Precision woofers showcase your music
The DXi 5250 component speaker system features 5-1/4" woofers with polymer/mica composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances.

Silk/polymer dome tweeters broadcast sweet sound
Rest assured, you'll hear every detail of your most enthralling musical moments. Each 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter brings out the high-frequency highlights in your music, and a proprietary magnetic liquid cools each tweeter so you'll get clear sound and excellent long-term performance. You can set your own stage — surface- or flush-mount the tweeters with the included swivel-mount cups, and aim the tweeters towards your ears so you can really enjoy the show.

External crossovers for stand-out detail
Polk includes high-quality crossover networks that create a smooth transition between woofer and tweeter, so you'll hear accurate, balanced performance from this system. You can adjust the tweeter level for the most natural sound in your vehicle. From an intensely quiet acoustic pluck to the most exhilarating electric solo, it'll be a very entertaining ride.

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Maybe I just set my expectations too high. Very low hitting base, but the tweeter hits sharp. Would have rather just sent the money on non-components.

Very Good Speakers

2008 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the head unit in my 2008 Nissan Frontier with a new JVC unit from Crutchfield. It was too much for the stock speakers, which had all the frequency response of a garbage can, so I ordered these Polk component speakers. HUGE improvement! These Polk speakers sound infinitely better, with sharp, clear highs and a lot of kick to the lower end. A few notes: - Installation in my Frontier took a lot of thought and some trial-and-error. I'd thought that the new tweeters would be an easy connection to existing brackets and wiring, but that was not the case. Eventually, I just mounted the tweeters on top of the existing plastic speaker grill on top of the dash. - The crossovers wound up being mounted high on the kickpanels in front of the front doors and so far nobody's managed to kick them. - The tweeters are almost too sharp. They can be adjusted on the crossover boxes and I put them at their lowest setting, which helps. - Low-end response has a surprising amount of kick to it. The speakers can handle more than my head unit (no separate amp) can give it. - I generally listen at low to moderate volumes and am perfectly happy with the sound. When I crank it up, it seems like the highs and lows overpower the mid-range. Bass and treble come through clear, but vocals get buried. Maybe I need to spend some more time tweaking my equalizer settings.

Overall, I'm very happy with these Polk speakers.

Pros: Clear, sharp highs, surprisingly strong bass, can handle more than my head unit can throw at it.

Cons: Installation took a lot more time and effort than expected. Lows and highs overpower mid-range when the volume is cranked up.

1998 BMW 323I
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm really happy with these speakers. They are a great deal and sound fantastic. I'm pushing them with an amp that provides 60w per channel behind a JVC Aresenal head unit. The install in my e36 BMW went well. My only complaint to them is the wire connected to the tweeter is hard connected. There is a 5 or 6 foot lead on it, but when installing in the doors there's no easy way to disconnect them if you have to pull off the door panel.

Pros: Sound quality, build quality, several mounting accessories, value

Cons: tweeter his hard wired to its lead.

Tricky Install, But Nice Speakers

Written by: Jake from Norwich, CT on July 16, 2012

I installed these in a 2005 Toyota Corolla Sport, and they took a while to install (the tweeters ended up being mounted with double sided tape and some electrical tape, as the supplied polk bracket was too large for the sail panel). Once I turned on the stereo, I could hear a huge difference. The sound sounded as if it were coming more from the dash, rather than the floor (it was clear these tweeters did much more than the stock ones). Overall, I'd say they are a good speaker for the money, and worth the install.

2008 Honda Ridgeline
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've just installed two sets of these in my 2008 Honda Ridgeline. The improvement in sound quality over the factory speakers is simply fantastic. Mid and Highs are excellent and the low band is nice and tight. Crutchfield installation instructions, adapters and harness were spot on. Great Job. :)

Pros: Fantastic improvement over the factory speakers. Sound reproduction is excellent.

Cons: If you are looking for the "Deep Bass" reproduction you'll get some from these but they are limited by their size.

1995 Audi A6
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an old Audi A6 station wagon in which I have been replacing the old stock Bose system piece-by-piece. It has been a fairly difficult process in that the stock speakers were irregular sizes, but I got these to fit the rear door openings. The woofers and tweeters fit perfectly in the stock locations, and the crossovers mounted well with some double-sided tape to the inside of the door panel.

Of course, since they're 5 1/4" speakers, they don't produce much below 80 Hz, but above that the sound quality (and quantity) is great. I'm only powering them with the deck, but they still sound good; I can only imagine what they'd sound like with a good amp.

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: The Polk DXi 5250 system features Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofers. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use rubber surrounds.

Soft Dome Tweeters: The 1" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite dome tweeters provide clear, detailed highs.

Neodymium Magnets: Each tweeter employs a light-weight neodymium magnet for better efficiency.

Mounting: The supplied mounting cups allow you to surface or flush mount the tweeters. The tweeters swivel in the flush-mount housings, allowing you to adjust them for optimum imaging.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

  Surface Mount Flush Mount
Mounting Height 1.036" 0.404"
Depth screw depth 0.951"
Frame Diameter 1.997" 2.291"

Design: The outboard Butterworth crossovers are 2-way with a 4 kHz crossover point; both the high-pass and low-pass output slopes are 12 dB/octave.

Tweeter Level Switch: You can adjust the output of the tweeter to match a level appropriate to your vehicle or your system. On the end of crossover (opposite the terminals) the switch can be set to -3 dB, 0 dB, or +3 dB.

Protection Circuit: Each crossover has a built-in electronic circuit that protects the tweeter from accidental overdriving.

Crossover Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are screw terminals. The terminals will accommodate the included wire or spade connectors up to 0.35" wide.

Mounting: There are two mounting holes in the base of each crossover; the cover must be removed to install the mounting screws.
