Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.
Polk's db651 speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction, enveloping you in bright musical detail. And you can even pivot the tweeters, aiming them at your ears for improved stereo imaging. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio.
These speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware and muscular ABS grilles that will add a stylish touch to your car's interior. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.
The supplied adapter rings enable the db651 speakers to fit into both 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings, ensuring an easy fit into VWs, Audis, BMWs, and other European imports.

Excellent sounding speakers for the price.

Excellent sounding speakers for the price.
Huge improvement over the old wore out stock speakers. I have them paired with a kenwood adv65bt head unit in my 2005 chevy 2500hd and they sound great! Very happy with my purchase
Pros: Very clean sound with nice midrange and highs
Cons: Nothing to complain about
I read all the tips, all the reviews, and decided to go with 4 DB651's and an MTX Thunder75.4 amp to push them. I installed a 4 channel line level converter behind my factory radio, put the amp under the rear seat, and rewired all the speakers. This project took me a long time but it was well worth it. According to videos I found here, my stock wiring wouldn't be big enough to handle all the power that I'm sending to the new Polk's, because they are 60w RMS, so I ran all new 16ga wire from the amp to the speakers. After dialing in the gain on the converter and amp, and tuning the factory head unit, these speakers are crystal clear and LOUD!!! Listen to the people that work at Crutchfield, size your amp based on what speakers you plan to run, run the right sized wires for everything, and adjust it all properly. You won't regret taking the advice, I would have screwed it all up if I hadn't I'm sure.
Pros: Great sound Even at high volume they stay clear Bass is not overpowering, because they are 6.5" speakers, not subwoofers. Bass is great for size of speakers.
Cons: I didn't do this the day after I bought my truck, which I should have.
Awesome speakers but the speaker brackets and speakers didn't have the correct screws for install. Used my own machine screws and double nut to brackets. Way better than factory. Thanx Crutchfield:)
Pros: Awesome sound, plug in go speaker wires
Cons: wrong screws no biggie
After weeks of research on the web and several calls to Online Stores it looked obvious that Polk Audio was "the" choice. I paired up the db 6501 (Front) with the db651 (Soundbar). After install I tested the speakers without the LOC , Amp, and Sub-woofer already sounded fantastic! But I did add LOC + Amp and eventually a Sub-woofer. I listen to Classical Music and powerful Progressive Rock both most demanding benchmark for speakers and I could not be happier. Sound is powerful, Highs are very clear and the sound is warm and natural and the fact they are Marine Grade makes them the absolute best choice for a soft top Jeep.
Pros: Powerful, very clear highs, warm and natural + Marine Grade!!!
Cons: Small plastic modifications that I will love to avoid next time...
These speakers have much cleaner highs than the OEMs that came with my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. The free Metra wires made it plug and play. I'm 71 and don't care much for bass. I set my equalizer to -3 at 63 Htz. The bass is cleaner and tighter than the OEMs. I set the Equalizer to +4 at 6.3K Htz. I don't hear above 10K Htz anymore.
Pros: Improved sound at a good price.
Paired with the DB6501's in the front these speakers are a big upgrade from the stock. Currently powered off Kenwood receiver, but looking forward to testing their full potential with addition of an amp.
Pros: price, brand, adjustable tweeter direction
package arrived quickly, install instructions spot on. Speakers have good mids and highs, didn't expect boom box lows, but the OEM speakers I replaced (the ones that weren't buzzing) had better base than these, which was a little disappointing.
Pros: crisp mids and highs
Cons: base lacking
Speakers sound decent, but was hoping for a little more with the alpine power pack
Pros: Sound clear
Cons: Was hoping for a little more bass with an amp.
Great sounding speakers. The included mountng plate was not useful for installing in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. I ended up prying the old speakers out of the original adapters and using them with the new speakers. Several mods had to be done to make it fit. Only after installing did I realize there was a METRA adapter listed on the website to make installation easier. I wish Crutchfield would have pointed it out instead of having to dig for it. My install would have been much easier.
Pros: Great speaker quality, great sound.
Cons: None if proper speaker adapter is used.
These speakers were an absolute bargain! Polk has always made great speakers and these are no different. I'm currently running them straight off of a Pioneer headunit and they sound great! I can crank the volume and the sound stays clean. Of course, the fact that they come with Crutchfield's amazing support makes them an even better bargain.
Pros: Great sound. Outstanding value.
Cons: A little bright sounding, but that's easily fixed if your headunit has even a basic EQ.
Speakers sound great! The Customer Service representative told me to buy the DB651 speakers over the kickers. I installed them in the rear so driving I notice a little difference. Also got rid of the blown factory speaker. That's a big plus. When you sit in the rear seats, wow, what a difference! They sound great. I love these speakers because of the swivel tweeter. I still have to position the tweeters. Only thing different from what is mentioned by crutchfield is that the rear doors in a 2006 GMC Canyon Crew Cab there has to be removal of metal. I just used tin snips since that's what I had available. It was a little road block but it was all well worth it. It's worth the $20 to go with these instead of the kickers just for the swivel tweeter!!! First time buyer from Crutchfield. So far so good. Next will be the DB651 component set for the front speakers.
Pros: Sound Great Great Highs and Mids, better bass over stock speakers All around great built speaker Swivel tweeter! Adapters are included! Everything was plug and play Crutchfield knows their stuff
Cons: Had to cut metal with tin snips, I tryed a dry fit into the door without bracket or foam ring. Hole was too small. Then tryed with bracket and foam ring, still too small. Drilled holes, screwed adapter bracket into place, then cut the metal away. Then it was all easy.
I could feel out about these speakers, but it would be great thingsthings already said by other happy customers. If you want solid, durable, great sounding speakers, buy these. You will not be disappointed.
Pros: Clear sound. Marine grade. Perfect for work vehicles. Large range of sizes.
Cons: I don't have anything else to put them in.
Nice, heavy duty speakers to replace some cheap, lightweight factory ones in the doors. Fit perfectly with the mounting bracket. Only thing missing were the blade connectors to attach to the speakers. I was hoping Crutchfield would include these.
Pros: Good fit, nice sound from factory radio. Big improvement from what was there.
Cons: Blade connectors should be included
These Polk speakers are quite beautiful sounding.
Pros: Excellent coaxial speakers.
Cons: Nothing wrong with these speakers.
Replaced the factory speakers with these. Had to drill new mounting holes, but nothing major. Didn't have to use the supplied mounting bracket. They fit great, look great and sound even better. Getting some pretty good bump from these 6.5" round drivers. I have used Polk Audio speakers before and have always been happy with my purchase.
Pros: Great sound at a nice price! What else are you looking for?
This unit replaced Clarion speakers. These speakers are so much better than what I replaced, I was surprised. The sound is much more clear and very pleasant.
Pros: Easy installation, great sound and came with all needed installation hardware.
Cons: No cons
2007 GMC Sierra, sounds a lot better than factory speakers, and not too bad to install.
Pros: Sound good with factory radio
Cons: Had to do minor alteration on metal speed its with tinsnips
Great sounding speakers to replace my dying factory driver door speakers in my 2006 Subaru Forester. I have the subwoofer and sail panel tweeters installed so the Polks are probably not as dramatic improvement as without but now the mids and lows are tighter for better sound balance. No install issues and no clearance issues with the window using the Polk supplied spacer/mounting ring. It is a close fit so I needed to make sure the wiring did not interfere with the window and I needed to use an existing hole in the door panel to bring the wiring from the rear of the speaker to the factory connector location at the front of the speaker.
Pros: Great sound Simple install Good price
I've been into audio for a very long time and Polk audio makes great products. The db651 are great sounding speakers. I installed 4 of these in an Chevy Silverado 2500 that I use for work. They are powered with an Alpine head unit only. At first I was kind of skeptic on the sound but but realized with experience that their is a break in period. After a few days the sound is fantastic. I had to also adjust the parametric eq in the head unit because of the trucks acoustics. These have great bass and highs. Thumbs up Polk audio!
Pros: Great for the budget in mind
I have installed polk speakers in all my vehicles these speakers are great. Highs and mids are excellent, lows are the best I've heard from a non amplified 6 1/2. Another thing I love is they are marine certified! Which some people may not understand that the inside of your door gets wet but fyi it does. I have even seen them fill with water like 1/4 of the door, but polk speakers are ok to get a wee bit wet! Thank you Polk engineers!
Pros: Marine certified, great range, lovely crisp sound
Cons: I have had one speaker fail before but it was 4 years old and in my drivers door which gets slammed often.
There is a clear sound quality improvement from my factory 6.5s in my subaru imprezza. Highs are.much higer and mids and lows much improved. Pushed by an alpine power pack, they are giving their all. Theyre priced nice yet i beleieve there are comparable if.not.slightly better options especially on sale. Dont get.me wrong, theyre solid performers and worth the money.
Pros: Big improvement over factory Hits the whole freq.range very well Do extremely well amplified to rms
Cons: Not much. Some better comparable options at a better price out there.
Replaced my stock 6.5" speakers in my 2009 Silverado with these, and left the head unit in to test, and it was a HUGE change in quality just from the simple speaker swap. Easy to install, fit was correct, sound is way better than stock. Later added in an 8100NEX head unit and that upped the sound quality yet again. No amp, subs, tweeters, nothing else added, and the sound is good enough for me. No more muffled sounds and no distortion when turned up.
Pros: Good all around speaker, good price, easy install.
Very affordable great sounding speaker even with a stock head unit and no amp, , came with everything necessary for installation and was very easy, will be purchasing 2 more for the front doors. Great advice from Crutchfield customer service
Pros: Great bass for a small speaker
I was looking for a suitable replacement front speaker for my 07 GMC Sierra crew cab p/u that had given up . I was not necessarily looking for an inexpensive speaker but didn't want to pay hundreds a dollars either. These speakers seem to fit my primary requirements and the reviews encouraged me to purchase these speakers. After installing the speakers I am delighted that with the sound quality and range more than meets my expectations. Powered by aftermarket DVD tuner is a perfect combination.
Pros: Great sound quality and range. Good fit in original factory position
Cons: now I need to buy another pair for the rear doors
These speakers are a huge step up from my factory with a surprising amount of bass for speakers! It's not the same as putting subs in your car but for 4 door speaks I can not complain! From my podcasts, to Tech N9ne, to Jason Aldean these speakers do not disappoint! Only slight modification needed to put into my 06 GMC Canyon, and by modification, I had to drill new holes. quick and easy!
Great speakers with nice bass
Excellent sound quality! Well built and easy to install..
Pros: Poly cone, well built & great sound..
Cons: Only comes in 4 ohms impedance!!
Literally put these speakers in as soon as they came in the mail, bought them to replace junk factory speakers in front doors, even with stock head unit listening to music in my truck is finally enjoyable
Pros: No distortion when the radio is turned way up, even with stock head unit bass response over stock speakers is noticeable
Wow what a great speaker at such a bargain. it would be a good buy at twice the price. I put these in the the front and the db651s in the rear of my 05 chevy 1500 crew cab, and was blown away. Very rich tone, silky smooth across the board, and much better bass the stock chevy bose speakers. Great for all types of music, and they are marine grade. Be sure and get the baffles, they add a lot.
Pros: Price, Sound, Quality,
Cons: are you kidding? they are A#1
If I am comparing these to my stock speakers then they are a good speaker. The polk is a lot more clear and doesn't rattle with bass. I installed these in the front on a Nissan Frontier 2004 truck and the install was not super easy if you don't have experience. Nissan doesn't carry harness extension on the front speaker so you have to splice and use female terminal adapters. You have to use included bracket to screw speaker to car door. It's hard to give these speakers a fair review because I still have the stock radio which doesn't give it enough power, also I haven't compared them to other aftermarket speakers.
Pros: Upgrade over stock speakers
Cons: not an easy install and all parts needed for install not included (nissan frontier 2004)
I have had these speaker in my Saturn Outlook for a couple of years, and I have finally gotten around to tearing them out. Possibly these speakers are a good value for the price paid, but they really aren't wonderful. I was told by Crutchfield that they were recommended because they reproduced better details in the music than other comparable speakers. Unfortunately, they have other major weaknesses such as harsh sound, raspy voices, 'static' like noise from the tweeters, and lack of smoothness. I am running these speakers on a Kenwood dnx890hd head unit and a Clarion XC1410 amp (4x50w). Power is not the problem. I think that these speakers were my first recommendation from Crutchfield that was bad. Interestingly, I have called back several times for tips on how to make the sound quality better. Each time Crutchfield has insisted that my problem was not the speakers. Though most of the changes Crutchfield recommended has improved the sound, none of them have made the speakers sound good. (I have even resorted to rewiring the speaker from the Amp and that didn't really help). Honestly, I am suspicious as to why so many of the Crutchfield employees are recommending these speakers so much. I have used Crutchfield on and off for over 20 years. This is the first time I have received truly bad advice.
Pros: Good at reproducing instrumentals in the mid range Provides a full sound when given enough power (Aftermarket head unit alone will not be sufficient though) Saturn Outlook is a huge SUV. These speakers are plenty loud. Bass is adequate. These speakers are definitely far better than the stock speakers.
Cons: Womens voices are especially raspy. None of the voice reproduction is clean - male or female. None of the sounds (voice or instrumental) are very smooth My ears fatigue quite quickly and need to turn them off after a while. There is a lot of harshness to the sound quality of these speakers
Disappointed. The factory AC Delco speakers sounded better than these.
Pros: Fit well, easy to install.
Cons: Does not improve sound quality.Crutchfield response on January 14, 2015 That's a common reaction when replacing car speakers. What you can expect to hear from a new speaker is better clarity and definition in the mids and highs. So your music will sound better and more lifelike, but you might not hear more bass. The only way to get more bass is to add more power, and if you want to keep the factory radio, that means adding an amplifier. A small (40-50 watts), 4-channel amp can supply twice the power of an aftermarket stereo and three or four times the power of the typical factory radio. That'll improve all the sound, but you'll especially hear it in the fullness of the bass.
Speakers sound great! Huge upgrade over the stockers in my Silverado. Good bass response and nice clear and crisp high. Should have bought two sets when they were on sale instead of just one:(
Pros: Easy install, well built, sound great!
Cons: None yet
Great Speakers! Good sound in a small truck.
Pros: Easy to install.
These speakers are just plain awesome! Some people spoke of poor bass response. I am getting great sound from mine. Not subwoofer bass, but full range sound. They also have crisp-sounding tweeters. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.
Pros: Great full-range sound. Great fit.
Didnt fit in any brackets, but i was able to make it work. They sound great! So much more clear then the bose i took out. The highs are great, cant tell with the bass as the bose amp sucks! Id buy them again!
Cons: Didnt come with connectors to speakers.... Seems dumb not to include those...
Great sound! Installed in 2012 Honda Civic sedan with Kenwood dnx691hd driving. Plays loud and clear with nice bass.
Pros: Clear highs, mids, and nice bass.
Installed in 2 pairs in a new car with stock HU so they are limited by a lack of power. They are still a noticeable improvement over the stock speakers. The construction quality seems excellent. My first purchase from Crutchfield and I am very happy. The included install instructions and the wire bracket to attach to the stock wiring was nice to have as I installed these in a leased car.
Pros: Good clarity and range. Great price
Cons: A little too bright for my taste - I feel the same way about Infinity speakers that I have heard - but with an amp and a sub and more eq control I'm sure I would be very happy with the sound.
This speaker cannot be beat!! Excellent efficiency with internal crossover. Sounds great without amplification!
Pros: Efficiency with internal crossover.
I upgraded the factory Bose speakers in the front doors of my 2011 Tahoe. I think one of the factory speakers was blown, and they easily distorted at higher volume. The Polk's were definitely an improvement, although not as major as I had expected. Good highs/mids, not a ton of bass (which I didn't expect from a speaker in this price range). Fast shipping from Crutchfield. Included instructions weren't bad, but I'd recommend doing some Internet research on pulling your door panels if you're not familiar with doing it.
Very satisfied it was a easy installation
Pros: Great sound and a direct fit
nice crisp sound
Pros: like the mid range and clearity of the speaker
Speakers sound great!
Pros: Easy installation, great sound and price
Cons: none yet
Very easy to install. Installed in my Mastercraft ski boat and sound awesome. Of course nothing but the best customer service from Crutchfield. Great price, fast free shipping.
Pros: Again, very easy to install and sound great.
Great speakers. I bought a set for my car and was so satisfied with the sound I bought a set for my truck. Awesome sound.
Pros: The installation instructions made it easy. I have bad hearing. as it is, but these bad boys allow me to hear and enjoy the sounds I've been missing.
I bought these for the rear of my 2007 NBS Silverado Ext Cab. Little tweaking with the bracket and install was complete. Sound is fantastic. Much better than stock. The clarity and detail is great. Makes you go through your music selection again to hear the new details. I put the DB6501 up front and these in the back. I listen to mostly metal, hard rock, and blues and these handle it all with ease. No shrill, no loss of mid, just a great all around speaker. If you are on the fence, just buy these.
Bought another set of these for the rear after hearing how great the fronts were. Probably could have lived with the fronts alone, but thought a matched set was prudent.
Pros: Great sound, very powerful.
Installed these in the rear doors of my '09 Subaru Forester (paired with DB651S in the front and powered by 22 watt JVC head unit) and they sound so much better than the stock factory speakers. I put them through their paces with a variety of music from driving drums and bass to intricate instrumentals to subtle vocals. Everything sounded tremendous, although I did detect some buzziness when I boosted the bass level on the EQ. However, this may be a result of my installation - I'll check it in the coming days - as I installed the rear doors first before I was completely confident of what I was doing.
Pros: Great sound reproduction. Well made. Fit vehicle well. Efficient (produce much more sound than factory speakers at the same volume level).
Cons: Nothing yet.
EASY TO INSTALL AND SOUNDS GREAT; REPLACED ALL FOUR IN THE 05 TAHOE
Cons: KINDA "BOOMY" AT TIMES
The Polk speakers recommended by the experts at Crutchfield did a great job assisting me with the upgrade. I used the Polk speakers as an upgrade from the factory Bose speakers and I couldn't be more pleased. These speakers were a definite upgrade from what I had previously in my Tahoe. The sound is much more complete and the fit was good as well. Great speakers !
Pros: Great fit with minimal work during the install. Very full sound across all frequencies. Well built speakers that should last a long time.
Cons: Some reworking had to be done to fit these into my rear door cutouts. Small plastic tabs on the door had to be ground off with a Dremel tool. This only took a few minutes to correctly place the speakers into the rear doors.
Sounds great, good clear sound. Definitely a quality speaker especially at the price range they are at.
Pros: Price, Clarity, Construction
Cons: Not as much bass as I would like
Very detailed speakers, not a lot of bass but very clean and amazing highs.
Pros: Sound and price.
Cons: Nothing yet
I installed these speakers in the front doors of my 2010 chevy silverado extended cab and they were perfect. They are super loud and very clean and crisp sounding. You can hear clearly from about 10 feet outside of the truck when my stock radio is turned up all the way. They don't have great bass, but it certainly isn't bad.
Pros: loud, clean
Cons: distort at high bass
They sound great. Was everything I was hoping for with a factory radio.
Pros: A huge upgrade from the factory speakers
Great speakers. Vocals are particularly clear.
Pros: Awesome sound
Cons: a little pricey, but I think they're worth it.
These speakers sound great great highs, mids, lows
Pros: Sound great in my front door speakers
Cons: Wont fit in the rear deck of my car unless i get the slim db6501s but i knew that before purchase
2nd time I have bought from Crutchfield. Installed in rear door of 2005 Nissan Frontier. Pretty straight forward, did have to drill out the mounting plate holes as they were way to small to get the speaker screws started straight. Also had to extend the bottom mounting whole a quarter of inch to match factory door mount. Any way speakers sound great! Bass for classic rock hits pretty hard. Powered by a 25watt JVC head unit I bought last year. Was going to get amp and sub next year but might not have too. Can hardly wait to hear speakers once they are broken in, since I have heard they sound better after a several hour breakin.
Pros: Sound is great for classic rock. Bass was much better them expected when I listened to Boston's More Than A Feeling. Also sounds great when playing the 1812 Overture.
Cons: Mounting bracket had to be drilled, speed clips provided by Polk had to be removed in order to fit in factory mount.
Great sounding speakers for the money. I put 6 of them on our houseboat with two JBL marine amps. Plenty loud enough.
Pros: Price, sound good and well built.
My 2011 Silverado 2500HD came with a Bose Audio System. You would think that if Bose was going to put their name on something and maybe introduce someone that has never heard any of their product before, they would want to do a lot better than this. After upgrading the front speakers to the Polks there was definitely an improvement. Brighter and smoother top end and a little less distortion at louder levels. But not a significant change.
Pros: Better high frequency response than the factory speaker. Less distortion.
Cons: Not worth the cost and labor. Looks like to get the improvement I expected I'll have to revamp the whole system.
Both the Polk Audio db651 & db651s sound great with my stock 2006 GMC Sierra Crew Cab truck radio. As expected the radio volume is turned up just a bit as the speakers use more amps. My design criteria was to replace speakers and have a clearer sound. The base is adequate for my ears that are north of age 50. Now I'm back to cleaning & detailing the truck.
Pros: The speakers preform and sound better than the factory speakers.
Decent amount of brightness but not much else
Cons: No bass at all
These sound okay but could be better. Maybe because it's only 6.5"? I got these to replace my 6x9's because the tech guys at Crutchfield told me that aftermarket 6x9's will not fit. I would have to get 6.5" with adapter plate. Well, I tried that and they fit but the sound size is very small compared to my stock 6x9's, so I returned these speakers back to Crutchfield. I did some sizing up and had bought some Polk 6x9 speakers. The tech was right that they didn't fit but, all I needed is an adapter ring for the 6x9. And guess where I found one? I used my stock Toyota 6x9 speakers and removed the cone and installed the new aftermarket 6x9 into the Toyota adapter. WaLa! It fit perfectly! And it sounds great too! I don't know why I haven't seen any tech forums suggesting this. It was so easy! Plus, I didn't need a wiring harness; I just soldered some new speaker wires onto the existing Toyota connector. Can you say plug and play?
Pros: If you have a Toyota Tacoma you can use an aftermarket 6x9's as long as you reuse the Toyota adapter.
Cons: Too small of sound!
Excellence these are installed where they said it couldn't be done!
Pros: Waterproof Legendary Polk Sound on a Harley
The db651 is a nice speaker. Very smooth highs with no harshness and ample bass--it really moves some air. Sound MUCH better than VW Jetta MKVI factory speakers. I had the Polk DXi series installed in a different car with a different head unit. They were nice too, but I like the db series better. The DXi series seemed too sharp on the high end. Not the case with these.
Pros: Smooth highs. You can adjust the tweeter.
Cons: None with the speakers themselves. If you are installing in a VW Jetta Mk VI, the speakers will be a good 1.5" away from the door panel--Crutchfield doesn't supply a spacer like the factory speakers have, so some of your sound will get lost behind the door panel. Crutchfield has no installation instructions for the Jetta MKVI either. Really? The top selling VW car? Come on, Crutchfield.
Great Sound, Great Value Easy Installation!
Pros: Great Sound, Great Value Easy Installation!!!
On Crutchfield, 2012 Jeep JKU says db651s fits sound bar and 651 does not. This is incorrect. The DB651 does indeed fit, but you have get rid of the stock grill cover and use the polk ones. I did this, and painted it matte black, and it looked stock
Great Product At A Great Price. Don't Hesitate With Purchasing These Excellent Speakers For A More Than Standard Upgrade To Your Existing Factory System
Pros: Even Install, Great Balance From Lows To Highs.
Finished installing these earlier today, and I already love them! They replaced an older set of Polk's that had been driven hard for eight years and finally wore out, (model db650, bought here from Crutchfield back in 2005). These newer db651's are everything I hoped they would be. I have a 12-inch subwoofer, so I was unconcerned from the start about whether these Polks had good bass or not. Using the head unit's high-pass filter, I cut off frequencies below 80Hz to these Polks. Just love the warm tweeters! Marvelous! I absolutely love these Polks! The warmth of the tweeters is the very reason I bought db's a second time.
Pros: Clear and warm sound quality. Absolutely delightful!
Cons: Crutchfield's fit guide does not appear to be entirely accurate for my vehicle. I installed these in a 2003 Dodge Dakota club-cab. Fit-guide says these don't fit in the front door location. I think this might be true if attempting to re-use the Dodge factory bracket, which make the speakers protrude out approx. ¾-inch from the door's sheet metal, but it is not necessary to use the Dodge bracket. You can use the included Polk bracket or the Crutchfield supplied Scoche bracket and mount direct
These replaced front door speakers in 08 Tundra double cab. Hooked up to stock head unit. Much better, clearer sound. Now for the rear speakers......
Pros: Painless install, fit perfect, no surprises.
I replaced the last two of the rear stock speakers with these and the sound stage definitely sounded so much more improved. Vocal sound really nice and I can hear words I had never heard with the stock. String instruments definitely sound much better. Bass is not the best, but I do not expect much since I need to add a subwoofer for that.
Pros: Better vocals, string instruments; great price and look very sturdy and well made.
Cons: Not the best bass,
Easy to install and sound great!! Highly recommend installing an amp. I used the Alpine MRP-F300 and made my deck sound awesome! Highly recommend installing a sub if you don't have one already!
Pros: Easy install with the included parts and hardware.
Cons: None yet!!
I was a little hesitant on buying these as I figured crutchfield was just trying to sell polk and I was looking at another name brand but went ahead and ordered these. They came several days later and I installed them in my denali which was super easy. The music that came out was nice, crisp and clear so I am happy to have them. I have a factory amp and these speakers come alive. As everyone else has said if you want bass then add subs which I did and the polks complement the entire sound system. If you want great highs mixed with mids then buy these polk speakers you cant go wrong.
Pros: price, ease of install, and sound quality.
Recently I purchased a 2011 GMC Sierra truck. Unfortunately the stock speakers were so poor all music was muted and muddy. I knew Crutchfield could solve my problem and did so with the Polk db651 pair of 6 1/2 inch speakers that I installed in both doors. Highs are beautiful, mids are clear so the song words can be understood and the bass is nice and tight.
Pros: Installation instructions and all necessary hardware to install the speakers included. Nothing was left to guess at!
Easy installation and the speakers have a pretty good sound even with the factory radio.
Pros: Good sound and easy to install in our 2006 Silverado.
Cons: None so far.
Great sounding speakers for the money! At first i didnt like the amount of bass that they produced and was a little worried about it. Then roughly 1 month later they completely blow me away!! Alot of people seem to not know about a speakers break in time to really shine you need at least 80 to 100 hours of break in time and within that period do not turn them up past 3/4 of the volume if it is connected to a head unit and 1/2 way if connected to an amplifier. Trust me it is well worth the wait!!!!
Pros: Best 6.5 speakers for the money!!! Deep satisfying bass around 50hz and the mids are clean and highs are on the flat note (unlike infinity) which is the kind of sound i prefer!
Cons: The fact that we have to break the speakers in!!!
Great speaker and a significant upgrade to the sound. Did not fit the door, or the supplied adaptor kit. I would have had to use the speaker adapter to mount it on the separate adapter kit and that would have had to be modified to fit the car door I wound up modifying the original speaker/mount and attaching the speakers directly to that
Pros: Great sound. Decent price
Cons: Did not fit, supplied mount adapters did not fit. Took some energy to adapt original speaker/mount
These speakers sound so much better than the stock VW speakers in my daughter's 2011 Jetta that we may not look to install a subwoofer in the future.
Pros: Reasonable Price Excellent Sound
Cons: No real issues
These sound great! Good bass sound and crisp mids and highs.
Pros: Excellent replacement for my 04 Silverado
I got these along with the shallows. The site said that they would only fit up front. I took a chance and got the shallows for the back doors and was also able to get the adapters and wire kits. Sound is an upgrade. If u want bass get sub to go along. Not bad set of speakers though.
Pros: Clear sound
Cons: Not much bass
Good speakers and good sound in my 1990 Montero. Custom instal in front door.
Pros: Vocal sound good.
Cons: Low bass no good.
I installed these in my 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab. The speaker adapters and speaker wire harness connectors Crutchfield provides makes the job so incredibly easy! The master instruction guide from Crutchfield is awesome. Took me longer to take the door panels off then it did to install the speakers. The difference between stock speakers and these polks cannot even be compared. So much better! Also, I have a Alpine amp pushing these and they can handle every bit of power you feed them.
Pros: Great sound. Great quality Great Mid range
Cons: Wish had a bit more low end
Great sounding speakers
Pros: Fits in vw jetta 6 3/4 holes front and rear with out any spacers just have to drill 4 new holes simple
Great. Even marine grade. they have built in tweeters so if you looking for bass this isn't them. If you want to upgrade to a nice stereo these are great mids and high speakers. They are very loud and crisp.
One of my factory installed speakers died in my almost 9 year old truck. So I had them all replaced & professionally installed with these speakers. They sound great. I am not an audiophile but they sound 100x better than my original truck factory speakers...They fact that they are paired up with my none factory Sony explod head unit makes a huge difference..
Pros: Great sound.
Cons: Too hard to install them yourself
bought these polks to replace the factory speakers in my new kia soul. the difference is night and day, the polks handle everything the factory stereo can dish out. they sound great, good bass response clean highs, nice speakers.
Pros: great sounding speaker. if you can follow instructions and have basic tools its easy.
Cons: rear speaker bracket did'nt work with these speakers, mounting holes exceeded the diameter of the bracket.
I recently purchased a 2005 GMC Serria 1500 Crew Cab and the door speakers were shot. I decided to replace them with the Polk Audio db651 speakers and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The installation was fairly easy and the adaptors included made the speaker wire connections a snap. Just be sure to watch the video on YouTube first to make getting the door panels off eaiser. If you're not handy with a drill and figuring out how to adapt the front speakers to fit, you might want to get a friend to help. The speakers sounded a little flat at first but after a few days they sounded great. Good bass, midrange and treble. If the CD player in my stock radio wasn't broken I wouldn't change it. That will be my next project and I'll probably come back to Crutchfield for that.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: None so far.
For the money, the speakers sound so much better than originals! Crutchfield Team made this installation as simple as it can get! Very happy with the advice received on the whole audio setup!
Pros: Clean sound, all connections worked as advertised
Cons: Directions supplied were mostly helpful except the disconnecting of the door release cable bracket and electronic connectors for door locks and windows.
they work and sound great. it was well worth the money.
Pros: look and sound good.
Cons: none yet
The best Speakers EVERRRR!!!!
Pros: The Best
I got these to go with my JVC head unit in my truck and they sound great. I've had a lot of good experience with Polk DB speakers in the past and these were even better than I thought. I was expecting the bass to be non-existent or very weak, but they are very well rounded and actually thump a little depending on the music. (Your results may vary...it may just be my truck door cavity carries the low notes better than other car doors.) Of course the highs and mids are very good, which is pretty much a given for most Polk speakers and why I chose these in the first place. I bought some pioneer 6.5" speakers for half the price of the Polks to put in the rear just for fill and they sound crappy compared with the Polks. If I had to do it again I would probably get another pair of Polks for the rear, but oh well. That's what you get for trying to save money. Overall they are a great sounding co-axial speaker and worth the price. They are probably about as good as it gets for this configuration unless you step up to component speakerI would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a well performing speaker in this price range.
Pros: Great sound, well rounded, good value for the price
Cons: Don't like the grille cover design, but I didn't need them as they are behind the factory door panel screens anyway
This past weekend I replaced all 4 door speakers in our 2013 Kia Sportage with these units, and the improvement was definitely more than I anticipated. My wife is no audiophile, but she immediately noted the brighter and crisper treble, as well as the tighter, deeper, and more accurate bass response. With the 2013 Sportage, you do NOT have to use the "slim" versions of these speakers, and the factory head unit has more than enough power to drive them.
Pros: Excellent performance for the money
Cons: None whatsoever
Clear precise sound is my opinion of this product. A driver of this size is not capable of delivering a lot of bass, but neither is any other driver of this size. If you want bass you need to buy an apropriate subwoofer. As to the value, I cite the law of diminishing returns. You would have to spend a lot more for an incremental inrease in quality.
Pros: Accurate and a good value
Cons: None at this time.
Installed these in a 2008 GMC Sierra. They play louder with less distortion than stock speakers and the musical details are more pronounced. Cleaner sound with tighter bass response. Not more bass than stock but better bass than stock. Overall I'm pleased with the speakers. This was step one. Next will be the head unit and a JL Audio Stealthbox to complete the audio overhaul.
Pros: Clean, loud with tighter bass
I placed the speakers in my Harley Davidson motorcycle to replace the stock ones, and what a big difference. I thought I would need an amp but I didn't. The factory speakers were the problem, my radio just had to be unleased.
Pros: Love them. Also the tweeters swivel.
Cons: None yet.
Big fan of Polk, been using Polk speakers for years not one complaint. Bought these DB651 s for use in a boat (they are marine certified) and they sound great. I have two pair of these with a 4 channel 400 watt amp and they are great, even good bass for what/where they are
Pros: excellent sound quality-especially for the price plus marine certified
Installed with ease and sounds great paired w/Sony CDX-GT700HD.
Pros: Good Bass for a door mount (front)
Cons: unless you use the provided grills, you have to set the tweeter direction before putting the door panel on.
I can not believe what great sound is comming out of the Polk db651's......
These speaker's rock. Clarity, performance, power handling. We absolutely love them.
These sound really good in my 2000 VW Beetle. Admittedly they are a little weak on bass, but I also installed subs, so I wasn't really looking for much bass.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Weak bass
The product seems good I searched for these using the factory radio as part of my search criteria; the speakers really need more power than the factory radio puts out. I'm not sure if I should return them or buy more watts.
Pros: great brand product looks awesome
Cons: Not really compatible wit the factory radio. Needs a amp.
I replaced my stock speakers in my 2010 GMC Sierra with these POLK's and I am very happy with the purchase. I also bought a pair of the shallow mount for the front. They are exactly what I wanted and I will add a sub later for more bass. I would recommend these to anyone.
Pros: Excellent upgrade from factory and buy one and get the second for half price was good also.
Actually was quite impressed...Bought baffles but didnt realize when ordering that they were are marine speaker so didnt use baffles and was glad since we stuck with factory radio they actually sound pretty good and the baffles would have taken from alot of the sound since it was an OEM radio and not much power output but very please with the bass and it still sits on 0 while treble is about 4 and this is was in a 07 New style Silverado and they dropped right into place
Pros: Sound great even on OEM radio and installed very easy
Was not sure what to buy for my 03 Nissan Frontier. I used the online chat and talked to Jenny. Told her what I wanted, the head unit I was using and the price limit. She was fast about finding what I was looking for. Actually kept the price well under my budget! So thank you! Overall this product is really good for not using an amp. I am happy with my purchase here. These came half off when I purchased the polk audio 5" for my rear doors.
Pros: Good sound and easy installation
I am going to share my experience with these speakers in my Nissan Versa 2010 SL. Like a many of us I had a question: Polk Audio db651or Polk Audio db651S? Ok I got them one of each pair. After 2 month of use them and switch them from front doors to back doors few times I can tell you that. Polk Audio db651 has a little more BASS but less MIDS and HIS and sounds great. I left them in the rear doors. Polk Audio db651S in the front doors has less BASS but excellent MIDS and excellent HIS. And compare sound to you old factory speakers you will start missing worm BASS you have from cheap paper speakers but now you have good clear sound. I call Crutchfield and after good advice I ordered and install small SUB under my seat Sound OrdnanceT B-8PT. It was my best investment for my car audio. Never wanted SUB in my car before, will never drive my cars without it. Very impressed and very happy. Thank you Crutchfield for recommend me that!
I spoke with a Crutchfield adviser and after I told him axactly what I had for a head unit, he reccomended the Polks. I was looking at marine speakers which were more money. Well I got them and installed them right away. Holy cow!!! The sound was great. I didn't even need an amp. This was last year I installed them on my open boat and they still sound great. I hose them down lightly when I wash the boat and it doesn't seem to bother them. Well, This new season I decided to change the head unit and also add a third set of speakers so I ordered the Polks again. I received them a few days ago and can't wait to install them in the boat. The four sound great with the new head unit so I know that adding two more is only going to make it sound even better. I trust Crutchfield with all of my car and marine audio.
Pros: Less expensive then marine speakers, Great sound without the need for an amp.
Cons: I don't have any!
Very happy with the sound quality of these speakers. Not quite as good at the Bose I had in my '03 Chevy Silverado, but pretty close.
I am a cheapskate with an Impreza, and I replaced the stock front speakers Polk mm651's and rear with Infinity 6032cf's. I am still using he stock head unit with no aftermarket amp or a sub. The Infinitys were clear in the high end, but had no bass whatsoever. Replaced them with db651's (I've had polks before in home systems and vehicles) and I couldn't be happier. Very full sound, even at the bottom end. I listen to rock (the who, zeppelin, kyuss, local h, blue oyster cult) and these handle that type of music well. If you're into rap, get a sub and the infinitys would be fine. If you're cheap and still wanna rock, these are great
Pros: good sound through full range
Cons: not quite the mm651's
It didn't have the bass i wanted. The factory speakers seemed to have more bass! Overall I'm a little disappointed that I wasn't "wowed" by the sound after installing.
Pros: Good crisp sound
Put these in my 2003 Maxima and they sound pretty good. The extra brackets Crutchfield sent me weren't even needed with my Maxima. It took me about an hour to finally figure out I don't need them, but after I realized I could use the ones Polk sent it only took about a 25 minutes per door (wire splicing). Would be nice if they could include a wiring harness that would fit the Nissan's, but it wasn't too big of a deal. Overall pretty happy with the quality of sound and all the stuff Cruthfield sent me. Thanks Keith for the advice! Next step is head unit!
Pros: Quality of sound.
Cons: Extra brackets Crutchfield sent weren't needed. Had to splice the wires in order to connect.
These are really sweet speakers. They replaced the stock speakers in my 2003 Maxima. The difference was nothing short of amazing. These speakers sparkle in the high range and have really tight bass. The stereo imaging is killer. They are mounted in the doors on my Maxima and are just awesome in that location. I had a set of three way Kenwoods in my 1998 Maxima. Those were great speakers, but these Polks are way better. No problem with the fit except that the holes in the mounting ring need to be enlarged slightly to match up with the factory holes in the doors. This is in the instructions. I wish that the Crutchfield kit came with a wiring adapter. It takes some time to cut out the factory plug and splice the wires. Make sure that you have some wiring connections or solder if that's your thing.
I matched these with the db651s for the rear doors of my GMC crew cab and I am thrilled to hear all the music. The drive is more enjoyable now that I know my hearing is not failing. Once again great speakers.
Smokin' deal on great speakers. I now own 3 pairs of the db651's. Clear highs, solid lows and awesome presence. Replaced the factory speakers in a 2004 Trailblazer and in a 2000 Maxima. I was blown away both times. Can't go wrong here.
Good clear sound
Great speakers for the price.Had to replace damaged Sony xplodes in my boat. Would buy again, but probably would have considered the low impedance Polk model if I had known about it.
Installed these in my boat. Sound great and have done well with the rain and water
This is the 4th set I purchased and couldn't be happier. I have 2 pair in my Boat and installed 2 sets in my Jeep. I couldn't be happier with them. They sound great on stock power and ridiculous while amped.
replacements for OEM clarion marine speakers on a Malibu Sunsetter boat. marked improvement in sound. very smooth and clean. excellent constrction. mounting rings are a nice touch.
I installed these speakers on my Goldwing 1800 Trike. db501 in the rear are crisp, great clarity, and enormous treble. db651 in the front are not what I had expected. Even with the treble control turned off, they are still extremely tinny. The are unable to handle bass control at any decent level. They distort immediately when any reasonable amount of bass is used. For the price of the db651s, I would expect a better quality speaker.
after installing these in a 2003 four winns, I had pretty low expectations as far as what the stock speakers put out. I finally had a day on the lake and to say I was impressed is an understatement. The speakers added a nice bass punch without thumping like some of the big systems. The speakers installed easily and have delivered everything I had hoped for a marine speaker. I highly recommend for fellow boaters.
Excellent sound for my 2006 Silverado. Got these buy 1 get one 1/2 off. Best deal in town. Easy installation makes it even better. My 16-year old son installedthese for me in about 1/2 hour. Along with my new head unit, almost blows my windows out!
Nice quality and performance for the price point. Along with the promotional discount offer for a second set at half price the total price per speaker came out to about 37$ per speaker. A musical instrument produces a characteristic sound because of the combination of the fundamental and harmonic frequencies. The detail and texture added to the mid and low range after upgrading to Polk DB651 is nothing less than awesome. I can hear every single note as though it were live. My Factory Monsoon sound system always sounded a little "tinny" to me. Now it's richer and the bass kicks every detail. Speaker sensitivity is a measurement of the amount of sound output derived from a speaker with one watt of power input from an amplifier. The DB651 is very efficient at 92db and will maximize the performance of a stock car radio/amplifier. My Jetta Monsoon has gone from "okay" to driving you out of the car at half volume. Awesome result for a simple speaker refresh. Crutchfield Rocks!
I just installed the Polk Audio DB651 speakers in the front and the Polk Audio DB461 speakers in the rear. Wow, what a huge difference over stock. I had the bose speakers, but one went out. I got such a great deal for all 4 speakers through Crutchfield, that i decided to replace them all. I am so glad I did. I have a 2004.5 GMC Duramax in Extended Cab. I have the stock HU. I can't wait to replace that with something better.
These speakers work on the door speaker position as well as the back panel. This is against what crutchfield initially told me. Great mids and highs now aiming for a subwoofer and amp to match. Excellent value for good speakers.
I got these for the front doors in my 2002 Civic sedan (yes, they do fit as long as you get the right adapter ring). I have them hooked up to an Alpine 4-channel amp, so each speaker gets 50 watts RMS. They can really pump out the mid- bass and the mid range is very good--vocals sound very clear and clean. However, I am disappointed with the tweeters, as they are very overpowering, so much that at normal listening levels they were really hurting my ears. I had to use my head unit's equalizer to turn down all frequencies above 5KHz by about 3dB. However, after this tweak, the tweeters do sound good and provide excellent detail to the music. Just be warned that if you do not have a way of turning down treble frequencies on your source unit, you may find these speakers way too "bright."
After intense browsing for weeks and weeks I decided to go with the polk db651 for a few simple reasons. 1.) Decibel sensitivity is 92dB (no amplifier required) 2.) Marine Certified (extremely important in a Jeep) and... 3.) Price!$! (with FREE installation gear you can't beat the price.) I read countless reviews and spec sheets and received mixed signals as to whether 6.5" speakers would actually fit into a soundbar w/out cutting or drilling. With the spacer/adapter bracket provided all you have to do is cut a bit of the cloth covering to make room for the adapter ring. Once this is done you can take the bracket and line up the holes on the inside with the holes already drilled into the soundbar that were used to secure the stock 5.25" speakers. Once you have secured the bracket to the soundbar all you have to do is connect the female and males ends from the speaker to the housing in the soundbar then screw the speaker into the bracket and you're finished! I awarded this speaker with 4 stars for sound quality with an additional star for make, look and features. When compared to the stock speakers the Polk blew them out of the water. I can't speak for all 6.5" speakers but I can say that these trump big names such as MTX, Sony Xplode, Kenwood and Pioneer. Keep in mind that there are indeed speakers that top these Polks any day but not if your spending less than $150 for a pair of mid-range speakers.
Very good product. When I called I asked what was best for what I have and Buck recommended these and they sound great. Got everything to install them. Shipping was super fast and service was super awesome
I installed these speakers in my 2006 VW Passat with the factory head. They sound great! I have had them installed for about 2 weeks now so I can't give a review on how long they will last. I don't need a lot of bass and these give me plenty. I am sure when I get around to replacing the factory head (with more power) they will sound even better. I was a little disappointed with crutchfield's instructions. I would only give them 3.5 out of 5. I have purchased from them in the past and the installation instructions have always been top notch. The instructions got my door panels off but they neglected to include instructions for disconnecting several of the door controller connectors. Also the pictures were not as detailed as in the past. They told me these speakers would not fit in my rear doors. They fit better in the rear doors than they did in the front doors. The front doors required a bit a custom mounting (which I was aware of). These simply fit right into place in the rear doors. I'm glad I took the gamble.
This is my second pair in a 2001 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab 4 door. They say that you have to purchase the short db651S for the front, do not believe it. The db651 fit perfectly. They are incredible! I absolutely love Polk's sound as well. Had the front rocking with the factory head unit for a couple of years. I recently just bought a second pair for the rear. The rear doors call for 4x6, plate, or 4" with adapter. It was SO easy to cut a small amout of 18ga. steel from the top and bottom of the hole (these require a 5" hole, the rest is overlap), drilled my own holes and used steel threading screws AND the little nut clips. They sound INCREDIBLE! My truck blows me away now! I also added the Kenwood KDC-HD545U! Also HIGHLY recommend. Plenty of crystal clear MOSFET power to pump all 4 and blow you away! I probably won't even add a subwoofer under the rear seat now. No need to. They push rock, metal, ska, techno, everything I can throw at them from my iPhone, iPod, thumb drive, CD, or the built in HD tuner. Get these bad boys!
Installed these in a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Infinity sound system. With the included adapter plate Installation was a snap, direct fit and under 2 1/2 hours. Sound is a huge improvement over the factory speakers
Wow! I bought these to replace my stock speakers in my 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and they sound terrific. I wanted better sound and more clarity than I had with the stock speakers without changing the stereo. I got what I was looking for. I have not used Polk speakers before but they sound great without adding any other equipment. I also bought the matching Polk 4x6 for behind the seat and now the truck sounds great. Installation was really easy and only took about 30 minutes with the included install items and instructions.
First, appreciated that the second pair was half price. The instructions that were sent for son's 2003 Toyota Matrix were very helpful. The wire harnesses that also were sent made it much easier. Had to improvise on a couple of minor things but not really an issue. Took some time on the first speaker but after that the whole process went pretty fast. As for the speakers, they were a huge improvement over the factory speakers. They sound much better with great clarity and depth. I read some reviews about bass not being that great but in my son's car its more than enough. We really see no reason to have an amplifier for these as the Kenwood stereo unit my son got seems to do the job just fine. He's very happy with these Polks!
I purchased the Polk Audio for my rear parcel tray of my vw sedan to supplement the other great Polk Audio ccmponent speakers I purhased for my wagon from Chrutchfield about 3 years ago.. Because the wagon had limited space for speakers with out modification and the sedan can accommodate a bigger speaker these speakers added a tremendous amount of depth to an already quality sound. My experiences with Crutchfield has always been good because the representatives are knowlegdeable and 90 percent of the purchases are shipped free and arrive with in a day or two.
these are kickin' speakers. They sound amazing
I replaced the factory gmc sierra speakers with these, sound awesome!
Bought a set of db651's and hooked them up to rockford punch 400.4 amp. These speakers deliver clear sound even at max levels. The grill gives these speakers a nice look, which I think is why people always comment on them when they get in my car. The db651's are a good addition to my sound system, delivering loud, crystal clear highs and mids that blow my mind every time and keep the smile on my face. I love these speakers.
Great Speakers, brought my bose system to life.
The first time I heard these speakers years ago I was impressed. Today, I still buy these same ones and they really sound good. I have Polk Audio DB series speakers in all of my cars. The clarity, the lows and highs just sound so good and clear. I have not considered any other I highly recommend these speakers you will be happy.
I put the 651 in my boat and a pair of 6 x 9 polks they really sound very nice and clear. The kicker amp really helped also. Thanks Daisy
I bought these speakers for my Jeep. Perfect fit for my car. Didn't even have to re-drill mounting holes! I am very pleased with the sound quality. For everyone who says they don't have good bass, DON"T LISTEN, they are comparing the speakers to Subs and of course they don't have as deep lows. Comparing to other speakers they have great bass. I have them hooked up to my factory receiver, so they are very limited. I bet they would sound amazing with a amp but thats just too much money and work.
I bought these per the recommendation of the Crutchfield salesman. They had a real low bass frequency spec and they really do put out the bass. I replaced all four factory drivers in a 2000 Volkswagen Passat (w/ monsoon), leaving the factory tweeters in tact. They are a great replacement speaker that sound much better than factory. Installation took some cutting of the metal speaker openings in order for the spring clip to fit. The plastic mounting ring that comes with the kit for this car doesn't work that well. I hope nothing loosens up and starts to rattle. The Polk adaptor ring saved the day. Lastly, I am very disappointed with the size of the speaker itself. The actual speaker is closer to 5 1/4" than 6.5"...but the sound is very good and still worth it.
Installed two pair in my 2005 Prius wow what a difference! They get better with use, a little break in period helps one appreciate the full sound that these rascals will produce. These db651's have exceptional depth for such a small speaker offering great clarity and have a smooth not brittle high end. This is sound you can live with for a long time. Installation was moderately easy once I figured out to mount the Polk speakers on top of the existing factory speaker. I just cut out the factory woofer cone, clipped the voice coil wires and the six plastic speaker supports and pulled out the speaker. The Polks then fit perfectly on top of the existing speaker frame. Wiring was a breeze with the Toyota wiring harness. The Crutchfield advisor guide does not recommend this speaker for my model car. It should start as I am truly pleased with my new addition and you will be too!
The speakers sound nice but does not have great bass. The midrange is awesome but the tweets are semi ok. They do have great clarity for the voices in songs.
I upgraded the head unit in my wife's 2002 Sienna minivan so she could use her ipod and let the kids watch dvds. I decided to upgrade the speakers at the same time. I chose the db651 speakers for the rear and the db6501 for the front. Although Crutchfield had noted these speakers as not fitting, I took a chance and purchased them anyway. Install was a breeze. No need for the adapter bracket. The holes were off just by a tiny bit from the oem. Lots of room on top and below the speaker. The sound is crisp and clean. I can here so much more detail in my music. Although the sound is good from the head unit at 14 watts RMS, Be sure to amp these to make them really come alive. I added Pioneer's 50 watt RMS amp and the traformation is fantastic. The bass is fine without a sub in my opinion.
Did a lot of research to find something that fits in my son's Chevy Colorado front doors and could handle his type of music. Read about these speakers...went to a local store to hear them...and we decided to order from Crutchfield. Very surprised how clear they sound and also surprised about the bass they put out; which seems to be a challenge for most speakers these days. I should also add that the free instructions wiring harnesses made installation much easier. We used the Dynamat speaker kit and I would suggest spending the extra money to add this to your installation project.
After a couple of years of use I added a JBL MA6004 Marine Amp (60 w x 4) to the JBL MR17 receiver and what a difference. Chose this amp as it matched the receiver and it was the 60 w rating of the speakers. Volume is the same now at setting 9 as it was at 30 with no distortion and better bass. Very pleased and would highly recommend adding an amp. Running them in a boat BTW. Upgraded rating to a five based on the improved sound with the amp. Seems durable as I've had them for two years in the elements and pounding of a boat.
I bought these speakers for my Toyota Solara convertible which had the factory stereo with the JBLs. The front doors have JBL 6.75"speakers and a 1" tweeters, and the rear side panels have a JBL 3.5" speaker (midrange). I planned on replacing them all with these Polk db651 speakers. After taking out the little rear speakers and installing the Polks, I thought there was a huge improvement over the 3.5" speakers, but there was not much bass even when turning up the bass and volume. The front JBL speakers had an incredible amount of bass when compared to the Polks. Since the JBLs are only 6.75", which are not much bigger than the Polks, there must be some reason why the Polks don't produce much bass. I thought it was because the actual cone size of the Polks is closer to 5" from edge to edge. I decided not to replace the front JBLs but to leave them in since they sounded so much better bass-wise than the Polks. The Polks do have a better midrange than the JBLs, and do seem to need more power to get them to produce the same level of sound than the front JBLs. They don't produce much bass at all, and not because of the Solara body enclosure It is probably because of the polymer/mylar type material that does not resonate bass frequencies as good as paper does. JBL uses paper. I have some old JBL L36s and they have 10" paper cone woofers and they sound incredible! In the case of speakers and paper vs. plastic, paper wins!
I needed to change out one of the speakes in my boat, it was starting to crack at higher levels. Did some browesing for marine speakers on crutchfield and found these. I bought a pair, thinking that these would be just okay. When I bought these speakers I decided to upgrade my radio as well.to a kenwood KMR330. I installed these speakers and radio and.......WOW!!! These speakers sounded so much better than my old speakers. Bass was deaper (although not a sub, but definatly an improvment) and highs were cleaner. They well exceeded my expitations. The only problem was because these speakers sounded so good compaired to my other one's. I had to buy another pair to replace the other two. Just installed them and the boat sounds great. I highly recommend them.
These are some of the best speakers I have ever heard, period. A couple reviews say these speakers aren't better than stock and have no bass. I have to question what they've done with their install because there is nothing further from the truth. I ran these solely off of my Alpine CDA-105 head unit for several days just to see how they sounded and they were terrific. Today I installed the Alpine Power Pack "mini" amp and they sound incredible. Every bit as warm and full as the stock speakers, but with amazing clarity and great bass response. In fact these things can thump pretty good. I've been a Crutchfield customer for 17 years and never once have I not been satisfied. Everyone I've dealt with has been nothing short of professional. BIG shout out to Marie here! She listened intently to my questions and treated me like a friend. She really cared about helping me find the perfect speaker for what I wanted to do. We actually agreed that a Pioneer would be the best choice for me, but thanks to the review of another member who also owns a Chevy Colorado, I decided to give these a shot. So glad I did! Thanks Polk, Crutchfield and Marie! Buy these. You will not regret it.
Bought 2 pairs of these speakers after reading tons of reviews about them...95% seemed positive and for a good reason. then crutchfield put them on sale...decision made...these speakers sound great for the price i paid. i will have to agree with some previous posts...the bass is not as deep as i expected, the factory speakers in my '02 CRV were a little deeper than these, but the Polks sound much, much better. i didnt expect thunderous bass from some 2-way 6.5s, but maybe they'll get a little deeper when they break in. but then again, this result may differ depending on the vehicle application. on my JVC receiver the factory speakers would distort at about 20 on the volume knob, the polks have gone past 30 without any distortion/loss of sound quality...that was as loud as i wanted to go before they break in fully. the highs are perfect, the mids are great and the lows are ample. the overall sound quality is amazing. overall, i am extremely glad i made the choice. you wont be disappointed with the shallow mounts if you application requires them, like mine did. these things are loud and i fully intend on hooking my Rockford amp up to them to give them the power that they want...crutchfields customer service is the best, i ran into a few snags while installing these and called customer service. the tech support guy, shawn (sean?), knew exactly how to get me back on track. thanks crutchfield.
Ok, so these are the 4th pair of speakers I have put in my rear deck of my car..I am a freak when it comes to sound..and my ears hear EVERY detail. That being said, these speakers sound AMAZING! I was missing the mid bass with the last pair (Alpine SPG 17C2) so I replaced them with these baby's, they cover ALL the details! I was amazed at the detail in the bass and the highs are crisp and clear. Some things to remember for the best sound: don't power them with anything less then 18 watts RMS power, also if you have a bass boost on your stereo USE IT! these speakers handle it like a pro and it sounds great!! Hope this helps some of you. :-)
I recently purchased these to upgrade my Chevy Colorado's terrible stock system. My plan was to pair these (rear) and a pair of db 6501 components (front) with a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X794. My plan was to use deck power only and eventually add a sub. Well let me tell you, these things paired with the 6501s are so awesome I am no longer in such a rush to add the sub. No kidding, and remember I'm only using deck power. What I first noticed upon installing these speakers was incredibly smooth sound. Very silky highs, great definition and superb balance up and down the spectrum. Flat eq was tremendous, but when I engaged the bass boost in the Kenwood I heard more low end than I ever expected out of any 6.5" speaker driven with such relatively little power. I run the db crossovers at neutral tweeter level, added just a little high end in the head unit and bingo: sonic nirvana.I will still move forward with my sub plans, but fear not: these speakers, with a good head unit, are just fantasitc and at a price that cannot be beat. They are the perfect and a very affordable complement to components up front. I found myself driving around today just so I could enjoy the sound quality.
