Precision woofers showcase your music
The 3-way DXi690 speakers feature 6"x9" polymer/mica composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances.

Silk/polymer dome tweeters broadcast sweet sound
Rest assured, you'll hear every detail of your most enthralling musical moments. The 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter brings out the high-frequency highlights in your music, while a 3/4" dome supertweeter adds breathtaking dimension. A proprietary magnetic liquid cools each tweeter so you'll get clear sound and excellent long-term performance. From an intensely quiet acoustic pluck to the most exhilarating electric solo, it'll be a very entertaining ride.

Great speakers for the price, can handle every bit of their advertised rms wattage and reproduce the sound accurately and clearly.

Great speakers. Excellent sound.

2006 Honda Accord VP
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to replace the stock 6x9s on the rear deck of 2006 Accord VP. These were showing as not fitting in this car. The Crutchfield rep said they were too high. Bought them anyway because of the great price and reviews. Dropped in and the stock grills fit with no issues. Sound amazing especially compared to the pathetic stock speakers. I have these and the front speakers powered by a Pioneer 5500BHS deck. They sound good. I would say that these would sound better if powered by an external amp. May go that route down the road. Highly recommended speakers.

Pros: High quality build, built in crossovers, great sound.

Cons: Tweeters are a little high. Make sure they fit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought two pairs of these for the front and rear doors of a 2014 Dodge Ram 3500. Front ones slipped right in, rear ones were a little more challenging to install but nothing too difficult. All the effort was worth it...even with the stock stereo these sound great, and way more full and clear then the stock speakers. I am excited to save up for a new head unit and amplifier!

Pros: Sound incredible, even with stock stereo

Cons: None

These Polks really brought my OEM system to the next level. I had another set of aftermarket speakers in my vehicle but these brought a clarity that I never thought possible with a factory outfit.

Pros: Great frequency response.

Cons: None that comes to mind

1966 GTO sounds amazing now

1966 Pontiac GTO
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Soo lets start this story like this.... my old man has a '66 GTO little bit of a restomod going on, he finished the resto in the late 90's early 2000's. Well the stereo was pathetic to say the least.. so I swapped out the aftermarket casset stereo for a original '66 AM radio. Relocated a pioneer multimedia single din headunit into the glove box, custom glove box mount and everything. Dad decided he wanted to go cheap on the rear speaker and I didnt agree orginally. So fast foward, we install these sony's. I voiced my opinion about which speaker would be better looking a perform better, next thing I know dad approves and says these look sooo much better than the sony's he originally bought. So on to Crutchfield and purchased these. I have these powered by a Rockford Fosgate 400W with a sub bridged on the other channels. Needless to say, these speakers DON'T look out of place at all in a classic car and they just sound amazing!!

Pros: Gorgeous look when together Crisp sounds mids sound incredible and im not even pushing them :) Made right here in the USA

Cons: GOOD GOD the size of these magnets puts some things to shame!!! Pain to put into the rear shelf of a 66 GTO but sooo worth it!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was curious how well these speakers would perform and sound with my Dodge Ram's stock radio. They sound great! I now need to purchase a matching 6 1/2" pair for the rear door speakers. Installation took less than 15 minutes.

Pros: Great sound and range!!!

Cons: Should include locking washers so the vibration of the bass doesn't jar loose the screws. Not a big deal.

Smooth and Natural Sound!!! ;)

Gilberto from Brownsville, TX on 9/28/2014

I bought these from a local big box store, not from Crutchfield. I spent close to an hour listening to these and other speakers and comparing the sound. It was either these or Alpine Type S. The Alpines looked nicer and the bass was fuller but the tweeter sounded less life like and more artificial. The DXIs just sound smoother and more natural. They have slightly less bass but the tweeters and woofer blend in better. I listen to all kinds of music and these sound great regardless. In my truck, I have them on 45W RMS. I can only imagine how they would sound on full power.

Pros: smooth tweeter, natural sound, has a super tweeter, marine certified, good materials, good build quality, high sensitivity

Cons: Plain design

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Real nice bass from these speakers. Mounted them in custom enclosures mounted on the rear wheel wells of a 1994 Jeep Wrangler. They really couple nice with the Polk 4 x 6 speakers in the front dash they add greater depth than the front speakers can provide.

Pros: Great sound

Cons: They don't make them any more?

Really? You're kidding with these grilles

PeterTH from Jacksonville, FL on 5/7/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers sound great, but a little thought could have gone into the design - particularly the mounting instructions (obscure in a "one booklet covers 90 countries" format AND the horrible grilles. You have to remove them to address the mounting holes, but getting that odd shape back into the tiny rails without bending them is really disturbing. I ended up damaging two, and Crutchfield said the no longer carried the speakers. I will end up with mis-matching grille covers. Pretty shoddy.

Pros: Sound good

Cons: No thought went into the instructions or the design of the grilles - practically impossible to mount them without bending/denting/distorting them. How about instead of a throw away "spacer" you put ten cents into designing a snap on grille cover than anyone could install? Shame on you Polk.

Kim's two cents

Kim from Englewood, FL on 4/30/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound wonderful across the entire frequency range. Volume is great. This is due mostly to picking the right speakers for my medium quality Clarion unit. I was planning to purchase much higher price speakers that would have been underpowered and I would have been disappointed. Luckily, I called and spoke with the Crutchfield rep and he explained how these (lower priced) speakers would perform better with my existing equipment. Hats off to Crutchfield. When I'm ready to buy a higher end system, I know who I'll buy from.

Pros: Great all-round sounds over the entire frequency range.

Cons: None.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these because of them being a great bargain at half price, and because of the Polk name. Even at that, I debated, due to them being used in '69 Camaro and knowing that mods would have to be made to rear package shelf in order to get them installed. Did not want to bottom mount, which meant removing metal to get them to fit. An originality purist would not want to put these in his car. I'll let it go at that. Paired up with RetroSound Zuma and the 93dB sensitivity allows for decent volume without dedicated amps. I like these enough that I have also ordered a pair of DXi525s to install in kick panels.

Pros: Well made. Nice looking. Sound great.

Cons: Despise the push in grilles.

Great sounding speakers and you can't beat the price. Some say that they don't put out bass, well they aren't subwoofers. Adding a amp, the closer you get to the RMS rating of the speaker, the better they will sound. I bought these a while back and just installed them 4 days ago and now I wish I would have installed them the day I got them. I still have 15 hours before I reach the 20 hour break in time. I have them powered with a Alpine MRX-F65 , backed up by a Alpine R12, powered by a Alpine MRX-M110. Head unit is a Sony DSX-S210X. Its not top of the line, but it is enough.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Sound, very nice upgrade from factory whether amplified or not. Unamplified, the sound is clear, highs are awesome, midrange is awesome, bass is a little sloppy and distorted. Amplified, these speakers shine. Block out the low range bass and these speakers are top notch and can be cranked. As most speakers of this size, trying to pump bass out creates distortion, if you believe you can get clean bass from a 6x9, it simply isn't the job meant for an 8 inch sub or bigger. Paired with a 50 to 100 watt amplifier they can really fill out the sound.

Pros: Priced right, high quality.

Cons: Bass distorts when not on a crossover.

Excellent Speakers for 2005 Toyota Sienna

Kingtut from Southern Calif. on 1/21/2014

2005 Toyota Sienna
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had the speakers installed into the front door, using professional installation, as I wanted more bass without using a sub-woofer. The installer cut out the original stock 6x9 speakers, which was compose of cheap paper for cone and a tiny magnet, and used the their brackets/frames to install the Polk into the front doors. The sound coming from the original speakers was muffled and unintelligible. The sound now improved quite a bit with the stock Fujitsu Ten/Toyota head unit. Bass is stronger, treble is more clear and I can actually hear what the they were so bad that I hardly turned the stereo on from day one that I purchased the van. I should've replace the speakers sooner. I probably will replace the head unit soon with an aftermarket one to get more power to drive the Polk speakers.

Pros: Good bass and treble, better mid-range than the original speakers.

Cons: Have to get professional installation in order to use 6x9 speakers to the front doors.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good Set of Speakers. I installed these in my 86 Ski Supreme boat. I am pretty happy with the product in general, I gave it 4 stars because the speaker grills tend to work themselves off the housing. But I am sure this is not typical in a car install. A boat has a lot of vibration and that tends to walk the grills off the speaker. They sound great when you are idle in a boat, but with a PCM 351 inboard you tend to hear the motor over the music.

Pros: Nice set of speakers. Happy with them.

Cons: grills tend to fall off on a boat.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers are nice looking units which I installed using wooden speaker boxes which I built. They sit on the rear package shelf of a '59 Thunderbird. I am using a Custom Autosound receiver with about 45 watts per channel. Since I just finished installing them last night I haven't had a chance to try them with any audio source other than the FM on the unit. They sounded OK but did not have as much bass as I had hoped. The mounting was a little tricky becuase using the screws provided in to wood , it was difficult to keep the screws exactly perpendicular and if you have any angle at all to the screws, the snap in grille will not fit correctly. The Crutchfield folks were great and recommended and provided the correct wires/terminal ends for the mount.

Pros: nice looking, marine rated.

Cons: hard to mount correctly in a wood base, not much bass.

Upgraded an old set of four way Kenwoods in my Wife's Grand Caravan. These are a major improvement all around. Clean bass, highs loud and not piercing or overpowering. Powered by 88 watts rms, crossovered at 80 hz, very happy with results. Highly reccommend these.

Pros: Price very reasonable for sound quality

Cons: can only think of the fact that the tweeter/midrange tower protrudes out enough to contact trim bezel in rear quarter when installed. Doesn't bother me, but someone else may find this unacceptable.....

They sound a whole lot better then my Audiobahn AS69Q's ever did. Great highs and mids, but you will want to add a small sub for bass.

Overall great speakers, sound is awesome. Will not handle lows well, nothing an amp and a good sub wouldn't fix. Just had to do that sooner than I wanted to

Pros: Great sound

Cons: Poor lows, need sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At first I was very disappointed by theses speakers. I had purchased these and the 570's 5 x 7 polks and for the life of me couldnt get any bass whatsoever even though I had played around with the eq on the head unit. So the next day i did a little more research on my HU and found that it did in fact have "loud" setting, that really helped but i still had major distortion on the extreme highs . Long story short I found out that I had to turn off all of the audio enhancements on my phone, so now they have great all around sound!

Pros: Great all-around sound, the bass is great while still able to get those mid-range vocals and screaming highs without distortion.

Cons: None for now.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my first set of Polk DXI 690's..I recently upgraded from a 2010 Ram Quadcab to a 2012. I purchased 2 sets of 690's to install into the quadcab doors. The difference between having the aftermarket Pioneer TSA 6974 6x9's with the Aramid fiber speakers and these new Polk 690's was " Definitely worth the few extra dollars!" Better clarity with a deeper, richer bass was noted by everyone. I am using the Factory Stereo..and am "Extremely Satisfied"! Only thing I feel I can do too improve anything in the near future might be to install a small Alpine 4 channel amp (40 watt or less) to maximize the Polk 690's full potential. As with my review of Polk 350's, the same remarks apply, not only will the 690's "Bring a smile to your face!," but with 2 sets installed in the 4 doors, these Polk's " Will put Chapstick on both of your Ears!"

Pros: Install went exactly as easily outlined in the Crutchfield install sheets provided..

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome speakers, great sound, tight punchy bass, perfect fit into my 1996 Saab 900, which anyone who owns one knows it is very hard to find something that easily adapts to that car. I'm very satisfied with the product and with Crutchfield's service and have already ordered another pair of Polk audio speakers.

Excellent sounding speakers!

RonR from Northhaven, CT on 8/27/2011

For the past 16 months I have been restoring a 1976 Pontiac Firebird Esprit. the car wears its original metalime green paint and has a white interior with black accents. The car originally came with one dash speaker and an AM radio. During restoration, when the interior was removed, I laid down the wires for an amplified 4 channel stereo system and applied new sound deadening material throughout the cab. The interior is a 35 year survivor in excellent condition after minor refurbishing. I bought these speakers to mount under my new package tray behind the rear seat. I have them connected to a Kenwood kdc-x395 receiver which I learned about and purchased through Crutchfield. These speakers match very nicely with this reciever and deliver crisp highs and tight bass. Eventually, I will add an Infinity reference 4 channel amplifier and find a suitable location for DXi series front speakers without cutting the dash. This car is starting to sound as good inside as it does outside!

I flush mounted these in my back porch ceiling hoping for a sleek look and more bass than what seems to come from outdoor box speakers. I could not be more excited with the results. From the grill to the garden, Polk Audio delivers!!!

JamalC from Louisville,KY on 3/11/2011

I bought these along with some pioneer 6.5s but after hearing these i will eventually change the front 6.5 to polks. When first installed I was disappointed with the volume they were getting distorted at, but after breaking them in for about a week they sound better and better everyday, i can now almost max my kenwood cd player out and they are still crystal clear. From now on I will only use polk for my components. Well worth the price

Features

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each Polk DXi 690 speaker features a Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Tweeters: The DXi 690s feature a 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter and a 3/4" silk/polymer dome super tweeter for clear, accurate highs. The tweeters employ a light-weight neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.
