Polk Audio engineers the MMC Series speakers for championship performance — legendary Italian design firm MOMO makes them look great. These upper-echelon coaxial speakers deliver component speaker sound quality in an easy-to-install, stylish package.

The Polk/MOMO MMC690 6"x9" 3-way speaker features a lacquered carbon-fiber woofer that provides the ideal balance of low weight and high rigidity. The woofer's Kapton voice coil former and flat Nomex spider contribute to high power handling capability. An airtight rubber surround stands up to humidity and heat for long-term reliability. The smooth-sounding 1-1/4" silk/polymer dome tweeter and 3/4" silk supertweeter combine for highly detailed imaging.

The vented cast-aluminum basket provides a totally non-resonant platform, so speaker output is uncolored. A high-quality outboard 2-way crossover ensures that each driver sees only the frequencies it was designed to reproduce. Dual nickel-plated terminals are provided for amplifying the woofer and tweeters separately.

The speaker's low-profile and shallow depth allow easy installation in most vehicles. And you don't have to limit these speakers to your car — they've passed tough environmental testing that certifies them for marine use as well. Rugged ABS grilles designed by MOMO are included.

Specifications Note

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Marine Certified: Polk/MOMO Series speakers are built to withstand exposure to moisture and UV rays, so they work well in boats and cars.

Lacquered Carbon-fiber Woofers: The lacquered carbon-fiber cones provide the ideal balance of stiffness and low mass for the clearest, most detailed midrange performance, and lowest distortion, of any speaker in its class.

Rubber Surrounds: The airtight rubber surrounds stand up to moisture, sunlight and extreme temperatures while allowing long excursion linear motion and years of reliable use.

1-1/4" Silk/Polymer Composite Tweeters: The 1-1/4" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite tweeters provide clear, detailed highs.

3/4" Silk Super Tweeters: In addition to the tweeters, each speaker features a 3/4" silk super tweeter.

Cast Aluminum Baskets: Each speaker has a channel-vented, acoustically inert cast aluminum basket for superior stiffness and better heat dissipation.

1-3/8" Kapton Voice Coils and Formers: Laser-based, Klippel-optimized, channel-vented 2-Layer 1-3/8" Kapton voice coils and formers offer high heat dissipation and extreme power handling.

NOMEX Spiders: The strong, fire-retardant flat NOMEX spiders allow extended linear motion while providing highly reliable mechanical and thermal stability.

Dual Nickel-plated Terminals: Each speaker has dual nickel-plated terminals for component-like connections.

ABS Magnet Boots: Each speaker features a waterproof, anti-resonant ABS magnet boot, which is removable for installation flexibility. With the magnet boots installed, each speaker has the following dimensions:

  • Magnet Diameter: 4.017"
  • Depth as top: 3.611"
  • Depth as bottom: 3.826"

Crossovers: The 2-way crossovers have big components for better dynamic impact and transparency. Each crossover has the following dimensions: L=4.721", W=2.458", H=1.033".

Crossover Connections: Each crossover input lead is terminated with tinned wire, and the two output leads (one for the woofer and one for the tweeter) are terminated with female quick-slides. The positive woofer lead has a 0.250" female quick-slide and the negative woofer lead has a 0.187" female quick-slide. The positive tweeter lead has a 0.187" female quick-slide and the negative tweeter lead has a 0.110" female quick-slide. These quick-slides connect directly to the woofer and tweeter terminals on each speaker.

Specifications Note

ABS Magnet Boots: Each speaker comes with an ABS magnet boot installed, however, the Crutchfield database measurements were taken with the magnet boots removed. With the magnet boots installed, each speaker has the following dimensions:

  • Magnet Diameter: 4.017"
  • Depth as top: 3.611"
  • Depth as bottom: 3.826"

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As always I am pleased with another Polk product.
The mmc 690 has robust bass respose and exellent treble, that is not at all harsh. Midrange is somewhat lacking, but that is what my db460s are for!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I waited a long time to replace the rear speakers in my 1997 Intrepid. Well, I got the car in 2005 with only 16,000 miles on it. But waiting paid off. Not only did this speakers come down in price, but the sound and low end punch are incredible! My mirrors and windows now vibrate to the bass! And with only my Pioneer 22 watt/per channell head unit that fits Chrysler openings. Very efficient. I was surprised to see the external cross over units for each speaker. I had to mount those up and out of the way in the trunk. Also, they are mounted under my rear deck cover. So, I may cut that out to increase the highs. But right now they rock. Get these, you won't be sorry!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was stationed in Germany 87- 90, where I bought a pair of Polk Audio SDA-CRS+ bookshelf speakers (250 watt). They blew away my old Pioneer 400 Watt speakers (I still like Pioneer). I put my new MMC690's in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 ext cab. They sound pretty close to those SDA's; I pump 240 watts RMS into em', and they will take it all day. These Polks are crystal clear even cranked up. I reach volume too loud to comfortably listen to before I hit distirtion. I drive them with a Clarion ADZ625, two 2000.4 amps and a pair of Polk Audio MM2124DVC"s (12") subs @ 500watts RMS. Now I spend most of my time in the truck, my concert hall on wheels. Thank you Polk Audio and Thank you Crutchfield, you made shopping a breeze.

Thin midrange

Written By MARK, Southern California on Sunday, February 01, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are very nicely built. They're quite heavy and they look and feel expensive. The bass is phenomenal with my stock Toyota stereo.

Unfortunately I found that vocals and some instrumentals sound rather "thin", lots of treble but not much "body", if that makes sense. I like to listen to classical music and a lot of the vocals and midrange instruments, like violins and trumpets, sound like all treble and no midrange, resulting in kind of a reedy or brassy sound, rather than a full, lifelike sound.

I replaced these with some Pioneer TS-G971M's. These are a lot lighter than the Polks, but still have good bass and excellent mids and highs -- very lifelike when listening to classical vocal and instrumental pieces.

The Polks might be better for you if you are into strong, thumping bass primarily. But if lifelike sound is what you want I would look elsewhere.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are some of the best speakers I've heard. Great sound and great high power handling. I have these on a R.F.450.4 These things scream. Make sure you hook the crossover up that comes with it the right way. Also, Make sure the amp crossover is turned off or pass thru because you will cut off the bass freq. to much so let the in line crossover do what they where made to do and you won't be disappointed.! -Pres.

I purchased these speakers for my wifes Toyota Camry...I was blown away by the accuracy and depth of them. Even though I'm only pushing them with an Alpine head unit, I still can't get over how great they are. They sound better than most separates on the market.

I can only imagine how they would sound being bi-amped like they are designed to be.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We bought these as a Christmas present to replace the worn out factory speakers in my son's 96 Bonneville. I was hesitant to purchase these as I was concerned that the factory stereo wouldn't have enough power to make them produce decent sound. Was I ever pleasantly surprised! The equalizer on the factory stereo actually can't be set too high on the low band frequencies or the bass will overdrive the speakers. I expected just the opposite! I initially only installed one speaker to test how it would sound. There was no comparison between the sound produced by the Polk speaker as opposed to the factory as I adjusted the balance control from one to the other. What a difference. My son is extremely pleased. The only real aggravation to this installation was that there was no information that came with the speakers to indicate the positive/negative wiring for both the car harnesses and the inputs to the crossovers. However, a quick call to Crutchfiled remedied this little issue. To say that I am pleased with the service and the product would be an understatement. My next project is to replace the speakers in the front doors. I purchased the matching Polk components and look forward to hearing the results. My thanks to Crutchfield for the great service and the recommendation to purchase these speakers.

Great sound, amazing value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for a 2009 Mini Cooper S to replace the stock rear speakers. I previously had put Polk MM6501 components in the front. The Mini has a very integrated head unit (with no amp) that only puts out about 20 watts RMS. I am amazed with the quality of the sound I get out of my Polk speakers.

I considered the MM line for rear speakers, but was concerned about the stock head unit handling the 2.7 ohms. So when I found the MMC690's on clearance, I couldn't pass up giving them a try. They are great!

The speakers are somewhat larger than most 6 x 9's, so make sure you have the mounting depth room for them.

Perhaps the sound would be better with an amp, but for me I get all the volume and sound I need without any distortion from the stock head unit.

Highly recommend these speakers!

Get em before they r gone!

Written By ray, Denver on Sunday, January 04, 2009

Buy them immediately. I have owned these two times in 2 different vehicles. I just put new ones in the back today with a pair of 6" round ones for the door of my Nissan Frontier. The 6 x 9's are powered by a 4 channel profile amp which is another remarkable piece of equipment for the money. My friends and I laughed when we removed a pair of 5 way Kenwoods and put the Momos in. We put the Kenwoods back in and laughed again. Then we pulled some Alpines out of another vehicle, plugged them in. Noooo comparison. Momos sounded tremendously better. The crossovers make the sound remarkable. These are a steal.

I would deff buy these again, just make sure when you do get them you get an amp to power them so you can get the full potential of them. I am a newly converted polk fan after these things.

Ok so I have gone through three pairs of 6x9s and these are by far the best sounding of the three. The other two pairs were in the retail price range of 150 USD so these are definitely a step up price wise. So I decided to buy them and really have a professional level of sound in my car (whatever that means?) So I installed them with a not so great sony explode 100 x2 at 4ohm amplifier and I have to say that even though the amp probably only puts out about 90 rms or so they sound great.

They have that midbass thump that sounds great (IT TAKES A COUPLE OF DAYS TO BREAK IN), but at the same time they dont try to pretend to be subwoofers like cheap speakers often do.

On the treble side of things they are very clear and very nice sounding and will surely fill your whole car (trust me I only had these installed for two weeks ONLY these and they filled my car nicely and cleanly.

To those of you who say they have encountered speakers of the same level at much lower a price, I challenge you to do a side by side comparison with these and those and I guarantee that you are quite mistaken. I have tried MANY 6x9 from cheap to high end like these, and I assure you that these have the best and clearest sound out of all. You can turn them up and up and its still there and still clear. Buy these now you will not be dissapointed. I will now shutup I know I have overstayed my welcome I just wanted to point out the greatness of these speakers!

I've had these for about 1 1/2 years now. I've used them in my travel trailer mounted in the original spots and in boxes.

If all you want to do is crank and you have a lot of clean watts, they're OK. If you want good sound over a wider volume range, try smaller speakers, a smaller clean amp, and a sub. I've liked all my other Polk speakers much better.

I put these in the rear of my Paseo. These sound great, and havn't had any problems. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is that I've had speakers that were smaller that sounded just as good and were cheaper. However, now that they are in place I love them.

Great,GREAT 6x9's

Written By headknocker, Galloway,NJ on Monday, August 25, 2008

I installed a pair of Polk MOMO 690's in the front doors of my wife's Toyota FJ Cruiser last week and I'm very impressed with them. I didn't just plop them in the doors though. I sealed the large openings with plexiglass and the inner and outer metal panels were heavily deadened with layers of sounddamping mat.

I'm powering them with an old US Acoustics USX-2080 amp which I had lying around and 80 watts per channel is more than enough to get the 690's humming nicely. For the time being(until I install the 12" sub) they're getting a fullrange signal and I've been quite impressed with their authoritative, tight midbass and detailed midrange & highs. I've been a pretty big car audio enthusiast for quite a few years and I'm not easily impressed...the 690's impressed me.

I can't imagine anyone saying these are lacking in the bass dept. If installed correctly the 690's will provide substantial midbass impact to your system. I was looking for an easy and inexpensive way to get good midbass upfront and the 690's didn't disappoint.

All in all a very high-quality set of 6x9's!

lacking bass/exaggerated highs

Written By atma, Las Cruces, NM on Sunday, August 10, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are certainly a decent pair of speakers, especially considering the recent price drop. They handle their rated 100 watt RMS per speaker fairly well, IF your eq is flat and you're running a high-pass filter around 80hz or higher. In my opinion, however, they lack quite a bit in bass response--if you try to compensate by boosting it with your EQ, the woofers will start distorting at higher levels (even with a high pass on them) and for having silk dome tweeters, they're exceptionally bright. Though the high frequency response is definitely clean, it does seem pretty exaggerated and becomes unbearable at higher volume levels (even with my head unit's treble set to -10 db), especially playing back material that's already sibilant or mastered with a crisp top end. My recommendation: if you like your music loud, you'll have to get a sub with these speakers, and be prepared for piercing high frequencies from the tweeters, even when attenuating them with an EQ.

High Class Sound

Written By Milad, Orlando, FL on Saturday, September 22, 2007

These speaker are of the highest quality. Clear highs and great midrange. I heard these would not run good off of a head unit's power, BUT I am running them off my head unit's 22x4 rms and they sound amazing. I have heard many high end speakers and for sound quality polk is the best hands down.

Absolutely the Best

Written By Cord, Harper, KS on Monday, August 20, 2007

These speakers are just amazing. Hands down the best 6x9s yet to be built by anyone. The mids are crisp and clear, and the highs are brilliant. I have a high pass filter so that they dont play the lows because I have the Polk db-212 subwoofer enclosure in the trunk and let me tell you it SLAMS. I also have Polk db 4x6 plate speakers up front. It sounds amazing. I used to think bass was the only thing that mattered, but now I have come to realize just how important treble really is. Just take my word for it, dont wait another second, buy these things. POLK ALL THE WAY.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Holy smokes!! These Momo MMC 690 speakers are the absolute, hands down, best sounding 6x9's I have ever listened to. The bass is full and rich, the midrange is crisp and clear and the highs sparkle, all while sounding completely natural. All this and I'm only driving them with an Alpine CDA 9885 head unit. These speakers are in the front doors of my Dodge Ram 1500 standard cab and I am running the Polk Momo MMC 650's in the rear. I needed to fabricate some .750" spacers to clear the window mechanism, and I'll need to cut an opening in the door panel so I can use the grills supplied with the speakers (which look great) but it's all worth it. These units are worth every penny they cost and then some. In my opinion, you can get away without using a sub due to the huge bass these 690's deliver. I am planning on installing an amp soon, and I can't even imagine how good they will sound with some more power behind them. Just hit the "Add To Cart" button. You won't be dissappointed.

Best speakers I've ever owned!!

I installed these over the weekend. Man, I've been missing a lot! If you have the money to invest, these are the way to go. I installed these in my 2004 Taurus. It was worth the modifications I made. Also, when installing these remember the matting to keep all the rattling to a minimum. I call these an investment because I will not own another. I've got the db6501's in the front. 'Nuff said. Buy you will not be disappointed!!

Great Speakers

Written By Tim, Covington, GA on Monday, January 29, 2007

I have installed these speakers in the rear deck of my 2000 Camry along with the Polk MOMO 6.5" in the front. The speakers are attached to a Pioneer DEH-6800MP head unit and powered with the Pioneer GM-6200F amp. After some adjustment of the amp gain, wow what a system. These Polk speakers deliver the full range of sound. Great bass, very warm mid-range and crisp, clear highs. This set up rivals my Infinity home speaker system. I am very pleased. Get these speakers and you will not be disappointed.

I put a set of these speakers in the rear deck of my Cavalier. Install was brutal because they dont fit the car, but it was definately worth the sweat. I'm running 150 watts rms to each one and the sound is amazing! How anyone can complain that they dont make bass is beyond me. When powered correctly, they hit just as hard as a similar sized sub. And like others have mentioned, they are built like a tank. Very nice speakers. You wont be dissaponted with them...

I installed the polk MOMO 6x9's in my Honda Accord. Even though they say they don't fit, they actually do. These speakers don't sound the best powered of of deck power(50 x 4). However once I connected my amp 75 RMS / channel, these speakers came to life!. I have a matching pair of MOMO's up front (6.5's) and together they sound awesome. Very good sound quality for the price. I would recommend these to anyone who doesn't want to spend more than 400 bucks. The crossover that comes with the speakers is good, but not quite as good as the component 6.5's. All around good speaker. I am very pleased.

Awesome Speakers

Written By Anonymous, CT on Saturday, July 01, 2006

These are one of the closest sets of speakers you could get to premium home theater. They sound crystal clear, the only thing is when the CD is a little scratched and you get to a cymbal crash or where theres a silence between instruments you can sometimes hear the noise from the CD. My head unit also has a 24-bit DAC which improves the sound alot so to talk about the full potential of these speakers they really set the bar high for listening to music that sounds very close to being at a concert listening to your favorite music. They are a little pricey but they're worth it, it'll make driving or just sitting in your car very pleasing. The Bass on these do have their limits, they're not subwoofers. . . if you want bass you get one. The other brands I named do offer more bass than these but to talk about tweeters, hard dome tweeters or most of them that are not silk (which these Polk/MOMO's have) lose that natural sound that these offer. If you really want the best out of these, be sure to Amp them. I'm running 190 Watts RMS to each and they take it all with joy. For rich natural sound and high quality speakers, look no further . . these amazing speakers will put a smile on your face.

Pros: Natural Sound, Loudness, Awesome Craftmanship
Cons: Their baskets may take up more space than other 6x9's so make sure you have the room or buy 6x9 boxes (From Crutchfield of course!)

Overall They're great and I couldn't be happier!

Written By Narcoleptic_Snowman, Utah on Thursday, June 29, 2006

These speakers are simply amazing. great by themselves, and amazing with a sub. they pick up all of the mid range bass, which is great because you can dedicate the sub to the super low notes, giving it more boom. these speakers are gigantic though! which is one thing you might want to watch out for. but other than that, simply amazing.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One word to describe these speakers. WOW! They are AMAZING! I began with them replacing my stock 4x10 Clarion speakers in my 1992 Saab 900. Unamped they sounded killer. Amped? WOW!!! The crossover is extremely noticeable! I've heard a ton of speakers, many 6x9s, and these babys are the best, HANDS DOWN. They are build like no other speaker. They... are... TANKS! They're even marine grade! The two tweeters on each speaker really make clean highs, the big 6x9 woofers remove the need for a sub all together if you just listen to rock (like myself). Yes, I can even rattle my car and you can feel the bass in your chest if you turn the bass up some. The midrange is great. And WOW do they get loud! But the best part is they sound good listening to any kind of music, fast, slow, loud, quiet, going 30 with the windows up, or 90 with the windows down, you can do it all with these, amped or un-amped. Best speaker I've ever heard hands down, no competion...

Pros: umm everything?

Cons: Maybe price? but there are more expensive speakers out there and I'll lay money they dont sound like these.

after a year and many a long hours spent with the volume on high all i can say is ohhhhright...gigity gigity...goooo. i like the look mommo gave polk and in my experience polk lasts longer than most, at least in car audio. i have never heard there home audio stuff.

pros: you can really crank up the music and the highs and mids never chirp crack pop sizzle or do anything other than fill your ears with perfect melodies

cons: like i sayed the mids and highs are great but there is not any chance of gettting bass out of this bad boy but lets face it thats why you get a sub

Get everything you’ll need to enjoy your new Polk/MOMO MMC690
