Precision woofers showcase your music

The DXi651s speakers feature 6-1/2" polymer composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances. Also, the speaker frame's just under 2" deep with a mounting height of under 1/2", so you can install them in many space-challenged vehicles.

Aluminum dome tweeters broadcast detailed sound

Each 3/4" aluminum dome tweeter brings out the high-frequency highlights in your music, so you'll hear every detail of your most enthralling musical moments. From an intensely quiet acoustic pluck to the most exhilarating electric solo, it'll be a very entertaining ride.

Features

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance, Bi-Laminate composite, polypropylene cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio, resulting in faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses rubber surrounds.

Aluminum Dome Tweeters: Each speaker features a 3/4" aluminum dome tweeter for clear, accurate highs.

Customer Q&A

Q
I bought two pairs of these and put them in my 2001 Cherokee. The front pair sound great all the time but the back pair distort much earlier. Only difference is that the front pair are pretty well sealed up in foam baffles and are mounted in the doors while the rear set is attached to the headliner and have no baffles. What could be causing this?

Q
I have a 600 watt amp for 4 of these speakers. How much power (watts) should I put to each speaker? I can push 150 watts to each speaker if needed. what do I need to push to each one?
carson  Sep 22, 2015

A
I put no more than a 100 watts on each speaker for the best performance. because if you try to put the peak power you will have a really bad sound. is my personal opinion.

How about the bass with these speakers? is it good?

These speakers have plenty of bass for my Honda Civic. I call the OEM speakers "Chinese Paper Plates". I put in an HD radio that can add a sub-woofer, but I don't really see the need, I'm pleased.

the bass in these speakers are very good I had two other top brands put in and they did not produce the bass like the polks

For door panel speakers it's fine. Still way better than factory speakers.

The DXI's are nice, I installed them in a Dodge Stratus SXT so take my opinion as such since they may sound different depending on your vehicles interior volume/acoustics. I am running them in the front doors with foam baffles and DXI 6x9's in the rear deck (both factory locations), and are powered only by the JVC Arsenal head unit. I tuned the EQ to my liking (also a variable to consider with your application) to play as loud as possible without distortion. The rear view mirror blurs from the bass! About the same as my friend's Chevy Lumina with a 10" Kenwood sub in his trunk (not sure amp/power)! The 6x9's in the rear deck are the reason for this I am sure (more air movement) but they sound clean! I would recommend them! I would also recommend the Polk DB's, which I installed four 6.5" DB's in a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo using the same model JVC head unit with the exception of adding a Polk DB dual enclosure with a Polk Amp powering them. With the amp off, they sound equally (if not better) than the DXI's. Though I can not truely compare as interior volume/accustics are different, and no 6x9's in the Jeep.

I put these speakers in a 2000 model super cab z-71 and I absolutely love them! The sound is very crisp and clear on the highs. I can't tell you much about the bass with them tho, I have a custom box and two tens under the back seat and is where most of the bass I hear comes from. My polks do a great job getting the lyrics out over the bass. Hope this info helps

The speakers have much better bass than the factory speakers in my 09 civic. That is the only comparison I have. I was not disappointed with the sound. Hope it helps.

It's good. But I need more power for system.

These speakers sound really good but miss the very low end. You can't really expect it from a small door speaker. If you're looking for some thump and rumble adding a small powered subwoofer would make a great set up.

Has anyone out there put these in a 1999 Tacoma? If so, I'd like to hear your opinion on ease of installation. Don

I installed in 2005 tacoma ,had to use a mount kit .install is always easy with crutchfeilds support sheets. Highly recomdended.

Don, I have never installed these in your particular vehicle. That being said, if you do some research on how to access and remove the factory speaker, that should be all you would need to know I would think. Once you have access to the speaker for removal/install, its just 4 screws and a terminal to unplug. Get the speaker harness adapters for quick plug and play installation. Hope this helps a little. Best of luck to you sir! An excellent sounding speaker I might ad.
