Enjoy your music even more

Go ahead, circle the parking lot till your favorite song is over. Polk Audio's DXi Series speakers will make you want to hit "repeat" so you can hear it all over again. Polk uses a high-tech approach and ideal materials to give your tunes an exciting new edge.

Precision woofers showcase your music

The DXi691 speakers feature 6"x9" polymer composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances.

Silk/polymer and aluminum dome tweeters broadcast sweet sound

Rest assured, you'll hear every detail of your most enthralling musical moments. The 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter brings out the high-frequency highlights in your music, while a 3/4" aluminum dome supertweeter adds breathtaking dimension. From an intensely quiet acoustic pluck to the most exhilarating electric solo, it'll be a very entertaining ride.

Great range, very happy with these speakers. More bass than I expected.

Great Speakers for RAM front doors

Written by: CL from Tampa, FL on July 25, 2016

2004 Dodge Ram 2500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers after much debate on coax vs. component AND best value for the price. I finally settled on these based on the following reasons: 1. The price is great for med-quality 6x9. 2. The tweeter sizes are slightly larger than most. 3. They are marine grade and RAM doors tend to leak after a while. 4. If you have the factory Infinity system, you really don't need components as the dash speakers will serve as your 'tweeter' and these Polk's provide great mid to low end. They fit perfectly with the provided trim ring, no modifications necessary. I did use an aftermarket amp and I would highly recommend this. I paired these with Polk db651 in the rear doors, MTX Thunder35 in the dash, and Pioneer x6800 deck. Overall GREAT sound and now I have bluetooth for phone conversations. Loud enough to hear clearly over custom exhaust and loud tires when driving down the road. Great for tailgating while parked, especially with the bluetooth control and access to Pandora.

Pros: Great sound. Great fit for Ram 2500 front doors. Marine grade in case your doors leak.

Cons: None.

1999 Buick Regal
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First time DIY on speaker install. Replaced rear speakers in my 1999 Buick Regal when one of the stock speakers stopped working. The instructions were spot on and the speakers fit perfectly just as Crutchfield suggested. I've noticed sounds in the music I've been listening to that I previously had not heard. The bass wasn't impressive but I wasn't expecting much because I had read the reviews. I bought these speakers when they were on sale and feel like I got great deal.

Pros: Clarity

Cons: Bass

2015 Jeep Renegade
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to go in the front doors of my new Jeep Renegade. The stock speakers didn't sound right. I was advised not to get these as they might not fit right, but Crutchfield measures all the parameters and the holes matched up with the door, but the tweeter stood out a little too far. After putting them in, they actually do fit quite well and the tweeter part does not hit the inside of the stock cover. The sound, even from the stock stereo, is great! I did attach the 150 Hz bass blockers so the bass wouldn't hit too low for them. I also installed subwoofers.

Pros: sound, clarity, fit, loudness with stock stereo

Cons: speakers are awesome! Taking the doors apart was tricky.

Awesome speakers. Sound great. Excellent build quality. Besides the great sound I always enjoy from Polk speakers one of the features that helped me decide to buy was the fairly subdued grills. Replaced the tired factory speakers in my 98 Chrysler Cirrus with these in the back. I had always been surprised that the stock speakers had the bass that they did, but boy did they suck in the mids and highs. These Polk DXi691's are awesome sounding! The mids and highs are back, and the bass while not sub level, is very respectable. I was not looking to blow the windows out with bass, and find the tonal balance to be spot on. I have long been a fan of Polk speakers and these do not disappoint.

Pros: Wonderful highs and miss, and well balanced hard hitting bass.

Replacement for stock vehicle speakers. Crutchfield customer service was very helpful in answering all my questions prior to purchasing these speakers.

Cons: None.

Excellent sound but does NOT fit

Written by: AllenB from Birmingham, AL on December 29, 2014

Bought these for the front doors on a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. Although Crutchfield advisor and Crutchfield.com both said they would fit. They indeed did not. The speaker frames were too large to fit in the factory hole, so I had to do some modifying to make them fit (hammered the hole to be larger). Although no noticeable bass difference between these and factory speakers, the mid and treble on these sounds wonderful! Would purchase again, but being more wary to make sure they are an exact fit.

Pros: Good mid and high response.

Cons: No bass difference between factory and these. Somewhat larger speaker basket, and did not fit even though confirmed beforehand that they would.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was commissioned by a friend to revamp his 05 Malibu's sound system. Good move, sir. Because rule #1. Every factory sound system needs replacing (sorry BOSE, that means you too! I have to say I'm a bigger fan of your marketing techniques than your sound). That being said, I'm not the type of person who wants to see how much bass can I fit into my car before the windshield gasket fails, but I like to configure any car with a system that sounds most accurate. There's a big word for everyone to stop under-appreciating. I like giving every frequency in songs I hear their own respected space, or at least a fair chance! And getting loud doesn't hurt, but it's not my primary objective. The Polk Audio DXi691 fit inline with my goal. They give some good punch in the low-mid to mid range and sound clean and crisp in the mid-high to high range. Low end is lacking, but that's what subwoofers are for, people! It also fell within budget for the build. So really, I have nothing to complain about except for the fact that auto manufacturers are still producing cars with 6 x 9 drivers in the first place, but that's a different rant for a different day...

Pros: These things look sweet and cover a huge range of frequencies. I love polk...

Cons: 6 x 9 speakers are like the awkward kid at the dance. Nobody really invited them, but they're always going to be there...

Sound is clear and bass works much better than my stock speakers. If Crutchfield recommends you to purchase a mounting bracket, make sure you look for one online because it'll save a lot of headaches trying to make them fit.

Pros: Easy to install Great sound quality

Cons: Didn't fit my car perfectly so I had to purchase mounting bracket. Not much of a con but would've been nice if Crutchfield also sent me the bracket so I wouldn't have to spend time looking for one.

DXi691 Review

Written by: Macpin from Honolulu, HI on July 25, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polk Audio DXi691 is an excellent marine certified set of car audio speakers. Living on an island warrants the need to have this amount of resilience to the environment. The DXi691 speakers are very crisp in the highs and solid in the mid bass frequencies. To get the most out of these speakers, I strongly recommend a head unit with more than 3 integrated digital equalizers. The DXi691's 3-way setup will sound brighter and more dynamic. Its lowest frequency is rated at 35Hz which I heard after the break-in period. I mounted them in properly soundproofed doors of my Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab. It takes a lot to reach 35Hz so I recommend adding an enclosed marine certified subwoofer to achieve the lower bas frequencies. The DXi691 speakers are a great replacement of factory speakers. The sensitivity rating is over 90 dB which means you really need to have those equalizers to better tune to your liking.

Pros: Great sound and frequency range for highs and mid bass.

Cons: Head unit needs to have an equalizer with more than 3 bands to better tune to your liking. Recommend adding an enclosed subwoofer to cover the lower bas frequencies.

Sounds great, but really require an amplifier if installing with a factory or even aftermarket head unit as the system will sound underpowered. After I installed an amp, the sound from the DXi691s is clear, balanced and plenty loud. Definitely worth the investment, but make sure to save some money for an amp if you're replacing a factory system

Pros: Great high and mids, bass is adequate, plenty of volume

2004 Oldsmobile Alero
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

(1st off let me just say, If you're looking for bass that will blow your ear drums out go buy an Amp and some Subs. These will not do it all by themselves.) - Testing for review. Bought these in the beginning of Feb, its now Mid March. Doing great so far. I Think I broke them in enough already. In my '04 Olds Alero I was looking to upgrade from stock speakers because mine blew out a couple months ago. I was doing the shop-around for quite some time. Then I found these. These 3-ways are phenomenal for the price at Crutchfield. These are a really great choice because of the clarity at any volume. Mind you, I've only tried these with my aftermarket stereo system (JVC KWHDR720). These bring the highs in nicely (you can hear things that you never heard before), the mids are solid (the clarity doesn't get better than these) and the lows are great (considering I don't have subs), if you have and equalizer like I do then you can definitely make these sound the way you want them to. I still get people looking my way. You don't know what you're missing until you get a nice 3-way. ***** Must get the DXi461p***** compliments these well

Pros: - with the provided harness, these are a breeze to install. no cutting/stripping wires, no soldering. Just unclip stock speakers, attach harness and clip on the new speakers. BOOM! - perfect fit, no need for modification - no subs, no rattling, no problem. - nice clean all around sound

Cons: In "my car" it's a PITA to get at the rear deck other than that I CAN'T THINK OF ANY!!!! LEARNED FROM EXPERIENCE, don't raise the volume up all the way until you break in new speakers for a couple weeks (especially if you live in the bitter cold ***northern/midwest states***) you will blow your nice brand new speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these for my son's car, just turned 16, and they are worth every penny. They are hooked up to an after market Kenwood radio and a 125W x 2 pioneer amp ($200/$100...nothing real high end). The sound is crisp and the speakers are capable of handling any type of music. If you are looking for low, booming base then these are not for you, but if you want great sound, clarity and hard hitting base....perfect speaker. My son listens to Dubstep and he loves these speakers. Honestly, I can handle listening to dubstep through these as well. Crutchfield advisors were dead on in recommending our set up.

Pros: Crisp, distinct sound. Sound great at any volume level

Cons: None that I can think of

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to replace the stock front door speakers in my 2006 2500 Dodge Ram Mega Cab. These were recommended as a good fit from Crutchfield. I was torn between component's and these. I haven't had 6x9's since I was a kid, so I was a bit skeptical. But I am really impressed with these speakers. The install was straight forward. But they do fit a little awkward in the doors. The magnet is so much larger than stock I was afraid it would hit the glass but it does fit without issue. Once installed and door panels back on cranked it up. The sounds was far better than stock. Much better sounding high's and mid's. The bass from them is also ok, but we all know 6x9's aren't pass monsters. But overall these speakers to an excellent job with all the music I listen to from metal, rock and roll to an occasional rap venture. I would definitely recommend.

Pros: Great high's and mid's.

Cons: Bass is lacking but they are 6x9's

(it was time, trust me) The new ones sound great but sitting in the garage with the battery charger hooked up is not a proper test. The real test will be if they can be heard while I'm at the strip drag racing,,,,,,,

Features

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance, Bi-Laminate composite, polypropylene cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio, resulting in faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses rubber surrounds.

Tweeters: The DXi 691s feature a 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter and a 3/4" aluminum dome super tweeter for clear, accurate highs. The tweeters employ light-weight neodymium magnets for higher efficiency.
