Our take on the Polk/MOMO MM2124

Polk and accessories specialist MOMO have joined together to create the high-performance Polk/MOMO subs. These stylish subs deliver powerful, accurate bass that sets you apart from the pack — both sonically and visually.

The Polk/MOMO MM2124 12" subwoofer features a polypropylene concave "dish" cone, metalized for maximum rigidity. A huge, high-roll butyl rubber surround controls longer cone excursion for high-impact bass with lower distortion. State-of-the-art laser technology centers the voice coil perfectly in the motor structure's magnetic field for optimized performance.

These high-impact subs feature a triple venting system for maximum air flow, power handling, and reliability. Gaskets on the front and the back of the basket insure an airtight installation. This subwoofer is designed for use in a small, sealed enclosure.

Don't limit yourself to only using these subs in your car — they've passed tough environmental testing that certifies them for marine use as well.

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Marine Certified: Polk/MOMO Series speakers are built to withstand exposure to moisture and UV rays, so they work well in boats and cars.

Metalized Polypropylene Woofer Cone: This woofer features an ultra-stiff metalized polypropylene Dynamic Balance cone for massive bass. Its Dish Cone design is mechanically supported by a unique Vented Cone Coupler. This support increases the sub's axial rigidity.

Rubber Surround: The cone uses a durable, airtight rubber surround for a long life of extended linear motion.

Stamped Steel Basket: The acoustically inert stamped steel basket offers lower distortion.

NOMEX Spider: The huge, fire-retardant flat NOMEX spider allows extended linear motion while providing highly reliable mechanical and thermal stability.

Klippel Measurement Technology: State-of-the-art laser-based Klippel measurement technology perfectly centers the subwoofer's voice coil in the magnetic field, improving X-max and BL linearity, and the sub's micro and macro dynamics, for deep, precise bass.

Triple Vented: The vented coil/cone coupler, vented spider platform, and vented pole piece all allow cooling air to freely flow over the heat-generating components and better harness all the watts your amp can dish out.

Rubber Magnet Boot: The removable rubber magnet boot provides additional damping and deeper installation flexibility. With the magnet boot removed, the woofer has the following dimensions:

  • Magnet Diameter: 5.508"
  • Depth as top: 6.252"
  • Depth as bottom: 6.803"
Terminals: The woofer has professional grade nickel-plated push terminals that will accept bare wire and pin connectors.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Polk recommends using this woofer in a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.88 cu/ft.

Box Correction

Power Handling: The box incorrectly states that the woofer can handle up to 125 watts RMS and 300 watts peak. In fact, the woofer can handle up to 400 watts RMS and 800 watts peak.

Cutout Diameter Correction

Cutout Diameter Correction: Page 7 of the manuals included with the initial production runs of this woofer lists incorrect cutout diameter specifications; mounting holes cut using the specifications on page 7 will be too large for the woofers. The correct cutout specifications are listed on page 10 of the manual; on page 10, the cutout diameter is called "Mounting diameter".

Great Sub for the Money

Written By Sam D, Chicago on Thursday, September 01, 2011

This is a great sub for the cash. I have it installed on my boat with 6 ½" speakers in the hull and 4x6" on the tower and it sounds great! Puts just the right amount of bass to fill in the low end and make the system sound complete. But if you crank up the system, it will bump HARD! I have it powered with the Polk Audio 5 channel amp and it sounds pretty dang good. It definitely comes alive with a good amp in a solid enclosure. Overall, great sub for the price.

Great Sub for the Price

Written By Matt, Houston, TX on Friday, May 08, 2009

These are great subs thus far. The only reason that rated them 4 is because I consider JLW7's a 5-star sub. Very crisp sounding, but does it really matter, because these are disco'd.

Great sub!

Written By paul, Lothian, MD on Friday, March 13, 2009

I waited for over a month to write a review to make sure it would be accurate. Crutchfield offerred an exceptional closeout deal on these subs. At first I felt their performance was marginal, they were breaking in. My sealed box volume was also 1.25 cubic feet. I reduced internal volume to the recommended .88 and did they hit! Im running them off my amp underated at 300w/RMS per channel. I hit them full power for extended periods and they are strong.

A MOMO can blow!!!!

Written By jamie, Hattiesburg, MS on Friday, February 20, 2009

I dont want any other sub! This is the wind within. Polk made a woofer that does whatever you want it to do. Couldn't be better. Immediately I installed them to see just what I have been waiting on for a long time. I was really amazed at what I experianced. The Polk MOMO produces some of the most powerful sounding bass that I have heard from an original shaped woofer. Im very proud of my Polk MOMO "12 subwoofers!

Would buy again

Written By Miguel, Sacramento, CA on Monday, November 24, 2008

I have been very pleased with these subs. I have them in a sealed enclosure that is smaller than I would desire, however they pound harder than any other subs I've tried. Warrantee is exceptional as well, you can't beat three year coverage.

Polk/MOMO MM2124

Written By Dave, Sacramento, CA on Tuesday, May 01, 2007

I installed the Polk MM2124 into a custom box i built to my design specs. My box is .88cf and less than a 1/2 lb of poly-fill.

This thing really kicks! I installed it in my new ford ranger. Paired it with the Infinity Reference 611a Amplifier which is rated at 456watts RMS.

Im extremely pleased with the results. The only downside is that the mounting bracket is indeed plastic. (who thought that up?) Other than that this thing can really pack some power. I really didnt want to go with a dual sub setup again, Tuned using a bass test track cd.

does not deserve 5 Stars

Written By Josh, Las Vegas, NV on Friday, December 15, 2006

I have blown this woofer twice now - I had it warrantied and now the voice coil is disconnected from the diaphragm and no continuity in the voice coil.. The speaker had very good SQ, but it just needs to hold up more.

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
