Exacting standards — precise engineering where it counts
The DXi 124 12" sub features a stiff polypropylene cone and sturdy large roll butyl rubber surround, so you can ride the bass wave for years to come. Engineers at Polk analyze drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise, so you'll get impressive thump with minimal distortion. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances.

Pair this sub with the right amp and wiring, then strap yourself in for a serious low-frequency ride.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

I have absolutely no body of knowledge with which to compare this, but I am pleased with the sub. It sounds good with my existing system, but I am not exactly pushing the bleeding edge of the speakers operation. In the sense that I don't care what my music sounds like in someone else's car, it works with my mixed, entry-level system. YMMV.

Pros: It goes "BOOM-thumpa-BOOM-boom-BOOM"

Cons: It doesn't go "BZZT-crackle-fssssssh-bzzt-BZZT"

Alright for the money

They sound alright for the money. I have it hooked up to a 360RMS monoblock in a sealed box, but are pretty loud and provide a lot of boom in your car. However, as an audiophile, this sub is nowhere near being tight or accurate. Having the crossover set 80hz with 35% volume, it will sound pretty nice in the front, but it will be a huge bass mess in the back seat in my toyota 06 avalon. Making the sub pointing towards the car made it a little better, but I feel like the bass is still coming from the back and not part of the music spectrum.

nothing can beat this subwoofer. Its the best purchase that I have ever made in the audio world. If you want AMAZING bass AND sound quality then get these. If you buy this, you will very much be satisfied. and dont think that you have to run it at the max power. I have a 840 watt pioneer running two of these just fine in the trunk of my grand prix

Pros: two speaker terminals, high quality materials, AMAZING sound, no distortion, nothing but pure, crisp, clean music.

Cons: nothing! you cant go wrong with buying this sub! buy it!

Nice subwoofer and great buy!

Just installed two 12" Dxi 4ohm SVC in ported enclosures in my son's 2001 Yukon, wired in parallel at 2 ohms. Great build quality, sound quality, and they look bad arse! Oh, my son says "they hit hard". Just hope the Yukon hold together. Great customer service as well.

Pros: Great build quality, sound quality, look cool

Cons: Non, could not be happier with the pruchase

Polk Audio DXi 124

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a lot of research comparing prices, rms power, sensitivity, and airspace I finally decided on this Polk subwoofer. I already had an Alpine MRP-M500 amplifier that I wanted to use and a single subwoofer box for a 12" sub that was about .75 cu. ft. of airspace. I also installed it in a small hatchback car where I use my hatch area, so I did not want to loose very much of it. I have been very pleased with this sub. It has a nice solid thump to it. I listen to a variety of music, from Slipknot and Ice Cube to Adele and I think this sub has performed well through all of it.

Enclosure Compatibility

Poly Cone: The DXi series subs use a durable polymer composite cone. The cone is both lightweight and rigid, and will withstand the harsh automobile environment.

Butyl Rubber Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to extremes in temperature, humidity, and exposure to sunlight for excellent long term reliability.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Break-In Period: Subwoofers will achieve optimal performance once they are thoroughly broken-in. To break in a new DXi sub play music through it for 20 to 30 hours at moderate levels.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: Polk recommends mounting this woofer in a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.88 cubic feet.

Ported Box Volume: Polk recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.5 cubic feet using a 4" diameter x 10" long port.

Bandpass Box Volume: Polk recommends a bandpass enclosure with a 1.0 cubic foot sealed rear chamber and a 1.15 cubic foot ported front chamber with 4" diameter x 12" long port.
