Polk Audio DXi651s

Enjoy your music even more

Go ahead, circle the parking lot till your favorite song is over. Polk Audio's DXi Series speakers will make you want to hit "repeat" so you can hear it all over again. Polk uses a high-tech approach and ideal materials to give your tunes an exciting new edge.

Precision woofers showcase your music

The DXi651s speakers feature 6-1/2" polymer composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances. Also, the speaker frame's just under 2" deep with a mounting height of under 1/2", so you can install them in many space-challenged vehicles.

Aluminum dome tweeters broadcast detailed sound

Each 3/4" aluminum dome tweeter brings out the high-frequency highlights in your music, so you'll hear every detail of your most enthralling musical moments. From an intensely quiet acoustic pluck to the most exhilarating electric solo, it'll be a very entertaining ride.

Great upgrade over the factory speaker. Sound is great across all level. Installation was a breeze thanks to the included bracket and wiring adaptors.

Great Value

Written by: Woody from Florence, OR on May 2, 2016

2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 Class

I installed four speakers in a crew cab. With the adapter plates and wire plugs it was a snap. The bose paper cones were starting to tear, it was time to upgrade. I only used the front adapter plates. The rear speakers screwed directly in place of the old ones. It would only take about an hour to install the speakers but I lubed the window slides and door lock parts (once again it was time for some maintenance and the door panels were off). So far they sound great, not much for bass but with the old bose system I left the sub in place and that fills the void on the lower end.

Pros: Crutchfield complete hardware kit makes install easy, Great sound for the dollar,

Cons: none so far!!

Polk speakers for rear doors of my Ram 3500 XLT

Written by: Tom F. from garland, TX on February 22, 2016

2007 Dodge Ram 3500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield did not offer OEM replacements for the rear-door mount speakers, but these were highly recommended and were almost an ideal replacement. The only alteration i had to make was to drill 3 1/8" screw holes in the area to mount the speakers. I'd estimate that after reading the step by step instructions - I may have spent 10 minutes per door. Really easy - and the electrical connections couldn't be simper - perfect match for the factory wiring harness. They sound great!

Pros: Easy to install - drill 3 1/8" holes in the mount and use the mounting hardware and wiring adapter for an easy project. A few minutes of your time to get great sound again in your car or truck. I'd say almost anyone can do this themselves.

Cons: These Polk Audio speakers have no cons that i can speak of.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The rear door speakers on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra had started buzzing and needed to be replaced. I didn't want to add an amp or change the stock head unit, so the online Crutchfield rep suggested this pair. I bought them and had them installed at a local installer. These Polks sound much crisper than the old rear stock speakers and pair very well with the stock front component speakers. Only be warned that the bracket crutchfield includes with the order may not be the right size. Mine was not deep enough to fit the speaker flush with the door panel. Luckily the installer could use the stock bracket and just cut out the old speaker cones. Might suggest this if you run into the same issue.

Pros: Crisp sound, fits well as direct replacement, good price

Cons: None so far

Replaced my factory speakers that had gone out on my truck. I had bought some polk 4x6 speakers about 10 years ago for a previous truck that I had. the 4x6 speakers would scream and sounded awesome!! For that reason I went with polk speakers again. These speakers sound good and have a clean sound. I gave a 4 star rating because they do lack some bass and do not quite live up to the previous speakers I had, but overall satisfied with the buy and the price. I got them on sale and replaced all 4 speakers.

Pros: clean sound

Cons: lack bass

The Crutchfield rep advised me on these Polk DXi650's and I couldn't be happier. They sound very clear and my OEM speakers were starting to "drum". The inner cone may have been letting loose. They happened to also be on sale , so how could I go wrong. The install kit and the wiring adapters to the GM harness made this install too easy.

Pros: Sound ,easy install and price.

2008 Trailblazer rear speaker replacements

Written by: mikewh328 from New Jersey on October 28, 2015

2008 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The fine folks at Crutchfield had recommended these speakers to be decent replacement speakers to the factory-installed speakers that blew out in my Trailblazer several months ago. They were fairly easy to install - I didn't need the mounting brackets that were sent to me, and I probably could have saved the few added dollars and not had the Panel-removal tool sent to me as well, but for the sound quality that I was looking for, these will be perfect for me. I've already had them in my Trailblazer for a week now and I'm impressed with their sound.

Pros: Price, ease of installment, sound quality is "just right."

Cons: You will need to play with your "Bass" and "Tremble" settings if you're still using a factory-installed stereo, like I am. Once you get your settings just right (where you don't feel like you're listening to music through a paper towel roll), leave them where they are for all your music.

Hard to tell

1963 Ford Falcon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound of a set of speakers depend on much more than just the speakers. The housing and the preparation (sound deadening) of the housing can have a big impact on the sound of the speakers. The unit used to play the media in the speakers has a significant impact. And many other factors can effect the sound you get out of these or any speakers. Having said that I am satisfied with what I got for what I paid. I wish I could afford more on the power going to the speakers and the environment they were installed into (large square doors with metal on each side and only about 3" thick), but I am happy with these.

Pros: Clean looking

Cons: Installation instructions not great. An extra ring comes attached to the speakers. This ring is not mandatory to install. There was no indication that this was the case until I perplexed over taking it off and installing the speakers directly into my doors. Turned out that was the only way I could install them. There was no mention of this in the instructions. I spent about 30 extra minutes on the installation because of this.

Weak

Written by: Dan from Maryland on September 6, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Here's the skinny on these speakers. Build quality is nice but sound quality was weaker than I expected. There is no bass. Wish the rep had told me from the get go that I would need a sub, because I told him I like very loud music. Have to turn my Kenwood Excelon KDC-X599 volume to 27/35 which is 3/4 of the way (and too much) to get any kind of sound out of them. Very low bass will have an after rumble at this level. Not good. I hear a lot of good things about the customer service from Crutchfield. Frankly, I am disappointed. They may be good at returns and responsive to online chat, but the representatives don't give the best advice or a heads up to see what extras you'll really need for completion, IE. posi-connectors, slide connectors, more speaker wire, etc.

Pros: Nice quality, high signals

Cons: Bass, customer service

Decent

2004 Acura RSX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Some background - my car comes with Bose amp and speakers. Factory radio is not Bose. I installed a new Pioneer radio only, installed rear speakers a month later, and front speakers 2 weeks later, because I was working lots of overtime. That one month with the original Bose speakers - sound was great except for some portion of mid-bass, kind of boomy and there was some resonance that made some of the lower frequencies too loud. Installed back speakers, the mid-bass was "tighter". Installed front speakers, mid-bass became solid. The factory subwoofer provides the really deep bass, so for those expecting subwoofer performance from these are going to be disappointed. The highs are good, almost too good. Had to change EQ settings to reduce the high freqs. The factory tweeters in the dash complement these speakers - I can hear tambourines, cymbals, just like the band was in the car. To hear it at freeway speeds in my noisy car was a miracle. The "Marine Certified" feature of these speakers give me confidence for super-humid days (not in CA but elsewhere in the USA) and possible rain leaking into the door, as well as longevity of sound quality.

Pros: If you're starting with a non-Bose speaker/amp combo. the improvement will be tremendous. If you already have a Bose sound system, you get a refinement equal to some of the best factory provided units (leave the $2K - $5K optional cost factory units out of this comparison). But then I didn't have to spend four figures of $$$ to get great sound.

Cons: Installation in front doors was a pain.

Disappointed from the start

Written by: ZOG from Kentucky on August 15, 2015

Had heard good things about Polk and these fit so I ordered up a set. as soon as I mounted them I knew they were to bright and produce no bass. I know my factory head unit is spitting out high treble but these were just to much and didn't compensate with any bass. they do look like they are made well and the mounting was easy and came with everything I needed but they just didn't suit my taste or system in my 2015 challenger base radio. Crutchfield swapped them out with no question and I got a set that sound better to my Ear.

Pros: easy install, nice quality.

Cons: to bright to my ear with no bass to compensate. they went back!

Polk DXi 651s

Written by: John D from North Carolina on August 8, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polk DXi 651s speakers are ok. They have excellent clarity but the mid bass response is very poor in my opinion. I have heard stock car systems with more mid bass. I waited until I got an amplifier to review these speakers because I feel like you can't properly judge a speaker unless it's properly amplified. These speakers are power hungry and they handle the power ok but not as good as you would think a set of speakers for this price would. Also, you really only need one set of these because you don't even notice the rear set. You definitely need a subwoofer with these speakers to enjoy them. I would recommend 1 set of these, a subwoofer and a 4 channel amp instead of buying an extra set for the rear. If you like midbass, these speakers aren't for you no matter who recommends them. They will only give you so much midbass maybe because they're shallow mount, I'm not sure. I got these on sale from Crutchfield, so I'm ok with them, but if I had paid full price for the pair I would be very unhappy. I hope this review helps, I tried to be as honest as possible.

Pros: Great tweeter and clarity

Cons: Very poor midbass even with an amplifier

Installed these speakers in my 2013 Ram 1500 Crew Cab. All 4 doors had stock 6x9's. I had already replaced my stock head unit with a Jensen DVD, Nav, and Sat with a 6.5 inch screen that I also purchased from Cruthfield which has EQ settings and a loudness button which does these speakers justice over the stock unit.

Pros: With the mounts and wires that come free with the speaker purchase I had the old speakers out and these new Polk Audios in, in 15 minutes per door.

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've always had good results with Polk products. Excellent bang for the buck. Replaced my stock 6x9 speakers in my 2015 Ram 1500 R/T regular cab. Big improvement over the factory...which isn't hard to do. These speakers could benefit from an amp, as the factory Alpine H/U doesn't do them justice. Then again, if were going that route I would use higher-end components. There is zero distortion at max volume. This was a nice low budget upgrade for my truck.

Pros: Slim mount. Decent quality for the price.

Cons: None at this price point.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the tired factory speakers in my 98 Chrysler Cirrus with these in the front doors. I had always been surprised that the stock speakers had the bass that they did, but boy did they suck in the mids and highs. These Polk DXi651's are awesome sounding! The mids and highs are back, and paired with the DXi691's (mounted in the back) you get good bass while not sub level, is very respectable. I was not looking to blow the windows out with bass, and find the tonal balance to be spot on. I have long been a fan of Polk speakers and these do not disappoint.

Pros: Good performance from a 2-way speaker. If this is all you are going to use, you will need to augment the bass (I used the DXi691 6x9's on the back). Otherwise these are great speakers.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Recently installed these in my 96 chevy truck , they fit great with the mounting brackets and wiring adapters supplied . Good quality construction and sound nice and clear . Although there could be a stronger bass , which you could probably get by adding the right equipment . I do have to turn the volume up louder than I had to with the old factory speakers . This does result in a clearer , better sound . Over all I would say this was and is a good buy for the money.

Pros: Clearer overall sound . Fit perfect in front doors ( with adapter brackets ) . Which were supplied along with wiring connectors at no charge . No cutting factory wires , just plug in .

Cons: Don't really have any for now.

Replaced the failed front speakers in my 2007 Silverado with these, as recommended by Crutchfield. Only the separate tweeters were working in the original configurations so I left them active. The fit perfect and sound exceptional. Very, very satisfied. I read reviews where the bass was lacking but I have no complaints. Nice, rich bass and midrange and tweeter sections are clear as well.

Pros: Factory mounting plate included Wiring adapter included Have a nice quality look and feel Nice bass, better than I expected. Highly recommended, great value for the money Stock speakers are garbage compared to these

Cons: I can't think of any. We'll see how long they last.

not impressed

Written by: koachs from Ohio on January 29, 2015

Been a Polk fan for many years, but was not impressed by these purchased to replace OEM in my 2015 Subaru Outback. They are cleaner, more clear, fuller and warmer sounding over the stock speakers. Unfortunately, to get any sound out of them I have to turn up the volume much farther than I did with stockers and it's only at these volumes that I can finally hear any bass. Even then, it's still really weak. So, it's either purchase a subwoofer right away (which I didn't want to because I'm trying to make modifications elsewhere) or I send these back and buy the Subaru/Kicker upgrade kit that has a better sensitivity rating (which I really don't feel like doing). Overall I rate them 2.5, halfway, cuz while they are an improvement they also need more power or subwoofer for acceptable levels of sound.

Pros: clear, full, warm

Cons: no bass, takes a lot more power to get moving

This company is amazing! I had to buy speakers for my daughter's Honda Civic and have never bought speakers before. Crutchfield was recommended by my service guy. Ordering was simple with the Chat feature. I talked to two different employees and both were exceptionally helpful and made me feel confortable. I was told they would arrive before Christmas, and because I ordered them a few days before Christmas I didn't hold my breath. I imagined my daughter opening a box with a picture of the speakers on Christmas morning. Someone knocked on my door at 4 o'clock on Christmas Eve and my Fed Ex man handed me a package - the speakers. I almost fell in the floor. We just had them put in and she is really enjoying them. Thank You!

1998 Jeep Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased two pairs of these speakers to replace the stock speakers in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ. If you own an XJ then you know that the stock speaks are cheap, weak and lacking in every sense. These Polk speakers are larger than the stock speakers, yet they still fit the space available. The only issue I encountered was with the front passenger door - the panel rested against the speaker. I had to create a buffer space between the speaker and the panel, but that has nothing to do with the speaker itself. Sound-wise, the speakers are nice. They are louder than the stock XJ speakers, and much more clear. Don't expect much bass from these little guys. Also, these speakers need to be broken in before they sound proper. Within 3 or 4 hours of constant playing, they finally found their sound. Great replacement speaker for an XJ. Don't forget to include the wiring harness adapter.

Pros: Balanced sound. Good build quality.

Cons: Mediocre low-end.

Gotta love good sound. The install was simple with some difficulties screwing the speakers on to the brackets. But that is not worth taking away from the quality of these speakers. I had them installed without a subwoofer for about a week and I really liked the upgrade of the stock system just with these speakers. The sound really good!

Pros: Sound and price, got them on sale!

Cons: screwing them on the brackets is a bit tough. But that is not really the speakers fault.

I used them with the bog standard stereo for about an month they were good but the stock stereo just didn't do it for me so I got a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X898 and that baby really opened them up the Blu-tooth and some high quality mp3 songs really liven them up. The other reviews are right they don't have a ton of bass and don't have have a "boomy" sound at all, the bass is tight and punchy and really only audible at mid to high volumes which is what I happen to like. Great affordable crisp clear speakers. As always, Polk quality. They're not my first brand choice, but I needed a shallow speaker, and they afforded the quality I demand in the space I had to work with. Clean and clear. Installed four of these in the car, and paired them with a small powered subwoofer under the seat. The midrange and highs they add complement well. I knew Polk wasn't as punchy with the bass response as other brands, but I knew it would work with the sub.

Pros: Great clarity and quality at a reasonable price.

Cons: Not a lot of punch on the bass, but you're never going to get a lot with a 6.5" coaxial anyway. Would definitely recommend if paired with a subwoofer.

These two speakers were installed in the front of a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. Supplied instructions were more than adequate. The passenger side speaker was quite easy, with the driver side being much more difficult. The universal speaker adapter required minor modification, made easier with a dremmel tool. I packed the speaker pods with poly fill. I used loc tite to attach the speaker adapters to the pods because I did not the screws working loose. I than removed the overhead speakers and packed them with poly fill as well. Overall degree of difficulty installation was moderate.

Pros: Speakers sound excellant. Must have tools are the dremmel with attachments and a quarter inch drive socket with extension.Well worth the effort. These speakers are powered by a Kenwood DDX 371. I balanced the speakers to better distribute the sound between the overhead and front speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these to replace the OEM speakers in the rear deck of a 2001 Malibu. They are paired with Polk's DXi461p in the front doors, and an Infinity powered sub. I'm using a Kenwood head unit to drive it all. Crutchfield did its usualy excellent job of providing the adapter plate and cabling to make installation a snap. Testing these speakers with a full spectrum signal (just to see how the sound) showed that they were rather lacking in the bass ranges. Since I have a powered sub for that, it really didn't matter to me and I set the x-overs to not feed bass to these speakers. The mids and highs sound great. If I go crazy with the sub levels, it distorts the rear speakers so I think I might need to devise a way to separate the airspace in the trunk from the back side of these speakers. Not the fault of these speakers, but might be something to consider.

Pros: Great mids and highs Easy install thanks to Crutchfield

Cons: Weak bass

Perfect fit for both Front (no window issues) & Rear speakers. I have an 03' Pontiac Vibe, (moon & toons pkg with amp under passgt seat) lot of info on genvibe website of how to make replacement speakers fit, with various ingenious little tweaks.......all needless! IF, you order these speakers from Crutchfield with free supplied mounting bracket, and the wiring harness ...which is icing on the cake! Zero modifications, yes you have to actually look at it, and spin the mounting bracket till it lines up with holes....c'mon fellow reviewers get a brain. You also will have to clip off 1-2 extra tabs that stick out on sides of bracket, but they are made for removal if not being used. Plug and play doesn't get any easier! I got the Dxi651s, on sale, so might want to watch for price changes.

Pros: Ease of fit on pontiac vibe

Cons: Not super base...but not expected.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these in the front doors of a 2002 Nissan Frontier, replacing the stock speakers. Installation was a little convoluted, but that was because I chose to modify the factory blown speakers into brackets for these. They fit behind the stock door grilles just fine. Sound is pretty good. Not a lot of real low-end, but plenty for a 6 1/2". The top end is a little muted, but that could also be due to the position in the bottom of the door panels. I kept the factory tweeters hooked up to give a little more sparkle. These speakers work well listening to rock, blues and country, but not so much with EDM or dubstep. The regular driver of the truck is into blues and blues-rock, and is more than happy with these speakers.

Pros: Shallow depth. Easy, one piece installation with no "gotcha's" or other pitfalls. Sound really good for delta blues, rock, jazz and country. Made the truck's owner very happy.

Cons: Not so good for dance music or dubstep. Not a whole lot of low end. Treble is somewhat muted and doesn't seem to sparkle.

Bought these based primarily on mostly very favorable reviews on this site as well as Polk Audio's alleged stellar stereo speaker reputation. These were front door speaker replacements for the factory crap in my 2009 Honda Civic. I have not replaced the factory in-dash stereo/cd receiver at this writing, but was still very hopeful of greatly improved sound quality from these. Alas, it wasn't to be. After a bit of a struggle with the installation, I proudly fired up the tunes and.....sigh. Frankly, these are just a LITTLE better sounding to my ears than the thin, paper cone, near weightless factory speakers, but not nearly as much as I'd hoped. I realize a new, better head unit should significantly improve the listening experience. BUT, if you aren't replacing your factory HU, don''t expect a quantum leap in sound. These are slightly more clear in the treble and mid-range, but again nothing to write home about. Color me unimpressed at this time but hopeful of better times ahead: Better input should equal better output...

Was such an improvement over the factory speakers which were made of a plastic cone and a magnet so small it didn't react to metal. Thank you to the staff who were very personable and answered all my questions on the installation. After supervising the installation of the1st speaker my daughter installed the other three speakers herself. They sound sooo much better than factory. These speakers are fantastic. I finally replaced my stock speakers since one of them was blown. I fooled myself for a few years while I thought my amp and subs paired with the stock was more than sufficient. Upon hooking these bad boys up, I was easily able to tell the difference! I have them hooked up to my aftermarket head unit, an above par one, and they sound great. I am sure they would sound better or louder if hooked up to an amp, but I don't need my ears to bleed, lol. A great price for some superb speakers, don't hesitate to pick a pair up!

Pros: High quality, great sound, and Polk Audio which are well known for just that. No distortion to almost peak level, I highly recommend!

2002 Chevrolet Suburban
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers replaced the front-door units in my 1500 Suburban, which had previously been replaced with Pioneer 5.5" speakers several years ago. These are MUCH better speakers; they are more-accurate, the treble is nicely-balanced and the midrange is not shrill or out-of-place. The only complaint is that bass can be a bit thin, but that's to be expected with this size of a driver -- if you really want deep bass, you need a sub -- period. (Mine is out in the truck, which I need to fix.) IMHO they're a decent deal at their "regular" price, but a very good deal when on sale. The provided brackets were zero-hassle on installation as were the harnesses. True plug-n-play; I was done installing them within 20 minutes. The stock head unit is able to drive them to reasonable, but not LOUD, levels. If you want real loud you're going to need an amp, but for reasonable listening levels the standard head unit is fine, unlike many other speakers that simply can't get themselves off the floor without external amplified power. Can you do better? Sure. How much money do you have? These hit a nice sweet spot between "cheap" and "ok, that's expensive" while delivering a clear, well-balanced sound-stage. For the asking price I like these a lot and when they go on sale the next time around I'll stick another set in the rear doors - and may do my other car with them too.

Pros: Nice, even soundstage. Well-balanced between mid-bass, midrange and treble.

Cons: They're capable of more than a stock head unit can deliver. Get a sub and high-pass crossover to get the bass off these and into the sub, along with separate amplification, and I suspect these will REALLY wake up.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These fit in the stock pods on my 03 TJ without modification. I went with the higher priced aluminum tweeter version (the ones I am reviewing) thinking they would produce crisper highs when riding with top off my Jeep. I wasn't real impressed with that aspect. They do however sound good. I would buy the less expensive version of these if I had it to do over again. That being said, I don't have that set to listen to so they may not be any better and may in fact be worse. These speakers replaced 5.25" KickerDS525's and really have a MUCH warmer/fuller midrange than the kickers had. They are bigger so that may be a factor. They fit without modification into the stock openings and I was able to use the original oem screws for mounting. I elected to use the Polk covers as opposed to stock because the built-up area where the screws go through the stock covers was in contact with the foam portion of the speaker. I was afraid this would be detrimental to the integrity of the speaker over long term. The Polk covers take up a lot of real estate on the pods and I wish they were designed to be a little less conspicuous. Overall these speakers produce a warm clear sound and handle my 20W RMS x 4 head unit very well. I am able to turn the volume 6 points higher than with the kickers before distortion. I am using these with a JVC KDX250BT Head Unit, Kenwood KSC-SW11 Powered Sub Woofer (that fits nicely under my back seat), and Polk DXi461p for front.

Pros: Nice warm sound with great midrange.

Good Value, Surprising Performance

Written by: Mike from Ann Arbor, Michigan on March 30, 2014

I have these speakers in the front and rear doors of my 2003 Subaru Legacy. The fronts are a perfect factory replacement, while the tears require a little trimming for clearance on the inside of the door. With Crutchfield's great instructions, the total install took less than an hour for both sets. These are sensitive speakers and sound great running off the deck. They are a little bright out of the box, but a short break in period really balanced them out. I am very pleased with my purchase. I have about a year of hard use on them now. I push them to their limit and these speakers still sound great. Hard to beat for the money.

Pros: Price, Value, Sound, Durability

Cons: Not much to complain about.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Polk Audio DXi651s speakers were the best choice for the doors in my 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 due to depth space in the doors. I had previously bought a pair of 6x9 Kickers that were supposed to fit but were a full inch too deep. I have been a fan of Polk for a long time and these speakers didn't disappoint. They sound much better than the other two sets of Kickers I installed front and rear.

Pros: Sound reproduction capability Quality of fit and finish Ease of installation

Cons: Higher quality costs more - enough said.

Installed these in my 2005 Cobalt along with a pair of DXI690s. I'm running them off the stock head unit and the mids and highs sound great on them, however there is very little coming from the bass department. Luckily the DXI690s in the rear make up for lack of bass in these. Major improvement over stock, and a decent pair of speakers for the price.

Purchased these speakers for the door of my 99 silverado. I have two of these with a JL10 powered with a JBL 3 channel amp. These things sound good and are loud. Others have complained about no bass, I purchased them for mid and highs so didnt want bass. I love the mid range of these speakers, would like to have a little more from the tweeters but still not bad. They were a great addition to my system.

Pros: Just good speakers, nothing really off the chart special. Came with mounting screws and nicely packaged.

Cons: Could use a little more highs.

Replaced rear speakers in an Element. Used the shallow mount, and no issues with installation. Did not have to cut the rear speaker protection shell. Wiring adapter was perfect fit. I still have the OEM head unit, so the speakers are not really maximized. these are not big bass producers, but nice mid to high ends. Slightly above factory speakers. Caught them on sale, so I'm satisfied.

Pros: Easy to install. No modification required. Plug and play. Nice high end. sale price makes them a reasonable purchase.

Cons: Weak bass. Really require head unit update to maximize.

I replaced my stock speakers in my Chevy HHR, which were pretty much junk, with the Polk DXi651s. The Polks are a good all-a-round good speaker for the money. If you are using them with a stock head unit don't expect a lot of accurate bass. If you run a sub with a aftermarket head unit then these Polks do a pretty fine job. The high's are a little harsh sounding but not bad for the money.

Pros: Good speaker for the money....

Installation was literally a snap on my Sliverado using the speaker brackets. No drilling at all just snap the speakers into place along with the wiring harness that were supplied free with the speakers I didn't have to splice into the wiring harness just plug right into the stock harness.

Pros: Sound great with my stock stereo. The installation could not have been any easier

2005 Saturn Vue

Written by: Sound Guy from Franklin, Indiana on February 21, 2014

2005 Saturn VUE
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's tough to give a rating to speakers because of the natural bias. Does it sound better than the factory speakers? Well, how old is the car? What kind of car is it? Does it sound better than more expensive speakers? Are you still using the factory stereo? With that in mind, I gave these 5/5. My 2005 Saturn Vue isn't the quietest vehicle around and while I have put in sound-deadening in the doors and hatch, the interior noise on the interstate is still noticeable. I had already replaced with factory dash stereo with a nice mid-price JVC unit and heard some improvement. Time for new speakers. This takes me to last night and installing Polk DXi650s's as replacements for my four door speakers. My Vue additionally came with tweeters on the front pillar which are still factory. After the install, I popped in a rock CD with good dynamic range across songs and was very happy with the results. The bass presence and clarity was top-notch. I was also hearing more nuances in the mid-range. Between the JVC stereo and the Polk speakers, I'm rockin' to my rock, thumpin' to my techo, and jamming to my jazz.

Pros: Great low end. Great mid-range.

Cons: Polk's manual has one picture of how the speaker should be put into a door. Only a picture, which isn't too bad except there are more holes than screws by the time you include the adapter, speaker, and grille. If you are putting these into a door or other area which already has a grille, don't mess with the Polk grille. That's what i opted to do.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had some installation issues. The instructions that came for my vehicle reference the speakers having a wiring harness, but there was no harness or wiring included. This made it difficult as I had to run out and get parts halfway through the install...not so bad if you know ahead of time and your car is not in pieces. I also had to remove some plastic on the inside of my rear door panels because the included adapters were too big...also not mentioned in the installation instructions. In all if everything was as it should be this would have taken me less than an hour but because of the issues it took 3 times that. As for sound, they are OK. My Chevy had the worst factory speakers I have ever heard...I was expecting a huge difference, but its just not there. They are definitely a fair bit clearer...I think if I were to add an amp I would get the difference I'm looking for; they seem very under powered. I'm sure they will get better as they break in but I definitely wouldn't recommend bothering unless you're installing an amp as well or your speakers are blown or something.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

No Bass. That's it in a nutshell. I'm no teenager anymore, but I've been installing and upgrading car stereos for 25 yrs. These speakers look nice, sound ok at low volume, but no noticeable bass I could detect. It was so bad I took them out and sent them back. Nothing against Crutchfield, as usual, they were quick to take them back. I just like to hear and FEEL the bass in the car, which these speakers just broke up and sounded like mud when I pushed the bass even a little. Granted they were 6.5's, and now I went with the original size 6 x 9's. A little warning on that with the Ram 1500's, you only have about 3' depth to work with on the front door speakers, the rear doors have almost no limit. The window bracket is in the back of the front door speaker, I got around it using a 1/4" spacer behind the speakers I went with, which, turned out to be the Kicker 6 x 9's. And those speakers kick butt!

Pros: Look nice, nice mid tones and up. Easy install.

Cons: No bass at all.

Excellent Speakers

Written by: Joe from Hudson, NH on January 11, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Polk DXi651s speakers were recommended by the Crutchfield advisor as a replacement for the door speakers of my 2002 Honda Civic EX sedan. They were a good fit using the speaker adapter bracket provided by Crutchfield. I only had 1-3/4" clearance between the face of the door and the window when it was rolled down. The top mount depth of these speakers is 2" and the adapter bracket provided just enough space to pull the back of the speaker away from the window. Since we had to remove the entire door panel of the Civic to install the speakers, I was concerned that the door panel would not fit over the speaker with the bracket but everything went back together without any problems. I love the way these speakers sound. They have a well balanced sound with nice crisp highs and a solid bass response. They are being powered by a Kenwood head unit that puts out 22 watts per channel with a maximum output of 50 watts. They would probably sound even better with more power but I'm happy with this set up. The construction of these speakers is of high quality and seem very durable. The speaker wiring harness provided by Crutchfield fit perfectly with the Honda plug and made the install that much easier.

Pros: Nice sound Perfect fit

Cons: None

I put these DXi651s in the front door of my 2000 Chevy Siverado. They sound five times better than the horrible GM paper speakers ever did. The built in crossover to the aluminum tweeter is a nice bonus and the tweeter sounds crisp and clear. My head unit currently is stock with no amp. I know from other purchases of Polks that they sound even better with more wattage driving them. I would rate these five stars if they were made in the USA.

Pros: Great sound at a good value, builit in crossover, and the aluminum tweeter. Nice looking understated black speaker grills if you need them.
