can hardly wait to hear speakers once they are broken in, since I have heard they sound better after a several hour breakin.

Pros: Sound is great for classic rock. Bass was much better them expected when I listened to Boston's More Than A Feeling. Also sounds great when playing the 1812 Overture.

Cons: Mounting bracket had to be drilled, speed clips provided by Polk had to be removed in order to fit in factory mount.

2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 2011 Silverado 2500HD came with a Bose Audio System. You would think that if Bose was going to put their name on something and maybe introduce someone that has never heard any of their product before, they would want to do a lot better than this. After upgrading the front speakers to the Polks there was definitely an improvement. Brighter and smoother top end and a little less distortion at louder levels. But not a significant change.

Pros: Better high frequency response than the factory speaker. Less distortion.

Cons: Not worth the cost and labor. Looks like to get the improvement I expected I'll have to revamp the whole system.

Let the music flow.

Both the Polk Audio db651 & db651s sound great with my stock 2006 GMC Sierra Crew Cab truck radio. As expected the radio volume is turned up just a bit as the speakers use more amps. My design criteria was to replace speakers and have a clearer sound. The base is adequate for my ears that are north of age 50. Now I'm back to cleaning & detailing the truck.

Pros: The speakers preform and sound better than the factory speakers.

2006 Toyota Tacoma
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These sound okay but could be better. Maybe because it's only 6.5"? I got these to replace my 6x9's because the tech guys at Crutchfield told me that aftermarket 6x9's will not fit. I would have to get 6.5" with adapter plate. Well, I tried that and they fit but the sound size is very small compared to my stock 6x9's, so I returned these speakers back to Crutchfield. I did some sizing up and had bought some Polk 6x9 speakers. The tech was right that they didn't fit but, all I needed is an adapter ring for the 6x9. And guess where I found one? I used my stock Toyota 6x9 speakers and removed the cone and installed the new aftermarket 6x9 into the Toyota adapter. WaLa! It fit perfectly! And it sounds great too! I don't know why I haven't seen any tech forums suggesting this. It was so easy! Plus, I didn't need a wiring harness; I just soldered some new speaker wires onto the existing Toyota connector. Can you say plug and play?

Pros: If you have a Toyota Tacoma you can use an aftermarket 6x9's as long as you reuse the Toyota adapter.

Cons: Too small of sound!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The db651 is a nice speaker. Very smooth highs with no harshness and ample bass--it really moves some air. Sound MUCH better than VW Jetta MKVI factory speakers. I had the Polk DXi series installed in a different car with a different head unit. They were nice too, but I like the db series better. The DXi series seemed too sharp on the high end. Not the case with these.

Pros: Smooth highs. You can adjust the tweeter.

Cons: None with the speakers themselves. If you are installing in a VW Jetta Mk VI, the speakers will be a good 1.5" away from the door panel--Crutchfield doesn't supply a spacer like the factory speakers have, so some of your sound will get lost behind the door panel. Crutchfield has no installation instructions for the Jetta MKVI either. Really? The top selling VW car? Come on, Crutchfield.

2003 Dodge Dakota
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Finished installing these earlier today, and I already love them! They replaced an older set of Polk's that had been driven hard for eight years and finally wore out, (model db650, bought here from Crutchfield back in 2005). These newer db651's are everything I hoped they would be. I have a 12-inch subwoofer, so I was unconcerned from the start about whether these Polks had good bass or not. Using the head unit's high-pass filter, I cut off frequencies below 80Hz to these Polks. Just love the warm tweeters! Marvelous! I absolutely love these Polks! The warmth of the tweeters is the very reason I bought db's a second time.

Pros: Clear and warm sound quality. Absolutely delightful!

Cons: Crutchfield's fit guide does not appear to be entirely accurate for my vehicle. I installed these in a 2003 Dodge Dakota club-cab. Fit-guide says these don't fit in the front door location. I think this might be true if attempting to re-use the Dodge factory bracket, which make the speakers protrude out approx. ¾-inch from the door's sheet metal, but it is not necessary to use the Dodge bracket. You can use the included Polk bracket or the Crutchfield supplied Scoche bracket and mount direct

Works for me!

I was a little hesitant on buying these as I figured crutchfield was just trying to sell polk and I was looking at another name brand but went ahead and ordered these. They came several days later and I installed them in my denali which was super easy. The music that came out was nice, crisp and clear so I am happy to have them. I have a factory amp and these speakers come alive. As everyone else has said if you want bass then add subs which I did and the polks complement the entire sound system. If you want great highs mixed with mids then buy these polk speakers you cant go wrong.

Outstanding Speakers

Written by: Derrick from NJ on June 19, 2013

Great sounding speakers for the money! At first i didnt like the amount of bass that they produced and was a little worried about it. Then roughly 1 month later they completely blow me away!! Alot of people seem to not know about a speakers break in time to really shine you need at least 80 to 100 hours of break in time and within that period do not turn them up past 3/4 of the volume if it is connected to a head unit and 1/2 way if connected to an amplifier. Trust me it is well worth the wait!!!!

Pros: Best 6.5 speakers for the money!!! Deep satisfying bass around 50hz and the mids are clean and highs are on the flat note (unlike infinity) which is the kind of sound i prefer!

Cons: The fact that we have to break the speakers in!!!

I recently purchased a 2005 GMC Serria 1500 Crew Cab and the door speakers were shot. I decided to replace them with the Polk Audio db651 speakers and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The installation was fairly easy and the adaptors included made the speaker wire connections a snap. Just be sure to watch the video on YouTube first to make getting the door panels off eaiser. If you're not handy with a drill and figuring out how to adapt the front speakers to fit, you might want to get a friend to help. The speakers sounded a little flat at first but after a few days they sounded great. Good bass, midrange and treble. If the CD player in my stock radio wasn't broken I wouldn't change it. That will be my next project and I'll probably come back to Crutchfield for that.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these to go with my JVC head unit in my truck and they sound great. I've had a lot of good experience with Polk DB speakers in the past and these were even better than I thought. I was expecting the bass to be non-existent or very weak, but they are very well rounded and actually thump a little depending on the music. (Your results may vary...it may just be my truck door cavity carries the low notes better than other car doors.) Of course the highs and mids are very good, which is pretty much a given for most Polk speakers and why I chose these in the first place. I bought some pioneer 6.5" speakers for half the price of the Polks to put in the rear just for fill and they sound crappy compared with the Polks. If I had to do it again I would probably get another pair of Polks for the rear, but oh well. That's what you get for trying to save money. Overall they are a great sounding co-axial speaker and worth the price. They are probably about as good as it gets for this configuration unless you step up to component speakerI would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a well performing speaker in this price range.

Pros: Great sound, well rounded, good value for the price

Cons: Don't like the grille cover design, but I didn't need them as they are behind the factory door panel screens anyway

My wife is no audiophile, but she immediately noted the brighter and crisper treble, as well as the tighter, deeper, and more accurate bass response. With the 2013 Sportage, you do NOT have to use the "slim" versions of these speakers, and the factory head unit has more than enough power to drive them.

Clear precise sound is my opinion of this product. A driver of this size is not capable of delivering a lot of bass, but neither is any other driver of this size. After 2 month of use them and switch them from front doors to back doors few times I can tell you that. Polk Audio db651 has a little more BASS but less MIDS and HIS and sounds great. I left them in the rear doors. Polk Audio db651S in the front doors has less BASS but excellent MIDS and excellent HIS. I spoke with a Crutchfield adviser and after I told him axactly what I had for a head unit, he reccomended the Polks. I was looking at marine speakers which were more money. Well I got them and installed them right away. Holy cow!!! The sound was great. I didn't even need an amp. This was last year I installed them on my open boat and they still sound great. I hose them down lightly when I wash the boat and it doesn't seem to bother them. Well, This new season I decided to change the head unit and also add a third set of speakers so I ordered the Polks again. I received them a few days ago and can't wait to install them in the boat. The four sound great with the new head unit so I know that adding two more is only going to make it sound even better. I trust Crutchfield with all of my car and marine audio.

No problem with the fit except that the holes in the mounting ring need to be enlarged slightly to match up with the factory holes in the doors. This is in the instructions.

I wish that the Crutchfield kit came with a wiring adapter. It takes some time to cut out the factory plug and splice the wires. Make sure that you have some wiring connections or solder if that's your thing.

I installed these speakers on my Goldwing 1800 Trike. db501 in the rear are crisp, great clarity, and enormous treble. db651 in the front are not what I had expected. Even with the treble control turned off, they are still extremely tinny. The are unable to handle bass control at any decent level. They distort immediately when any reasonable amount of bass is used. For the price of the db651s, I would expect a better quality speaker.

after installing these in a 2003 four winns, I had pretty low expectations as far as what the stock speakers put out. I finally had a day on the lake and to say I was impressed is an understatement. The speakers added a nice bass punch without thumping like some of the big systems. The speakers installed easily and have delivered everything I had hoped for a marine speaker. I highly recommend for fellow boaters.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice quality and performance for the price point. Along with the promotional discount offer for a second set at half price the total price per speaker came out to about 37$ per speaker.

A musical instrument produces a characteristic sound because of the combination of the fundamental and harmonic frequencies. The detail and texture added to the mid and low range after upgrading to Polk DB651 is nothing less than awesome. I can hear every single note as though it were live. My Factory Monsoon sound system always sounded a little "tinny" to me. Now it's richer and the bass kicks every detail.

Speaker sensitivity is a measurement of the amount of sound output derived from a speaker with one watt of power input from an amplifier. The DB651 is very efficient at 92db and will maximize the performance of a stock car radio/amplifier. My Jetta Monsoon has gone from "okay" to driving you out of the car at half volume.

Awesome result for a simple speaker refresh. Crutchfield Rocks!

Great mid-bass and mids, but highs are overwhelming

Written by: afish01 from Minneapolis on April 25, 2011

I got these for the front doors in my 2002 Civic sedan (yes, they do fit as long as
you get the right adapter ring). I have them hooked up to an Alpine 4-channel
amp, so each speaker gets 50 watts RMS. They can really pump out the mid-
bass and the mid range is very good--vocals sound very clear and clean.
However, I am disappointed with the tweeters, as they are very overpowering,
so much that at normal listening levels they were really hurting my ears. I had to
use my head unit's equalizer to turn down all frequencies above 5KHz by about
3dB. However, after this tweak, the tweeters do sound good and provide
excellent detail to the music. Just be warned that if you do not have a way of
turning down treble frequencies on your source unit, you may find these
speakers way too "bright."

ATTN: JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS

Written by: Holtz from Cincinnati, OH on March 14, 2011

After intense browsing for weeks and weeks I decided to go with the polk db651 for a few simple reasons.
1.) Decibel sensitivity is 92dB (no amplifier required)
2.) Marine Certified (extremely important in a Jeep) and...
3.) Price!$! (with FREE installation gear you can't beat the price.)

I read countless reviews and spec sheets and received mixed signals as to whether 6.5" speakers would actually fit into a soundbar w/out cutting or drilling. With the spacer/adapter bracket provided all you have to do is cut a bit of the cloth covering to make room for the adapter ring. Once this is done you can take the bracket and line up the holes on the inside with the holes already drilled into the soundbar that were used to secure the stock 5.25" speakers. Once you have secured the bracket to the soundbar all you have to do is connect the female and males ends from the speaker to the housing in the soundbar then screw the speaker into the bracket and you're finished!

I awarded this speaker with 4 stars for sound quality with an additional star for make, look and features. When compared to the stock speakers the Polk blew them out of the water. I can't speak for all 6.5" speakers but I can say that these trump big names such as MTX, Sony Xplode, Kenwood and Pioneer. Keep in mind that there are indeed speakers that top these Polks any day but not if your spending less than $150 for a pair of mid-range speakers.

I installed these speakers in my 2006 VW Passat with the factory head. They sound great! I have had them installed for about 2 weeks now so I can't give a review on how long they will last.

I don't need a lot of bass and these give me plenty. I am sure when I get around to replacing the factory head (with more power) they will sound even better.

I was a little disappointed with crutchfield's instructions. I would only give them 3.5 out of 5. I have purchased from them in the past and the installation instructions have always been top notch. The instructions got my door panels off but they neglected to include instructions for disconnecting several of the door controller connectors. Also the pictures were not as detailed as in the past.

They told me these speakers would not fit in my rear doors. They fit better in the rear doors than they did in the front doors. The front doors required a bit a custom mounting (which I was aware of). These simply fit right into place in the rear doors. I'm glad I took the gamble.

This is my second pair in a 2001 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab 4 door. They say that
you have to purchase the short db651S for the front, do not believe it. The db651 fit
perfectly. They are incredible! I absolutely love Polk's sound as well. Had the front
rocking with the factory head unit for a couple of years. I recently just bought a second
pair for the rear. The rear doors call for 4x6, plate, or 4" with adapter. It was SO easy to
cut a small amout of 18ga. steel from the top and bottom of the hole (these require a 5"
hole, the rest is overlap), drilled my own holes and used steel threading screws AND
the little nut clips. They sound INCREDIBLE! My truck blows me away now! I also added
the Kenwood KDC-HD545U! Also HIGHLY recommend. Plenty of crystal clear MOSFET
power to pump all 4 and blow you away! I probably won't even add a subwoofer under
the rear seat now. No need to. They push rock, metal, ska, techno, everything I can throw
at them from my iPhone, iPod, thumb drive, CD, or the built in HD tuner. Get these bad

They sound much better with great clarity and depth. I read some reviews about bass

I bought these per the recommendation of the Crutchfield salesman. They had a real low
bass frequency spec and they really do put out the bass. I replaced all four factory drivers
in a 2000 Volkswagen Passat (w/ monsoon), leaving the factory tweeters in tact. They are
a great replacement speaker that sound much better than factory. Installation took some
cutting of the metal speaker openings in order for the spring clip to fit. The plastic
mounting ring that comes with the kit for this car doesn't work that well. I hope nothing
loosens up and starts to rattle. The Polk adaptor ring saved the day. Lastly, I am very
disappointed with the size of the speaker itself. The actual speaker is closer to 5 1/4" than
6.5"...but the sound is very good and still worth it.

Installed two pair in my 2005 Prius wow what a difference! They get better with use, a little break in period helps one appreciate the full sound that these rascals will produce. These db651's have exceptional depth for such a small speaker offering great clarity and have a smooth not brittle high end. This is sound you can live with for a long time. Installation was moderately easy once I figured out to mount the Polk speakers on top of the existing factory speaker. I just cut out the factory woofer cone, clipped the voice coil wires and the six plastic speaker supports and pulled out the speaker. The Polks then fit perfectly on top of the existing speaker frame. Wiring was a breeze with the Toyota wiring harness. The Crutchfield advisor guide does not recommend this speaker for my model car. It should start as I am truly pleased with my new addition and you will be too!

After a couple of years of use I added a JBL MA6004 Marine Amp (60 w x 4) to the JBL MR17 receiver and what a difference. Chose this amp as it matched the receiver and it was the 60 w rating of the speakers. Volume is the same now at setting 9 as it was at 30 with no distortion and better bass. Very pleased and would highly recommend adding an amp. Running them in a boat BTW. Upgraded rating to a five based on the improved sound with the amp. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for my Toyota Solara convertible which had the factory stereo with the JBLs. The front doors have JBL 6.75"speakers and a 1" tweeters, and the rear side panels have a JBL 3.5" speaker (midrange). I planned on replacing them all with these Polk db651 speakers. After taking out the little rear speakers and installing the Polks, I thought there was a huge improvement over the 3.5" speakers, but there was not much bass even when turning up the bass and volume. The front JBL speakers had an incredible amount of bass when compared to the Polks. Since the JBLs are only 6.75", which are not much bigger than the Polks, there must be some reason why the Polks don't produce much bass. I thought it was because the actual cone size of the Polks is closer to 5" from edge to edge. I decided not to replace the front JBLs but to leave them in since they sounded so much better bass-wise than the Polks. The Polks do have a better midrange than the JBLs, and do seem to need more power to get them to produce the same level of sound than the front JBLs.

They don't produce much bass at all, and not because of the Solara body enclosure It is probably because of the polymer/mylar type material that does not resonate bass frequencies as good as paper does. JBL uses paper. I have some old JBL L36s and they have 10" paper cone woofers and they sound incredible! In the case of speakers and paper vs. plastic, paper wins!

These are some of the best speakers I have ever heard, period.

A couple reviews say these speakers aren't better than stock and have no bass.
I have to question what they've done with their install because there is nothing
further from the truth.

I ran these solely off of my Alpine CDA-105 head unit for several days just to
see how they sounded and they were terrific. Today I installed the Alpine Power
Pack "mini" amp and they sound incredible. Every bit as warm and full as the
stock speakers, but with amazing clarity and great bass response. In fact these
things can thump pretty good.

I've been a Crutchfield customer for 17 years and never once have I not been

BIG shout out to Marie here! She listened intently to my questions and treated

Bought 2 pairs of these speakers after reading tons of reviews about them...95% seemed positive and for a good reason. then crutchfield put them on sale...decision made...these speakers sound great for the price i paid.

i will have to agree with some previous posts...the bass is not as deep as i expected, the factory speakers in my '02 CRV were a little deeper than these, but the Polks sound much, much better. i didnt expect thunderous bass from some 2-way 6.5s, but maybe they'll get a little deeper when they break in. but then again, this result may differ depending on the vehicle application.

on my JVC receiver the factory speakers would distort at about 20 on the volume knob, the polks have gone past 30 without any distortion/loss of sound quality...that was as loud as i wanted to go before they break in fully. the highs are perfect, the mids are great and the lows are ample. the overall sound quality is amazing.

overall, i am extremely glad i made the choice. you wont be disappointed with the shallow mounts if you application requires them, like mine did. these things are loud and i fully intend on hooking my Rockford amp up to them to give them the power that they want...crutchfields customer service is the best, i ran into a few snags while installing these and called customer service. the tech support guy, shawn (sean?), knew exactly how to get me back on track. thanks crutchfield.

I recently purchased these to upgrade my Chevy Colorado's terrible stock system. My plan
was to pair these (rear) and a pair of db 6501 components (front) with a Kenwood Excelon
KDC-X794. My plan was to use deck power only and eventually add a sub. Well let me tell
you, these things paired with the 6501s are so awesome I am no longer in such a rush to
add the sub. No kidding, and remember I'm only using deck power. What I first noticed
upon installing these speakers was incredibly smooth sound. Very silky highs, great
definition and superb balance up and down the spectrum. Flat eq was tremendous, but
when I engaged the bass boost in the Kenwood I heard more low end than I ever expected
out of any 6.5" speaker driven with such relatively little power. I run the db crossovers at
neutral tweeter level, added just a little high end in the head unit and bingo: sonic nirvana.I
will still move forward with my sub plans, but fear not: these speakers, with a good head
unit, are just fantasitc and at a price that cannot be beat. They are the perfect and a very
affordable complement to components up front. I found myself driving around today just so I
could enjoy the sound quality.

The only thing I noticed that I didn't like was the soldering job on the speaker connections. Weak and flimsy but I would reccomend these to anyone.

I installed 2 sets of these in a Ridgeline running off of the factory HU. I liked them enough to install 2 sets in my Civic. They are powered by an amp in the Civic and WOW does that wake these things up. These are very clean and clear and would reccomend them to anyone whether they were going to put them on an amp or just run them with a HU. Needless to say the Ridgeline is now getting an amp.

I'll start by saying that the source (car stereo) really does matter. If you don't have a good deck, you will be missing out on the potential of these speakers. Prior to a cd deck upgrade, I was unimpressed with the polks. With an entry level clarion, the polks sounded veiled with no midbass. They were high passed at about 100 hz, but nothing suggests that bass was a strong point. That's not to say that they weren't better than the stock bose speakers, because they were. But that was largely because the bose sounded pretty bad. Enter a mid-upper eclipse deck and the difference is night and day. The change in the deck has made these polks come alive. The polks no longer have that veiled sound and the highs, which were already decent with the clarion, sound even better. The midbass has improved somewhat, but is definitely not as powerful as my prior set of components (a very underrated set btw). I was looking to change the polks when I changed the deck, but decided not to. All I can say is that I am glad I did not because they are impressive with a good deck and power. Prior to the deck upgrade, I would have rated these 2-3 stars. Yes, they do have some shortcomings, but for the price, they are a great value. The only reason why they are 4 stars is because I have heard better, albeit at a slighty higher price point. If you do pick these up, do yourself a favor and make sure you pair it up with a good source and decent power.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i had 4 garbage 6.5 inch speakers in a 22ft pontoon boat, that i replaced last year with some cheap pioneers.= waste of time
i was happy for about 5 minutes. they only handled 20w rms....so this year i bit the bullet and ordered 4 of these db651 polk's. upon hooking the first pair they completely blew the pioneers out of the water!!! couldnt even hear the other speakers.
the highs are a 8/10
the mids are a 10/10
and the bass....10/10
i couldnt believe the bass out of these little suckers!!
even off the sony deck they were impressive!
i then added a 4 channel amp with 60w rms per channel and wow!! these are awesome!!
current setup has ...
4 db651 6.5
4 db691 6x9
2 12" polk subs in the polk sub box
2 amps
3 batteries and a
battery isoliation switch
the pontoon has now become the party barge of choice by all of our friends, thank you crutchfield for all the great support, and the great products!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed them in a 2006 Silverado. I was stunned when they sounded like a set of headphones. There is no! I REPEAT NO ! Bass to a song. It sounds way worse then the stock speakers. The stock speakers look like garbage but sound way better then the Polk replacements. Now I have to go through all the trouble to put the stock speakers back in. I'm not at all happy with them. I'm not the type of person to return products, but I guess in this case I have too.

2005 Pontiac Grand Am
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered these speakers for my 2005 pontiac grand am as some replacements just to have a better system. HOLY COW!! These speakers are by a mile the best speakers i have ever owned. The music is so clear and the tweeters allow for crystal clear voices even when the music is turned all the way up. When i cranked my music i was blown away by the sound. They sound like my dad's klipsch home theater system that we have in our home. People have said that these speakers dont handle base well?? Well idk what speakers they were listening to but these speakers sound so perfect. The speaker size is 6.5" for the polks and 6-9" for my grand am stocks but the adapter provided made it easy to drill holes in the back and make them fit to perfection. Dont try to cram those 6-9" speakers into ur rear deck. Take the time to modify these and u will not be disappointed i promise.

Sounds great but didn't last long

Written by: ServinMN from St. Paul, MN on October 23, 2009

I purchased these speakers along with the matching 6x9's deck and jl audio amp for 6x9's. Installed all these in my boat last summer. Both pairs sounded excellent until this fall. One of the 6.5's started crackling and froze up. It is out of warranty. And I'm out of $100 bucks. Next time I will have to buy something without a voice coil that isn't exposed to the elements. I'm sure all the moisture corroded the coil on the woofer, tweeter still works fine. I did enjoy the speakers but they barley lasted over one year.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. It comes with a factory sub-woofer. I added Polk db521's in the dash with the necessary adaptor plate. They sound surprisingly great with the factory head unit by the way. I then bought a Kenwood KDC-X493 head unit. Major improvement over the stock head unit and at a great price. At this point I still had the original speakers in the sound bar. This combination is actually amazingly impressive.

Now to get to the Polk db651 speakers. I bought these instead of the shallow (db651s) mount because of the adjustable tweeters and the fact that they are half the cost. They mounted very nicely in the factory sound-bar. You do not need the shallow mounts these have plenty of room. All I had to do was drill four new holes in the sound-bar plastic. They fit perfectly flush on the outside and it really couldn't be any easier. Make sure you call in your order if you want the free wiring adaptor as the internet will tell you these will not fit the sound-bar.

The sound is amazing for the size. Way better than the stock speakers that were in there. I do mean way better. I am hearing sounds that did not exist before. I'm not really sure how much bass they provide on their own as I have the factory sub. They do have significantly more bass than stock though. Much cleaner highs and noticeable improvements in mids. These can take far more volume than my stock speakers that were in there. I highly recommend these for anyone considering the upgrade.

Nice upgrade from stock speakers for the money

2006 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these to upgrade my stock speakers in an '06 Nissan Frontier. Nice upgrade to muddy stock speakers. You can actually hear some clarity to the music. I have these connected to a 50W head unit and they are PLENTY loud - you can't turn the volume up all the way. Base is a little lacking, but that may improve as the speakers "break in" I think those who give these bad ratings are expecting some miracles from speakers that cost under $100 / pr. You are not going to get concert hall sound from a 6.5 inch speaker out of the door of your vehicle. If you want amazing sound pay the big bucks for an amp and high end speakers. But for the average Joe, these are a nice upgrade. Installation was a bit of a hassle - the mounting bracket holes didn't match up so had to be drilled out to fit. Also the instructions are very vague in some parts. Gives good info on getting the door apart, but then just gives you an "install the speakers" no info on wire colors for +/-, but a quick phone call to Crutchfield and they had the answers for me. One more thing - for those who said they can install these in an hour must be living in a time warp. I am a fairly handly person and it took me a good afternoon to get 4 speakers installed.
