It's a bold, rich, warm, and lifelike sound.

3D Audio: Polk Audio's 3D Audio combines two groundbreaking, patented technologies to produce a three-dimensional audio environment. • Polk Digital Logic: The Polk Audio F/X Wireless Surround Speaker utilizes Polk Digital Logic (Polk's proprietary DSP programming) to deliver big, crisp sonic performance with no complicated setup or calibration. The Room Position DSP Controller lets you place the wireless surround speaker on the floor, a sofa table, or wall-shelf; while delivering perfect imaging and sound.

Note: Due to the special nature of the F/X Wireless Surround Speaker's operating principles, it is recommended that you do not use the automated speaker calibration system of your AV receiver.

Scan Button: The wireless surround speaker features a bottom-panel 'Scan' button and the wireless surround transmitter features a top-panel 'Scan' button. The 'Scan' button establishes a wireless connection between the wireless surround speaker and wireless surround module. This should take less than 30 seconds.

Connections

2.4GHz Transmitter: The system's wireless surround module features an integrated state-of-the-art 2.4GHz transmitter which wirelessly transmits your home theater receiver's surround and surround back audio to the wireless powered speaker without any signal loss.

Audio Connections: The included wireless surround module connects to your home theater receiver's surround or surround back channels via RCA cables or speaker wire.

  • RCA: The wireless surround module is equipped with two sets of RCA preamp inputs. One is labeled 'Surround' and the other 'Surround Back'. Two 4' lengths of stereo RCA cable are provided.
  • Speaker-Level: The wireless surround module is equipped with four pair of spring-clip speaker terminals. Two pair are labeled 'Surround' and the other two pair labeled 'Surround Back'. Four 46" lengths of speaker wire are provided.

Note: You may make either a speaker-level or RCA connection, but never make both connections at the same time.

5.1ch/7.1ch Options: If you have a 5.1-channel AV receiver, connect the Left & Right Surround channels of  your receiver to the wireless surround transmitter's Surround inputs. If you are using a 7.1 channel home theater receiver, connect both the Left & Right Surround and the Left & Right Surround Back channels to the wireless surround transmitter's Surround and Surround Back input.

Note: Your receiver's Surround and Surround Back channels should be set to 'Small' (when applicable).

Mounting Options

Wireless Surround Speaker Placement: The F/X Wireless Surround Speaker should be placed behind your home theater room's listening area (on the floor, placed on a table, or on an elevated open shelf) and up to 30' from the wireless surround transmitter.

Note: Make sure to set the Room Position DSP Controller to 'Shelf, 'Table', or 'Floor" to match the wireless surround speaker's placement.

Wireless Surround Speaker Positioning: Due to the special nature of the wireless speaker's complex radiation pattern, the top surface of the loudspeaker cabinet should be unobstructed and facing towards the ceiling. The long axis of the cabinet should be parallel to the long dimension of your home theater's TV screen and centered behind the listening area.

Wireless Surround Speaker Distance: There is a Speaker Distance Chart in the owner's manual to help you set your AV receiver's Surround and Surround Back channel speaker distance to match the placement of the F/X Wireless Surround Speaker.

Bad product and Polk does not stand behind it.

Written By BL of RI, East Greenwich, RI on Wednesday, October 10, 2012

I purchased this product and the 1st day I hooked it up I had problems that others have mentioned in their reviews. Specifically loud popping and hissing noises coming from unit and it failing to shut down when power to amp was turned off. I contacted support and told them the issue and they sent me a new wireless transmitter unit.

After several weeks of use, I still was getting the popping and hissing noises and contacted support again. They asked me to try and eliminate any and all things that could be interfering w/ the wireless uniit. i.e. Routers and other wireless devices.

Long story short, due to business travel and emails back and forth over a period of about 80+ days I was not able to get things resolved and contacted support (keep in mind, I am dealing w/ same person each time I respond) and told them I had tried everything but I still continue to get popping from unit and it fails to recognize when signal is lost. I was then told because I had gone past 90 days, I now would have to send in unit, at my expense for evaluation/repair.

I asked Polk to reconsider this and requested they send me a new unit and I would return this one in the box they sent the new one in. However, they ignored my email request and I had to follow up with them again to ask if they would please reconsider this and send me a new unit. They just responded that they will not.

So, I reluctantly will send this junk back and hope that it gets fixed. However, I will not ever purchase from Polk

Good, but not good enough

Written By RobM, Miami, FL on Monday, March 14, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had high hopes for the Polk F/X but was disappointed. The F/X was easy to install and had a great feel to it. The transmitter box was cheaply made and the speaker wire connectors were also cheaply made. At low volume the unit fails to operate, and you are reminded by constant digital sounds emitting from the unit.

PROS:
Easy to install.
When it works it does feel like a complete 7.1 rear setup.

CONS:
Does not work at low volume.
Strange digital noises at random intervals.
Cracking and popping when connecting.
Cheap transmitter box.
Speakers sound cheap.

Not ready for prime time

Written By GK, Hampton, NJ on Tuesday, February 08, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The concept and the sound quality are very good, but the control system needs
redesign. It muted the speaker at low surround sound levels. Before doing so, the
speaker gives a buzzing noise for several seconds then goes out with two beeps. One
unit was defective, not only went into mute, but also went into sleep mode, from which it
came back with a noisy bang. The second did not have that issue, but still was cutting in
and out with the annoying buzz and beeps and uncalled-for variation is sorrund sound.
Eventually I had to bite the bullet and pull in the wires. Thanks to Crutchfield, it did not
cost me restocking fee or extra shipping.

Polk Audio F/X® Wireless Surround

Written By gelf47, Burnsville, MN on Monday, January 31, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speaker works great for DVDs, but with broadcast tv it shuts down
when there is a lapse in surround signal and when it gets signal again it makes
a loud popping sound when it comes back on. Very annoying. Have read some posts
on Polk Audio's forum and other people are having the same problem. Also, they
are very loud and there is no way to turn them down. They sometimes drown out
the front speakers.

Not ready for prime time

Written By GlenH, California on Wednesday, January 26, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product has the potential to great but not yet. Installation was extremely simple as expected and it worked right out of the box. I then popped Avatar into my Blu Ray player and cranked up the volume. As far as the overall performance and sound I would give it 5 stars. The problem starts when you turn down the volume. When you are watching non action scenes and the voltage to the speaker drops below 20 Millivolts the speaker "times out." When this happens you here a popping noise or in my case a fazer type sound which is very annoying. I joined the Polk Audio discussion forum and found I'm not the only person complaining about this problem. What Polk Audio needs to do is make it so the speaker will only time out when there is no input for say 15 minutes. If they make this change then I will purchase it again and give it 5 stars.

Wireless not there, yet, even for this price

Written By JD, Baton Rouge, LA on Tuesday, January 25, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polk Audio F/X Wireless Surround System lives up to its advertising as a convenient way to provide surround sound in an environment where a wired connection is either too unsightly or too physically challenging. The amplified sound fills the room and provides the background needed to enable one to fully enjoy a Blue Ray movie or a HD broadcast. As with other wireless speakers, however, there are trade offs. The link between the speaker and transmitter can and will fail, typically with a resounding pop (when this first occurred, my wife thought the speaker had exploded!). The link can be delayed resulting in a sudden burst of sound 15-30 seconds into a viewing. Whether these flaws are heightened by the presence of other wireless devices, such as an AT&T U-verse router, is a debatable question. The annoying problems with the wireless link finally became too irritating and I returned the system to Crutchfield and have begun to reconsider wired speakers for my odd-shaped room. Apparently wireless just isn't there yet for reliable, quality sound, no matter the price. One area which Polk Audio controls and needs to improve is the manual. The very concise manual does not inform the owner that the link remains intact for 10-20 minutes after your AV-Receiver/TV/Blue Ray is shut down. Nor does it mention that, according to a Polk Audio Service Rep, it should never be necessary to have a hard (unplug/shut off/relink) start up.
