Crisp, spacious sound at a great price. The Monitor 30 bookshelf speaker takes advantage of proven Polk technologies to deliver solid performance for your music and movies. Start with Polk's celebrated Dynamic Balance® drivers — the 1" tweeter dishes out natural, detailed highs, while the 5-1/4" woofer produces clear, low-distortion mids and bass. Plus, a tuned flared port reinforces the low-frequencies without introducing sound-muddying noise. And the rock-solid MDF constuction virtually eliminates resonance. You'll enjoy clean, wide-open sound.

The compact Monitor 30 will fit easily into just about any room, yet it's high-efficiency design lets it produce big sound without loss of clarity. Dual 5-way binding posts allow for bi-wiring or bi-amping, and you can mount the speakers on your wall using the built-in keyhole slots. The Monitor 30 does a terrific job with stereo music, and for even better bass extension, just team it up with a powered subwoofer. Plus, you can put together a voice-matched Polk Monitor home theater speaker system for thrilling surround sound performance. Use the 30s as fronts and surrounds in a home theater setup for small-to-medium-sized rooms, or pair them up with the Polk Monitor 50 or Polk Monitor 60 towers for larger rooms.

Why choose bookshelf speakers?

Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.

great bookshelf speakers

Written By stetson, Dawsonville,Ga on Friday, October 17, 2008

I've had these speakers for a little over 5 yrs now and love these. the mid and tweeter blend perfectly and the accuracy is incredible for a speaker of this size. I plan on getting an amp to really drive these. the speakers are punchy pending one what song is playing but when i turn them up really loud they are crystal clear and never miss a beat. even today, they suprise me at how well they sound even at low volumes. they durability is great.

I've never had a problem with the speakers and will say they speakers don't put out moster bass. but for their size its perfect. if your looking for wall shaking bass your not going to get it from these, If u want to shake the walls buy an SVS subwoofer! hope this review was helpful for anyone interested in these speakers.

Better than Bose

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded my system from an Onkyo Dolby Digital 5.1 with a Bose
Accoustimass 6 speaker system. I am using the Monitor 30 as rear
speakers along with Monitor 60 as front speakers. The subwoofer is the
PSW111. I am driving these with a Pioneer THX receiver. The sound is
more than I expected. Running Star Wars through this system provided
sounds never picked up by the Bose, especially through the rear speakers.
I would highly recommend this speaker set-up. Size wise they may be
larger than many
people want but they are not so large that they cannot be adequately
placed out of the way. Not to mention they handle music so much better
than compact 5.1 systems.

Very Clean!

Written By Brad, Wilkesboro, NC on Monday, February 04, 2008

After doing some extensive research, I ordered these monitors and am soooo glad I did. After adding polk db series speakers in the car, I am a coverted fan for life so I thought I would give these a try. WOW! The build quality for the price point is impeccable. The sound, even better. Highs are crisp and clean but not too bright, midbass and midrange is tight and snappy. I will concur with others that a powered sub is imperative to round out the full audible spectrum, but these sound nice just by themselves. Add my 200 watt powered 12 and the room comes alive with sound. These are great for a simple stereo setup or would work nicely as fronts and surrounds in a 5.1 or 6.1 setup. In my opinion, no other speaker manufacturer compares to Polk for the money.

I got these at a good time. These monitors do an outstanding job as surround speakers for my home entertainment system. They are paired up with Polk tower RTI14 and a Polk center speaker.Nice looking speaker as well. Crutchfield is a good place to do business, always there to help if needed.

Wow these little speakers do the job for my small home theater, matched with the cs1 center and the polk audio R15 as surrounds. This is a great set-up small but they pack a punch. Oh i also have the infinity ps12 sub. My friends and family are amazed with this small set-up. Thanks Crutchfield for the help.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked these up as a gift, and tried them briefly out in my decently acoustically-treated studio next to actual monitors (not just "monitor" series) using an SLA1 amp. While I would not use them for mixing, I would say they are a fantastic listening speaker for the price. The bass response (while a bit over exaggerated) is tight and punchy, naturally reproducing real kick drum and bass tones (did not listen to any electronic or hiphop). Any other criticism I have is in comparing them to monitors 5x the price; for the typical listening enviroment I give them five stars for the price:sound quality ratio. Plenty of power handling, but don't throw a dance party with them. They are great at what they were designed for.

A-OK for computer sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I spend a LOT of time processing sound files (LP - to - CD conversion) using excellent "Adobe Audition" software, (intended for creating soundtracks for videos), with first-rate noise and ambience correction for source LPs. After two sets of the usual (inadequate) powered speakers, I ordered a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 30's from Crutchfield for wall-mounting in my small office space. Had to use my old amp's tone controls to tame the bass (too strong for the small space). Now the sound is well-balanced, and reliable for making editing adjustments to those sound-files. Am a "Happy Camper" again.

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these speakers for rear surround. Teamed with Moniter 70 fronts, CS2 Center, DPS12 Sub. Awsome system, these Moniter 30's fit perfectly. Great high's, great mid's, and suprising low's from such small speakers. Polk Audio has a great line here. You could use these speakers for front channel even in a large room, as long as you had a sub for the bass. Top Quality speakers from Polk.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent sound, great value. I had a pair of these as surrounds, and bought a second pair for back surrounds. Well constructed, quality terminals, good bass for their size and excellent highs. Great for surrounds in any size room, would also work well as fronts in smaller spaces.

Clear, bright and responsive

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I almost didn't buy these ONLY because of the price (I was doing my new HT on a tight budget). But, now I realize these speakers are worth every cent! You can tell Polk built these with great care and quality. The sound is very clear... great mids and crystal highs. I'm using these as my front L & R speakers connected to an Onkyo TX-SR503 and paired with Polk R15s for rears ($99... you can't beat those either), a CS1 center and a PSW10 Sub.
These speakers easily fill my 18x18 living room with full rich music and sfx.
If you dig home theater, but you aren't a "$1000 a pair for speakers" kind of person, The Polk Audio Monitor 30s are a smart choice you will more than enjoy.

Great speakers

Written By Nnamdi, Denver, CO on Thursday, April 28, 2005

I use these as surround speakers and they sound excellent, in 5ch stereo they are very forward sounding and clear. Will work great as main speakers in a smaller room as a sub/sat set-up.
Monitor 60's,Monitor 30's and CS2 excellent combination.

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Polymer Composite Woofers: Each speaker features a lightweight, yet stiff Bi-Laminate composite woofer with good damping, giving you high efficiency, excellent bass, and low distortion. For high performance durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Silk/Polymer Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" fabric/polymer dome tweeter that provides clear, detailed highs. Each tweeter uses a heat sink on the Neodymium magnet for superior heat dissipation, power handling and reliability.

Acoustically Inert Cabinets: The speaker cabinets feature all-MDF construction with internal bracings that virtually eliminate sound-muddying resonance.

Ports: There is a single critically-tuned port opening on the rear of each speaker that has low port noise for increased and extended bass response.

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: Each speaker has two sets of gold-plated 5-way binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. Using the dual 5-way binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers.

Wall Mounting: Each speaker has a bracket with a keyhole slot on the back panel, allowing the speaker to be mounted on the wall using optional hardware.

Magnetically Shielded: The speakers are magnetically shielded, allowing you to place them near your television without distorting the picture.

Frequency Response Note: The overall frequency response is 55Hz-25kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 63-24kHz.
