Our take on the Polk Audio db651s

Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.

Give new life to your music

Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.

Polk's db651s shallow-mount speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that stand up to heat and moisture. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction. With a 2" mounting depth, these speakers can fit into some tight places. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio.

These speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware and muscular ABS grilles that will add a stylish touch to your car's interior. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.

The clarity is undeniable!

2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to upgrade my stock system in my 2004 Chevy Silverado but being a car audio novice I was soon awash in confusing tech data and specification charts. Tim, my outstanding Crutchfield sales rep, suggested the pairing of the Polk Audio db651 with the Kenwood Excelon DPX592BT. Everything came in one box with great instructions. I must admit, these Polk Audio speakers looked so sharp, I contemplated how I might surface mount these speakers just to show them off! As soon as I completed the straightforward install, I cranked up my favorite jams and was instantly satisfied that I had been well advised! The clarity is unbelievable! My truck is an extended cab model, so I had also placed a pair of Polk Audio db461p's in the rear panels. I elected not to install an amp or subwoofer, so I will not be shaking any lugnuts off the wheels, but the music has a very high quality reproduction for my modest investment and it is plenty loud! Thank you, Tim, for the guidance and great suggestions and thank you Crutchfield for outstanding customer support!

Pros: Sharp design, quality materials, amazing reproduction of sound.

Cons: Haven't found any yet. Still tweaking.

2007 Toyota Yaris
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It has been a week now since I installed these speaker. They need a good week or so to break in as all speakers do as these in particular sounded way too treble strong and no mids but after some brake in time I have noticed the mids are finally getting stronger and sound better. The highs tamed down a bit but are the dominating sound of the speaker. The bass is fine with me, it sounds very good, deep, controlled and blends nicely with the mids. I don't like a lot of bass as I am an audiophile and like my sound as natural sounding as possible but again I really don't need a sub unless you like a lot of bass then you will need one. I will say that I find that these speakers bring out the detail of your recordings especially high end recordings. They are very good with classical, Jazz and acoustic Music/New Age. I find myself looking forward to driving for this reason as my Windham Hill CD sounds amazingly detailed and nice. I like hearing the remastered down loads from my iPod and phone as it sounds very good. some radio stations sound good to me others sound bad the crank up the highs and lows leaving a very un-natural sound. so it depends on your musical preference. I am giving it four stars as the highs can be a little dominating at times. All in all I really do enjoy these speakers.

Pros: Built in cross over, bring out the detail in good music recordings. Cooled tweeter.

Cons: The highs can be a little strong at times.

2013 Nissan Sentra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed my new Polk db651s last week. I love the crisp refreshing they produce especially compared the the original factory speakers. The factory speakers sounded ok but the new Polks are awesome. I've always enjoyed buying my electronics through Crutchfield. Their support is second to none, plus they provide the " extras" to make installation easy. My answer to installing new speakers is patience. Taking apart the rear deck area of my Nissan Sentra was a pain but with the step by step instructions Crutchfield provides it wasn't bad at all, again, patience! Overall I throughly enjoy the quality sound my new Polk speakers produce.

Pros: Great quality sound. Well built product.

Cons: None.

2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I went through all stages with these speakers starting with them alone on the factory head unit. Then came the rockford fosgate p300-10 followed by a pioneer nav unit pushing 14w rms over 4 channels. That setup sounded really good but they seemed drowned by the sub so in goes the Polk pa660 at something like 70w rms over the 4 channels at 4ohms and WOW. Now thesr tiny things are drowning my sub. Upgrade the sub to the JL audio 12" powerwedge and POW! Balanced system! (Still gonna add the rockford back in for kicks!) Anyone who says they're junk has no idea how to make them thump and scream...cuz they WILL

Pros: Incredible sound for the size and price and the marine grade is a major plus.

Cons: I'm getting a little 'bright' ness out of them but don't know if its the amp or head unit or a bad cable yet(still working on that one)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a little skeptical on how a slim speaker could handle any sort of bass or mids, but this speaker does not disappoint! Within seconds of swapping one out and doing a test from left to right, the clarity was amazing and it handles volume well too! I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to upgrade their stock speakers!

Pros: Clear Sound, Crisp Highs and Bass, Compact, Inexpensive

Cons: None

Great sound and durability

2001 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been a long-time Polk Audio customer, beginning with a pair of their RT10 towers for stereo listening and home theater (still have them). I've since used their speakers in two vehicles (so far), all with satisfactory results. These are the nicest units I've purchased yet (haven't gone to components yet). They have great mid bass and midrange performance, albeit I'm sure they will really shine once I Dynamat my interior. They handle power well (only using the power provided by my Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS at this time) and put out plenty of volume with clean sound and no distortion. As others have mentioned, bass extension isn't exciting, but consider that bass reproduction is largely dependent upon the efficiency of your door acting as an enclosure and most vehicle doors are so full of holes that it's not possible for a speaker to perform at its peak without adding some form of sealing/insulation, in which case I'd expect the low-end performance to increase significantly. Drivers need back-pressure to move the volume of air necessary to produce significant bass output. Take a subwoofer out of its enclosure and see how weak it sounds; these are no different and a door is a lousy enclosure from the factory. Nonetheless, I have a Bazooka BTA8100 in the rear cargo area filling in for deep bass reproduction and these blend nicely with the sub. Build quality is great and installation straightforward. I also like their marine rating for long-term durability.

Pros: Power-handling capabilities Marine-ready rating and design Good value with good sound

Cons: Wish the tweeters could be positioned/adjusted

I went with the Polk due to my home theater system being Polk. I did not want to search for another brand so I had no problem choosing Polk.

Pros: Highs are good and clear, mid on my truck is not good. Maybe I don't have good insulation.

Cons: The bass is not there at all, you must push the speaker to getgood bass out of it.

The 651s's ROCK!

2004 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I added the 651s's from Polk Audio through Crutchfield to go with the 521's, and the 1000 watt amp! This was a labor of the love of music. Ford did great with the Mach system, the sound was great, but the big screw up was not letting you change the head unit without a total rewire!!! After the rewire and installation of the new amp and both sets of speakers......OH how I love driving my Stang around!! The only thing lacking is the bass. I have ordered the Bazooka 10" sub. I don't need the overpowering bass, just something to enhance the listening experience! Can't wait to get that and install it too!!

Pros: Marine rated speakers are best for your convertible! The sound is fantastic! Crisp Highs, and Mids!

Cons: Lacks the oomph of the bass, but you can get that covered with a good subwoofer!!

2001 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked these speakers because of relatively good reviews, previous satisfaction with Polk speakers purchased from Crutchfield, and they were on sale. I was initially disappointed with these speakers. They were very quiet and lacked bass when compared to the stock speakers they had replaced. I thought seriously about returning them. I know from what I have read some speakers benefit greatly from an amp. I have no plans to install an amp. I had heard that some speakers require time to "break-in" so I decided to wait awhile (and remain optimistic) before making a decision to send them back. I shifted the fader to the front to create a more even sound throughout my car. I am noticing the speakers are louder and now demonstrate a fullness when bass is present. These qualities were lacking initially.

Pros: Speakers sound great now.

Cons: Adapter wires provided by Crutchfield were not long enough. This was made known to me at the time of purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I thought the Bose speakers were very nice, and actually they were until one finally blew. These installed extremely quickly once I figured out how to mount them. I was surprised by just how clear they were next to my old speakers. The mids and highs are great, and they have a nice punchy kick to them that compliments a small sub that came with the car. You won't get extremely low bass but you'll get amazing clarity and attack. Everything I have played through them sounds twice as clear as it did to my ears. At 69.99, $35 a speaker I feel like I got an amazing deal. As always Crutchfield is a great company when you need a little support.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced all 4 stock aging door speakers with these bad boys and they work great with my old Kenwood receiver. Sound quality is typical of Polk Audio speakers, well balanced mid/hi. Also installed the Sound Ordinance powered sub under the driver seat to take care of the lows and the result? Speakers work in beautiful harmony and they don't drown each other out. Sound is amazing for what I spent on this upgrade. Clear and crisp sound with just enough punch without annoying other cars at a traffic stop. If you're in the market for speakers, consider the Polk Audio db651s but manage your expectations appropriately as they will NOT satisfy your bass craving. That's what a powered sub woofer is for.

Pros: Solid build and design like any other Polk Audio products. Clear, crisp sound

Cons: Spacers Crutchfield sent did not fit in either of the door speaker holes. Had to trim each spacer to make them fit which made my install time a lot longer

Outstanding OEM replacement. And, if you just want to improve over stock GM door panel speakers (the worst in the auto industry) these are a dramatically noticeable improvement. The price is right too.

Pros: Super easy install. Solid bass stock GM speakers don't have. Makes the GM head-unit sound 100 times better.

Cons: Holes didn't match precisely on back doors. Not really an issue with the speakers - more an issue with the replacement mounts provided.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Polk's db651 s are amazing. I bought my 2015 Jeep Wrangler and man does it ever have a terrible factory oem sound system. It does have a soft top and there was no way I would have been able to hear anything this summer. I was looking at the kicker's being from Ok, and Rockford Fosgate's since I'm a child of the 90's and thats what was cool then. Can't speak for the quality of either Kicker or Rockford Fosgate, but I can tell you I am glad I went with the Polks. I live chatted with Crutchfield and they suggested these. Super easy installation with the plug & play Metra 71-050 Speaker Wiring Adapters and Scosche SAC-656 Multipurpose Speaker Mounting Brackets. Both of which were free with my order. Added some Dynamat to the speaker pods and some polyfill. Hooked everything up and sounded better but still not great. Ended up installing an alpine KTP-445u to push the polks and now I'm happy.

Pros: Clean design and great quality. Crisp treble and good mids. Easy installation if I can do it anyone can. I suggest hooking an amp up to them to help get the watts up for a better sound.

Cons: None so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were replacement speakers from the factory set of 4. Since it is a economy car, I also purchased baffles to get the best sound possible. I would say I am moderately satisfied. Better then the factory, not as great as expected given the other reviews. Crutchfield was amazing. Shipping, instructions and such were spot on. Perhaps I'll top grade again in the future, but for now - cie la vie. Caveat Emptor.

Pros: Highs & Mid are crisp and sound great.

Cons: The bass is sub par. At any increased setting you will get distortion at least for any type of dance, techno, or BPM music.

Polk db651s in a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer w/ a Sony MX-XB100BT Head Unit

Written by: SD from South Carolina on March 30, 2016

2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bang for the buck, these are a great set of speakers. I would highly recommend them to anyone who likes clean and clear audio at a relatively inexpensive price. I installed four of these Polk db651s speakers with the Sony MEX-XB100BT head unit in my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer. This Sony head unit has a bass boost feature which essentially pushes 100 watts to each speaker (when bass boost is OFF the speakers get about 40 watts per speaker and it is a noticeable difference). I also have a pair of 12 inch subs with an amp, so between these four polk speakers and the subs I get a loud and full range of sound from the music I listen to (which is a wide variety of music - pop, rap, country, jazz, classical, etc. If you are considering 3 way or the component speakers like I did, my decision to go with these came down to the fact that these 2 way speakers had reviews that claimed great sound quality and were going to be a better value in the long run. So far those reviews have been spot on. My guess on any of the negative reviews that have been posted for this product is that those people did not provide enough wattage to these speakers. Because of the Sony head unit I have, I've heard them at both 40 and 100 watts. I can easily say you will want at least 100 watts going to each speaker. Lastly, Clarence from Crutchfield was great when I called in to make sure I wasn't missing anything and he had the same opinion on this product as many of the positive reviewers on this product

Pros: Extremely clear/crisp highs due to the hi/low filters attached to the speakers. Mid range is decent for 6.5 inch speakers when given enough watts (recommend minimum 100 watts per speaker). As many reviewers stated this is not a sub woofer so don't expect thumping. Speakers fit as Crutchfield stated they would (a car audio business did the install, said it went without a hitch). Overall the speakers are excellent value for the price but definitely recommend 100 watts per speaker at a minimum.

Cons: Two things I will comment on. 1) For good quality and relative loudness these speaker definitely require more watts than 15 to 55 watts per speaker that your typical head unit provides. 2) Some reviewers have stated that the high end frequencies are too high for them. Depending on your hearing, I could see how some people claimed this but I personally don't fall under this category and am very pleased with these speakers so far (full disclosure I have only had them for a week and a half now).

I installed our old sub woofer (from our 2007 Elantra) into our 2014 Accent to see if the added bass would breathe new life into the system. I still wasn't satisfied, so tried these Polk speakers - what a difference! The sound is much clearer and dynamic - a very noticeable improvement. Installing the speakers took longer than anticipated, as I wanted to make sure the job was done correctly. The Crutchfield team makes it easy with their instruction sheet that is very detailed and model specific. You won't be disappointed with these speakers - much improved over factory - makes driving the car fun!

Pros: Very clear and detailed sound, well built and fits perfectly.

Cons: None that I can think of.

I bought these to replace my stock Bose speakers and am glad I did. The highs are much more defined and clear and the bass response is superior. I've used Polk Audio in almost every application you can think of and am never disappointed. I'm not so much of an audiophile that I need to spend the big money on Focal, but not so naive to think I would be happy with the cheapest option out there. Polk Audio always seems to be exactly where I need to be for price and superior quality.

Pros: Price, sound quality.

Theses speakers are slim and fit as expected. I am driving th she speakers with a Pioneer DEH-8700h and I was some what disappointed. The power out from the head unit did not have enough power out to drive these speakers unless the volume was turned up past 3/4. Since the initial install I have updated my system and added a Blaupunkt 55 RMS amp and a Sound Ordinance powered sub. Now we're talking the db651s have the power to them to drive the speakers so the bass is there and sounds great

I replaced the factory speakers with these. It was a huge improvement! Music is so much cleaner. I actually hear things that previously were not produced with the factory speakers. These produce great highs and mid range. I am using the factory radio so they may produce more bass if I replaced the head unit and add an amp. I also replaced the factory 8" sub at the same time but didn't add an amp for it either.

Pros: The speakers are great! With the adapters provided by Crutchfield the front speakers went right in. Using the rear speaker adapters I had to do a little customization to make this work.

Cons: None I can think of.

These are great speakers for my rear door speakers in my 2002 Silverado HD2500 Crew Cab. I've been a fan of Polk Audio for almost 30 years. These didn't disappoint. Crutchfield also went above and beyond. While installing the first set of speakers I ran my screw gun through the cone of the speaker. When I went to purchase a 2nd set I noticed that it said it fit my truck but I needed a bracket. The first set didn't come with a bracket. I asked the CS rep on chat about it and he arranged for the replacement of my damaged speakers and sent the right bracket - NO CHARGE. They even cross shipped. I was ready to buy a new pair, told them it was my fault, but they replaced them anyway - WOW!

Pros: Sound WAY better than the stock speakers and CS was over the top

I bought these speakers to replace the speakers in my 2002 GMC Yukon and they worked perfectly. The front door install was incredibly easy and took about a half hour after I had already gathered the tools required. The back door speakers fit, however, they were much more difficult to install because the bracket included did not fit the door very well. I ended up having to screw the bracket into the door and then screwing the speakers to those with separate screws that were not intended for it.

Pros: Sounds good. Very easy install.

Cons: The back doors required more thought and effort than anticipated.

I have a 2006 Honda Civic. I bought the car a couple years ago with the front speakers already blown. Recently, the back right speaker blew out, and left me with no choice but to look into speakers. I don't know anything about cars, but I went online, talked to Ringo, and he attached a list of speakers that would fit my car and everything I needed to install. He recommended these speakers, and the results are fantastic. Super easy to install. Again, I don't know much about cars or stereos, but it was very easy. And the sound quality is excellent. I have no complaints at all. Now, my opinion might not be worth much to you, since I'd be driving around with one back speaker for some time, and had heard music in the front speakers for the first time when I installed these. But I do find the quality to be excellent. Love the product, love the easy to install

Pros: Easy install, great sound

Absolutely outstanding sound quality! I can now pick out every nuance of sound! Outstanding highs and mids with a decent midrange punch. Don't buy these if you want to rock a lot of bass out of them though ( which you should never do with 6 1/2s), that is not what their forte is. Just make sure you've got or are planning to get a sub and I promise these will not disappoint! Excellent quality for the money!

Pros: Excellent highs and mids, build quality and sound clarity

Cons: None really, except if you were wanting to crank the bass up on these. But don't do that. Not what these are built for.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I delivery of the product was very fast. The master sheet is Ok for the instructions. Back to review: PoldDB651s: Sound quality is quite better as compared to the stock speakers. But, for this to understand you don have to be an audiophile instead just by the look of the dbs you can make that out. The speakers are good for high and better for Mids but worst for Low(Bass). If you are planning to change these just for the sake of getting the stock ones out then it is OK but if the purpose is for enhanced listening experience then have some bucks extra for upcoming changes. I connected these to the HU already available so I am not sure how would they sound with the amplifier but from what I assume they wont better in the low section ever. Definitely they would go up more on Mid's and High's on high volume but who wants that on high vol? Generally speaking the Low are the ones that are expected to thumping with balanced sound. To do these do as I did: Order a subwoofer immediately before you get more frustrated with the low bass sound. I would suggest ordering a Powered subwoofer which can stay in the cabin allowing you to balance the sound properly. Specially for Civic 2006 Coupe: Firstly the rear speakers are pain in the butt. The space is extremely less. To pry the top cover in rear dont forget push the panel above reason being the clips that hold it. To get them out dont pull towards you instead apply force vertically. Finally I guess the overall quality & sound is go

Pros: Crisp High, Good Mid, balanced sound. Better built quality as compared to stock ones.

Cons: Poor performance on bass. Distortion on high vol which I assume can be removed by connecting an amp and external sub ofcourse.

Thought They Lacked Power and Punch Until...

Written by: KatGo from san francisco, CA on January 31, 2016

After replacing stock radio with Pioneer receiver, thought adding 4 new speakers to my 1999 Jeep Cherokee would give me all the power and sound I needed. But when I turned up the volume to about 30, the radio powered off like it was over-loading. Checked all the wiring then called Crutchfield and was told that I probably needed a subwoofer--that my system was under-powered. They recommended a Sound Ordinance powered subwoofer (they liked it and was popular), stating that it would meet my requirement of fitting under my passenger seat, but they were wrong. I did my own measurements and bought the Kenwood KSC-SW11 at eBay for much lower price. Fits perfectly, and there are good metal grounding locations there and holes for vents. Installation was easy, and sound was good, but receiver still powered off when I turned the volume up. Noticed it was worse on hot days, and fan/AC controls got hot to the touch. Googled this and found that my blower fan was failing and causing some high heat on the dash temp controls. Bought a new fan, and BOOM, no more radio cutting out at very high volume! Love Crutchfield, but you guys were wrong about everything, including stating that 6 1/2 speakers wouldn't fit the rear ceiling. I will say that bass was definitely lacking before adding the subwoofer. I don't listen to anything boomy, like Rap so don't need to rattle the windows, but the Kenwood will definitely vibrate all the seats and doors! Don't even want a newer SUV anymore!

Pros: Clear, clean highs and mids for voice and acoustic instruments. Very easy install that "even a girl can do". Ha.

Cons: Thin bass and mids.

Installed these in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the factory Alpine system. This upgraded system stinks! I knew I needed some aftermarket speakers. Crutchfield made the install super easy after it came within 36 hours of the order (we are pretty close to their location). Anyway, I added some polly fill to the empty sound bar and WOW, these make a heck of a improvement even still with the factory head unit and none of the other speakers touched, I am pretty satisfied with these, and will probably order another set for the dash. Props to Crutchfield for including everything I needed.

Pros: Relatively inexpensive, easy to install, marine rated, clear highs and full lows.

Cons: Mid range is just okay

Opted to go the 6.5" route after finding out that the Kicker 6x9's I ordered for my 2008 Ram didn't quite fit (the ever elusive fourth hole!). The supplied adapter plate made it a an exact and airtight fit with foam gasket material. Wasn't expecting this much improvement in every catagory! Super tight midbass punch with frightening clarity. Even when using with the factory head unit the difference is amazing. I was worried about a loss of bass but after break-in that all diminished. My bass, midrange and treble settings are all set to flat now. Worth every penny.

Pros: Build construction and clarity

Cons: Supplied hardware although stainless steel was a little cheesy. Wound up using the hardware supplied with the adapter plate to mount the speakers.

They are a good price and sound really good. The installation was difficult. The door panel came off as the instructions showed but the speaker was too large for the adapter plate. The original screw holes were covered by the speaker and needed a lot of grinding to make the access and a relief for the screw heads. A 5.25 inch speaker would have been installed with no modification. I called customer support and they explained that "they" should have explained that when I bought them. The screws supplied could not reach the adapter plate. I was surprised by the number of issues from a large supplier.

Pros: great sound and price.

Cons: Installation could have been a lot easier. Supplied adapter plate screws were too short to reach the sheet metal nuts.

I purchased these speakers as direct replacements for my wife's car, Subaru Baja sport. They are shockingly good. The sensitivity allows the stock head to preform very well. One could lose hearing in this car now, with stock speakers you had to run level 8 to hear them level 4 starts to become uncomfortable now. They are very clean sounding good mid-range and highs. The lows are much better than expected. The separation of sound is very good for this type of speaker. I really cannot say enough about them. Just a few years ago you would have to spend $500 to $800 for this kind of sound. Add the marine rating and you have real winners!

Replaced front door speakers with these Polk db651s. I've been a Polk customer and owner since 1983. There's a reason for that. Polk makes a good product. When I buy something for a fair price and it does what I expect it to do, I'm happy. These Polks were fairly priced and produce a good sound. I'm happy with them.

Pros: Quality speakers which produce a good sound for a fair price

Cons: Had to cut the plastic pins in the door mount to get speakers to fit. This does not affect the security of the speakers' mounting. The Metra 72-9300 wiring harness is not an exact match to the car's harness plug. It mates, but the plastic tab on the car's plug has nothing on the Metra plug into which it can lock. Friction keeps the plugs mated, but I taped around them with electrical tape just to be sure. Also, harness is too short if car plug kept connected to door. Not a problem, though.

These Polk Audio speakers sound very good, a serious upgrade over stock speakers. Some say the bass is not very good and others say it's great; which is correct. They both are. A 6.5" speaker physically can't produce bone rattling base, I don't care who makes it. These speakers produce a tight well defined mid-base, which is what they are designed to do. I plan to add a sub-woofer later. However, these Polk Audios do a good job of producing clean, well defined audio. The highs are crisp without being harsh, the mid and mid-bass are very good.

These speakers were given to me as a Christmas gift by my daughter. I am a frequent visitor and buyer of Crutchfield products and would like to give you guys and gals kudos. This was an excellent fit and the brackets and wire harness made the install smooth. The only problem I had was I didn't receive the MasterSheet. Since I had never done this before, there was a slight learning curve. My buddy and I figured it and in the end all is well. Speakers sound great and I am happy. Well done Crutchfield. One favor, can u send me the MasterSheet just so I can have a copy. Thank You again.

Pros: Excellent fit, right hardware, great sound

Cons: none

Instructions and using installation kit were perfect. Ironically the speakers that came out were cheap 6x9 with a special frame. The kit provided with the spears matched to the car. Very simple install. Speakers sound great to partcularly driven by factory unit.

Pros: Clear sounding speakers, wiring harness adapter worked well, and kit fit great. Install time for both doors about 60-90 minutes

Cons: None.

Jeep Liberty Install

2002 Jeep Liberty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had my driver side door speaker go out and bought these to replace both front door speakers. My Liberty has the OEM Infinity stereo, I have always liked the way it sounded, good deep base. With the install of these, no more base. I bought them for the 50hz low rating vs. others at 70hz and above. If you have a sub, there is probably not a problem, they sound good and clean, the base they have is tight and you can turn them up without any signs of sloppy sound, they stay clean. Just not the deep base I was hoping to keep. Buy the MB-Quart ZK1-116 (20-20,000hz) rating.

Pros: Good clean sound even at elevated volumes.

Cons: No base below ~80hz

Speaker good, mounting bracket is Bad

2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed into a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: The speakers are good, just be sure to make sure the little capacitors that are on the back side of the speakers are not loose, they come loose pretty easy. So what I did was used a little silicone caulk to hold them in place, I would suggest doing this even if they are not loose. Also the mounting brackets Crutchfield sends for free are terrible. They work ok for the front but not for the rear sound bar. The best thing to use for the rear sound bar is the metal bracket that the factory speaker is actually made of. What you do is cut the biggest part of the metal ring of the speaker away from the speaker (this destroys the factory speaker but you end up with a solid metal ring you can screw the new speaker to. This makes for a solid mount.

Pros: Speaker sounds good!

Cons: Mounting brackets from Crutchfield are flimsy and crack easily.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to install in a 2000 Tacoma access cab after listening to the DB651 speakers at best buy. I had to buy slim speakers due to the limited space so options were very limited. I knew i would lose some bass compared to the not-slim version of the speaker, but didnt realize it would be such a difference. Overall though i am satisfied with the purchase. The clarity is great on these, just lacking some bump in the low range.

Pros: great clarity for mids and highs slim fit

Cons: lack of bass

2008 Dodge Nitro
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound clear! After some modification to factory "fill plate" in place of tweeters these fit perfectly in my Nitro. Plenty of excess wire and installation options. I think if I had to do it over again I would chose a different tweeter given my vehicle, by no means is it the tweeter itself. I just believe these are better suited for a vehicle with tweeters being placed in a deeper dash location compared to the lack of depth I have in given the Jeep windshield so close to the driver, or shallow dashboard. I was able to adjust to sound decent with Polk db641s.

Pros: Sound clear and easy install

Cons: None

Really happy with the sound from these speakers. They seem well built to endure the abuse a car speaker will have to encounter. It's amazing the sound quality you can get for your dollar these days. I feel these speakers were a very good value for the money I spent. I put these speaker in my doors before upgrading my rear deck speakers, and the sound improvement was remarkable.

You have everything you will need; well built speakers guaranteed to fit your vehicle, instructions (with pictures) that are easy to understand and connectors that fit so you don't have to cut or change your vehicle's wiring. The sound from such small speakers is incredible. The Polk Audio db651s front speakers separate instruments and vocals so everything is so crisp.

Pros: Quality speakers that put OEMs to shame; the sound is amazing. Easy to install and everything fits. You can also call and talk to an actual human being.

Cons: NONE

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced 4 factory speakers in my 2013 Honda Accord, which were OK, just not very good. I was looking for a little clearer highs, and some added depth. I had no illusions that I would be creating a "thumping" system - for that I will need a powered Subwoofer. These coaxial Polks gave me exactly what I expected in terms of a quality speaker system - a nicely rounded out sound experience. Since my son was helping me install these speakers, it wasn't hard at all :-)

Pros: Nice, crisp sound. Great price.

Cons: The included installation instructions fall a bit short. I reccomend using You Tube to research your install.

2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers sound clean and clear. The efficiency is much better than the factory speakers that were replaced. My install was an 07 Trailblazer. The website said fits with adapter. That was an understatement. When I did a test fit of the adapter and speaker into the housing on the car door, I knew there would be cutting. I called Crutchfield to confirm my thoughts and the tech service said, yes, it looks like a tight fit. I proceeded with lots of cutting and some drilling until I got the speakers installed. I did not expect to spend several hours doing the install, as the website stated fits with adapter. I have had much easier installs on other cars I have owned.

Pros: Speakers sound great and are very efficient.

Cons: Fit with my vehicle was difficult.

2004 Honda Element
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were perfect to replace the stock speakers in the doors. 2 sets of these, one for the front doors and one for the rear allowed a simple install with no modifications required. I coupled it with the Kenwood Excelon DPX791BH and even with the stock amps and the typical road noise issues with the Element, these are amazing and all I need. The installation has my son saying, "Wow, these speakers sound really good, Dad." - I think he is angling for the car in a year or two....

Pros: Perfect fit. Largest speakers I could find for my Honda Element without cutting into anything.

Cons: None.

Purchased these speakers for my Toyota Tundra 2002. Matched them to a Clarion Cx 501. I was frankly disappointed about the difference or lack thereof from my 20 watt original speakers by Toyota. I'm not sure why that is since I was advised to purchase exactly these speakers with the particular Clarion head unit I already had installed. The improvement with the head unit from the previous head unit was significant with the factory speakers. I was simply hoping for an even better improvement using the Polk speakers. I actually replaced all four. I wish I could give these speakers a better rating.

I installed 4 of these in a Corolla 4 years ago and they are still going strong. Those are a ken wood head unit and a 4x40 ken wood amp. They are paired with a Bazooka tube and two 3 1/2" Polk tweeters. The speakers are so good I just purchased 4 more for my Tacoma.

Pros: They are great when paired with some tweeters and a Bazooka tube. They sound very crisp, and clear. You hear so much more than the factory speakers. As usual Crutchfield answered all my questions and supplied all the instructions and hardware. I have been buying from them since the late 70's and see no reason to shop anywhere else.

I replaced the factory 6x9's in my Chrysler 200 and they sound great. Installation was a breeze with the adaptor plates that came with the Polk speakers. 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polk Audio db651s speakers sound great, look like they are built to last, and were easy to install in my 2003 Chevy Silverado. The door-ajar chime also now works! The enclosed door panel removal instructions were helpful, and there are also several "You Tube" videos available that provide similar information in a more visual format. The GM compatible wiring harnesses proved to be very helpful, since no cutting, splicing or soldering was required. The Metra 82-3002 mounting brackets were also very helpful, since no drilling of the door panels was required. However, the Metra instructions only referenced 1995-1999 Chevrolet and GMC pick-up trucks, which caused me to confirm with Crutchfield that I received the correct speaker mounting brackets. Also, the instructions for the speaker mounting brackets have a diagram on the front page which shows two speaker mounting brackets which mirror each other (i.e. a left and a right). However, my sealed package from Metra included two speaker brackets which were exactly the same (i.e. two lefts, or two rights). If the two speaker mounting brackets had been mirror-image, no alterations would have been required. For this installation, to flush mount the speaker mounting bracket on the driver-side door, the removal of one large plastic tab from the right side of one bracket was required. The safest way, to avoid breaking the bracket, was to carefully cut off the plastic tab with a coping saw.

Pros: The Polk Audio db651s speakers sound great, look like they are built to last, and were easy to install in my 2003 Chevy Silverado.

Cons: The Metra 82-3002 speaker mounting brackets should include two brackets that mirror each other (i.e. one designed for the driver-side door, and one designed for the passenger-side door).
