Excellent speakers, Crutchfield's fitment guide is wrong
2004 Pontiac Grand Prix
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
These speakers are excellent! I've got the mm6501's in my front doors and the mm691's in the rear powered by a Polk PAD4000.4 amp with a pioneer 4100NEX receiver in the dash and I've never heard such great music in any other car. I've got the amp gain set at 4 volts, crossovers off, with the speakers crossovers set at 0 and the 13 band EQ in my receiver all set flat except the 60 and 100hz sliders at -6db, and my sub amps also set to 4 volt gains, low pass crossovers at 100hz and bass boost at +6db to compensate for the EQ being turned down to -6 for the mm speakers. My system hits and is loud and clear. I love it! BTW for bass I'm running 2 alpine mrv-m500s pushing on 2 alpine 12in sws-12d2 subs. Subs are wired for 1ohm and each amp is 1 ohm stable at 500 watts rms.. the subs sound great and hit hard if I turn the level up on my receiver to 0, normally it's at -4.. I truly believe I've got the perfect system.. Now About Crutchfield's Fitment Guide, the tweeters were the easiest to install using the surface mount cups and popping the metal screen off the door panel that covered the stock tweeters, it comes off easy and can be reused if going back to stock, the crossovers fit right next to the power mirror wires where they go thru to the mirrors but I had to leave the covers off. The woofer, oh my! Suppose to drop right in but no way! I had to dremal the plastic around each speaker between the 4 screw holes, I Better have a warranty still
Pros: Everything about these speakers and polk in general! These replaced dxi6501's and dxi691's I previously put in the car. The dxi speakers sound pretty good but they are more for a lower powered amp or no amp although the pad4000.4 did have em sounding good, but these mobile monitors are way better! Hands down, if your buying polk and your going to use a good amp with 125 watts rms X4 then you need to get these!
Cons: Nothing with the speakers, but Crutchfield's fitment guide has been wrong on 2 of my cars so far. The dxi6501 and dxi691's are a drop in replacement in a 2004 grandprix... the mm691 fit fine in my car, but unless Crutchfield starts shipping a adapter bracket with the mm6501 speakers when a 2004 grand prix is selected as the car, they will not drop in without modifying the woofer, but the tweeter and crossovers on both systems fit fine and are darn near drop ins.Crutchfield response on July 20, 2016 Wayne, one of our tech support Advisors, reached out to Mark to discuss the fit issues he mentioned. And thanks to Mark's review, Wayne is following up with Crutchfield's vehicle research team to verify our information with the fit of the Polk speakers.
