Polk Audio MM1040--Outstanding
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Ease of Use
Replaced a pair of JL 10W0v3's with these in my 2013 Tacoma doublecab. Anyone who has this truck understands there is not much space or depth to work with behind the back seat, so I am forced to use subs with shallow mounting depth. The 10W0's were good, but their low sensitivity and lack of preciseness left a little to be desired. Tried JL 10W1's--terrible performance in my particular set up (.75 cu ft per sub sealed, running off an Alpine PDR-V75, getting 175 watts RMS each at 2 ohm); very weak and "sputtery", no punch whatsoever. Saw the Polk's, with their higher sensitivity and power handling, spoke with Brandy, one of the Crutchfield advisors (excellent customer service), and thought these might be a more potent option. Absolutely. These subs, in the exact same set up as the 10W0's--same box, same amp settings, same EQ set up, same crossover points--are heads and shoulders above the JL's. The lows, the punch, the clarity, the loudness are all much better when played at the same volume. Please understand, I'm not saying the JL's, W0's or W1's, are bad subs, they are just significantly outperformed by the MM1040's in my particular set up. There's absolutely no comparison. And they've only been in my truck for 2 days, they're not even broken in yet. These are outstanding subs; well worth the money. Thanks Brandy, and thanks Crutchfield. Always a pleasure.
Pros: Excellent lows, sound quality, and clarity, even at low volume/wattage
