Our take on the Polk/MOMO MM2104

Polk and accessories specialist MOMO have joined together to create the high-performance Polk/MOMO subs. These stylish subs deliver powerful, accurate bass that sets you apart from the pack — both sonically and visually.

The Polk/MOMO MM2104 10" subwoofer features a polypropylene concave "dish" cone, metalized for maximum rigidity. A huge, high-roll butyl rubber surround controls longer cone excursion for high-impact bass with lower distortion. State-of-the-art laser technology centers the voice coil perfectly in the motor structure's magnetic field for optimized performance.

These high-impact subs feature a triple venting system for maximum air flow, power handling, and reliability. Gaskets on the front and the back of the basket insure an airtight installation. This subwoofer is designed for use in a small, sealed enclosure.

Don't limit yourself to only using these subs in your car — they've passed tough environmental testing that certifies them for marine use as well.

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Marine Certified: Polk/MOMO Series speakers are built to withstand exposure to moisture and UV rays, so they work well in boats and cars.

Metalized Polypropylene Woofer Cone: This woofer features an ultra-stiff metalized polypropylene Dynamic Balance cone for massive bass. Its Dish Cone design is mechanically supported by a unique Vented Cone Coupler. This support increases the sub's axial rigidity.

Rubber Surround: The cone uses a durable, airtight rubber surround for a long life of extended linear motion.

Stamped Steel Basket: The acoustically inert stamped steel basket offers lower distortion.

NOMEX Spider: The huge, fire-retardant flat NOMEX spider allows extended linear motion while providing highly reliable mechanical and thermal stability.

Klippel Measurement Technology: State-of-the-art laser-based Klippel measurement technology perfectly centers the subwoofer's voice coil in the magnetic field, improving X-max and BL linearity, and the sub's micro and macro dynamics, for deep, precise bass.

Triple Vented: The vented coil/cone coupler, vented spider platform, and vented pole piece all allow cooling air to freely flow over the heat-generating components and better harness all the watts your amp can dish out.

Rubber Magnet Boot: The removable rubber magnet boot provides additional damping and deeper installation flexibility. With the magnet boot removed, the woofer has the following dimensions:

  • Magnet Diameter: 5.528"
  • Depth as top: 5.379"
  • Depth as bottom: 5.843"
Terminals: The woofer has professional grade nickel-plated push terminals that will accept bare wire and pin connectors.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Polk recommends using this woofer in a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.66 cu/ft.

Box Correction

Power Handling: The box incorrectly states that the woofer can handle up to 125 watts RMS and 300 watts peak. In fact, the woofer can handle up to 300 watts RMS and 600 watts peak.

Cutout Diameter Correction

Cutout Diameter Correction: Page 7 of the manuals included with the initial production runs of this woofer lists incorrect cutout diameter specifications; mounting holes cut using the specifications on page 7 will be too large for the woofers. The correct cutout specifications are listed on page 10 of the manual; on page 10, the cutout diameter is called "Mounting diameter".

Ohhhh yeahhhhhhh

Written By My_Fast, Philadelphia, PA on Monday, June 28, 2010

Sounds great. Had a pair of these and worked great for heavier music such as metal
and every variation of it. Works great as a pair especially for double bass drums and
quick kick drums. Has the fast response you want with the low hard hitting thump you
need.
Definitely recommend.
Polk just rocks.

Fantastic Performance and Value

Written By Alexander, Long Pond, PA on Tuesday, February 24, 2009

These subs are not just good looking they sound fantastic. The build quality is top notch and the sound is powerful and clear. I bought two of them to compliment four Polk db Series series speakers. This is my first time purchasing Polk products and I'm happily impressed.

Exceptional sound for the price!

Written By Christopher, Charlotte, NC on Saturday, February 21, 2009

I have 4 Polk 5 1/4 speakers and they sounded ok, but had no bass. I wired up 2 ten inch subs in a cabinet behind my truck seat. Man, these puppys rock. I put the sesitivity at the middle and still had to turn the head unit bass and bass boost off. I still have to lower the sensitivity more. I am powering these with a Kenwood 300W RMS. Like I said, for this price you will not go wrong. I would have paid twice the price for these speakers. Jump on these for this price a pair, you will be set for many hours of clean bass!

Upgrade

Written By Tony, Wesley Chapel, FL on Wednesday, February 18, 2009

I upgraded from 2 10", and WOW!! what a difference. I had a friend calibrate it for me, and these subs sound awesome. One thing I noticed off the bat was the tightness of the bass. This makes songs with alot of bass sound really amazing. You ride down the street with a smile on your face :) With this price you can't go wrong. I don't know too much about subs, BUT I do know these hit. Perfect if you want some boom!!

Good buy

Written By Kareem, New York, NY on Thursday, January 15, 2009

These subs are magnificent. I would have given them a five star rating.
But, the power handling stopped me. I have a pair in the trunk of my S430
in a sealed box. I'm running them wired parallel at 2 ohms, on a class D
amplifier at about turned up about 1/4 the way with two 1 Farad
capacitors. The bass I get from these subs is tight and clean. In this big
sedan I am very impressed. No distortion what so ever.

Best subs i've used yet!

Written By Sean, Johnstown, PA on Thursday, October 30, 2008

I was looking for some new subs after one of my old one's blew. I have used kicker and mtx in the past and these are way better. I am so glad I got these. They are run off of a kicker zx300.1 which is putting out about 400 watts. The sealed sound is perfect for my style of music, which includes: Rock, metal, industrial, techno, and mellow stuff like Incubus, Moby, etc. I also listen to alot of christian music like Skillet, Jars of Clay, Argyle Park, etc. Perfect subs for the money. My system also includes a Kenwood excelon headdeck, infinity kappa components and a kicker zx200.4 amp.

VERY GOOD [THUMBS UP]

Written By Michael, Seattle, WA on Friday, June 06, 2008

These woofers are very good. I listen to all types of music and they sound great. I have them in a sealed box that is .75 cu ft each side, with the basket displacement its the perfect size. Running off a 500x1 @ 2 ohms mono block in my 2001 M3 wired into the OEM HK system. They pound, they hit and play all ranges of bass very well. I dont get the most lower bass 30hz and below but that is to be expected though. I would recommed these over Kicker Comp, RF Stage 1 or even the JLW1. I have had many woofers in my time and these are by far the best bang for the buck. I would put these up against woofers that cost more and I think they would still hang. I am very happy. Thank you Polk and Crutchfield!

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
