Precision woofers showcase your music
The DXi 500 5" speakers feature 4" polymer/mica composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances.

Polk Audio DXi 500 Honda Goldwing 1800 (DB501 also)

Written by: Dave from Spencer, Mass on June 11, 2012

These are ALMOST a direct replacement for the oem speakers in an 01-05 Honda Goldwing and for (i believe) the rears on the 06-10 models. You just have to snip the corners of the mounting holes and use some washers and the drop right in. The sound is 100% better than the junk oems or some other speakers that are supposedly designed for this bike. You obviously are not going to vibrate windows with a 5" speaker or on a bike either...BUT these are very crisp sounding with excellent sound quality and they are effecient as well. A plus is they are marine rated as well...which is more than you can say for the cheap paper oem ones. This model is (IMHO) the new version of the DB501 which appears to be identical. WELL wworth the $.

1994 Toyota Pickup
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Polk Audio has a great product and they understand the concept of sound. These were a perfect fit in my 1994 Toyota SR5 Extracab. I took out the old speakers in the extracab and simply put these in. They fit great, and the sounds is exactly what I have come to expect from Polk Audio.

Not quite a perfect fit, but...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I blew out the front door speakers of my ancient Corolla Wagon(1995). Crutchfield to the rescue! According to the website and my advisor the 5" Polks would be a slam dunk to install. Not exactly, but close. Instructions were spot on, but upon removal of the old speakers it was clear the screw holes were tantalizingly close but could not be used. That is until I called Daniel at Crutchfield. We went through a few scenarios, but no way I could drill new holes without hitting the old ones. So Daniel hit up his colleague Darren(?) who suggested I pull the speakers out a bit and get the screws to engage at an angle. Then I went around the speaker and turned each screw a few turns at a time until they were flush with the door panel. So they are in the care and sound great. Of course a 5" inch speaker isn't gonna shake the car, but very smooth and balanced sound. I bought a pair for the rear as well, but as my factory speakers were still okay, will hold on to them until I need them. TBH, the Polk fronts with the factory rears sound pretty darn good. I mostly play my iPhone through the cassette player, talk about old school.

Pros: They fit and sound pretty darn good. Crutchfield tech support really saved the day. The adapter for the wiring was perfect too!

Cons: Not without a little extra work, but no drilling.

Product Research

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design so less amplifier power is needed for more audio output, meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move in exactly the same distance and manner in both directions of travel. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each Polk DXi500 speaker features a Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients and finer detail.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses butyl rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Tweeters: Each Polk DXi500 speaker features a 3/4" silk dome tweeter for clearer, more accurate highs. Each tweeter employs a light-weight neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.

2-way Crossover Network: The built-in 2-way crossover network sends the appropriate frequencies to each driver for cleaner sound and better imaging.

Mounting: The Polk Audio DXi500 speakers fit in a standard 5" application (approximately 4" opening) with four mounting holes.
