The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience. Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain. Polk's db651s shallow-mount speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that stand up to heat and moisture. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction. With a 2" mounting depth, these speakers can fit into some tight places. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio. These speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware and muscular ABS grilles that will add a stylish touch to your car's interior. Features Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion. Woofer Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance polymer/mica composite mineral-filled cone. The cones are stiff and lightweight for big sound and low distortion. Butyl Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use butyl rubber surrounds. Kapton Voice Coil Former: The low-mass Kapton Voice Coil former is lightweight for high sound output. Kapton's high melting temperature (725°F) ensures high power handling and longer reliability. Silk/Polymer Composite Tweeters: The 3/4" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite tweeters provide clear, detailed highs. The tweeters use neodymium magnets. 2-way Crossover Network: The built-in 2-way crossover network sends the appropriate frequencies to each driver for cleaner sound and better imaging. Grilles: Strong ABS plastic grilles are included. These computer optimized grilles are based on exclusive MOMO designs. Product reviews from the Crutchfield Labs (what are the Labs?) By far the best overall speaker for the money!! Pros: Efficiency with internal crossover. Cons: Nothing. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Polk Speakers Written By Don, Tonopah, NV on Monday, September 08, 2014 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) The speakers sound great. Contrary to other reviews, there is more than enough bass to satisfy most people. I suspect the people who are criticizing these speakers for lack of bass probably walk around with subwoofers wired to their ears. My only criticism of these speakers is the poor mounting design. Polk's engineers missed the boat on this one! They use four small machined screws to mount the speakers to your brackets. The tiny screw head fit into a C-shaped cut out rather than a hole or oval. Once you tighten them, you better hope they don't slip off the C slot or you have to remount them. Since these are mounted in a truck that will see bumpy desert roads, I'm not impressed with their ability to stand up over time. I had to go to the hardware store and spend $5 on longer screws and tiny washers just to make sure they stay mounted to the brackets. Then I trimmed off the excess screw shank with a Dremel cutoff wheel. If you can live with this, they're great speakers with decent sound. Pros: Speakers sound great. Cons: Factory mounting setup is pure garbage. You'll need longer screws of the same type and thin washers to keep the screw heads from slipping out of the cheesy C-shaped mounting "holes". 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Fit with no alteration Written By JustinG, Tennesee on Wednesday, September 03, 2014 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) So far I am pleased with my purchase. They were on sale so I feel that I got a good deal. I bought two pair to install in the doors of a ram quad cab. The magnet on these was bigger than the magnet on the stock 6x9's that came out of the front door, but smaller than the 6.5's that were in the rear doors. I am pleased with the sound. It is brighter an clearer than the stock speakers. They seem louder than the stock speakers. But I seem to get some harsh mids when really cranking the Alpine head unit. Another reviewer complained that these had no bass. They don't and you should not expect them to. I have some 10" polk subs that take care of the bass. One thing I did not like was the way the screw holes were built into the speaker. When tightening the screws it caused to surround to deform. I was not clamping down as tight as I would like. Install was a snap -- my 9-year old was able to get the stock speakers out and screwed the front door speaker in. You can see the gunmetal bronze cones behind the stock speaker grill, they look great. Thanks for the adaptor plates and plugs! That is why I tell my friends to buy from Crutchfield. I was able to get most of the speaker holes to line up with stock mounting holes. I only had to drill one out. Pros: Fits well, cool look. Bright clean highs. Free installation accessories from Crutchfield. Cons: Harsh when cranked up. When secured tightly with the screws provided the surround deformed. Was this review helpful? Put these in a honda hybrid hooked to a older Kenwood receiver with a 22 rms rating for a neighbor of mine. After about a two week break in period at medium volume, I went back and tuned up her sound and man was I shocked how Crystal clear her music sounded. Installation was a breeze with the wire harnesses and bracket mounts that Crutchfield supplied. She was so excited and can't wait to get a subwoofer to fill out the sound. Sound great with Kenwood Excelon KDC-X598 Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Polk Audio DB651s Written By c_stone, Axton, Virginia on Sunday, August 10, 2014 Bought these for my daily driver, (80 mile commute to work every day) a 1992 Honda Civic Hatch. Didn't want to put a whole lot of money in it but I wanted decent sound quality. The previous owner had installed Polk's in the rear, so I read reviews on these and I'm extremely pleased! They don't break the bank but I could hear things more clearly, and also some different notes that the old stock speakers couldn't produce. Currently just running off head unit power, but I am curious to see how they do with a decent Amp! Pros: Crisp sound. Best bang for your buck. Easy to read and follow Instructions (proper english and grammar) Not cheaply made, quality materials. Cons: None. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Polk Audio db651s in the front door of a 1997 Honda CR-V Written By David, Lafayette, CO on Saturday, August 09, 2014 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Installing these speakers in the front doors of my 1997 Honda CR-V was a breeze - took about 10 minutes total with the free wiring adapters. The two main improvements over my 17-year-old(!) factory speakers are: 1) the efficiency - the music is much louder on a given volume setting than before, and 2) no more distortion at any volume level. I can't speak to the bass level as I have previously installed a Kenwood powered subwoofer, but overall the highs and mids sound really good out of these speakers. I am very pleased with the improvements over my stock speakers and recommend these as a great low-profile speaker that will give you rich, full sound. Pros: Great, balanced sound, easy to install (in a Honda CR-V). Cons: None Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 1998 GMC Sierra Written By Matt, Illinois on Monday, August 04, 2014 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Replaced my alpine components with these. Sound is just as good, at a smaller price tag. nice highs and mids, decent lows, complement my 8" bazooka tube nicely. Install was simple after a quick call to Crutchfield about mounting bracket. Cut off everything but the three supports where you screw it into the door. Have an alpine head unit and my next purchase will be the plug and play amp. That should really bring my sound system alive. I will only ever purchase from Crutchfield. Pros: Price, sound Cons: Mounting bracket should have better instructions. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Fits Dodge Stealth Written By John M., Waterford NY on Saturday, August 02, 2014 Love these speakers! Fit guide said these were a no go. I was not crazy about the speakers that it came up with so I called customer support. Spoke to Dallas and told him what I wanted and my dilemma. He pulled up all the specs for my car and recommended these. Very minor modification and used the included speaker adapter. All I did was cut the plastic "wagon wheel" from the inside of the factory speaker grille and perfect! Also you can now see the nice gold Polk speaker thru the grille. Nice! Always the BEST customer service at Crutchfield! I really love this car and Crutchfield helped me get it to the next level! Thanks!! Pros: POLK quality and construction! They sound amazing! GREAT value!! Cons: The grilles are too obtrusive. A different option would have been nice but these weren't used anyway. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Love these Written By Matt, Ohio on Thursday, July 31, 2014 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I got these for my 09 civic. Good highs and mids, not much bass but that's not what they are for. Powering them with a Kenwood DDX371 no amp and they sound great. Pros: Crisp highs and good mids. Cons: No bass but what do you expect from a 6.5 speaker. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 3 out of 5 Polk DB 651s Written By Joe, Allentown on Saturday, July 26, 2014 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) An upgrade from my factory cardboard speakers but not by much. I replaced my brand new 2014 Elantra factory speakers. The Polk speakers are a little cleaner and sharper sounding but don't buy these for the base because you will not be getting any. Pros: Slightly better than factory Cons: Not a speaker for base.
