About the Polk Audio LC80fx
Bring your favorite movie soundtracks to life with Polk's LC80fx. These versatile, high-performance surround speakers use the same sophisticated technologies that have made Polk's critically acclaimed LSi loudspeakers so successful. High-quality construction keeps the drivers in rigid alignment, and virtually eliminates sound-muddying resonance. Each speaker boasts two advanced tweeters that deliver smooth, extended highs with impressive detail. Polk engineered the woofer to provide clear, precise midrange and bass. Plus, the LC80fx installs directly in your ceiling for a clean-looking setup.
Solid/Diffuse switch for more sound control
This pair offers more placement flexibility than conventional in-ceiling speakers you can choose from two modes to get the best-sounding surround effects in your room. "Solid" mode produces clear, directional sound that lets you pinpoint the location of certain rear-channel effects within your home theater's soundstage. "Diffuse" mode spreads the sound out, giving you broader, more enveloping surround effects.
Create a hidden home theater with the LC80fx and other LC in-ceiling speakers, plus a CSW in-wall or in-floor subwoofer. You can also can also combine the LC80fx with LSi free-standing speakers.
An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the LC80fx in a home with new construction.

Features
Dynamic Balance Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.
Angled Woofer: The LC80FX is equipped with an 8" Aerated Polypropylene woofer, loaded into the frame at a fixed 15° angle. This allows you to direct the woofer toward the listening area when used for front stage (Left, Center, or Right) speakers. When used as rear surrounds or as 6.1 or 7.1 channel surround back speakers, you can direct the driver toward the listening area for a more direct sound field, or toward a wall for a more diffuse sound field.
Dual Tweeters: Each speaker has dual 3/4" Ring Radiator tweeters for crisp, transparent highs. The ultra-light woven Ring Radiator Diaphragm delivers flat response, precise detail and overall accuracy. A High Frequency Waveguide prevents phase cancellations for smooth, uniform frequency response and wide dispersion. A Low Frequency Waveguide promotes laminar airflow between chambers to prevent air turbulence. This feature serves the same function as Power Port for Polk's bass systems. The tweeters are angled 90° away from each other.
Timbre-matched: The speaker is timbre-matched to the Polk Audio LCi Series for seamless, enveloping imaging when used in a home theater system. You can mix and match any of the LCi-series in-wall and in-ceiling speakers with the LCi Series high performance floor-standing and bookshelf speakers.
Terminals: The speaker features gold-plated spring post terminals.
Wiring Recommendations: The gauge of the speaker wire used to connect this speaker depends upon the length of the run:
- Lengths of up to 25': 18 or 16 gauge
- Lengths between 25' to 50': 16 or 14 gauge
- Lengths between 50' and 75': 14 or 12 gauge
- Lengths of over 75': 12 gauge
Controls
Imaging Switch: The LC80FX offers switchable "Solid" and "Diffuse" imaging patterns to create the surround effect you desire. A "Diffuse" image is defined as one which creates a "cloud" of sound, as ambient sounds fill the environment around the listening area. A "Solid" image is one which creates a more directional, localized, pin-point sound.
Wall Distance Switch: It is recommended that the speaker be placed more than 2' from a side wall. If position limitations demand than they be installed less than 2' from a side wall, the proximity of the surface can result in a response "bump" between 50Hz and 200Hz, causing the speaker to sound "boomy." The Wall Distance switch flattens response and tunes out the "boominess" without sacrificing deep bass response.
Mounting Options
Installation: The speaker requires a cutout diameter of 9-3/8" with a depth of 4-5/8" assuming 1/2" drywall. Once the hole is cut, the speaker can be held in place and the Rotating Cams can be tightened, allowing you to secure the speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly. If you will not be mounting the speaker in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speaker before installation; the speaker weighs approximately 4 pounds.
Paintable: The grille and flange can be painted, allowing the speaker to match any décor. A clear plastic paint mask is included to protect the "unpaintable" speaker parts.
