Give new life to your music

Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.

Polk's db651s shallow-mount speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that stand up to heat and moisture. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction. With a 2" mounting depth, these speakers can fit into some tight places. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio.

These speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware and muscular ABS grilles that will add a stylish touch to your car's interior. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.

Product Highlights:

  • 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers for shallow mounts

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

2006 Honda Civic LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I delivery of the product was very fast. The master sheet is Ok for the instructions. Back to review: PoldDB651s: Sound quality is quite better as compared to the stock speakers. But, for this to understand you don have to be an audiophile instead just by the look of the dbs you can make that out. The speakers are good for high and better for Mids but worst for Low(Bass). If you are planning to change these just for the sake of getting the stock ones out then it is OK but if the purpose is for enhanced listening experience then have some bucks extra for upcoming changes. I connected these to the HU already available so I am not sure how would they sound with the amplifier but from what I assume they wont better in the low section ever. Definitely they would go up more on Mid's and High's on high volume but who wants that on high vol? Generally speaking the Low are the ones that are expected to thumping with balanced sound. To do these do as I did:

Order a subwoofer immediately before you get more frustrated with the low bass sound. I would suggest ordering a Powered subwoofer which can stay in the cabin allowing you to balance the sound properly. Specially for Civic 2006 Coupe: Firstly the rear speakers are pain in the butt. The space is extremely less. To pry the top cover in rear dont forget push the panel above reason being the clips that hold it. To get them out dont pull towards you instead apply force vertically. Finally I guess the overall quality & sound is go

Pros: Crisp High, Good Mid, balanced sound. Better built quality as compared to stock ones.

Cons: Poor performance on bass. Distortion on high vol which I assume can be removed by connecting an amp and external sub ofcourse.

Love the speakers!

Thought They Lacked Power and Punch Until...

Written by: KatGo from san francisco, CA on January 31, 2016

After replacing stock radio with Pioneer receiver, thought adding 4 new speakers to my 1999 Jeep Cherokee would give me all the power and sound I needed. But when I turned up the volume to about 30, the radio powered off like it was over-loading. Checked all the wiring then called Crutchfield and was told that I probably needed a subwoofer--that my system was under-powered. They recommended a Sound Ordinance powered subwoofer (they liked it and was popular), stating that it would meet my requirement of fitting under my passenger seat, but they were wrong. I did my own measurements and bought the Kenwood KSC-SW11 at eBay for much lower price. Fits perfectly, and there are good metal grounding locations there and holes for vents. Installation was easy, and sound was good, but receiver still powered off when I turned the volume up. Noticed it was worse on hot days, and fan/AC controls got hot to the touch. Googled this and found that my blower fan was failing and causing some high heat on the dash temp controls. Bought a new fan, and BOOM, no more radio cutting out at very high volume! Love Crutchfield, but you guys were wrong about everything, including stating that 6 1/2 speakers wouldn't fit the rear ceiling. I will say that bass was definitely lacking before adding the subwoofer. I don't listen to anything boomy, like Rap so don't need to rattle the windows, but the Kenwood will definitely vibrate all the seats and doors! Don't even want a newer SUV anymore!

Pros: Clear, clean highs and mids for voice and acoustic instruments. Very easy install that "even a girl can do". Ha.

Cons: Thin bass and mids.

Installed these in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the factory Alpine system. This upgraded system stinks! I knew I needed some aftermarket speakers. Crutchfield made the install super easy after it came within 36 hours of the order (we are pretty close to their location). Anyway, I added some polly fill to the empty sound bar and WOW, these make a heck of a improvement even still with the factory head unit and none of the other speakers touched, I am pretty satisfied with these, and will probably order another set for the dash. Props to Crutchfield for including everything I needed.

Pros: Relatively inexpensive, easy to install, marine rated, clear highs and full lows.

Cons: Mid range is just okay

Great improvement in sound in my 2012 Subaru Outback! Well worth doing. Crutchfield instructions were clear and accurate. Holding the new and old speakers in my hands, what a difference. No wonder the new ones sound so much better.

Pros: Installation went fine, sound is terrific!

Cons: Nothing really.Maybe it could have been mentioned that the speaker adapter rings go with the front speakers, no need for them on the rear. But that does become self evident once you get into it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Opted to go the 6.5" route after finding out that the Kicker 6x9's I ordered for my 2008 Ram didn't quite fit (the ever elusive fourth hole!). The supplied adapter plate made it a an exact and airtight fit with foam gasket material. Wasn't expecting this much improvement in every catagory! Super tight midbass punch with frightening clarity. Even when using with the factory head unit the difference is amazing. I was worried about a loss of bass but after break-in that all diminished. My bass, midrange and treble settings are all set to flat now. Worth every penny.

Pros: Build construction and clarity

Cons: Supplied hardware although stainless steel was a little cheesy. Wound up using the hardware supplied with the adapter plate to mount the speakers.

2009 Acura MDX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They are a good price and sound really good. The installation was difficult. The door panel came off as the instructions showed but the speaker was too large for the adapter plate. The original screw holes were covered by the speaker and needed a lot of grinding to make the access and a relief for the screw heads. A 5.25 inch speaker would have been installed with no modification. I called customer support and they explained that "they" should have explained that when I bought them. The screws supplied could not reach the adapter plate. I was surprised by the number of issues from a large supplier.

Pros: great sound and price.

Cons: Installation could have been a lot easier. Supplied adapter plate screws were too short to reach the sheet metal nuts.

2003 Subaru Baja
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers as direct replacements for my wife's car, Subaru Baja sport. They are shockingly good.

The sensitivity allows the stock head to preform very well. One could lose hearing in this car now, with stock speakers you had to run level 8 to hear them level 4 starts to become uncomfortable now. They are very clean sounding good mid-range and highs. The lows are much better than expected. The separation of sound is very good for this type of speaker. I really cannot say enough about them. Just a few years ago you would have to spend $500 to $800 for this kind of sound. Add the marine rating and you have real winners!

Pros: Ease of fit. Great highs and mid good lows for this type of speaker.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced front door speakers with these Polk db651s. I've been a Polk customer and owner since 1983. There's a reason for that. Polk makes a good product. When I buy something for a fair price and it does what I expect it to do, I'm happy. These Polks were fairly priced and produce a good sound. I'm happy with them.

Pros: Quality speakers which produce a good sound for a fair price

Cons: Had to cut the plastic pins in the door mount to get speakers to fit. This does not affect the security of the speakers' mounting. The Metra 72-9300 wiring harness is not an exact match to the car's harness plug. It mates, but the plastic tab on the car's plug has nothing on the Metra plug into which it can lock. Friction keeps the plugs mated, but I taped around them with electrical tape just to be sure. Also, harness is too short if car plug kept connected to door. Not a problem, though.

These are probably some of the best improvements in sound for the least price. Relatively simple to install please remember that one of the mounting brackets inside the sound bar of the jeep wranglers is longer than the others make note of this as installation is easier when you remember which one of these to orient to.

Pros: Great price good improvement in sound certainly much better than the bass speakers

Cons: installation instructions were somewhat generic please pay attention to the one mounting bracket that is longer than the others within the sound bar the adapter cables were easy to use and a huge asset

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Polk Audio speakers sound very good, a serious upgrade over stock speakers. Some say the bass is not very good and others say it's great; which is correct. They both are. A 6.5" speaker physically can't produce bone rattling base, I don't care who makes it. These speakers produce a tight well defined mid-base, which is what they are designed to do. I plan to add a sub-woofer later. However, these Polk Audios do a good job of producing clean, well defined audio. The highs are crisp without being harsh, the mid and mid-bass are very good.

Pros: Good accurate sound.

Cons: None

This was an excellent fit and the brackets and wire harness made the install smooth. The only problem I had was I didn't receive the MasterSheet. Since I had never done this before, there was a slight learning curve. My buddy and I figured it and in the end all is well. Speakers sound great and I am happy. Well done Crutchfield. One favor, can u send me the MasterSheet just so I can have a copy. Thank You again.

2002 Jeep Liberty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had my driver side door speaker go out and bought these to replace both front door speakers. My Liberty has the OEM Infinity stereo, I have always liked the way it sounded, good deep base. With the install of these, no more base. I bought them for the 50hz low rating vs. others at 70hz and above. If you have a sub, there is probably not a problem, they sound good and clean, the base they have is tight and you can turn them up without any signs of sloppy sound, they stay clean. Just not the deep base I was hoping to keep. Buy the MB-Quart ZK1-116 (20-20,000hz) rating.

Pros: Good clean sound even at elevated volumes.

Cons: No base below ~80hz

Speaker good, mounting bracket is Bad

Written by: Attention to Detail from Tennessee on November 16, 2015

2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed into a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: The speakers are good, just be sure to make sure the little capacitors that are on the back side of the speakers are not loose, they come loose pretty easy. So what I did was used a little silicone caulk to hold them in place, I would suggest doing this even if they are not loose. Also the mounting brackets Crutchfield sends for free are terrible. They work ok for the front but not for the rear sound bar. The best thing to use for the rear sound bar is the metal bracket that the factory speaker is actually made of. What you do is cut the biggest part of the metal ring of the speaker away from the speaker (this destroys the factory speaker but you end up with a solid metal ring you can screw the new speaker to. This makes for a solid mount.

Pros: Speaker sounds good!

Cons: Mounting brackets from Crutchfield are flimsy and crack easily.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to install in a 2000 Tacoma access cab after listening to the DB651 speakers at best buy. I had to buy slim speakers due to the limited space so options were very limited. I knew i would lose some bass compared to the not-slim version of the speaker, but didnt realize it would be such a difference. Overall though i am satisfied with the purchase. The clarity is great on these, just lacking some bump in the low range.

Pros: great clarity for mids and highs slim fit

Cons: lack of bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound clear! After some modification to factory "fill plate" in place of tweeters these fit perfectly in my Nitro. Plenty of excess wire and installation options. I think if I had to do it over again I would chose a different tweeter given my vehicle, by no means is it the tweeter itself. I just believe these are better suited for a vehicle with tweeters being placed in a deeper dash location compared to the lack of depth I have in given the Jeep windshield so close to the driver, or shallow dashboard. I was able to adjust to sound decent with Polk db641s.

Pros: Sound clear and easy install

Cons: None

Really happy with the sound from these speakers. They seem well built to endure the abuse a car speaker will have to encounter. It's amazing the sound quality you can get for your dollar these days. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced 4 factory speakers in my 2013 Honda Accord, which were OK, just not very good. I was looking for a little clearer highs, and some added depth. I had no illusions that I would be creating a "thumping" system - for that I will need a powered Subwoofer. These coaxial Polks gave me exactly what I expected in terms of a quality speaker system - a nicely rounded out sound experience. Since my son was helping me install these speakers, it wasn't hard at all :-)

Pros: Nice, crisp sound. Great price.

Cons: The included installation instructions fall a bit short. I reccomend using You Tube to research your install.

2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers sound clean and clear. The efficiency is much better than the factory speakers that were replaced. My install was an 07 Trailblazer. The website said fits with adapter. That was an understatement. When I did a test fit of the adapter and speaker into the housing on the car door, I knew there would be cutting. I called Crutchfield to confirm my thoughts and the tech service said, yes, it looks like a tight fit. I proceeded with lots of cutting and some drilling until I got the speakers installed. I did not expect to spend several hours doing the install, as the website stated fits with adapter. I have had much easier installs on other cars I have owned.

Pros: Speakers sound great and are very efficient.

Cons: Fit with my vehicle was difficult.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were perfect to replace the stock speakers in the doors. 2 sets of these, one for the front doors and one for the rear allowed a simple install with no modifications required. I coupled it with the Kenwood Excelon DPX791BH and even with the stock amps and the typical road noise issues with the Element, these are amazing and all I need. The installation has my son saying, "Wow, these speakers sound really good, Dad." - I think he is angling for the car in a year or two....

Pros: Perfect fit. Largest speakers I could find for my Honda Element without cutting into anything.

Cons: None.

Purchased these speakers for my Toyota Tundra 2002. Matched them to a Clarion Cx 501. I was frankly disappointed about the difference or lack thereof from my 20 watt original speakers by Toyota. I'm not sure why that is since I was advised to purchase exactly these speakers with the particular Clarion head unit I already had installed. The improvement with the head unit from the previous head unit was significant with the factory speakers. I was simply hoping for an even better improvement using the Polk speakers. I actually replaced all four. I wish I could give these speakers a better rating.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed 4 of these in a Corolla 4 years ago and they are still going strong. Those are a ken wood head unit and a 4x40 ken wood amp. They are paired with a Bazooka tube and two 3 1/2" Polk tweeters. The speakers are so good I just purchased 4 more for my Tacoma.

Pros: They are great when paired with some tweeters and a Bazooka tube. They sound very crisp, and clear. You hear so much more than the factory speakers. As usual Crutchfield answered all my questions and supplied all the instructions and hardware. I have been buying from them since the late 70's and see no reason to shop anywhere else.

Cons: None

Polk Audio DB651S

Written by: Daver from Kentucky on August 31, 2015

I replaced the factory 6x9's in my Chrysler 200 and they sound great. Installation was a breeze with the adaptor plates that came with the Polk speakers. They add another level of sound you just can get with the factory speakers. Support was great in recommending the Polk DB651S to match an older Polk component set of speakers that I installed in the front door panels.

Pros: Crisp highs and solid mid-bass.

Cons:

I have put this speaker or an earlier version in 4 cars and they have never failed me. In fact, I had put some other name brand 5.25's in the doors of my last install (my daughter's care - to save her a little money) and they were really lacking. Two months later I replaced them with these Polk's because I knew they were great - the difference was amazing and the system sounds fantastic now - like originally intended.

Pros: Nice full range and can take good amount of power/volume. Great Value - excellent performance for a relatively inexpensive speaker..

Cons: None.

These speakers are far superior to the stock speakers in my truck. They sound great and for the price, cant be beat.

Pros: easy install, great sound quality for the money. DEFINITELY a significant step up from stock speakers

Cons: When one of those songs with a lot of bass comes on the sound becomes distorted and "tinny" at high volumes. Not a big deal since most songs don't fall into this category. ***I am not running an amp so your experience might be different if you are/will

My 2001 Chevy Tahoe had speakers which were rusty and rotting so I replaced them with the Polk Audio DXi-651s, and upgraded the stock stereo to the Kenwood KDX-X799. Great combination, sounds great and even the stock sub woofer sounds much better. I will be upgrading that soon. As usual Crutchfield service is the best. 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polk Audio db651s speakers sound great, look like they are built to last, and were easy to install in my 2003 Chevy Silverado. The door-ajar chime also now works! The enclosed door panel removal instructions were helpful, and there are also several "You Tube" videos available that provide similar information in a more visual format. The GM compatible wiring harnesses proved to be very helpful, since no cutting, splicing or soldering was required. The Metra 82-3002 mounting brackets were also very helpful, since no drilling of the door panels was required. However, the Metra instructions only referenced 1995-1999 Chevrolet and GMC pick-up trucks, which caused me to confirm with Crutchfield that I received the correct speaker mounting brackets. Also, the instructions for the speaker mounting brackets have a diagram on the front page which shows two speaker mounting brackets which mirror each other (i.e. a left and a right). However, my sealed package from Metra included two speaker brackets which were exactly the same (i.e. two lefts, or two rights). If the two speaker mounting brackets had been mirror-image, no alterations would have been required. For this installation, to flush mount the speaker mounting bracket on the driver-side door, the removal of one large plastic tab from the right side of one bracket was required. The safest way, to avoid breaking the bracket, was to carefully cut off the plastic tab with a coping saw.

Pros: The Polk Audio db651s speakers sound great, look like they are built to last, and were easy to install in my 2003 Chevy Silverado.

Cons: The Metra 82-3002 speaker mounting brackets should include two brackets that mirror each other (i.e. one designed for the driver-side door, and one designed for the passenger-side door).

I replaced the stock speakers in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with these speakers. The speakers are crisp, loud with no distortion, and sound really good. My sub doesn't overpower them like it has in other vehicles. I can actually listen to music and hear everything instead of just the thumping of the bass. The speakers by themselves have no bass pushing them with the 50 watts from my receiver, but I have an amp and sub for that.

Written by: Aaron from Austin, Texas on April 26, 2015

I have them in the doors of my 2005 corolla, JVC head unit, and powered by a sound ordnance 75x4 amp. I can push these almost to max on the amp, and that's plenty loud for anything I can imagine. I listen to everything from rock to folk to hip hop and everything in between. I'm pretty used to live concert level audio from the front row. While these don't quite get that loud, they get darn near close enough for me. I work as a courier, so I'm driving all day, and I have not found fault with these yet. But beware! These do not go low enough to use without a sub. As long as you have or are planning on a sub, these will be perfect. If you don't want a sub, I've heard that the db651 NOT db651S has a much better bass response (35Hz vs 50Hz) for the same price. All in all, great door speakers.

Great price for a great speaker. I've read reviews with people unhappy with the bass quality. One thing I believe they have in common is that they were not running an amplifier to them (your factory head unit does not have enough power to run these speakers well). I installed these speakers (55W RMS) with an alpine head unit and alpine amplifier equaling 45W RMS and they sound phenomenal! Mids and highs are sharp and crisp and the bass is Amazing! I drive a S2000 and only have two 6.5" speakers with some tweeters and it's impressive how much bass there is. I can't wait till the surround and spider are broken in on the speakers. I heard that these speakers sound noticeably better after they are broken in with even more bass!

These are for the rear doors of a 2006 Silverado CC HD. I am using these as mid/tweet since I have a powered subwoofer. I powered them from a SO 50W amp and they sound great! I have the amp set to HP and are feeding these 80Hz and above. I intentionally left out the low frequencies so the speakers could work in their designed range. I have the 6501 separates in the front doors powered from the same amp and I think these sound better, more balanced. Though crutchfield said I could not fit the non-S version I am pretty sure my door would have taken them no problem. I still don't regret getting the shallow version because as I said, these sound great. Not sure how happy I would be with these without a subwoofer.

Definitely a sound upgrade to the stock speakers. Powered by an Alpine HU. But the bracket used to install is a bit difficult to anchor. The long machine screw head can't be fully seated because the edge of the mounting bracket gets in the way. Fortunately I was able to snap the door panel over it even though it protruded some. Written by: HansonT from Florida on March 17, 2015

I own a 2009 HHR with cheap Mexican made speakers and all 4 failed after 5 years....BUT, in my case, I disagree with the Crutchfield statement: "The speakers that originally came in your car were......designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience." Well, I love music and these Polks aren't that good. I installed one Polk in the front passenger door, and compared this to the original speaker in the driver door. No comparison. We listened to jazz, rock, jams, reggae and more. The basic original speakers in the HHR kick butt...but they don't last. They corrode and fail...but absolutely sound the best - at loud volumes, soft, across any style of music. PLUS - when you simply replace the original Delco speakers guess what? They FIT the door with no customization, drilling, holes to fill, adapters...none of that monkey business. They fit perfect. Get the original AC Delco speakers people. You wont regret it. Besides, the adapter rings they send you for Polk speakers DO NOT FIT!

Pros: May be fine for a boat - they're water resistant marine speakers.

Cons: They simply do not sound as good as my HHR's original AC Delco car speakers. Less range, less volume, harsher sounding...everything squashed in the middle....AND they do not fit the hole in the HHR door - SO only option for owners? Rip out the bad speakers and reuse the original speaker chassis (lots of work) or just by original replacement speakers.

Crutchfield response on March 23, 2015 It's normal to sometimes hear a drop in volume or intensity when replacing your factory speakers because aftermarket speakers tend to require more power than factory speakers do. That's a side effect of being a better quality speaker. When you placed your order, you might've seen that we also recommend installing foam baffles when you replace the speakers in the HHR. Mind you, we recommend doing this in general to help your new speakers sound their best, but in the HHR, baffles are almost a necessity to help seal the space around the speakers. Those would make a big difference in the quality of the sound you're hearing. Without them, a lot of your music is being dispersed inside the door panel. If you aren't satisfied with the Polk speakers, give us a call. You can return them, exchange them, or try adding a pair of baffles. Whatever you choose, we'll be glad to help - just give us a call.

Pretty Good...

I bought these speakers to replace the stock door speakers in my 2008 FJ Cruiser.

I still had the stock head unit. After install I was disappointed to hear how much bass response I actually lost. The stock speakers weren't anything to write home about. From the reviews it looks like the slim version (the ones this review is on) don't have as great bass response and the non-slim versions are better.

However, after I replaced my head unit with a better aftermarket one that has 22RMS - the sound improvement was much better. I love the crisp high's and strong mids. These sound better than the pioneer 6x8's I have in my mustang but not as great as the boston acoustic's I had in my Celica.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used them as a replacement for my Forester 2012 factory system. The result was very disappointing: the stock speakers had much better bass, however the mid-range frequencies and the highs are somewhat better. I guess it was a bad idea and total waste of money.

Pros: More clear mid- and high frequencies response

Cons: Bass lower than in stock speakers (even for Forester 2012)

Crutchfield response on March 16, 2015 That's a common reaction when replacing car speakers. What you can expect to hear from a new speaker is better clarity and definition in the mids and highs. So your music will sound better and more lifelike, but you might not hear more bass. The only way to get more bass is to add more power, and if you want to keep the factory radio, that means adding an amplifier. A small (40-50 watts), 4-channel amp can supply twice the power of an aftermarket stereo and three or four times the power of the typical factory radio. That'll improve all the sound, but you'll especially hear it in the fullness of the bass.

Excellent Sound

Written by: Michael from Oregon on March 8, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound couldn't be better. I own a 2008 Acura TL Type-S. I replaced my rear deck speakers and my door speakers with these Polk Audio 6 1/2" speakers. The bracket that comes with them is useless for both locations. For the rear deck get an angle drill (I used a Milwaukee angle for a cordless drill) and drill through the sheet metal (easiest way to get the hole pattern is by using the felt ring that comes with the speaker). Plug in the supplied harness and screw in the speakers (I had to get 1 1/2" screws from the hardware store because the supplied screws are too short).

For the door speakers, Crutchfield says that these speakers will not fit. They are wrong! They fit so perfectly I wonder if anyone at Crutchfield actually tried. Once again, the supplied bracket is useless. All you have to do is cut off the tabs that stick up on the factory speaker mount then mount the Polk Audio speakers using the factory screws. Don't forget to plug the wire harness in before you mount the speaker. DONE!

Pros: They fit my car. They sound amazing. They are priced right.

Cons: none.

Good speaker for the price. Crutchfield does not have any wiring harness so the wires need to be cut and sliced. The color wires on my stock harness did not match what Crutchfield had. Easy to install, installed all four speakers in less than three hours. When reading the tricks about using a rag to take off window crank be careful to do this with the door shut will help you contain the clip to put handle back in place if you do it with door open it will shoot off like a rocket. Sound quality is outstanding for acoustics not for bass heads ad a sub and amp. Love these speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace some factory speakers that were just so tiny that just did not do sound any justice. I bought a powered sub to go along with these. By the time I had almost everything installed on this car, which this was a major overhaul on the sound system with upgrades, I ran out of daylight and just cleaned everything up to finish in the morning. My wife took her car to the store and the difference between the factory speakers and these was night and day. I have yet to find any distortion on these to see if the claim from Polk is accurate and thus fare their design has surpassed all my expectations. These speakers have extreme clarity. I highly recommend these to replace any factory speakers or to build a system with 6.5's.

Pros: Perfect clarity and with no distortion that I could hear at high volumes.

Cons: None yet.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have installed these speakers in a number of vehicles, two Acura TL's 2002 &2003, Jeep Cherokee 1993 and a jaguar XJ6 1995. They are real quality, They really handle the highs and midrange well. The end result in the Acuras was the best due to having the bass handled by a separate sub woofer. I think I should have gone with a different speaker for the jag since it didn't have a sub. The quality of construction is excellent and I like the finish of the tweeter and the speaker materials. In each application I bought the wiring kit to make connecting the to the factory plugs super easy.

Pros: Fit and finish is awesome. The slim design makes it an easy install in a number of different vehicles.

Cons: needs to be paired with a separate sub for optimal application. Plays normal music perfectly but the bass struggles with Rock and Rap. I can't say enough how accurate the sound seems in my Acura's.

Installed in a 97 Honda Civic with no modification. Factory grilles fit right back over them nicely. I am driving these with a 50RMS x 4 old MTX amplifier I've had for years and they are very loud and clear. The highs do get a bit harsh at ridiculous volume but there's really no reason to push them that hard and they perform adequately at the volume level most will be listening at. Acceptable bass response at lower volumes but you will need to pull some bass out from your EQ if you want them up loud.

Pros: Price & Performance

Cons: A tad harsh at very high volume

I placed these speakers in my wife's 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4-door, in the dash. Had to practically take the dash apart to get to the boxes that the speakers rest in. But, I got it done, and I'm not what I would call "mechanically inclined". I needed the adapters and the bracket Crutchfield provided, which worked perfectly. Install was otherwise simple.

The speakers are providing clear crisp highs with powerful midrange sound. I keep the bass low since all of my bass goes through my subwoofers. The speakers are powered by only the radio's power, no amp, and still the sound is strong and clear.

Pros: Marine certified. Easily installed. Crisp highs and mids.

2013 Kia Rio
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these for my daughter's Kia Rio, and we couldn't be happier. Solid, genuine acoustic engineering goes into the design of Polk speakers, and it's reflected in their sound...great dynamics and tonal integrity. As far as low frequency performance, I've often read reviews here complaining about bass response of the car speakers they've purchased, manufacturer not withstanding. These folks need to realize that they install these relatively small speakers into doors and side panels, these are typically free-air environments. Without a sealed or vented enclosure behind the speaker, there is nothing to reinforce the low-frequency response...you simply can't expect anything much below around 60 hertz or so in these situations. It's got nothing to do with the brand of speaker, so give 'em a break for crying out loud. I'd also like to mention that I'm paraplegic, and a while back I'd bought a set of Polk db 6x9's to put in the modified van that I drive from my wheelchair. I had a friend of mine install them for me and when he was tightening a screw, the screwdriver slipped and punched a hole in the cone. I called Polk and explained what had happened and asked how much a new speaker would be, since you generally can't buy them individually. He just asked me to give him my address so that he could ship out a replacement speaker for me! That is the kind of customer service that inspires lifelong brand-loyalty. Needless to say, we've got Polk speakers throughout our home and cars.

Pros: Build quality (I don't know why some mfg's still use foam surrounds on their speakers..bound to rot and fall apart), tonal accuracy, great tweeters that never get fatiguing, they just plain sound great

Cons: Nope

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2012 2500 Ram Crew rear door replacements. These speakers are a definite improvement over the light 6"x9" factory units. Everything included to make this a 45 minute job start to finish. The speakers sound solid and clear, but an amp would take full advantage of their quality construction. The Polk db651s are Marine rated, so a bit of moisture inside the door shouldn't affect them.

Pros: Good improvement over stock, quality components, Crutchfield supplies ALL needed hardware to install.

Cons: At $65 per pair there is really no downside to these speakers.

Polk Speakers

Written by: Don from Tonopah, NV on September 8, 2014

1999 Toyota Tacoma
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers sound great. Contrary to other reviews, there is more than enough bass to satisfy most people. I suspect the people who are criticizing these speakers for lack of bass probably walk around with subwoofers wired to their ears. My only criticism of these speakers is the poor mounting design. Polk's engineers missed the boat on this one! They use four small machined screws to mount the speakers to your brackets. The tiny screw head fit into a C-shaped cut out rather than a hole or oval. Once you tighten them, you better hope they don't slip off the C slot or you have to remount them. Since these are mounted in a truck that will see bumpy desert roads, I'm not impressed with their ability to stand up over time. I had to go to the hardware store and spend $5 on longer screws and tiny washers just to make sure they stay mounted to the brackets. Then I trimmed off the excess screw shank with a Dremel cutoff wheel. If you can live with this, they're great speakers with decent sound.

Pros: Speakers sound great.

Cons: Factory mounting setup is pure garbage. You'll need longer screws of the same type and thin washers to keep the screw heads from slipping out of the cheesy C-shaped mounting "holes".

2004 Dodge Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far I am pleased with my purchase. They were on sale so I feel that I got a good deal. I bought two pair to install in the doors of a ram quad cab. The magnet on these was bigger than the magnet on the stock 6x9's that came out of the front door, but smaller than the 6.5's that were in the rear doors. I am pleased with the sound. It is brighter an clearer than the stock speakers. They seem louder than the stock speakers. But I seem to get some harsh mids when really cranking the Alpine head unit. Another reviewer complained that these had no bass. They don't and you should not expect them to. I have some 10" polk subs that take care of the bass. One thing I did not like was the way the screw holes were built into the speaker. When tightening the screws it caused to surround to deform. I was not clamping down as tight as I would like. Install was a snap -- my 9-year old was able to get the stock speakers out and screwed the front door speaker in. You can see the gunmetal bronze cones behind the stock speaker grill, they look great. Thanks for the adaptor plates and plugs! That is why I tell my friends to buy from Crutchfield. I was able to get most of the speaker holes to line up with stock mounting holes. I only had to drill one out.

Pros: Fits well, cool look. Bright clean highs. Free installation accessories from Crutchfield.

Cons: Harsh when cranked up. When secured tightly with the screws provided the surround deformed.
