Precision woofers showcase your music
The DXi460p 4"x6" plate speakers feature 4" polymer/mica composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances.

Silk/polymer dome tweeters broadcast sweet sound
Rest assured, you'll hear every detail of your most enthralling musical moments. Each 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeter brings out the high-frequency highlights in your music, and a proprietary magnetic liquid cools each tweeter so you'll get clear sound and excellent long-term performance.

The tweeter and woofer are mounted separately on the plate, so you'll enjoy the superior sound of separate components without having to modify your car. From an intensely quiet acoustic pluck to the most exhilarating electric solo, it'll be a very entertaining ride.

Polk Audio DXi460p Speakers

1993 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Application: '93 Jeep Wrangler dash speakers. Bought a set of the 460's (4" x6") to replace the substandard OEM's and loved the result so much I bought a second pair for the rear. The rear speakers are mounted in ported speaker boxes I made so they can be set outside the jeep when parked. Truly live the quality and sound produced. Install was simple and exactly as directed by the included instruction sheet that came with the speakers. Would highly recommend these to all Jeepers wanting an extremely economical upgrade to OEM dash speakers!!

Pros: Simple install on passenger side, a tad more work involved on drivers side. Great sound all around.

Cons: Not really a "con" but I recommend adding an (minimum 50 wpc rms) amp to these to get the full benefit the speakers offer.

I installed these speakers with the baffles. The sound is about what you would expect from a 4X6 speaker. As usual, Crutchfield supplied the harness which made the install simple.

Pros: Great value, really good to great sound for a 4X6. Crutchfield install instructions and harness.

Cons: NONE.

Replaced the 4X6 oval speakers in the dash of my 2000 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) with a pair of these. Sound quality is very good. No bass but I didn't expect much out of a 4" speaker. Crisp and clear sound. Easy install with the kit supplied by Crutchfield. Polk is a high quality speaker and the price was fantastic. I replaced the soundbar speakers with the Polk 5.25" 2 way speaks.

Pros: Great quality, good sound, easy install.

Cons: None

Absolutely great speakers

Written by: 1994 Chevy 1500 from Nutwood, Il on March 25, 2014

Fantastic speakers. Installed 4 in my chevy cheyenne with a Polk head unit and 2 kenwood 1600 watt subs behind the seat. The speakers have almost no bass, but the subs account for the bass that is missing. These speakers hit the high notes amazingly. Did I mention that they are LOUD? For 4 inch speakers these things are way louder than most 6 by 9 inch speakers. The sound quality is amazing and they have never distorted on me. I had to modify the speaker holes to make them fit, but it was well worth it. Huge upgrade over stock speakers and I would recommend these to everyone. I would also recommend buying a sub if you want to have any bass. BUY THESE.

Pros: Amazing clarity and sound quality. HUGE upgrade over stock speakers

Cons: Had to modify holes to make speakers fit. Not very much bass.

Replacement for factory YJ speakers. Speakers fit well in stock bolts. Great improvement in factory speakers. I would purchase again.

Pros: Improved sound quality. Bolt for bolt install. Hold up well in open air vehicle.

Cons: Speaker cone sits a little close to factory speaker cover. Does not interfere with sound quality however.

These speakers don't actually fit without modification of the cab chassis (used air powered saw to make hole larger ) but the sound advantage was worth the aggravation. Also the plastic panels on my 1995 GMC are very brittle thus very difficult to remove without breaking clip tabs.

Pros: sound

Cons: extra labor - not a direct replacement.

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to replace an old set of Pioneer 4x6 in the rear of my '03 Silverado extended cab. These speakers sound great! I have them paired with the DXi 6501 component 6.5 and I've never heard better sound inside of a vehicle! I tested these speakers without the components hooked up and they immediately brought the concert feel to my truck. They are not too heavy on the bass but the mids and highs are very crisp. This is ok because I have an Alpine Type-S 12. The instruments sound as if they are really there being played inside of the vehicle. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a replacement 6x4.

Pros: Very good price One of the best 4x6 on the market Crisp lows and highs

Cons: Little bass (you can't expect much from a 4x6 especially when its just mounted in the factory spot)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked up these speakers for my 95 Wrangler, and they are really awesome speakers! They are great for these Jeeps because the plate speaker design allows for them to be mounted flat against the dash. I did have to use a Dremmel tool on the mounting holes to fit the mounting studs, but that is common on a Jeep! The speaker plug adaptors fit perfect and are perfect to solder to the speakers, and plug in like a factory speaker!

Pros: Amazing sound, VERY clear!

Cons: On my Jeep, I did have too Dremmel out a fair bit to get them to fit the mounting studs, but that blame is placed on Jeep... not Polk's speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got the sony dsx s21ox receiver with the Polk audio dxi460p plate speakers up front and Polk audio dxi525 coaxial speakers in the sound bar. Install went easy all the way around. I had an old ken wood amp laying around ( 25 rms ) that brought the speakers to life. After playing with the frequency a bit the sound really opened up. I do plan on adding a sub to round out the sound. If you have a jeep a powered sub and a amp for your other speakers will make a world of difference .

Pros: Sounds good, Polk audio is marine grade

Cons: Be realistic with your budget. If you have a jeep, you will need to add power to the speakers and add a sub

Great speakers, Great price.

Pros: Look great. Great highs. Great mids. Crutchfield's free wire adapters made installation even easier.

Cons: No bass.

Pros: Great sound for the buck they sound like $100.00 speakers.

Cons: First pair I purchased the magnets fell off the back of the speakers but good news is I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else so I had no issue with purchasing a second pair.

I bought them with the same kind of Polk speakers for the roll bar and they are just as good! I recommend them for anyone! You can feel some base but they don't vibrate anything so a sub wouldn't be a bad idea but they still sound amazing!

Pros: Great sound Very clear Plenty of sound without much power

I have these in my truck (2002 Silverado HD) combined with a 900 watt amp, discreet channels for each one. They have no problem handling the power and they rock!!! I now have a set in each of my three cars. Often I hear them over the Infinity Reference Components in the front. Great punch, clear highs for such a small speaker. Would recommend to anyone. Especially if you put an amp on them.

Pros: Fit easily in the back doors in place of stock. Excellent punch and clear highs. Put some power on them and they will rock your world.

These little speakers sound very good. They will not disappoint the discerning classical, jazz listener. They seem to have a very flat response curve through the mid and high region, of course I don't expect a lot of bass from a 4" driver and you shouldn't either, if you like lots of bass or loud R&R, cross these speakers over at around 200hz and let the other hopefully larger speakers in your vehicle handle the low bass, or add a subwoofer.

Pros: Nice smooth sound

Cons: none so far

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These have the most clearly defined sound of any speaker I ever listened to - even better than my son's Bose speakers. I bought some Pioneers about seven months ago because the specs said they had lower bass response than the Polks. Yeah, they went lower, but the punch just wasn't there and the Pioneers were kind of muddy sounding. After six months they didn't sound all that good at all, so I got the Polks to go with the Polk speakers I already had in my 2000 Wrangler sound bar. I never heard sound so good, and unlike Texas2070 who said NOOOO, I find they have excellent bass, strong and clear. We all have our preferences, but I will never buy anything but Polk Audio from now on. The stereo imaging is fantastic. I feel like I'm in a concert hall when I'm in the Jeep.

Pros: See above....

Cons: Too bad I couldn't give them six stars.

Purchased these as replacements for the rear speakers in my pickup. Installed the speakers prior to installing my new Pioneer DEH-80 PRS stereo head unit. The speakers even made my old factory stereo unit sound so good I almost thought about not replacing the factory stereo. Now that I have the new Pioneer unit installed the sound is great!!

Pros: Great sound !! The adapters Crutchfield supplied connected right to my factory wiring, no cutting of the wires!!

Cons: Only Cons I have is according to the listings the speakers were suppose to fit my pickup (rear speaker location) They would not quite fit and I did have to trim some metal to make them fit. No big deal just wasn't expecting to have to do this. The sound makes it worth the trouble!

Great sounding speakers at a reasonable price. Crutchfield team couldn't confirm that they were marine certified, I had to go to Polk to get that information. The holes on the plate didn't match up the mounting screws in my Jeep YJ. Had to drill a few of them out in order to mount as well as getting some flat washers to space the speaker to keep the cone from being pressed against the dash.

Pros: Great sound for a 4x6 speaker. Marine certified.

1500 Character limit... Y U NO LIKE ME!?!?!?!?!

Written by: JP from Geronimo, OK on April 13, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these along with the same series 5.25 2-way for the soundbar along with 2 10's also Polk DXi. These replaced the factory 4x6 in the dash. The rear were Sony Xplod same size/setup, but didn't much like them, so out they were going as well. My deck currently is a Sony Xplod CD headunit. For the most part, I've never been an Xplod series fan, just didn't sound that great to me... so I wait a little on the new Alpines to come out.

Needless to say, I'm extremely pleased with these being in the dash(if you want to call it that on a TJ). I did try and get a mental of the sound prior to taking out the factory. Also, I used the XTC foam baffles as well. The overall quality of sound improved ten fold even with a cheap little deck powering them(which will be amped once I get the Alpine) I'm pretty sure I'll be able to edit this and will post a video of the re-install once I get the deck/sub box/amps in. I only spent $230 on these, the rear speakers and 2 10's, all Polk DXi. Which is good since I don't have much money to drop on things I want all the time. I'll edit this and post what I think of them amplified as well as attach a video of that install as I stated up top. JP

Pros: It's Polk, Marine certified and so far, pleased with what I've bought. I know they'll sound better on an amp.

Cons: The only issue that I had at first was figuring out the best way to install the XTC baffles. WIth the rear soundbar, it's pretty much cut and dry on it... cut it to size(don't forget a small hole to run your wires in, some people say to use something like a port/vent hole to let the woofer of the speaker move as it needs, but I'll have it crossed over so bass shouldn't be in these little things), line up the holes and go to town with the screwing, enjoy. The solution will be on a video soon.

These DXi460p's looked small but the speakers they replaced were not much bigger and the sound was much much better. It was worth the money to do it. Install was easy. With the door trim panel removal tool the door came apart easily. The old speakers unclipped and fell right out. Had to drill 4 small holes for these plates and it was done. Good sound for my 95 Jeep YJ... however lacking a bit in the bass (but it's only a two way speaker). Install was a pain.... Had to drill holes in the mount to align with the four posts on the dash. Driver side installation was the worst (bad design by Jeep - had to remove E brake from firewall) but afterwards, the sound was crisp. Worth the effort to upgrade the factory speakers.

Much needed upgrade. These DXi460p speakers along with a pair of DXi460 in the dash of my 93 silverado are just what I needed.Wow,what a difference from the stock speakers.Very crisp clear sound. These things really pop.If your expecting a lot of bass you may be disappointed. You are limited to your options when your replacing 4x6 stock speakers unless you want to do your own modifying for some larger ones or add a sub .I powered them with a Sony MEX-BT3000P,great combo.

Pros: It' all good

Cons: The installation of the rear plate speakers required some modification. The holes needed to be enlarged by about a 1/2'' all around and removing all of the rear interior plastic panels was quite an undertaking but everything turned out fine.

2005 Pontiac Grand Am
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, a great product. These speakers do what they advertise to do. They deliver big sound without distortion as long as you stay within the guidlines of RMS wattage. Forget the peak wattage on these speakers as they have a high tendency to distort below 1,200 Hz. If you set a crossover near this frequency, clipping of sound dissappears and overall sound quality is impressive across the entire decible range for all frequencies higher than 1,200 Hz.

Pros: GREAT sound from such a tiny speaker! Easy to manage with an onboard limiter to protect tweeter. Mounting plate is slightly flexible and allows for a small flex factor when istalling on irregular sheet metal in doors.

Cons: Exterior crossover is almost required to prevent low frequencies from reaching speaker. If not, the sound gets distorted.

Great speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They were great! Came in the mail super quick and were pretty easy to install into my '95 Jeep Wrangler. Couldn't have asked for a better pair. The sound quality is great, really forceful, not that much bass, but I've got a sound bar to help with that. Overall love the product!

Pros: affordable, easy to install, great sound

1993 GMC Sierra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

great speakers so far. very clear and crisp sound. they matched to the front which are the dxi460. These was put in a 93 gmc sierra. The fronts fit fine. For the 460p's in the back tho i had to do some modification in order to make these fit. overall not bad.

great speaker

Pros: great sound speaker for dash, had to modify right side for S10, no big deal. Crutchfield needs to add that to install instructions.

Cons: None

If clear, quality sound is what your looking for then look no farther! These speakers really shine when it comes to highs and mids The only fault with these speakers is bass is almost non-existent, but then again you can't really expect much from a 4" woofer. If you read the specs on these you'll see that the low frequencies this speaker produces starts at 71 Hz so they weren't even designed to play most lower frequencies. However I have two JL 12s in the cab of the truck so it all together sounds awesome! And like I brought out in the beginning they are amazingly defined. Probably the best highs and mids I've heard a speaker reproduce! They're nice and loud too. So If you've already got the bass and just need highs and mids then I'd say get em definitely!

Product Research

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each Polk DXi460p speaker features a Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Tweeters: Each Polk DXi460p speaker features a separate 3/4" silk dome tweeter for clearer, more accurate highs.

Mounting: The speakers can be mounted in a standard 4x6 or metric 4x6 opening.
