Dynamic Balance Technology:
Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to
determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of
resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response
and low distortion.
Dual Midranges: The speaker has
dual 5-1/4" Dynamic Balance, aerated polypropylene midrange drivers for clean,
distortion-free midrange. The midrange drivers use rubber surrounds.
Cascade Tapered Array:
The midranges are aligned in a Cascade
Tapered Array, in which one driver plays only bass frequencies, and the other
bass and midrange, for broad, even sound coverage for off-axis listeners.
Tweeter: The speaker uses a 1"
Ring Radiator tweeter for crisp, transparent highs. The ultra-light woven Ring
Radiator Diaphragm delivers flat response, precise detail and overall accuracy.
A High Frequency Waveguide prevents phase cancellations for smooth, uniform
frequency response and wide dispersion. A Low Frequency Waveguide promotes
laminar airflow between chambers to prevent air turbulence. This feature serves
the same function as Power Port for Polk's bass systems. The ball-and-socket
swivel mount lets you aim the tweeter in any direction to give you direct
high-frequency control, resulting in excellent imaging even for off-axis
Infinite Baffle Tuning:
Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior
Timbre-matched: The speaker is
timbre-matched to the Polk Audio LCi Series for seamless, enveloping imaging
when used in a home theater system. You can mix and match any of the LCi-series
in-wall and in-ceiling speakers with the LCi Series high performance
floor-standing and bookshelf speakers.
Terminals: The speaker features
gold-plated spring post terminals.
Wiring Recommendations: The
gauge of the speaker wire used to connect this speaker depends upon the length
of the run:
- Lengths of up to 25': 18
or 16 gauge
- Lengths between 25' to 50':
16 or 14 gauge
- Lengths between 50' and 75':
14 or 12 gauge
- Lengths of over 75': 12
Tweeter Attenuator: If the
listening room is very reflective, with smooth sheetrock walls, hardwood
floors, and non-cushioned furniture, the sound will overly "bright" and
unnatural. In this case, you can engage the LCi -3 dB Tweeter Attenuator
(select the "Cut" setting) to flatten the room response without hindering
higher frequency response for warmer, more realistic sound and more accurate
imaging. The Tweeter Attenuator control is located on the speaker's front
Installation: The speaker
requires a cutout 13-1/8" wide and 7-5/8" high with a depth of 3-1/2"
1/2" drywall. Once the hole is cut, the speaker can be dropped in and the
Rotating Cams can be tightened, allowing you to secure the speaker to the
drywall without any extra assembly. If you will not be mounting the speaker in
drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of
the speaker before installation; the speaker weighs approximately 8-1/2 pounds.
Paintable: The grille and
flange can be painted, allowing the speaker to match any décor.
A clear plastic paint mask is included to protect the "unpaintable" speaker
- Overall: 30 Hz-27 kHz
- +/-3 dB Limit: 45 Hz-26 kHz
